Great food again accommodating staff only thing I would add is I had the fish pie which great flavours But very watery sauce need thickening was OK when mashed up potatoes in it

Came down here from Leicester and I must say some of the best food me and my partner have had ever from a greene king 10/10. the service we had from the waitress ally and the manager Dave was 10/10 would recommend all super friendly and food is absolutely amazing, allows dogs and has treats and water for them. I will be coming here again. Thank you for some amazing food for an amazing price. From Alex and Steph!

On a nice autumn night it was a real pleasure to call into The Five Horseshoes for a wonderful dinner. I have been here a couple of times and am never disappointed as the staff are always very cheerful and welcoming. We were seated at our table and served by Ellie, who was very attentive and pleasant, making sure we had drinks whenever we were getting low and ensuring our order was correct. I had Steak and ale pie and my wife had the Cod. Both were cooked to perfection and compliments to the chef for this. I would recommend calling into this restaurant if you are ever in the Hertford area.

We came here during a long walk round the area. We had messed up the timings of our lunch so could only have a starter as it was too close to dinner. Nevertheless it was super tasty, and I would like to eat a full meal here. The staff were also very friendly.

We booked lunch for 20 people to celebrate a 60th birthday - Lou, Jackie and Raph were waiting on us and couldn’t have been friendlier or nicer - all 20 meals came out (even the ‘awkward’ orders) to the right people, lovely and hot we had a fabulous relaxed afternoon with lots of laughter - thank you for helping to make a special day more special

My first experience with this pub !!! Feel it needs tender love and care bit drab and unkept need lick of paint and a deep clean and decent lighting dim light hides the dirt There was one bar/ waitress acting really weird making comments for no reason and holding a stare very strange Food was burnt staff apologied and refunded said chef took his eye of the gnocchi it wasn’t gnocchi tho it was tin potatoes instead!!! I did go back one more time but same girl there acting strange and despite ordering dessert With her it never arrived So paid for what we had and left I dont pay money to be made to feel uncomfortable

We we're on holidays from Northern Ireland and called in for lunch , highly recommended very tasty and the staff were fantastic

We visited yesterday lunchtime . Not being local saw this pub & went with the other excellent reviews all of which were true. Staff were so welcoming ,attentive and nothing was too much trouble.Great varied menu, excellent well presented food and a good atmosphere.Hope to visit again one day.

Summer night’s dinner with the family. Great menu, food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was exceptional. Lovely staff and the chef came out too. This is one of the only gastro pubs in the area open for dinner on a Monday. Highly recommend.

We booked a meal here on a Saturday, late afternoon. We live nearby but had never tried this pub. It's really spacious and homely inside and we were given a nice quiet table by the window. We brought our one year old daughter with us, and found that there was a great choice of things on the kids menu. There is also a pretty good variety on the main menu. I ordered the fish and chips, which was lovely. My husband had the pie. Unfortunately they brought out a mushroom pie instead of the steak and ale one ordered. However, the staff quickly rectified it by taking it off the bill and offering to bring the steak one. Dessert was also really nice and there was a good variety of drinks on offer. I would definitely recommend this pub if you are looking for a nice relaxed meal with classic pub food.

15/06/2024: First visit here for a long time. Quite busy and we hadn't booked but were eventually found a table to our liking away from speakers playing rather intrusive unnecessary music. Ordered a small plate each from the lunch menu but had to wait absolutely ages for them to arrive so if you're in a rush don't go here! 🙃 The steak sandwich in ciabatta was very good but the "Great British Cheese Toastie" wasn't. I was expecting an open slice of toasted cheese but this was a thickly sliced sandwich with little cheese inside and therefore mostly bread. I feel this should have been made clear on the menu. The onion chutney on the side was nice.

Out for a day with a friend and after attending this restaurant with my wife we decided to go for a drink and lunch. Never disappointed when visiting here. Greeted by Dave, we had a drink at the bar before being shown to our table. We were given ample time to look at the menu, Summer was fantastic as our waitress, not being over attentive but not letting our drinks run out. I ordered steak which was cooked to perfection. My friend had Lamb Shank ShepherdsPie, which he loved. A fantastic hidden gem of a pub which I always enjoy a visit to.

