Found this pub by accident as didn't wish to drive along the narrow single country lanes to pubs I had put in the sat nav. Glad we did as the service was friendly and the food was lovely. We had the mussels, paella and a veggie cheese tart. My paella had big prawns, octopus, clams, mussles and cockles in. Couldn't fault the meals, they were so tasty and refreshing. It was a dog friendly pub and staff gave our dog a carrot when we asked if they had any which was a bonus. Would visit here again if passing and I would recommend it. Thanks for a nice evening meal.

Top drawer hospitality and food at a lovely country pub. We went on a friend’s recommendation and were not disappointed. Every aspect of the Sunday Lunch service was impressive: the knowledgable staff and welcoming Landlord; food was ten-out-of-ten. We booked for 2pm and our Beef Roasts arrived piping hot within 10 minutes. We were impressed. Puddings were a terrific end: homemade Sticky Toffee pudding and Belgian Waffle. Highly recommend a visit, and if you’re a cyclist it was an easy 8k pretty flat ride from Bishop’s Stortford.

Amazing food, beautiful attentive staff who are very friendly. HIGHLY recommend this place (although now thinking may not be able to get a seat in the future as everyone will be going there). Pics are only of dessert as too busy eating starter and main forgot to take snaps, VERY good portions. UPDATE Sept '22 still love this place food still amazing, yesterday went for a roast dinner (delish).

Friendly pub, next door to The Henry Moore Foundation. Staff friendly, but were struggling to cope with the amount of customers. Food average - not too happy at having to wait for 65 mins for a sandwich. Requested brown bread, served white, could not wait another 65 mins so I ate it!

Was recommended to eat here and I wasn’t disappointed. I hadn’t been here before but would definitely come again. Traditional pub grub and roast dinners but the quality was exceptional. We settled for roast dinners and I can honestly say that I have never had such good roast lamb. My husband had beef and the quality of the beef and the cooking was also as good. Strawberry and apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding both with custard finished it off and were equally as good. The young girls serving were polite, bright, cheerful and happy to help. The restaurant was full with people finishing and more people coming in constantly. The atmosphere was cosy but buzzy and the place was traditional but clean and well decorated. They are happy to accommodate allergies and also allow dogs. Would highly recommend and will be returning

A friend recommended this country pub as we were visiting Henry Moore foundation. I ordered hoop hamburger.. fish pie finished and fish ‘n chips off menu. My daughter ordered chicken & leek pie. Waited 40 mins. Pie was quite good but only warm, veg were quite raw. My hamburger with bacon and fries were all over cooked and only warm! I couldn’t eat much of it all. So very disappointing.. having waited so long! Had better hamburger at McDonald’s! I’m getting so tired of eating out, paying over the odds for mediocre food! I should gave debt it back it was that bad.. how can you get hamburger & fries so badly cooked??? I should have refused to pay… can’t speak for other things on the menu I admit… but can’t recommend this pub based on our experience. Will eat in the Henry Moore cafe next time! 😠

Had a nice lunch at this pub last week the first time we have been here despite living less than 10 miles away. Nice garden with a large outdoor covered area. Friendly staff and a menu with a good choice but not extensive. Food was served up fairly quickly and was of a good quality. A nice relaxed atmosphere. Would have given 5/5 but reduced to 4 as the pudding was served with no cutlery and ended up having to chase after some and we were given another tables bill. All corrected quickly but unnecessary. Despite these minor problems would come again and would recommend it.

Sunday lunch yesterday was a great traditional experience. A warm welcome from staff and servers who took the order accurately and delivered the mixed coursesas requested by friends in my party. Doing what pubs do well is becoming morerare but this pub does it. Especially noted that sparking water was made and put in a jug thus avoiding the plastic bottles damaging the environment. Well done the Hoops. My host also noticed that the servers did not push for pressing the tip button on the payment machine - a nice touch - although we left a cash tip as the service and food deserved a token of appreciation. Thank you.

