We ate at The Castle Inn with my daughter who is coeliac. We always check in advance that places understand that cross contamination is the danger - cooking in a kitchen where there has been gluten on a surface or in a shared container. For coeliacs for example, you cannot cook chips in fat that has had any glutened batter in it. You have to have fresh fat in a cleaned fryer. We have discovered that many high end restaurants like The Ivy don't manage to offer this so it was so heartening that The Castle was meticulous about her needs. When the menu didn't offer an option she could pick, they found something different, making her cheesy mashed potato from scratch. It was delicious and we are so grateful for their kindness. We shall definitely eat here again when we're in the area.

I'm honestly staggered by how good this place is. Come every few months as a half way point for lunch with friends, and for the price the food is exceptional. Lunch the other day was goats cheese souffle and calves liver, and every5hing down the apple salad with the starter was well thought out. There are some amazing gastro pubs around stamford/ oakham way, and this easily rivals them for half the price. The food is always beautifully cooked, the menu changes often and the staff are lovely. 20 quid for two courses (photos attached) and the food is exceptionally good. Can't rate it high enough and bang on about it to everybody I know locally!

5 of us just had fabulous Sunday lunch. Selection and generosity of vegetables amazing. We all wanted a dessert but just didnât have room! Next Sunday going with 2nd grandson, going to have a smaller main course so I can have pud. Very friendly hosts and conscientious waitress. đ«¶đ»đ«¶đ»

The Kitchen and Coffee used to be amazing, donât get me wrong the place is beautiful and the staff are amazing, itâs just really disappointing that theyâve really stripped back the menu and upped the prices. I donât feel thereâs any value for money that reflects the options or prices. Such a shame :(.

Thereâs an argument that you shouldnât recommend good place as next time you come there are no free tables. Saying that the bacon sandwich was the best I have had in a long time and the pancakes fresh and cooked to perfection. Weâll be back!

We had an overnight stay on a cold wet blustery day. Our room was warm and welcoming ...fresh milk in the fridge and extensive range of teas , coffee and hot chocolate on the hospitality tray. Our dinner was exceptional, cooked to order by chef Nick. Following a starter or home made chicken liver pate I chose chicken while my husband selected home made steak and ale pie. ( Thursday is pie night and the selection of fillings could not disappoint ) Drinks were brought to our table and at the end of the evening we were asked when we would like breakfast in the morning. This was cooked fresh to our order and the choice was excellent. Many thanks ...we hope to return .

The MH within the grounds of Grimsthorpe is the sole food outlet, excluding ice cream . We arrived lunchtime and most of their menu had sold out, reducing the choice. 2 coffees a bacon sandwich and a sausage bap was ordered. After a short wait they arrived in tin foil. The bacon was cremated and rock hard. The sausage bap, the sausages were partially cooked resulting most of the bacon and the white bread was discarded and some of the sausages not eaten. A poor show at ÂŁ15.60.

Awesome... I really have been there, done that, from a dollar street banquet to Shimla pinks, I didn't think I was going to get a great spicy, risky hot meal when I moved here. If you want something mild, this is the place, if you want to cry and sweat in pain (or just clear your hay fever) just let them know, great staff, great cooks. Simple - its great, fresh and - great. doesn't need to be anything else, great is perfect.