Just turned up one Saturday afternoon by chance. Such a warm welcome, great atmosphere. Decided on the Pork Belly and said to my husband if there’s no crackling I’ll have the chops. Which h e ordered. There was no crackling with this dish but they were so lovely they made it for me. Not been to a more friendly, accommodating and attentive team in a pub for a while. Lovely, Thank you.

Great service and excellent food

Excellent range of 'No-Gluten Containing meals (NGC)', far better than most restaurant chains and, very helpfully clear menus. Much better than having to trawl through 14 potential allergy concerns. However you'll need to print out your choice of 4 NGC menus from the website in advance, as the staff weren't even aware that there are menus! Instead, they just offer a tablet computer, which is not as customer friendly. Not a good start, as it gives a very poor first impression. Happy to visit again, but will need to come prepared next time, very strange.

Great food, couldn't recommend a single change to the Sunday roast options, such a filling platter of meats and veg. I'd only rate the Guiness which was quiet bad, it's either me or pubs these days but cannot find a good Guiness anymore...

Cozy country pub that’s been beautifully restored. Plush restaurant that oozes class with a menu to back it up - Great Food - Well done to the owners for their warm hospitality (Dave & Jill) and Excellent service.

Visited in Saturday night without booking and the lady that greeted us kindly secured us a table. I had the mushrooms to start which were very good, my wife had the halloumi fries which she said were the best she's had. Mains, I had their Ultimate Burger which again was very nice, my wife had the Cajun chicken burger which was huge and very tasty. We had sticky toffee pudding and the strawberry caramel cheesecake both of which were decent. Had a very pleasant evening and would return. Have to say that all the staff were faultless. They were genuinely keen that we enjoyed our food and made recommendations on what to order. Service was attentive, accurate and perfectly timed - thank you.

Went with friends for a early dinner we had there supper club menu which was really value for money we all had streak pie with all the trimming good size potion and. Delicious followed by sticky toffee pudding also delicious . The staff were very attentive and pleasant one off our party was in a wheelchair and every one was extremely helpful . We had a really enjoyable few hours highly recommended this charming pub

We visited for the first time since 2021 and hoped it was the same as we used to visit regularly, well the service was 10/10, drinks and food so tasty hot and fresh. Kids meal portions were huge and the chicken burger was the best burger ive had. Dog friendly also which is a bonus after a long walk. Wont leave it so long again!

We go here for dinner regularly as it's local to us, nice atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff , food lovely and reasonably priced and we can use Tesco vouchers

We located this pub for absolutely no regrets. Still fortunately very public with fantastic pub food and more. Once you visit you’ll understand very cosy very traditional. We often attend with our family and never have bad meal and if the kitchen is a little bit slow, most of the staff Make up for it. They’re only human. Three or four of the staff are exceptional. The manager is always very helpful and willing to go the extra mile. We attended last Christmas Day, that’s how much we trust this place it was 14 of us and we had a great meal.yes they were busy, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s a pro not a con. So I want to write this review for others to appreciate and share our experiences in this magnificent pub.

We know this restaurant of old having been here many times over the years. But, for some reason, we haven't been for quite a few years now. We only popped in for lunch as a last minute decision but am so pleased we did. Lovely welcome when we arrived, place not busy for a Friday lunchtime which was a surprise, but the lovely old pub didn't disappoint. It's a great place with it's old English country pub feel, and the food was great. Garlic mushrooms and Korean BBQ chicken to start, followed by a lovely steak pie and a generous burger. Nothing to fault about this place, welcoming friendly staff, great reasonably priced food, in a lovely setting. We'll be back!

We'd picked this as a good location for extended family to get together. The pub itself is is a lovely location and had a great atmosphere. Unfortunately service was incredibly slow. Half an hour wait for drinks, and over 45 minutes to get food (wasn't asked to order food at the same time as drinks). Food itself was great but staff were very thin on the ground, and there were no apologies during the ordering or service for the delays. We did raise this and had a satisfactory resolution but it would have been so, so helpful if, when we arrived we were advised that there were delays [and possibly prompted to order some starters/sharing items], and even more helpful if we'd been advised of the sort of wait time anticipated.

