Lovely beer garden, great place to meet with friends for a drink. Although pretty expensive. However, you pay for the atmosphere aswell. Can go winter and summer and sit outside as they have heaters!

Lovely staff and very friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat outside in the covered, heated, no smoking area as we like to take our two little Yorkshire Terriers with us. The staff also gave us blankets and some little scraps of meet for the dogs. How nice.! Thank you for a lovely experience.

As a frequent visitor to The Royal Oak who enjoys taking advantage of their rather large and excellent beer garden, I've found a recent comment rather puzzling. The reviewer claims the establishments website says they're dog friendly (a conundrum in itself as they do not currently have a website) and then goes on to claim they're not dog friendly at all. I wouldn't normally take the time to dispute someone else's experience, but I found this particular comment to be both unfounded and unfair, especially as their main complaint is that they couldn't bring their dog inside - an entirely reasonable expectation when a dog 'inside' creates multiple hazards and safety issues for both staff, customers and itself. Dog friendly doesn't automatically mean they can access all areas. The owner is clearly a huge dog lover and provides ample facilities for dogs out in the beer garden including a large, well heated and sheltered patio (particularly pretty at night when all the lights are on!), water bowls and an absolutely fantastic dog barrel dispenser (pictured!) Many people in Long Bennington use these facilities most happily with their canine friends on a regular basis, myself and friends included. As long as you're not attempting to sit outside in short-sleeves during the British spring time, the outdoor heaters provide ample warmth for those looking to enjoy a drink and a natter in the company of their dogs. My personal experience has been nothing but positive - friendly, warm staff, great menu, great atmosphere both inside and out. Highly recommend!

The Royal Oak is so welcoming and accommodating. We regularly go for evening food and take our dog who is more than spoilt with treats from the staff. The food is great, we always leave, planning on when we will return again. The garden is great to sit outside in the summer with a huge open space for families and in the winter with multiple heaters and blankets keeping us and our doggy’s warm. Would recommend to anyone, the staff is so kind.

Great local pub. Limited opening so phone ahead or visit thier website for the opening hours. Limited bar area but the large beer garden at the rear of the property is a great place to sit and relax. Mixed clientell from children to the old guys sat on the internal bar stools. Service for the garden is from a hatch which does become a little congested at busy times. The food looks good but I have not eaten here so far. The Sunday lunch is legendary in this part of the world and a reservation is a must. The staff are friendly although a Limited selection of beers and ciders, but this is a rural pub so it makes sense not to stock a massive city center choice of drinks, I would think this is why their pricing is competitive and not expensive. Great place to visit.

Went for a nice peaceful drink after work and was told as soon as we walked in that it was last orders at 6:20. Already a very cold atmosphere. I was fully aware the pubs last orders were at 6:30, however I only wanted one drink and there was plenty of people in the beer garden. I sat down for 25 minutes to finish my drink with my partner and was told to “ pass our glasses and drink up “. Thought it was extremely rude, as no other customers had also been to do so. Would not recommend.

Trip advisor is not designed to have a personal attack at anyone who works in business. However I frequent this establishment now and again and I have to say Rachel is the most accommodating pleasant person I have dealt with in hospitality without exception. So I don’t understand why this person on this nasty review wouldn’t have just spoke to her on the visit in question? After all manners cost nothing.

In response to the last review. I was there at the time you visited and can completely disagree with you. You walked upto the bar and spoke to the bar staff rudely and without respect. When you ask for something you usually say ‘ please ‘ This word seems to be missing from your vocabulary. The staff member was well within her rights to correct you and should have asked you to leave There are two sides to every story - your view of it is completely wrong.

Nice Sunday lunch, good friendly service and the food was hot. No complaints on that side of things. Shocked to be charged £12.95 each for a 3 Yr old and 5 Yr old for a smaller sunday lunch when ours was just under £16 each. We didn't want them having the kids choices from the menue which was chips and fish fingers when they enjoy there veggys and meat. I think this very over priced for a toddler/small child Sunday lunch.

Started with a positive when booking and the staff were really accomodating, ordered drinks, main courses as no starters on the menu, the food was delicious home cooked food with plenty of vegetables to accompany our main dishes, then it went a bit down hill with the service, sat there for ages waiting for anyone to ask if we needed another drink or deserts, we then stopped someone to ask for the next course and drinks, amazing deserts, then nothing again, no offer of coffees or even another drink so stop another waiter for the bill (these were just young adults with not a lot of experience) He wasn't very sure what we needed to do, but we went to the bar to pay!! Overall food was amazing just more attention to customers and their needs which would be a benefit to their business selling more drinks/coffee etc and keeping customers happy.

