Gluten free option for roast! Came with a friend for Sunday lunch - good options and food was great. Gluten free Yorkshire and gravy was no problem at all. No GF option (other than ice cream) for dessert but the chef offered to make a fruit salad which was incredible! Highly recommend.

Had one of those rare but memorable stays at the Cholmely. Beautiful twin room with en-suite perfectly maintained/serviced & furnished. The property, in a pretty setting is lovely and very peaceful with it's own farm shop selling lovely produce. Staff are pleasant, polite and efficient and the owner friendly & genuinely charming. We had an evening meal chosen from a fresh & extensive menu. It was delicious as was the wine. The breakfast menu was worthy of a 5* hotel (& I know because I've stayed in a few). The price of the whole evening including food & wine was beyond a bargain. If only it could all be bottled & served in B&B's nationwide....

This was a lovely place to stay. We stayed x1 night but had the Sunday lunch there. I am not joking, it was the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. I could hardly move, such healthy servings and very reasonably priced. The accommodation was spotless and private, feeling like it was your own room. The next day, breakfast. Again, amazing. The full English is exactly that, everything fresh, hot and tasty. Brilliant. Would definitely stay again.

Another trip to this fantastic place in the most loveliest of settings. We travelled from Nottingham ! - so worth the miles !! Me and my friend both had the gammon steak, egg, pineapple, divine homemade chips, mushrooms, onion rings, peas and half a beef tomato !! The gammon was so tender - a fantastic meal and great service. Popped into their farm shop before we set off home for my fix of their lovely sausages to take home !! Looking forward to the next visit !!

I have been here several times over the last two years most recently today. Every time the food is outstanding! Well presented, flavorful and hot food is hot! Staff are always friendly and personable. Today was a socially distanced lunch that was up to our expectations again. I had the steak and ale pie, served with fresh steamed seasonal veg and chips. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good food in a wonderful english village pub. Beautiful garden for the summer and covid! I looked at the other meals for guests and they all looked wonderful and mutterings from them showed they were equally well enjoyed. I almost hate to rate this place as its a hidden gem and I want to be selfish!

Good but not top Drawer! Much anticipated visit having waited a while to get their with Family left us a little disappointed. The portions were pretty big but the food just did not have any ‘stand-out’ qualities. The Gammon my wife had was very dry and served with bland plain rice, some of us had the fish (which was great!) but we then had to share a bowl of not great chips which was quite awkward to pass between the person having Lasagne, Steak pie and 2x fish dishes - Quite a strange way of dishing up food. We werent asked of we wanted extra drinks and had to go to the bar to get more..... Overall a real let down, But each to their own - I am sure some people love this place, Just wasn’t for me.

Just got back from an overnight stay with my daughter. It was just perfect for the relaxation and chill out we were looking for. The rooms are beautiful and the bed so comfortable, my daughter described it as like sleeping on a marshmallow. We had a beautiful meal the evening we arrived, the ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and the portions so generous. Breakfast this morning was simply delicious, hard as we tried we just couldn’t finish the enormous plateful. John, Lesley and their staff make you so welcome. We have decided this is going to be our annual treat.

Absolutely wonderful food; we had Sunday lunch. So much to eat of quality ingredients. 3 of us had different meats, chicken, lamb and beef and one of us had the vegetarian option of the linguine. Every meat was to die for, so very tender and tasty, the roast potatoes were crispy and yummy, the vegetables cooked to perfection and plentiful. The linguine was lush, according to my friend, and she took a doggy bag home so not to waste it, it was so good. Desserts were to die for. Again, good sized portions and beautiful to look at while being luscious to eat. We are excited to return, on a week day, to sample their alternative menu. The staff were attentive and professional, very friendly. Couldn't have been happier. The bill was extremely reasonable considering the excellent quality of the food and service. In the words of Arnie "we'll be back".....and soon. Thank you The Cholmley Arms.

Ate firstly in the evening and then booked for breakfast albeit e were staying down the road in a self catering. Brilliant pint - "Off the Peg" - don't miss it. We had creamy mushrooms with blue cheese and a black pudding with bacon and salad as starters followed by slow roast rib of beef and a venison steak - all very well cooked and delicious but far too many veg and chips! Recommend the eggs Benedict for breakfast but the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was also first class. Very friendly staff, comfortable surroundings - what's not to like?

