Fab time here on a bank holiday afternoon with family out in the sun on their outdoor garden space. Food is tasty, drinks on point. Cant wait to go back!

No one came over to take our food order for 1 hour. We had to go up to the bar and then they came over to take our order. Got our food and they didn’t come over for another hour to take the plates and then told us the kitchen was shut so we couldn’t get dessert.

My mother went for lunch today with 3 friends who she had recommended the pub 3 People ordered the same dish again recommended by my mother , when asked if the meal was okay 3 people said the dish was very bland , with no real flavour the young man said its a different chef and I will pass your comments on, no real apology or any effort to make up for a very dissapointing meal Which left my mother who had recommended The pub very embarrassed so much so the she paid for all the drinks, this was meant to be a 88 birthday treat, which is very dissaponting, my mother never complains if 3 people say the same thing perhaps more notice should be taken, my mother lives with me now and seemed very down when she came home , saying the meal was really dissapointing, to be fair we have always had a good experience in the coach and horses but not today,

Barman was friendly. Food was awful.

Really disappointed with the lack of choice on the menu today. We’ve stopped off at the Coach and Horses previously, on the way to Stansted, and always had fantastic food. Another flight this evening, so booked a table for a Sunday roast, looking forward to the extensive Sunday menu as advertised online. We were greeted by very polite staff, and shown to our table - only to be shown a menu that was a quarter of what was advertised. Roast; no cauliflower cheese, parsnips etc available - very limited mains. If we were made aware; we would have cancelled and gone elsewhere. Finished our drinks, and paid our bill before ending up in a local Thai. Lovely staff, setting - shame about the lack of transparency regarding the menu.

Lovely welcome, sat in greenhousey section which was pleasant. Went for the roasts off the Sunday menu. Starters looked pretty but prawns were tasteless, bread & rock hard butter accompanying. Roasts ordered were pork, gammon & veggie roast. Again looked great but all tasteless, spuds hard greasy, nothing seasoned, measly amount of shredded veg and bland gravy. Lovely pub just needs a better chef! Wouldn’t bother with it

Have spent a wonderful family day here they let us us park our motorhome overnight in the carpark had a fabulous roast dinner with the biggest Yorkshire puds I've ever seen ,the staff were first class at all times one to revisit I think

Staff were friendly, unfortunately the food was average at best. I went for the Sea Bass that was on the specials menu. It arrived swimming in oil and quite powerful flavours that completely overpowered the subtle taste of the fish. Portion size was also really small so I had to eat again when I got back. Possibly I was just unlucky with my choice of dish.

I found the food was ok and expensive for what you got.

Be aware if you have food allergies , we visited last weekend for a relatives birthday, we were in a private room. We made the staff aware by email and phone that one of the party has a severe nut allergy. On arrival the waitress was very helpful and went through the menu and changed some of the dishes that he had ordered. When the food arrived lasagne with a side salad covered in pine nuts!!! Total lack of communication between staff and kitchen be AWARE !

We used to love this pub, and we decided to go back yesterday, as we had visitors from abroad. The food we ordered was still very decent, but the service has hugely declined. It was a busy day, and we knew we had 2 hours available, however: the staff who served us was new and kept forgetting what we had asked her. That did not bother us, but because she was slow and forgetful, she took longer to serve us, and then they wanted to literally boot us out. It is not the way to treat customers. Better organisation is needed. I was hugely disappointed and embarrassed for our guest. I preferred the previous owners

I came here with my 2 children and dog. Staff are very welcoming, attentive and helpful. Food was surprisingly good for a pub chain. Good beer and the barman even warmed my brandy glass. The dog had a bowl of water and a few treats too!

Always such friendly service, really nice pub garden and beautifully decorated inside. Food is always good and cocktails are a bonus!

Asked the waiter about the crab salad and said was all white meat and laid out nice It was tiny and had a tiny bit of brown meat hidden in the rocket salad. Was awful !!

The food that we did eventually get was average to say the least, the service was terrible, atmosphere bad due to dogs being allowed in the same area as non-dog lover customers eating. 5 adults eating only 3 out of the 5 got their food because it was either cooked wrong twice(steak asked for medium and came back so rare it was still kicking) or never arrived all together! Waited for 30 min until i was told they had forgot to place my order through and by then everyone else had finished their meals, told them not to bother! Hostess had the audacity to say he would take the food that we never even had or was cooked wrong twice of the bill!!!! Offered us a free dessert, declined because by then we did not trust them to get this correct to be honest.