Usually go to the Reindeer pub when in Long Bennington and will stick with that in future. Decided to try the Royal Oak for a change with my dog after checking it was dog friendly first and found it to be the most unfriendly place. Ordered my drink at the bar and went to sit down. Was then told by a member of staff “you can’t sit there with a dog” no other advice on where I could sit, and zero signage, so I went outside to sit in the cold and promptly left. Would not recommend purely down to the miserable staff and zero atmosphere.

Two of us came here for lunch on a sunny Friday, and what a heaven of tranquillity we found. Inside, the pub is immaculate, cosy and comfortable, with plenty of seating and that indefinable atmosphere of a traditional country pub; warm, welcoming, a quiet haven away from noise and bustle. We both chose the haddock and chips, which was truly delightful, just as proper fish and chips should be; large, succulent haddock, light, crispy batter, etc etc. As it was sunny we ate outside in the enormous garden at the back. Peace reigned, and the ouside world faded away. Deep joy...We shall be back as soon as duty allows.

Always busy and a popular spot for food, especially now one of the competitions fare has gone downhill. The Sunday lunch we found was just sufficient, not a hearty portion, in fact some may say a little meagre. A return visit with friends on a Saturday was a wider choice of menu but the waitress who served us did not tell us about the steaks on the board despite me asking if there were any specials, she seemed a bit distracted and was just going through the motions. The food we had was on the whole tasty, especially the liver and bacon and the chilli, a nice touch was being offered half chips and half rice for those of us who can't make our mind up. The burger came with relish despite asking for non and the pie was not a pie in my book, my pet hate is a meat in sauce with a pie lid put on, this to me is not a pie. Definately affordable, the prices seem fair and we enjoyed our lunch so definately we will return

We went with friends for lunch, being Christmas week two of us had turkey and all the trimmings, which was delicious. Our friends really enjoyed their meals of minted lamb pie and the lambs liver followed by delicious desserts. Great relaxed atmosphere and good service, friendly and attentive staff. All in all a great lunchtime was had by all.

Went for a small Christmas celebration with a village group. Usual fare for this time of year but well cooked and presented. Fresh vegetables well cooked, even the sprouts were attractive to the palate! Dessert of ice cream selection looked lovely.A traditional pub venue well worth the visit.

I feel as though I need to comment after reading the previous review as I’m a regular visitor to this lovely pub. We came in on a Friday night which was as busy as always, the wonderful staff managed to find us a table even though we hadn’t booked. We love to sit in the bar area as there is such a good atmosphere. As usual our food was up to their high standards and always manages to exceed our expectations. We love their steaks and fresh fish along with their ever changing special menu all at reasonable prices. Please ignore the last review and keep up the good work The Royal Oak. We are looking forward to our next visit.

What a super pub situated in a pretty village and only a few hundred yards from the A1. I can't rate the Royal Oak too highly! We met for lunch and were delighted with everything. The food was delicious. My rib eye steak was tender and perfectly cooked. My brother-in-law and his wife both had liver with lots of crispy bacon and reported it 'very good'. My husband had the home-made pie of the day - chicken and bacon - a very generous portion. Decent portions of veg too. I had a well rounded merlot and there was a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks for the drivers. The service was attentive but not pushy. The toilets were clean and well supplied with all necessary bits and pieces.A first rate experience! Thank you.

We stopped here in the middle of a long drive and were warmly welcomed and looked after throughout.Food was tasty and plentiful, a huge portion of fish and chips for my partner and a delicious lamb pie with tender meat in a tasty gravy for me.The pub had a nice, cosy and friendly atmosphere, a good example of a true British Inn!Highly recommended and we would return if we were back in the area.

Good, wholesome, typical Sunday lunch. Friendly staff, convivial atmosphere. Ordered rare beef which came with gravy on the side, brilliant as stops beef cooking on the plate! Was with gluten intolerant friend, no problem there. If weather good there is a nice beer garden

No puedo esperar a volver.

5 of us just had fabulous Sunday lunch. Selection and generosity of vegetables amazing. We all wanted a dessert but just didn’t have room! Next Sunday going with 2nd grandson, going to have a smaller main course so I can have pud. Very friendly hosts and conscientious waitress. 🫶🏻🫶🏻

There’s an argument that you shouldn’t recommend good place as next time you come there are no free tables. Saying that the bacon sandwich was the best I have had in a long time and the pancakes fresh and cooked to perfection. We’ll be back!

Best eggs Florentine ever. Poached eggs were perfectly cooked, husbands English breakfast was piping hot with great quality sausage. Nicely done.
