Awesome... I really have been there, done that, from a dollar street banquet to Shimla pinks, I didn't think I was going to get a great spicy, risky hot meal when I moved here. If you want something mild, this is the place, if you want to cry and sweat in pain (or just clear your hay fever) just let them know, great staff, great cooks. Simple - its great, fresh and - great. doesn't need to be anything else, great is perfect.

We decided to have a drink in the pub after a wonderful meal at the Indian restaurant next door. We received a very cool welcome and the service went down hill from there. My husband had the temerity to ask how to use the ultra modern dukebox…… the person he approached was rude and condescending………she belittled him…….which is a shame.

Amazing evening made even better by the friendliness of the villagers and the outside band… The staff were exhausted running the orders BUT smiles all around and an overall fantastic evening.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome. Old pub in the process of being refurbished. Dave & Janet are fantastic hosts. The locals welcoming. No food at the moment but attached to the pub is a fantastic Indian Restaurant. No motorhome hook up available due to the works taking place, but Dave kindly let us have a electrical connect for my wife to dry her hair. A wonderful afternoon and evening, well worth a visit. When the refurbishment is complete ot will have B& B. Well worth a visit.

Pleasant staff, rather odd decor with a mix of Indian and musical motifs. Portions were small but pricey, service slow and then rushed. Don't think we'll return.

Brilliant! Didn’t fancy cooking after a full day, phoned an order through and it was ready within 30 minutes. Very pleasant seating whilst waiting, friendly welcoming staff. We had a mixture of dishes and all were tasty and some new to us and would certainly try again. An extra fish was added for us to try too. Thrilled to have a local village eat in or takeaway that is different from the norm. Well worth trying.

I have listened to the verbal rave reviews of customers who have used both the pub and the restaurant. A father's day treat was an absolute delight. The beer in the pub before dining was a must. What a range of drinks! The choice of real ales is excellent. A warm welcome from the staff in the Restaurant and very helpful advice if needed about the food on the menu and I must say great value reasonably priced dishes. I had Royal Chicken Korma and Pilau rice. An Ideal choice for a mild dish;wonderful!

Stopped off here just passing through with wife and dog over Christmas break. Open when many others shut. Lovely pub with very friendly landlady and landlord, took over relatively recently after place shut for a year. Apparently whole of front end just been redecorated and currently working on restaurant. Good selection of beers but I believe only bar food at the moment. Two open fires, very cosy. Dog bowl inside door and very happy to welcome dogs. Other customers were friendly and spoke highly of owners. Please support this place as " only pub in the village " and they are saving it !!

After a year with no village pub, I am happy to say the Old Ship Inn is open for business. There is no working kitchen yet, so don't expect food. The welcome is warm, and there is a treat jar for visiting dogs. The new owners are friendly and looking to make the pub the heart of the community again. There will be quiz and bingo nights, and intentions of crib and dominoes. Huge sofas by the wood fires, and good beer. Doombar on tap - can't go wrong! I can't give 5 stars - yet - simply because of there being no food. But it is early days, and I hope for great things 😆

Altogether an excellent experience particularly as it is a village pub complete with its local regulars who make you feel welcome rather than ignore you which is what you generally find when you walk into a "local". The food is good, wholesome and is cooked properly. The guest ale is kept well but a small selection of bottled bear wouldn't go amiss. Try and dine on Wednesday when they have a quiz night and join in. Its fun and not too competitive unlike some pub quizzes.

Came here on a Saturday lunch on a rare child free day! We ate of the dinner menu but only had mains, food was lovely. A varied selection and ingredients were obviously really good quality. I had the chicken in lemon herb crust on cabbage and chorizo which was gorgeous, Hubby had venison steaks which he thoroughly enjoyed too. Service was great, we noticed a great kids menu so we will be back with little ones soon!

The food at this country pub is just amazing! It has such a diverse menu, all home made food, cooked to perfection. I'm slowly working my way through the menu, but have far to many favourite dishes, that it's taking me a while. My favourites so far; ribeye steak, vension steak, lasagne and all of the pizzas to name just a few. The atmosphere here is warm and cuddly, everyone is made to feel so welcome! Not forgetting a delicious Sunday roast. So if your looking for somewhere different to eat then eat here!

