The Boundary/ River Restaurant in South Kesteven

We came for lunch on Sunday and only three tables were occupied, including ours. Perhaps that was an omen ? We ordered plaice and chips and an apple juice each and asked for one in golden batter and the other in light batter. After a 20 minute wait the meals arrived but the batter looked the same for both. I queried which one was the light one and the response was a vacant look and an uttering of, "Er.....dunno". At this point the lady who took our order came over and apologised profusely and said the "chef" ( interpret that as "fish fryer" as the term "chef" is an affront to actual chefs ) had got the order wrong and arranged a replacement. The cost of the drinks was deducted from the bill. We both had a horrible aftertaste from the cooking oil for the rest of the day. My wife also had very bad indigestion and when we got home in the late evening I had severe stomach cramps and diarrhea. Will definitely never be coming back here.

Staff customer care is top class. Food served in good portions and fairly priced. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Been several times now and is still my favourite fish and chip restaurant. Everytime we visit my sister in law it's my first request to visit the Boundary.

I grew up in Deeping from late 60s, so been going to this chip shop for many years, now retired I visit the river restaurant twice a month with a friend. Thank you Rebecca for your excellent customer service yesterday, lovely food but it is the staff also that makes us return. Lovely ladies over the past few years. No better fish and chip's anywhere. I drive over from South of Peterborough so enjoy a visit to the antique shop also. I like to bring my dog so we sit overlooking the river. See you next week

This was our third visit here and each time has been excellent. We sat in the lovely well maintained garden. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We had the seniors meal which consisted of fish, chips bread and butter and either peas or beans with a large pot of tea. We finished off with homemade apple pie with single cream ( not uht) service excellent and staff lovely.

Warm welcome and great service yesterday. Delicious meal eaten in the pleasant garden. Highly recommend!!!

Went here for the first time today and will definitely be back. The cod was fresh and so tasty with a light crispy batter. The chips were possibly the best I’ve had, not overcooked or reheated as I’ve had in other restaurants. A bonus was we could have extra complimentary chips as we made our way through the meal. The place was spotlessly clean and the flower baskets at the front and the lovely garden at the back with rows of begonias were beautiful, all well tended, and a credit to the gardener. Our waitress was polite and efficient and very attentive. All in all a lovely lunch ….. absolutely no complaints

We wondered whether the place had changed ownership, as we were rather disappointed with our visit. We have eaten here before and loved it. The place did not feel clean. The tables, table mats, everything seemed sticky. Also, perhaps because the door between the restaurant and adjoining Fish & Chip Shop was open all the time (previously used to be closed) there was a very strong greasy smell. The ceiling looked dirty. My husband is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids, and the noise from the radio station being played through the overhead speakers was irritating. Also disappointed with the meal itself as the fish was very hot but the chips were at best luke warm. The lady serving was lovely, but I dislike being directed by someone that there is an "option to add a tip" on the screen when making payment. Presumably this is because they have gone cashless. Would recommend that the place has a deep clean and/or changes its table cleaning product if that is what is causing the unpleasant stickiness.

Staff always friendly and helpful food always hot and good value

I popped into here with my friend. We sat down, and a lovely server came over and presented us with a menu. We browsed through it and chose the fish and chips, mushy peas, and some bread and butter plus two cups of tea. It didn't take long to come, and neither of us was disappointed. The golden fish was very tasty, and the chips were perfectly crispy with a fluffy center. Mushy peas were very good, too, and the restaurant offered free chips on request. We also had scraps. Excellent service, very clean and tidy seating area. The toilets were very clean too. We will be returning again, and I recommend anyone who enjoys lovely, tasty food in a great setting to come and try for themselves. Cold drinks and a dessert menu are available.

Haven't been for 2 or 3 years but still just as we remembered it. Great food, excellent service.

I always go here but the other day was bad. New girl covered my fish and chips so much with salt. I had to throw them. Hopefully she will get better soon I didn't complain.

We have been visiting this establishment for over 30 years. Always had a great experience. However, yesterday was different. The fish to batter ratio was disproportionate. There was nearly more batter than fish. Also, everything tasted bland. The only good thing was everything was piping hot.

Bought 3 portions of chips for £9. Extremely disappointing. Ridiculously small portions of chips. £3 and you receive about 25 chips in a tiny box the size of small book. The service was good and the people are friendly but the portion size is unacceptable, you get twice as much for the same price at George's. This was like ordering off a child's menu! Charging £9 for what is essentially a large portion of chips spread over 3 small boxes is not good!

Very Small portion now, 2 sausages chips peas £ 10.60 lot of money for what we got.

First time using this fish and chip shop and it will be the last. We had take away and sat on the benches by the river. Battered sausage had hardly any batter on it and the fish was cold. Local sourced potatoes for chips was a nice touch but I'm afraid to say they were tasteless.

The most kindest attentive staff, informative of their menu and a wonderful fresh alround fish product with great variations. Took "she who must be obeyed" out for dinner. Food and service very good. Washed down with a cold beer. You get unlimited amount of chips with free refills.

Great food but the two times I’ve ordered online for click and collect. I’ve stood waiting and been ignored by staff. If you’re offering this service don’t ignore me standing under the click and collect sign. Food was ready so who knows how long it had been sitting there getting cold.

