Three Horseshoes in East Hertfordshire

Lovely lunch today, Rob looked after us perfectly. Three of us are gluten intolerant and had plenty of choice from the non-gluten menu.

The staff were lovely & helpful. But I had the slow cook beef rib, that was so tough I couldn't cut it. I told them. They offered another one or something else. I had fish & chips. The fish was OK, but the chips were dry & tasteless. The restaurant was empty & I can see why. Shame. It's such a lovely looking pub & staff brilliant.

Great pub, good food, good beer, great friendly service. I would recommend as had a large family get together and all the staff so friendly and helpful.

Really lovely pub food, good service and nicely decorated. We didn't use the garden as it's a bit cold but the garden seating area looks lovely and we will definitely return in the summer to spend time out there. I had the market fish with extra broccoli on the side. It was very tasty! We also really appreciated the gluten free menu as we had a coeliac in our party.

What a great surprise! We ended up the dinner saying “ this is what we expect the food to be at the pub, very good!” Not from around, but definitely worth the visit. The service from Tamzin was really good!

The staff are great if I want to go out for a nice meal with I always book the 3 horseshoe s I would say although the service is always great the vegan options could be better as I’m ok with meat but my wife is vegan

Food was lovely..... and that's where the positives end! The service was extremely slow. We had to ask staff multiple times to take our order, clear our plates, give us dessert menus, taking drinks orders etc. The food was also delivered at different times which meant some meals were cold. No check back as well which we were disappointed with. The live music started at 8pm which meant you couldn't hold a conversation. The music was good but felt like it started too early in the evening. We've always loved this pub but since the management has changed it has definitely gone downhill. We won't be rushing back.

Went here this evening after visiting previously, was excited to see the new ownership! But was left thoroughly disappointed, the service was just non existent. No real attention paid to any patrons. We had to ask for drinks, then ordered food which then took over an hour to come out, but we got some food and then had to wait a while for others to get theirs. No checkback was done on us, we then had to ask for our plates to be taken. Just really disappointing. We observed the staff focused more on having a chat between themselves than actually serving customers. Neglected would be the best word to describe it. For a now rather upmarket restaurant, I would expect a similar standard of service. We did not get this. Uniforms would also help this. Can’t say I’ll come again after this experience. The joys of a secret shopper….

He food was amazing as always, and Tamzin was friendly and very on the ball! Never had a bad experience here. Was good to see familiar faces of the staff.

Visited on the spur of the moment and had a very tasty meal. It was a really chilly evening but they had an open fire plus a log burner on the go which was great. From what I could tell it will be equally as enjoyable to visit in warmer weather as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Wasn't busy, so service was alright. But the taste to portion to price ratio is atrocious. £18 for a pie that is the size of a Pukka pie I could get for a pound. Didn't taste much different, too. No price on half the drinks.

Buttermilk chicken burger and 18 fat chips £16!!! Plus 1.50 for a bit cheese on it …. Not that I noticed any cheese. The chicken was tough and stringy. No sign of a bit of side salad either. Unfortunately very over priced for what you get. £44 for 2 main, 2 drinks. Staff are friendly and efficient We used to be fairly regular visitors before the refurb but sadly we might not be returning due to the higher prices.

We walked in on a Sunday hoping to get a table after the hell of costco!....we wasn't very hopeful! But the lovely hostess said it wasn't a problem and seated us near the fire which was a welcome delight on this cold day! We both had a Sunday roast and the food was AMAZING!! We will definitely be returning! Thank you so much for accommodating us!

Hands down the best pint of Guinness around (apart from Ireland of course!) …Food great quality, I’d recommend Sunday roast! (make sure you book in advance)…Tried most things on the menu over the past year and can’t fault anything! Also great selection of drinks, and the staff are all very friendly and professional. Keep doing what you’re doing 3 horseshoes. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Cannot praise them enough for accommodating us early after a funeral service. The buffet was excellent, the staff so friendly and the pub itself decorated and furnished to a high standard. Thank you

Service was a little slow but not too much of a problem. Roast potatoes weren’t particularly crispy (and a few burnt) but overall food was really good and is a lovely pub to come to.

So my starter for the day was smoked salmon with capers'What we got was a slice of bread with a knob of cold butter stuck on top.Good for making holes in the bread but not much else.the salmon was nice but a meagre portion of salmon. Then sea bass with root vegetables including sprouts which could have been fired from a howitzer,they were so hard .The price £32.50!! We will not mention the price of a large of glass of malbec £10.39

Cannot fault thos restaurant/pub... staff are so friendly you feel welcome... the food is tasty..if I had to say anything its such an open area it can get noisy when busy... but that's same everywhere...

The decor at The Three Horseshoes, Hooks Cross, is fresh and bright. The new outside seating area is a welcome addition. The service with Roy was excellent. The menu is ok, but the prices are very expensive. The option for a small plate or large plate has been removed. I'm not sure if I will be back, as there are cheaper places to eat locally, that are just as good.

Had a lovely visit. Meal was lovely. A nice relaxing atmosphere. Rob our waiter very friendly and jolly. Would recommend to anyone.

What a lovely place to have a meal and a drink. Beautiful inside and out. A warm and cosy atmosphere. Food is really good and reasonably priced. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Let me start by saying that we love this pub, it's close to home and during the pandemic we visited regularly to help them stay open. We get great atmosphere, food, drink and service. Today (Dec 2024) was top drawer in all respects. Well done team!

After a disastrous meal here a about 8 weeks ago, we where invited back for a meal for 2 on the house. I can honestly say the service and the food was excellent, and I would highly recommend it. I would like to thank vicky and her team for an excellent afternoon.

Food is good, Xmas set menu very expensive.

Table for 5. Starters were varied and all lacking any kind of finishing touch ie goats cheese with very little else. Halloumi fries, dry and burnt. Mains .... Lasagne was a disaster. Microwaved and left under a heat lamp until it was one inch thick and crunchy. It was bumped up with a few salad leafs and a sprinkling of parmasan which just didn't cut it!!! The chicken burger was passable but just soggy. Decided to give dessert a miss. In the meantime no drinks were offered at the table. When we asked for drinks, we watched them sit on the side for some considerable time before a member of our group collected the drinks and severed them. Overall very disappointed however one star earnt for good chips. We will not be returning any time soon and would most certainly not recommend.
