Three Horseshoes in East Hertfordshire

Went for lunch today, the Fish and chips was one of the best I’ve had and my partner couldn’t fault their Roast Pork. The Garden looks beautiful since the refurb and the pond looks so much better with all of the terrapins! The kids loved exploring the garden too, thank you!

We have been wanting to visit this pub for ages as we always drive past on a regular basis. We decided to visit for lunch today (4 adults). We spent £180 in total and the food was average and the service was terrible. We ordered 4 sharing starters. We received 2 and after asking about the other 2 received the third. The 4th never arrived even after asking 5 different waitrons who all ignored my plea for my 4th starter. Finally after dessert I spoke to a shift leader and I got it as a takeaway. Our table number wasn’t an option when ordering so we used an adjacent table number. Even so, it appeared that none of the waitrons seemed to know where the temples were. We would see them walking aimlessly around the large garden asking customers if they had ordered our food. We got asked if we’d ordered calamari, which we hadn’t and sent them back to their search for its owner. Cutlery was very hard to obtain. I asked for cutlery for the 4 of us and I got 1 knife and 1 fork. I had to ask 3 more times before we revived anything to eat our food with. A very expensive experience for sub-par service.

Lovely refurbishment, friendly staff, Kayla was very nice and attentive. The lamb was lovely and melted in the mouth. The seabass was nice, however, I have had better elsewhere, the gravey with it was an interesting choice. Quite pricey but you pay for quality over quantity.

Stop here on our way home from shopping for an impromptu lunch. Had a couple of drinks and checked out the menu. The cheapest main courses were £17.50. (Sausages and mash) We passed on food and went to our local pub and got 2 meals for what one would have cost. Nice pub but 5star prices for 3star establishment

Great food and lovely atmosphere. Bella was really attentive and her food suggestions turned out to be a great choice. Massive portions no matter what you pick. The garden looks even better after the refurbishment too. Will definitely will be coming back

Great food and atmosphere, not waiting very long for food and great service. The place has recently had a very well done refurb and looks great. The Asahi beer was delicious as well. The food was great value for money, I had fish and chips and the wife had "the best burger ever" so high praise indeed from Mrs P. Plenty of parking spaces, good size outdoor area (grass needed cutting, but no suprise after the amount of rain recently) and a lovely pond area with decent fences in case of small curious humans lol. We will return, because I want to try that burger and the Asahi was superb.

Looks very nice since the renovation. Went for lunch a couple of weeks ago and it was ok. Returned last night for dinner and it wasn’t! Ordered olives with our wine and they turned up 10 mins later with our starter. The main course was not very nice, I ordered the vegetable tart, which wasn’t great and opening a bag of rocket and emptying it onto the plate does not make a salad. But the biggest problem/rip off was my husbands ‘market fish’. No price so he asked what the fish was and how much, waitress said ‘cod’ and it was £15. So he ordered it. It was ok. Checked the bill and found we had been charged an extra £6. When we queried it, we were told that the £15 was purely for the fish, the few potatoes, green veg and sauce was the £6. Did feel for the waitress, she didnt know and had to ask someone else, she was quite young. The food wasn’t great but the biggest problem was the extra charge which was not on the menu. The food feels mass produced and lazy and the atmosphere is poor. Really disappointed

Went yesterday 06/04.......had been before refurbishment.......still amazing , yummy food, staff so polite, and happy. Big menu choices for all tastes......my lunch was the bestest. Big up to all the staff, this was a totally fabulous experience. I will be back!!

Lovely food and nice atmosphere Alicia was very welcoming, poliet and friendly.

Went for Wedding Anniversary. Ordered a medium cooked steak. It came out rare so had to send it back. The replacement had not been rested and so bled on cutting and parts were still rare. We decided not to stay for dessert. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

Really good service our waiter Rob was really helpful and polite, food was delicious very impressed with the new opening.

This is a really nice pub. Driven past it so many times but recently realised it was being refurbished and then decided to try it. The food was fantastic, the service friendly and really good as it was busy but unusually there were enough staff to cope. Try the crab and asparagus salad it’s awesome.

Very enjoyable lunch today, food was great and our server Rob was very friendly and tentative.

The refurbishment looks amazing and inviting. Even with the increased prices the food was hot (only criticism some of family members found the roast potatoes were hard ) and presentation outstanding. Although busy we were not rushed and service was excellent. Would recommend and will be returning.

Excellent service and standard of food. Bar staff and waiting very friendly and helpful with one member in particular standing out for her engaging manner and proactive attitude. Pretty sure her name was Aisling and she is an absolute credit to McMullens!! Would recommend to anyone who can be bothered to listen to me for long enough!!

We had a small baby shower at the three horseshoes today the 23rd March and Josh the manager was very helpful and attentive with all our needs we had a lovely few hours there with family and friends and food was great for what we wanted Thankyou to Josh and his team

Just come back from a meal at the 3 Horseshoes steak was unedible so was not charged for it .Lasaagne was tastless and over priced . We have not eaten there for a long time and were very dissapointed and will not be returning any time soon. Just like to say the staff were excellent,

The decor at The Three Horseshoes, Hooks Cross, is fresh and bright. The new outside seating area is a welcome addition. The service with Roy was excellent. The menu is ok, but the prices are very expensive. The option for a small plate or large plate has been removed. I'm not sure if I will be back, as there are cheaper places to eat locally, that are just as good.

Lights were dimmed halfway through the meal which was a shame because it was already quite dark and I like to see my food. Our server Claudia was lovely though and staff welcoming.

rob was our server and he was really lovely, drinks and food came out quickly. star of the show were the onion nests. will definitely be going back.