We have been here a few times, travelling from Hertford. This really is a lovely pub, fantastic food (recommend the pies), a great selection of drinks and it’s always a pleasure to see Louise who always provides service with a smile. Highly recommended.

I ordered the roast beef which was poor. I was really looking forward to a Sunday roast. The beef was over cooked and the veg seemed like they were frozen (not fresh). My partner ordered the wild boar sausage and mash which consisted of 2 measly sausages in mash. Poor value for money. Really sadly disappointed.

I would call good service maybe using a pen and paper/ I pad to take orders if the orders cannot be remembered. There was drinks that were ordered and not brought until we asked again. And staff made my party feel extremely uncomfortable with staring and questions that were not needed. We will not be using this pub again or recommending it. Thanks for a disappointing evening.

Decent pub food . I ended up here for lunch with a disabled friend. The place was very busy, possibly because several other pubs nearby were not serving food! This meant that the staff were very busy and service was a bit slow. But they really made an effort and were very accommodating to my friend's needs. The chicken and ham pie that I had was excellent and generously sized, and served with plenty of chips and veg. My friend's fish and chips looked very good too, and he was very satisfied.

I came in for a meal on Tuesday with my wife and was very impressed. The Two lady’s who seated us and took our orders were very smiley and helpful with a few questions we had. I ordered the sirloin steak and it was cooked to absolute perfection, I’m a big steak eater and I would happily say that it was the best sirloin I’ve had in a restaurant for a long time. My wife had the steak and ale pie and said it was delicious. Very nice pub, with a Christmasy vibe, I look forward to going back in the new year.

The pub was very busy and disabled parking non existent. Got seated, ordered drinks which came quickly. Two of us ordered food which took about 30 minutes to be served. Waitress was terrific and help by cutting my fish. Food was good and good quantity.

We, unwittingly, chose a very busy time-it was Wednesday lunchtime. Parking was tricky as I am disabled. Ordered but waited over 20 minutes for the food. The food was excellent and the service was very thoughtful helping me by cutting my food up. The lady who served us couldn’t have been more helpful.

The food was flavoursome and very well presented. Good quality. Venue was a beautiful typical county village pub, oak beams, and authentic decor. Good gastropub serving standard dishes, a few interesting specials and reasonable wines at sensible prices in a quaint building. Small garden but bar is pet friendly so it's an excellent place to start/finish a country walk. Staff very friendly too

The whole place needs a revamp it is so dirty and grimy , I noticed dog smell on entering but was quickly jumped on and led into some dingy areas but I asked for a window seat , the man behind bar yelled to girl get our drink order before we even sat , to be honest all this now seems like it was to grab us and make us stay , maybe my face showed I was not impressed . If I was alone I would of walked out, to pay £16 per head for a average meal in a dirty pub is not my idea of a good experience .We left and went to a McMullens for coffee which was clean and very friendly . I would say avoid and look for somewhere else .

Please do not bother you open the door to a smell of dog urine dog followed by very dirty carpets , tables , chairs , paint work , windows the list goes on . The food was average at high end bar food prices ....

Went for a Sunday dinner here, service was good, food OK, parts of the roast beef required far shaper knives than were available and equally as chewy. Will come back as could have been due to the later time of arrival. But recommend arriving earlier for the better quality food.

Menu and photos of the building looked fabulous online. Was having a re-union with a few great friends, so thought Five Horseshoes would be perfect . Wrong....Food was awful, everything was overcooked! Probably due to the amount of time we had to wait for our main course. Wasn't particularly busy either.... Put a bit of a dampener on our evening... Wouldn't go there again.

Used to visit this pub regularly but returned for a family occasion today and was very disappointed. Lasagne was OK but the supposed accompanying salad was difficult to find on the plate. The meat pie was OK, but not homemade, The NO leaf salad was...

We ended up phoning other family members and booking them in later the same day. Well done James, he so nearly had us on the Chocolate Bomb pudding - (but we resisted a couple of times). That said we’re coming back to try it on his heartfelt recommendation. Great experience. Thanks to James and the team.