Lovely old, atmospherics decor, comfortable and lovely meals at reasonable prices, well worth booking for a special occasion too we had a great time here with our family birthday celebration for my daughter in law recently, staff were accommodating to customers needs, and friendly,

£12 for 3 small frozen scallops is a complete rip off, the fish for main course was nice. The dessert was completely different from what was ordered and what should have been an expresso was a white instant/filter coffee. Used to be a very nice place, but won't be rushing back after this experience.

Unfortunately rather empty for a lunchtime, so lacking in atmosphere. Food ok and service helpful. I would happily eat at The Coach & Horses again

Discovered by mistake when I went down the wrong road! I'm glad I did. Top service, great food, and McMullen beers available, what's not to like?

Great pub, lovely food and friendly staff. The Monday night quiz was really fun and there is loads of free parking. Highly recommend!

Went to the coach and horses at lunchtime today. Had the seared scallops starter. It was pathetic. Two limp scallops, heaps of jalapenos and capers. And a scrap of "croutons". The Tiramisu was worse. A small shell of fake chocolate. A small glass of coffee with two sponges biscuits and ice cream and cream. Never again! And with a diet coke over £23

Perfect pub lunch - mid dog walk- with loads of gluten free choices. Lovely pub atmosphere with friendly, professional and accommodating service. Consistently good.

We went for Sunday roast! Absolutely brilliant, we had beef,which was very rare! I loved it, but if you don't like rare, choose another meat! Service and food all excellent 👌 👍

I was looking forward to this but was sadly disappointed. The tables were close together and there was so much noise - a screaming child and a dog with a sudden shrill bark did nothing to help. There were four of us. The meals were not served all at the same time so that was irritating and spoilt the experience. One of our party did not have the asparagus that should have been part of her meal so she had to search for a waiter to put this right. The plates were tepid so the meals were not hot enough. When the bill came, I thought it was overpriced. The so called mimi dessert with a few ragged pieces of waffle was very poor value.

We visited this place for the first time with family and we had an excellent Sunday roast and dessert 🍨 Plentiful portions , piping hot 😊. Great service from entering and throughout our meal . Can’t wait to visit you again next time we are over . 👍

Staff friendly food was great, and the atmosphere was very oldy worldly. Would recommend coming back. They also hold theme nights and quizzes.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, The host who was seating customers etc was amazing, really lovely polite gentlemen (didn’t get his name (unfortunately)who showed us to the bar to get our drinks as the table wasn’t ready. Ordered our mains, and came swiftly, all of our parties meat was delicious, however it felt like we had the scraps of the vegetables, you could tell the roast potatoes had been sat under a heat lamp for a long time, and the Yorkshire pudding just disintegrated into crumbs. The cauliflower cheese was minimal, around 6 florets with a dribble of cheese over them. We finished our meal, and waited a long period of time for our plates to be cleared, staff were walking past us, and the rest were congregated near the bar area. We finally attracted the attention of a server who cleared our plates. We then were told someone will be back to take our desert and further drinks orders. After a further wait, The host had noticed we had been basically left and came over to us and took our order for us, he was absolutely lovely. Deserts arrived and was clear that 2 deserts out of 3 had been sat on the pass as the ice cream had melted and it was more like a soup rather than a sticky toffee and a berry pie. I feel the staff don’t want to take drinks to tables or clear plates away, as we sat and watched our second round of drinks sat on the drinks pass for about 15 minutes. Overall, a poor experience, such a shame as it’s a cosy venue, a few tweaks here and there and it will be spot on. Left feeling like we’d just been forgotten and our custom wasn’t appreciated and no Customers should leave feeling that way.

Nice place friendly atmosphere only problem for me the food was to spicy

3 friends booked an early evening (6.15) midweek table. Service was initially attentive, food and drinks arrived within 20 minutes. Service seemed to stop at that point. No one came to ask if we wanted more drinks throughout our visit. We eventually managed to catch someone to order deserts and coffee. After 35 minutes, nothing and no one came. I went to the bar and asked for the bill, explaining that we couldn’t wait any longer. The waitress admitted she’d forgotten to send the order to the kitchen. No attempt to rectify the situation. With so many other places to eat around Bishops Stortford, we won’t struggle to find somewhere that values our custom.