Used to come here all the time before the shut down, came today for the 1st time since then, everyone was sooo welcoming, the place looks lovely, I Love the loos, they look sooo beautiful with its flock wallpaper ❤ the taps on the other hand .... maybe the pressure is too high ?? Have to be careful you don't get soaked whilst washing your hands ! But I LOVE the new look, and can't wait to see the garden when it is finished ! I love the fact you can now sit around the lake and watch the Turtles at play !

Great food, friendly helpful staff

The pub has only just reopened we were invited to taste the food and see the service. All 8 of us were not impressed by the food, if we were paying I believe they would have been 8 dishes going back. The usual staff were aware of the situation also the price are very high when you can go to other pub’s and get better food and pay less.

Dropped in at lunchtime, place looks great and staff were all friendly. Impressed with the food, good value for money.

Went on a date night with my handsome partner and had one of the best meals/evenings I’ve had in a very long time. The pub was beautiful, the staff was amazing, especially Josh and Beth. Food was delicious. We will definitely be returning.

I attended this restaurant with more than 15 members of my family so the pressure was definitely high for the workers at this restaurant. This is being taken into account as I am writing this review for fairness purposes. Firstly, I shall start off with the food. The food was very nice as a whole, The starter (smoked salmon and that bread with capers) and the main (some slow roasted pork dish I believe) were very nice and I have no complaints. I also didn't hear complaints from anyone else in my family about the food. The brownie desert was however a bit too sickly for some of the members in my family but I had a taste and it was quite nice. Just keep in mind it's not for the faint of heart lol. Atmospherically, the restaurant was very nice, the chairs were comfortable and the table was set out nicely. I have but one complaint. The only reason why this review is not 5 stars and only 4 is due to the service. Overall and for a family of a smaller size, I am sure the service would be sufficient enough but this was my experience so it must be mentioned. Within the members of my family we brought along, we had one child who we had to mention separately as he wasn't originally coming with us, unfortunately and despite us giving the order of food weeks beforehand for efficiency, his food never arrived and for the starter, main and dessert we had to ask for his food each time. We also had to wait quite a while to be given a high chair for the infant in the family. Minus those two points, the experience as a whole was excellent and I do recommend anyone to attend.

Came here with a group of others for a friend's birthday lunch. As always the staff were great and the food was delicious. It's a lovely pub and my favorite time to go there is a summer's evening to sit outside with a drink and something to eat. Their sharing plates are delicious and plenty for 2 to share. We did see a notice saying that they were closing from the 29th January 2024 for a 3 months refurb so check before you go.

Came to the Three Horseshoes on a recommendation of a friend, decided to come in January when we "thought" it would be quiet but it was packed we couldn't believe it. We soon learnt why! The staff were exceptional from greeting us, the service and the friendliness of everyone even though busy. Food was delicious, hot and value for money and the drinks were well priced and served promptly. Lovely experience and we will 100% be back! Thankyou again for a lovely time

Disappointing experience overall, food extremely average and appalling value. Mushroom starter very short of mushrooms and main course no better than ok, roast beef overcooked and tough, as was the Yorkshire. A side order of stuffing contained a single small stuffing ball (at least it raised a laugh) and the side of cauliflower cheese was disappointing. Desserts looked the best of the three courses (I abstained) but still pricey. The pub does get some decent reviews. Either we were unlucky or other people have lower expectations.

Came here for Christmas Day dinner with family. Food, on the whole was very good but it cost us £82pp. For this, we were under the impression we would receive coffee and mince pies at the end, but the lady serving said this would cost us extra. When we got home and checked the menu, this should have been included as part of our meal. We were also charged 10% service fee at the end, which took the meals to over £90pp. Felt let down when we got home.

Had the cod which was lovely. But for £17 really think it was riduclous to put only 2 new potatoes cut in half and a spoonful of veg. Good food lovely staff and don't except a huge meal...but equally don't expect to go away still hungry

It was my birthday dinner and I have been quite disappointed to be honest. We ordered a started of bread and butter which came out freezing cold (just from frozen) and stale. We spoke to the waitress who took it back and promised us another bread to resolve the issue. The second dish of different bread we received was once again freezing cold from frozen and stale again. We once again returned the dish uneaten and were offered more bread in which I explained to the waitress if it’s from the same loaves surely it would still be stale, she agreed and said she would take it off the bill. I was grateful for this but still felt we missed out and the issue wasn’t resolved. The main was nice, the smoked salmon was top quality. My brother and grandmother had the fish with new potatoes in which you got 2 tiny roast potatoes in the dish sliced which was nothing, the dish was very small and both left not feeling filled up at all even though the food itself was lovely. My mother enjoyed her curry although they forgot the hallumi but the waitress resolved this. Deserts were probably the only part of the dinner that went smoothly, they were lovely. Service was good but let down by basic aspects of the food such as stale bread , lack of potatoes. I would go here again if the things above were amended, I had really hoped for a very enjoyable birthday meal but it was let down

Great pub warm atmosphere and great food…very friendly staff

Been coming here for years so always a bit of a worry when management you know well change. We needn't have worried. Josh and the team were superb. One of the best Christmas Day lunches I have ever eaten. I look forward to our next visit.

Despite a busy time of year we were able to get a table, super friendly efficient staff , great food and an absolute bonus for me was the coffee Creme Brulee which was to die for! Makes a lovely change for somewhere to do something different, and especially coffee flavour so thank you and well done! Loved it