We ate in the restaurant Monday evening, nice location next to the river, would imagine this would be even nicer on a warm evening outside. Food was lovely - the portion size for the chips was small, but you can ask for more (I guess this helps to reduce food waste).

Just paid £7.50 for what turned out to be a big lump of over cooked batter with a tiny bit of fish inside. How can you over cook fish so badly?

Just lovely. Staff were very pleasant. Food was just right. I had the scampi and half chips which is an option and half salad. They even offer more chips if u want them.

The food is nice, but it’s very expensive and the portions are very small. Ordered a large chips and they barely covered the bottom on the box. Chippy tea is usually a cheap treat, but not here, a large chips definitely doesn’t do two adults. Would expect a lot more chips for the money!

Best fish & Chips around. Tasty and crispy, fresh fish, tasty curry sauce. Well recommended. I'm not complaining about the higher price.

Shrinkflation at its finest - A regular cod & chips should at least have enough chips to cover the bottom of the takeaway container. It was tasty, but far from filling.

I've never had such tough chips,ordered haddock and when I got home it was cod. Daughter had chicken and chips and chicken was more bone. Not returning.

Went there 25 minutes before it closed and fryers had already had been shut down. Chips were not very warm by the time we got home and only drove less than half a mile.

Fish and chips has to be the easiest foods to cook if you’re doing it all day, how I ended up with undercooked chips and dough like undercooked batter on fish is ridiculous. At least try with every serving for perfection. You may slip every now and then to a 7 or 8 /10 but the horrific mush I got served would be in the minuses

Ordered pie and chips and a potion of fish, the fish was so small, I thought it was a child's portion, it was also overcooked, very dry inside with no flavour. The potion size of the chips was very disappointing too, in the past we have shared a potion of chips between two adults, this time, hardly enough chips for one adult! Very poor value for money! This isn't the first time this has happened, so we won't be returning for it to happen again!

I have eaten here regularly in the restaurant for the past year and have ordered takeout for longer. I have never been disappointed with the food, the service or atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is flavoursome. 5 star.

They could improve the seating area but overall 10 out of 10, staff friendly and perfect fish, could recommend to everyone who likes fish and chips.

Lovely piece of cod and good chips, but for a chippy the quantities were small. It is rare that you go out for fish and chips and think you could eat some more. This isn't a tourist trap, so the cost doesn't justify the amount. I won't go back, but the food was tasty.

Sausage and chips and gravy £7. Chips were undercooked rock hard went back in complained and they gave us the same batch. I don't normally leave reviews but feel like I've been robbed. Worst chippy I've ever had

Awful fish and chips! Not sure how long the fish had been cooked for but very dry and the chips were rank! This is the 2nd review I've done for this chippy and all I can say is don't bother!! Drive a bit further to bourne.

Very quick service and quality food

Food was small, very over priced and average in taste. Need to have bigger portions for the price you pay. Will try the other chip shop next time.

Ordered 4 portions of fish and chips with some peas and curry sauce for 4 adults and a toddler.the food was great but there was far too much quantity.the quality was amazing

I was told by a local, I'd get great fish and chips here.... So unfairly to them I turned up at just before 1pm on a Monday and ordered my food. Great chips and great value.

Placed an order for around £80 they missed kids fish & chips was so rude on the phone told me if I wanted it I’d have come back pick it up and also pay for it won’t be ordering from here again

2 Haddocks were not cooked through. They were cold and watery inside. I presume they were cooked from frozen. Very disappointing as I have always considered this the best shop locally.

portion sizes are absolutely disgraceful, how you can call a portion ‘large chips’ when there’s about 5 in there I do not know😂😂won’t be eating from there again, avoid

Good quality, hot and freshly cooked fish and chips. Ordered through the Just Eat app twice during our visit to the area and both times food was ready on time.

Ordered large fish and chips, when I got home it wasn't very big very disappointed, I'll go to Linfords in future

Just had Haddock, chips and mushy peas with a pot of tea, very small portion £20.05! Nothing wrong with the food just not enough of it, far too expensive. Had exactly the same in Whitby 4 days ago, much larger just as good and half the price.

I pay £15.40 for large god and chips Waited 30 mins and there gave me 2 small Soggy Haddock I never go back to this palce again people don't spend your money there!!!! what a joke worst chippy lve ever been to in this country

My friend and I popped in to The Boundary this afternoon for a drink and cake. The staff were lovely and helpful and the cakes were gorgeous. We'll worth a visit and looking at what others were eating, the fish and chips are next on our list!!

Riverside setting with outside area aswell as indoor seating in a traditional fish and chip restaurant. Takeaway and restaurant offering a good selection of dishes including non fish dishes. They had a sharing platter for 2 a a special, which we ordered but was very disappointed with portion size at a price of £13. Really only enough for one person! Service was slightly slow despite only two tables in the restaurant. Cod and chips were fresh and tasty. All in all, not too bad at all and would go again, if in the area. Parking area is tight and be careful exiting onto the road.

Ordered 3 fish, one large chips, 2 curry sauce, got home to family with it and was appalled with what I saw, can only describe the fish as an insole covered in batter, rang up and complained and was offered full refund but when I got there they said they didn’t offer me a refund, eventually they refunded the fish ONLY!!! Facebook is FULL of bad reviews, I recommend steering well clear and going to LINFORDS chip shop down the road.