Nice country pub, next to Henry Moore Foundation. Quite a lot of outdoor seating which is essential in these Covid times. We didn’t have the pub food, which to be fair looked to be good “pub grub”, but took advantage of the Grace Makes Dough pizza pop up which is at the Hoops every Saturday lunchtime and Sunday evening. Their sour dough pizzas are amazing. All vegetarian, and I’m a meat eater, but even so, the best I have ever tasted.

We arrived to meet friends for a pre-booked meal in the patio area, due to covid. As we sat down we were told that we needed to order immediately as the chef was going home. This is curious given that the booking was made and accepted for a time when the resident chef was leaving for the day. Sadly this information was not shared with our friend who made the booking. Two of our party had the 4 meat roast which sadly only compromised of 2 meats as despite knowing that the pub was going to reopen, it seems that not enough food was ordered in to cover the potential amount of diners. The fact that only 2 meats were offered was not reflected in the price. When the roasts arrived, one of them featured 2 ultra thin slices of very fatty pork and 1 newspaper thin slice of beef, the size of an egg. There was no crackling, the gravy was cold and the vegetables were hard. I ordered scampi which arrived small and tepid. Despite being pressured to place a main course order, it was almost impossible to place a dessert order and I had to actually go into the pub twice to grt any attention in order to be shown dessert options. Upon ordering, 2 of us had apple crumble which was not baked but put in the microwave denoted by the fact that the crumble topping was grey in colour. Another member of our party had bread and butter pudding which arrived cold. The toilets were dark as there were no lights and 1 cubicle door in the ladies didn't have a door lock. Having been in lockdown for so long, surely the lights and door locks should have been repaired during this time ready for reopening. To add insult to injury, we were charged for items that we didn't order and paid a premium for what was quite frankly a disgusting, embarrassing and extremely overpriced set of microwaved meals.

Planning the trip to the Henry Moore Foundation we realised that their cafe was only doing take-away so we were glad to learn there was a pub adjacent. We had followed the website’s advice to book for Sunday lunch. My vege husband was delighted to get a full roast, with nut loaf and I had a delicious chicken roast with all the trimmings. We couldn’t resist warm upside-down apple cake with icecream, which was scrummy. Excellent Sunday lunch. With two large glasses of wine and coffee it came to £51 for two. Would definitely recommend. The only slight negative was that it was cold because they keep the doors open, presumably for h&s reasons.

Looked promising but my friends and I gave up after I signed-in and then three trips to the bar to enquire about a menu or whether we were going to be served. A single huge scribbled menu was brought to the bar where I was waiting ...by which time my friends had left for a good food pub in Hunsdon....the Hoops menu had no prices and after the 20 minute wait I enquired about the waiting time for the actual food ... but no answer from the obviously overworked waitress working on her own...I had to leave and we all found another place ....disorganized understaffed (?) and a complacent air about the place ...bad news for the Henry Moore Foundation nearby....they are not connected btw despite the signs in the pub garden that may give the impression of a link.....Very disappointed and I hadn’t even got to the bit where I would have tried the food... ! hope they take notice and improve....feel sorry for the staff trying to cope.

A very pretty pub with a pretty garden, in a very lovely village. Four of us visited for lunch and to be fair the burgers and chips looked very good. There was however an extra charge of 1.50 each for bacon and 1.50 for cheese adding an unexpected 3 pounds per person on the burgers. To be fair this was probably on the menu but we hadnt noticed. Our bacon and chicken salad was ok but pricey and we had to ask for dressing, it was not offered. It was just ok, the bacon was tasty but the dhicken seemed processed and was a mean amount, for the price expected better.

We had lunch here at the weekend. The menu is pretty uninspiring - but even so, promised more than what turned up on our plates. The (£7)bruschetta was toasted stale baguette with half a tomato, a slice or two of cucumber, and a tiny ball of mozzarella. Complete piss take basically. The roasted vegetable salad looked as if all the core ingredients had been thrown into a bowl by a stroppy teenager whose turn it was to make dinner, then dowsed with balsamic vinegar. It’s a shame as the waitresses are charming & clearly run off their feet.