Excellent food. The field mushroom with ham and rarebit was one of the best starters I've ever had. The food came promptly and catered for my gluten free girlfriend amazingly.Aside from the food, service seemed a bit lackluster and the waitresses seemed uninterested. Not laying starter cutlery out, putting it all in a pile at the side of the table and not answering our questions about the food to name a few examples. All in all, the food was well worth going back for, and we may have just caught the front of house staff at a bad moment. Would eat there again.

We visited for a midweek lunch, arrived around 12 and already three tables were already taken on the side of the restaurant where we chose to sit. Before being seated the young waitress on duty told us to order drinks at the bar. We waited and waited but no one came and the waitress never called out to find out where the bar staff member had disappeared to. Eventually I went and sat at a table whilst my husband hung around at the bar waiting to be served, a young man appeared a few minutes later. There was plenty of food choices on the menu also a specials board too.We were served warm bread & butter whilst waiting for our meals to arrive, the bread was very nice, sun dried tomato. For starters I had soup whilst my hubby had pate which was so light and tasty I wish that I had ordered it, not that there were any problems with my soup. Both of our main courses were with potatoes but also a portion of chips came out too, we think this may have come as standard but knowing that we had enough on our plates already we told the waitress we didn't need these. Our meals were very tasty and plentiful, no room for desserts.Waitress was polite but seemed to be a little rushed off her feet seeing as she was the only one serving the restaurant. We would return if in the area.

A friend and I meet regularly for a "girlie" lunch at a convenient halfway point. We had heard about this pub, and finally tried it on Thurs. Wonderful! The service was excellent, the food far too generous, and the bill amazingly reasonable. We both ordered the Ploughman's Regular, expecting a light lunch, but, when our meals arrived, we realised could easily have shared. My only regret was that there was insufficient room on my plate for the scrumptious chips, as my side plate was taken up with the warm crusty bread. We will be back, with others in tow.

Visited for dinner on recommendation of a local. Fortunately we didn’t order starters just the fish pie and the haddock but they were served with a huge dish of veg including potatoes and a dish of chips when both meals came with potato! We made suitable comment to the serving staff. The fish pie we’d have shared between us at home with a decent portion of veg. But the huge mains meant we didn’t order sweets and they lost extra spend and wasted uneaten veg. Not good business! Good coffee but much smaller portions would have made for a much better meal. In the current climate of emphasis on obesity we all need to watch our intake.

All food freshly prepared. Top quality food and service. I had beef and mushroom pie (suet pastry). This was exceptional. My wife had liver and bacon on a bed of mash. The liver just melted in her mouth. Both meals were accompanied by selection of vegetables and the best chips you could ever imagine. IF there is any cause for complaint, it must be that there is too much on the plate.!!!! We had no room for a sweet, and, from past experience, a great selection.

We were surprised how busy it was at such an early time which always bodes well for the quality of the food and we were not disappointed. I ordered rump steak which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Husband went for beef in chianti which was beautiful andtender and came with root vegetables. My son chose a burger which came in a toasted brioche roll with sweet potato fries and this was also extremely tasty. Only slight gripe was that when ordering we were asked if we wanted normal or sweet potato fries, however it was not made clear that the sweet potato was at an extra charge. Other than that it was a perfect meal and I would thoroughly recommend this place.

17 of is arrived for lunch at 1pm. The waitresses were lovely, orders taken quickly and starters arrived. Wow portions are huge here! I had the garlic and Stilton mushrooms and was expecting about 6 on a plate but no... a big bowl full of the cheese sauce with the mushrooms in. Copious amounts of good bread also came with the starters and good butter (always a good sign when the bread is good!). Mains, all roasts apart from my salmon, came with a huge Yorkshire pudding. And then all the veg and cauliflower cheese too. Portions are genuinely ginormous and I felt guilty the about that would be going in the bin afterwards. Had creme brulee for desert which was a manageable size! Spent 3 hours eating here and did not feel that we were rushed in any way. Only word of caution is that the room we were in was quite cramped in between the tables so you have to be aware of the space around you. So if you want a good 3 course meal for about £60 for 4 then I would recommend here.