Visting relatives in a nearby village they recommended we go to the Old Ship Inn and we weren't disappointed. The pub/ restaurant is very traditional but clean and the staff were very friendly. One of our party has coeliacs so her meals have to be gluten free and this wasn't any trouble for them and catered accordingly. Her pork dish she said was delicious! 1kg of mussels, fish and chips, steak and ale pie and scampi and chips all served with heaps of seasonal vegetable went down a treat!! Prices were on par with other establishments we have been to recently. We will definitely be back next time we are down in Lincolnshire!!

Came here for my mother in laws birthday. The atmosphere is relaxed and they offer a high standard of food. I went for 3 items on the menu I would never normally choose but they were all excellent. The young waiting staff are very attentive and came over to see if we would like more lights on as we were in the corner of the restaurant. My only very very minor criticism was the IPA ( I think it's their only real ale on offer) was from the bottom of the barrel and a bit 'soupy' and the fruit that garnished the cheese platter was past it's best. Only very minor points to an otherwise perfect meal :)

This is a re-do of my first review of this restaurant which I did in early June at the start of our two months in the UK and France, but which never got posted for some reason. We ate from the a la carte menu offerings. For appetizers, my wife had the duck and port paté and I had the baked goat's cheese salad. My wife is a duck lover and she raved about the paté and the subtle port overtones. The toast points were perfect as was the pear and plum chutney. My goat's cheese salad was perfectly baked with a vinegarette perfectly suited. For main courses, my wife had the pan fried Gressingham duck breast (I told you she loved duck) and it was cooked to perfection. If you know duck, you'll know how difficult this is to do with a duck breast. She said the cherries and wine jus was "exquisite." I had the supreme of chicken and I have to say that the mushroom gravy was probably the best gravy I've ever had. This chef has a local reputation for making wonderful gravy and I'd go back just to have gravy sometime. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding and was in heaven at the first bite. My wife loved her pear and almond tarte. We cannot say enough good things about the wonderful food this chef prepares in a simple, small-town pub atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, the service is quite polished and professional, yet friendly and relaxing. All in all, a huge value for the money.

Whilst touring the area with 6 friends, we book in advance for Sunday lunch at the Old Sip Inn. We have visited this restaurant before and were not disappointed. All of us had a 3 course traditional Sunday lunch and this was really good value and more importantly was cooked to perfection.I would advise booking a table just to make sure you can get served, as this restaurant can get busy which is always a good sign. The staff are very friendly and there is no rush, you can take your time and have a leisurely lunch. There is a nice reception / waiting area for coffee which we used whilst waiting for everyone to arrive. Personally I would recommend the roast lamb but the roast beef also had a good recommendation.Well done to all the staff.

This is my second review of this restaurant. My first seems never to have been posted and I'm hoping it is found as this restaurant is a gem. I'll re-do my first review if it isn't found. The first visit was so good that later in my visit to the area I made sure I was there for their "famous" pie and a pint Thursday evening. This special costs 8 pounds 99 and is worth way more in enjoyment and value. When translated into Canadian dollars, this is about $14.50. I frequent pubs often and I have never seen a pint and a pie anywhere for this little money. But, not only was it inexpensive, it was delicious! I had the steak pie and my wife had the chicken. Both pies were huge and filled to overflowing with meat and veggies and were served steaming hot. The pastry crusts were the best I've had on a savoury pie. Further, the pies were accompanied by loads of french fries and a huge platter of veggies cooking perfectly "al dente". The pint of Tiger was great as well. The locals rave about this restaurant and it's Cordon Bleu trained chef with good reason. I will return as soon as I can, I assure you.Service was excellent as well and the staff very friendly.