Nice stop for a coffee. Wi fi was a bit challenging to get working but sorted it out in the end.

What a brilliant night, absolutely fantastic. Food was hot and cooked to perfection, we were all served together, just perfect. Staff were friendly and patient. Thank you Sam and team, we'll be back.

Service was very poor had to ask after waiting ages for desert menu and bill we could see staff at the bar talking also desert dish was so hot almost burnt my fingers no warning

You always get a warm welcome here and service is good. The menu has a good variety of family favourites and some chef's specials. On the edge of town with plenty of parking makes this a popular location.

The title says it all. Went New Year's Eve. Everything we ordered was good quality fare and served by very pleasant staff. For me though I expected a bit more atmosphere especially as it was NYE.

A lovely Sunday lunch for a large family group with varying needs - all met with care and consideration. Our waiter, Dan was particularly good - very pleasant and attentive - but all the staff are great. Thank you.

Had a couple of things on the menu not available but it really didn't make much difference as there were plenty of other options to choose from. The portions were large, not ridiculously so, but when placed in front of you it does cross your mind that you won't be able to eat it all. All 5 of us did! In our group we had a mix of vegetarian, pescatarian and carnivore and we had no trouble finding something to order. Food was fresh, hot and delicious. We meet regularly and it's the first time in a long while that we all decided to squeeze in a pudding. Someone may even have squeezed in two after we decided to buy one for a memer of our usual group that couldn't make it this time. All round fabulous.

Great Food & Drink. The Service was Excellent

Unfortunately we sat near the entrance where there was a strong draft and no one really wanted our order. The chicken burger tasted good but was dripping in fat.

Food was lovely had a sunday roast it was lamb very tender. Staff were very helpful and the price was competitive. Will definitely go back again.

Great lunch treat with Nan. Popped over to see Nan and went out for one of her favourite spots for lunch. We ordered a mixture of dishes from the main menu and the specials, all arrived promptly and nice and hot just what was needed on a cold January day. We were well looked after by the team and enjoyed a lovely meal.

The staff were first class and the food delicious. Our server was especially good; very personable. What was so good was the fact that the music was only background and the floors carpeted, so it was easy to chat and very comfortable. It was a pleasant change not to have to strain to hold a conversation. We felt we had our own special space. Overall, a first class experience. We are returning tomorrow night!

Sam and her team laid on an amazing spread of food and looked after our family and friends superbly at a wake in early January. Everything was organised with minimal fuss and it meant we were able to concentrate on the rest of the day which meant so much. Thanks Sam.

Went for a Sunday lunch, we had roast beef and roast pork and a side of cauliflower cheese. Every item of the roast dinner was overcooked and the Yorkshire pudding was very crispy and hard. Very small portions of meat too. The cauliflower cheese was mostly just cauliflower with very little cheese! Food was edible but would not be rushing back.

Have always been to Coach and Horses for Sunday lunch but I must say our last visit on New Year’s Eve was not great. The food was not served at the same time and we waited ages for condiments and the roast potatoes were awful and then to be charged £7.50 for a very small dessert. It is a shame but I won’t be going back and will look for an alternative pub for my Sunday lunch going forward.

Vibrant night, as there was a Christmas quiz going on too. Several choices unavailable on the menu, but food was good quality standard pub fare.

Works Xmas lunch, so not easy to keep a large table happy! Our waiter was great at her job. She was helpful with drinks top-ups, extras like more gravy, etc. One of our group had a poor dinner (a veggie option) but the rest of us seemed to enjoy ours. My dinner was the 'pressed beef' - absolutely beautiful, tender, falling apart meat & plenty of it! Delish...

Came as a party of 15 after a last minute booking cancellation. Sam and alex were led us through the booking process and were incredibly patient with organising dietary requirements. On the night service was friendly, quick and the food was amazing.

Very nice pub. Great food with excellent service. Lots of nooks, corners and pillars mean you can enjoy a private dinner and not feel the room is dominated by noisy large tables.

We came here one evening last week on the off chance of getting a table. We hadn’t booked but despite being very busy we were seated. I must say the food we had was lovely and my steak was cooked just right. We had a mini pudding and coffee for dessert which was just enough to fill that gap! What really shon out was the friendly service from our waiters Felix & Nigel. Nothing was too much trouble and they made all the difference to our meal with their interaction even though they were very busy with all the other tables. Shall be returning in the New Year.