From the moment we arrived for our 2 night stay, we instinctively new that we were in for a treat, and so it proved. John was straight over to welcome us, offer a drink, and show us to our accommodation. We had booked all 4 rooms, which were in a separate block around 50 yards from the pub. The block was built around 2 years ago and the rooms are spacious, modern and airy, with large comfy beds, fridge and TV and a lovely bathroom. All have a terrace outside with chairs and table, overlooking the garden, ideal for a party such as ours. Umbrellas are provided in case of rain, a nice touch. There is a good range of well kept beers and lagers. We had 2 evening meals, all substantial, great quality and attractively priced, with a sizeable menu range on offer plus a decent wine list. The breakfasts are probably the best we have ever had. John seems determined to ensure you eat no more until the evening meal (and we didn't); again the selection is huge, and just when you think you have finished, he appears with hot croissants and pastries to take with you if you are unable to eat there and then. This is a marvellous place in a lovely, quiet location. There's a farm shop on site, plus various animals. John and Lesley are wonderful, kindly hosts and it's impossible to praise it too highly!

Excellent atmosphere, top quality food and a wide range of drinks complement a meal at this fantastic venue. We have been several times and it has always met our expectations and even exceeded them. Despite being a little out of the way this is well worth making a detour for if you are in the area. The staff are really great looking after your every need with a smile despite being quite hard-pressed at times. The range of food is incredible and the quality superb! This is a place that we shall visit again and again but you do need to book well in advance particularly at the weekend as it is very popular. Don't hesitate, give it a try and I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

We were given a very friendly welcome when we first arrived and shown to our spotless, well appointed room in a separate annexe from the pub. They'd thought of everything from fresh milk in the fridge to a torch and a large umbrella for coming back from the pub in the dark or the rain (thankfully we needed neither). The bed was very comfortable and (always an indicator of how good a place is) the shower was excellent. We didn't eat there on our first night as they were fully booked but had a lovely meal on our second night. They were really busy but the service was excellent and we didn't have to wait an excessively long time. As promised on the web site of the Easton Estate (where the pub is situated) the breakfast was excellent - we didn't need to eat again until the evening and the quality was as good as the quantity!

Having heard many great reviews about this pub we were quite excited to be invited there to share a friends evening. As far as the food goes, the recommendations are justified, we enjoyed all our choices. What let it down was the seeming lack of interest by the staff. From the moment we arrived there seemed to be an un-friendly atmosphere, not welcome. We were shown to the aptly named snug which has an old pub feel, but felt awkward like we had walked in on an argument. Having been shown to our table and orders taken we enjoyed our meal but had to ask for the desert menu and then again for coffees. It was almost like ' you want coffee'! We dined from 7.30 till 9.30 so it was not like they were waiting to close but that's just how it felt, that they couldn't wait for diners to go. Shame lovely place spoilt by the staff.

We arrived for lunch close to the end of service but received a friendly welcome. The food was some of the best we have had in a country pub, both for quality and presentation. This is a great place for a lazy summer lunch with a small farm shop, lovely outdoor seating areas and an assortment of cute animals in the gardens to lose your heart to. If there is such a thing as a checklist on how to turn a country pub from ordinary to idyllic then this pub would tick all the boxes!