I have taken my family here on several occasions and we are all in agreement what first class food is served. As I suggested in the title top quality food at very reasonable pub prices. Went there again as we were impressed with the quality of food. Each time I have been I have plumped for the home made chicken and vegetable pies which I think are to die for. Only one complaint and that was the volume of food and I can eat. There was enough on my plate to share. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I believe the owner is the chef and have recommended this place to quite a few people who have also been happy there. We live quite a way away but will cerainly be going back again

Visited recently in the company of two further adults and four children. What could have turned out to be a pleasant, early evening meal was turned sour be the attitude of the chef unfortunately. Children meals were all happily received and eaten in full. Adult’s meals were average standard. One starter of goats’ cheese was ordered and a crab cake was received. On pointing out this error the chef was adamant that this was in fact a cheese cake not a crab cake - clearly not true as when the replacement goats cheese dish was brought it was totally different but minus the promised red currant sauce. Another point of comment was that there was smoked haddock on the menu and although no one at our table partook our vegetables smelled and tasted of smoked haddock which was not very complementary to either steaks or chicken. Service staff were attentive and pleasant and at the end of the meal apologised for the mix up and hoped to see us again. We offered our opinion in a civilised manner as to the quality of the food, paid our bill of over £100 and left a £10 tip for the service staff. On leaving the premises however, we were subjected to a very loud haranguing from the kitchen doorway by the chef who wished to point out that he was indeed a chef, the meals served were value for the money paid (obviously less care and attention is paid to under £20 meals) and he did not appreciate our comments. We chose to diffuse a situation, as we had children with us by ignoring his outburst and continued out into the car park but were followed to the main door where a tirade of abuse was forthcoming about what nasty people we were and how it was felt that we had been abusive about his ability as a chef.On trying to reason and explain that we were asked our opinion by his staff on what had been an average meal (once again, obviously what is to be expected when paying the prices he was levying) we felt that it was average and that we would be disinclined to pay another visit, he then once again stated we were nasty people and used foul language in front of the children. Not how a professional in any business would be expected to react and certainly not how to curry favour with the locals. One establishment to give a wide berth in my opinion due to management (chef) sensitivity and attitude.

Allthough only a village pub it does serve resturant quality food, All the steaks are prime Aberdeen Angus and serves great local vennison. Tried this last night and was very disappointed . First they got the drink order wrong and then on ordering our food , my partner asked for her Steak to be rare to medium, only to be told the chef was too busy for that, it would have to be rare or medium. After taking our order, the waitress then returned and said they did not have want I had ordered as my main course. So on selecting a different dish I needed to change my starter to compensate my diet, but was told it was too late to change. When the main course arrived we were disappointed that all they supplied was the Steak and French Fries, No Salad or Sauces. All in all I will not be returning to this Resturant

We live in Pointon and have tried most of the pubs out around this area. You'd think we'd be going here purely out of convenience, but it's actually one of the best. The owner is a lovely guy whose very passionate about the food that they provide. When we first moved here, he was very welcoming and we go there fairly regularly to eat now. The food is outstanding; better than standard pub fare. The pub quiz that they do is great. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, rather than cliquey like some local pubs.

We've tried just about all the pubs / restaurants in this region and to date haven't found any that can compete with this place on either price or especialy food quality. The chef, Andy is pleasant and certainly knows his stuff. The bar staff are also friendly and cheerful. We always choose to sit at the tables within the bar area rather than in the restaurant and on these colder nights the wood burning stoves add an extra element especialy with the 'real ales' they have.I've worked my way through the menu and still haven't found a dish i dislike and the portions are also a decent size and i like the way you can interchange items on the menu with no fuss. The house wines are fantastic, i'm not a wine buff but i know what in my opinion tastes nice. i used to think that house wine was the cheapest option and possibly not the best, the land lady Gail explained that she reseached her wines to get the best choice and can't fault her selection. We've also left our car there overnight on a few occasions so we could both have a drink with no problems.

Great little pub, with excellent food. The 6ft Chef is amazing, although he did bore us slightly with stories of his darts and pool prowess. Staff amazing also. Landlady is exceptional, just has a slight dictator vibe. Would highly recommend and will 100% come again. Weekend drinks are also meant to be a fun and social evening.