Very disappointing visit this time. It started on the car park, there we 5 unusable spaces due to careless/thoughtless people taking up 2 spaces, car park isn’t huge to start with. Food took ages to arrive, they were fairly busy and we weren’t in that much of a hurry but my nieces children were very hungry, my grandniece ordered steak & chips, when it arrived the steak was roughly 3 inches long by 2.5 inches wide, we did ask where the rest of it was and they did being her another piece, the food had obviously been sat under a heat lamp for quite some time, myself and my sister had soup, the spoon was so hot we had to use our serviettes to hold them. We definitely won’t be rushing back which is a shame because it used to be so good.

Booked 15 people for a Christmas party at the Coach and horses . The room within the pub had a great display of Christmas decorations as did the whole pub . Table was laid out very nicely with decorations and serviettes. As we all arrived staff immediately began to place nibbles that we ordered and bottles of wine. All were smartly dressed and friendly. Starters and main courses served on hot plates when appropriate and tasty. As were the desserts The whole experience made our Christmas party special and magical Thankyou to all the staff who worked that evening

Ok food.. but nice place Could do with a bigger car park

This is now our 'go to' restaurant for relaxed quality food served in a lovely pub setting. Inviting with several nooks and crannies and very friendly but efficient service. Their menu changes with the season but all food is excellent to date and they have a variety of excellent wines for different pockets. The local beer is well kept but please lose the 'coming soon' label on one off the pubs because it's so late it's lost for ever I predict. (If subscribing to their birthday promotion do check that the subsequent email gets sent. My wife's, submitted September) is out their somewhere hopefully! But I digress, You will be looked after always.

Second time of being here, as ever the food didn't disappoint. The staff are very friendly and attentive, always checking that everything was ok. definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

Did not get to experience the food but certainly got to experience the cold corner we were put in. And not interested to move us. Nevermind won't be back enjoyed spending our £120 somewhere else . And they showed us they cared to serve us

Had to ring several times to make a booking. Then the chap on the phone couldn't get my name right. Wasn't overly impressed with the selection of ales, only a choice of 2. Nice enough in general, but lacking something to make it stand out.

We've been here a couple of times, as it's a central location to meet up with cousins, and we've loved it on both occasions. Tasty food, cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make for a lovely meal out.

Food and service were excellent. As it was a cold night I had expected the fire to have been lite. It makes for a wonderful atmosphere.

Enjoyed our lunch very much and so pleased they allow dogs in any area too.

Food was lovely & staff were great…until after an hour and a half we were told the table was needed back in 10mins. Surely 2hours is standard?! We’d only just been given our dessert menus 😔 which we of course didn’t then order with so little time.

Great food and equally lovely staff, I had the pleasure to visit Coach & Horses three times in my month-long stay in Thorley. The ambience is well cared for, tidy and clean. Seasonal decor was present but not in the measure of it being disruptive to the already delightful venue. The menu blends pub classics and more original dishes but maintains the same standard of quality throughout. Thank you for the great time!

Served incorrect starter and then starter came but was not made correctly. A little disappointing as this is one of our favourite pubs locally.

Sunday lunch here. Nice pub and very good staff but our Sunday roasts were very disappointing. Portions are very small for the price and quality not great. We had 2-3 thin slices of fatty beef, 4 very small roast potatoes and some assorted veg. We ordered extra veg but even then the portions were tiny. A side of Pigs in Blankets consisted of one normal breakfast sausage (uncut) with a rasher of bacon around it. All in all, the 4 of us came away hungry but still with a bill of £160 inc soft drinks. Not terrible, but they would be better charging say £2 more and serving much bigger portions as this was pretty disappointing.

Had to squeece into car park space as the silver Mercedes next to us was parked over the line and it was the only Space left, we popped in for one Drink, when we returned we see that our car had been keyed, spoke to management but no help.

Great pub. Lovely atmosphere. Kid friendly. Got mums wheelchair up the ramp with no issues. We didn't eat but had a great couple of hours.

Very disappointed, hot chicken with cold barbecue sauce daubed across it, when I cut into it there was blood in the thickest part! Did tell the waitress but couldn't make a big thing of it as we were in a rush for an appointment. Have been many times before and enjoyed our meal, but this time was very disappointing.