Went for an evening meal with my wife, recommended by my daughter who had been to Cholmeley Arms a few days previously. Arrived at 6.30 as per our reservation and, as we had never been there before discovered what we took to be the main dining room where 2 waitresses were setting up. We were shown into the "snug bar" - the seating is in need of clean as mentioned by a previous reviewer- and given menus while the waitress fed the house cat, who was seated on the window sill. I have no problems with cats (we have a cat ourselves!) but perhaps some diners might be put off (did she wash her hands afterwards?!) The waitress took our order and we continued drinking until shown to our table, which was not in the dining room I had first thought but in a second seating area around the corner from the bar near the kitchen. At that point we noticed the "Specials" blackboard, which had not been visible from the bar. We were somewhat disappointed that the specials had not been brought to our attention by the waitress, nor can I recall any reference in the menus we were given, however as our food was already being prepared, we made no complaint. although there were a few dishes on the board we that looked very appealing. When our starters arrived promptly, my wife enjoyed her smoked salmon & prawns, and my seafood chowder was excellent. The warm rustic bread provided was a nice touch. For our mains my wife had ordered the belly pork. This was a large portion of juicy succulent meat. By comparison my pork medallions were disappointing. Small and overcooked, they were very chewy, and the accompanying red pepper and sweet chilli sauce was very peppery, (as if the kitchen had been heavy-handed with ground pepper) but lacking any of the Asian flavours I would associate with a sweet chilli sauce. The accompanying peas and broccoli were ok.But my real disappointment was the lack of ambiance in the place. Perhaps it was the enormous "farmhouse kitchen" tables in our dining area which were so wide they made private conversation difficult,as did all the (regular) customers coming to view the Specials board opposite our table, perhaps it was because the 2 waitress running between the kitchen and both dining rooms were clearly stretched so customer service was less than perfect. I worked in the catering industry for many years, and I am reluctant to criticise any restaurant as I know how tough the business is and how fickle customers can be, so I write this review more in sorrow than in anger.

We had booked for Sunday lunch for my daughters birthday. Quite I tucked away village so you would be advised to use your satnav to find your way. Booked for 1.45 and still very busy in both dining rooms at this time. We were shown into the small bar and given menus and orders were collected promptly. We purchased our own drinks at the bar, and quite quickly shown to our table. We were in what seemed to be the older part of the building which we actually preferred to the modern room. We were 3 adults and 2 children. We had home made bread prior to starters. Adult starters were a crab and prawn platter, melon with fresh fruits and the garlic mushrooms. All very generous tasty portions and beutifully presented. The children had chicken roast, which were quite large childrens portions. The adults had the roast lamb, which was tender, flavoursome and melt in the mouth. We also recieved 3 huge dishes of veg, including cabbage, cauliflower cheese and new potatoes. The gravy was delicious. We were really struggling to finish our mains, so the adults didn't ha dessert but the children had the cheesecake, which was gorgeous. A birthday cake appeared after our meal, which had been kept a secret by my son in law, so a super surprise for my daughter, and I believe this is all done on a complementary basis, so many thanks. Waitress service was friendly and efficient. A superb meal. The garden have a few pens containing animals, which the children enjoyed making a fuss of, oh yes and a resident cat + a cockatiel!! The weather wasn't good otherwise we would've lingered longer. The pub also has a couple of rooms for rental. A great base if you are exploring the area.

Had supper here when there was a power cut. The staff handled the situation beautifully. The food was excellent, the service friendly and attentive. The veggie choices were a little thin on the ground but asparagus was in season and delicious and I had the pasta bake. A bit predictable but OK. I am guessing it was finished in the gas oven as the power was off and it was extremely hot, so hot I burnt my mouth which took a few days to heal, but I didn't complain. Huge portions so couldn't finish it all and did manage to at least try and eat the chocolate brownie and icecream dessert. Delicious.

I have just returned back from a meal at the cholmeley arms , on entering the back door I noted that it is very dirty and need a good Hoover and a full replacement of its carpets . The bar area is small the seating and cushions also need a good clean . The table we sat at was uneven and look like it needed tripping . Both my husband a I had a 12 oz streak which was tasteless , I must have had 4 oz of fat on mine . The peppercorn sauce did not taste anything like it should . Needless to say we didn't stay for a pudding and wouldn't recommend and will never return !!

We were told to visit the Chomley Arms by some friends and they said that the food was very good, We were not disappointed . The portion sizes were incredible and some of the meals you pcould feed 2 from. The food was hot and the menu was extensive with starters mains bad deserts .The restaurant is quite small and does get very warm especially when it us full so be warned .The service was ok but when busy it is difficult to refresh your drink as getting anybody's attention was quite frustrating.

Lovely beer garden, great place to meet with friends for a drink. Although pretty expensive. However, you pay for the atmosphere aswell. Can go winter and summer and sit outside as they have heaters!

There’s an argument that you shouldn’t recommend good place as next time you come there are no free tables. Saying that the bacon sandwich was the best I have had in a long time and the pancakes fresh and cooked to perfection. We’ll be back!
