We’ve been to the The White Horse recently and both times were a bad experience sadly , especially as this pub used to have a really fab reputation for service and food , and we have enjoyed dinners and lunches in the past . About a month ago we visited on a Saturday lunchtime . We ordered a lunch meal each and we waited AGES for the food to come and it wasn’t great . .. all this even though the place was practically empty . We visited yesterday with friends for a breakfast hoping for better but unfortunately it was even worse . Again pretty empty but service was so slow . One friend had to wait ages just for his drink and then the food took ages again . And the other 3 in our party were practically finished their breakfasts by the time mine arrived. The toast arrived 10 minutes after food was served and butter another few mins later when it was really too late . I ordered eggs Benedict and it was close to inedible the bread was so hard it was tough to eat and burnt . And the order had been taken wrong so no bacon with the meal when bacon had been asked for . It was if someone had been set the challenge of doing as much wrong as possible with our meals and service . We won’t be returning .

Extremely poor Service on a quiet evening Food expensive and not good quality Friends were treating us so difficult to complain although we were offered a free drink for delays. It was very quiet and staff were available so really no excuse Overall not the best experience

Lovely Pub/Restaurant, Staff were friendly and attentive, The food was excellent and great quality, fresh veg was in abundance , topped off by home made lemon tart. Overall would highly recommend. Will Definitely go back, Maybe two fish dishes would be a consideration, baked/grilled/pan fried, Just an idea.

It's a nice friendly pub. It's a shame you can't eat there on Sunday evenings. The food was delicious 😋 and the service was friendly

We had need of a special place to hold our family and friends for a 'wake' after the passing of our mother. It proved to be an inspired choice. The food and drinks were great, but as with any memorable establishment, the service the staff gave was exceptional. Well done The White Horse. I would recommend it highly.

A quiet Friday family lunch just enjoyed today. My fish and chips were very good. The tartare sauce was the best I've had. Cherry ice cream made in house was to die for. Service was friendly & efficient and we were made to feel most welcome. Spotless toilets and a nice, fresh decor throughout the dining areas.

We held a wake here today and all I can say is codie delt with it in a most professional manner at all times nothing was to much trouble and the food was fantastic which was much appreciated.

Oh the food it stunning! The staff are really lovely. This is a marvellous place to eat.

Well, where do you start. This was a very mixed experience. The venison was absolutely perfect. Tender and cooked to my liking. The cauliflower burger was a disaster. Far to dry. Soaked in soy sauce making it so salty to be inedible. The waiting staff were excellent. Really could not be faulted. But the wait for food was unacceptable. Especially as the place was half empty. Apparently short staffed.

Breakfast par excellence! Mum and myself went for breakfast today. It was cooked with care (eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine). The poached eggs were just right and beautifully presented. Worth a big mention is the friendly and efficient serving staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you!

Things on the menu not available, what was served was to say the least not great. Never had batter on fish so hard and chips so soggy.

Called in on off chance. Not that busy for a Wed lunch. Very friendly staff. Good service, nice menu, good ales. not bad on price. would go back on another occasion.

2nd visit back within a month and a great menu choice followed up by super great food , walked in Friday eve and got a table.. amazing place

Service was second to none. Greeted on entry and quick to take our food order. The roast dinner was delicious - definitely recommend.

Went for the live music. Very good. Live music in one part, eatery in another.

As soon as I walked in and was greeted oddly I remembered the guy from a previous establishment. How he is front of house is beyond me. Anyway, visited for a Sunday roast. Ordered haddock chowder starter, received veg soup. Appeared they had given us the wrong menu but they didn’t address this, just provided the wrong dish. We didn’t realise they had changed menus until they were returned them to us to order dessert and they were different to the originals ones we were presented with. Roast beef itself was lovely but carrots burnt which overpowered the rest of the food and we weren’t offered sauces or anything so had to chase up. At no point were we asked if everything was ok. I won’t go back. Such a shame as it used to be a lovely pub.

Good local pub, friendly staff, bit on the pricey side, but that's how it is these days, good restaurant.

Where do I start… Come to the establishment and it has became my local I come to as everything is on point from the food the drink to the staff they are all spot on always have been and always correct anything if it goes wrong (rarely) but as a customer you walk away with smile and strong intentions to come back time and time again even the people that come for a drink are all friendly and chatty the Baston comunity is just astonishing. As for the staff you see a fault your in the wrong white horse feel welcomed feel as I’m at home always get the interaction with the staff always with a smile and always there to help in anyway you need. as I used to work for pubs and clubs this is worth the review i don’t normally leave reviews but this pub has something that makes it that makes me want to let the world know. don’t believe me we’ll then try it out yourself. 10000000/10

A busy busy pub in Baston. Hadnt been for years. When we arrived having booked prior we were met by the landlord. No welcome, no smile a very surly 'yes'. I explained we had a booking he went behind the counter sent a waitress who smiled (hurray) and asked how she could help. So a repeat! The landlord then showed us to a benched table a bit crowded sadly next to another. Our drinks arrived perfect! Food ordered but a limited Sun lunch set of mains. Roast beef, a salad and Pollock. Main beef included greens, roast pots, carrots, parsnip, Yorkshire. Other veg were payable extra. Pollock had greens and crushed new pots. I asked if I could have xtra veg instead of new pots and the landlord hesitated saying ' well extra greens then. ' I said some carrots maybe. His reply frankly astounded me. 'The carrots are counted to go with the beef. I will ask chef.' Later he returned to say 'Ive managed to get you carrots but they are roasted'. No problem for me. We had a starter very very tasty food but small portions at £7 to £9. Main beef at £17 my husband said the beef was tender pink and delicious. But Yorks and pots quite dry as had been kept warm. Understandably to a degree. My pollocck was cooked perfectly, flaky and soft, carrots some burning, greens in a bowl not nearly hot enough. We didnt have dessert as we noticed how tiny the portions were. The pub was heaving a tenth anniversary, disco outside etc. Every table bar one taken. The only time the landlord smiled was when we paid our bill. The service from the staff was perfect, attentive and caring. Will we go again? Sadly no. The front of house needs much attention to being welcoming, flexible and showing customer care. We understand costs are raging, attention must be given to costings but not at the expense of a welcome and some flexibility.

The staff are incredibly friendly and polite, the service was quick and professional, and the food was absolutely amazing. I was incredibly hungry, so ordered two starters (cured mackerel and their own corned beef) , and couldn't fault either. The scotch egg my gf had was the best we've ever tasted! We both said, repeatedly, that we'd have to come back again.

Great food at very reasonable prices considering the quality and presentation. Good selection of wines and spirits and well kept beer. Basically everything you would hope to find in a village gastro pub. It's the kind of place that would encourage you to live in Baston!

Great little pub. Great food. Didn't fancy anything on the dessert menu so got offered an alternative which was amazing. The young lady who served us deserves 5 out 5 stars for the polite happy service she provided.

We held my mothers wake at The White Horse …. I was very impressed with the ease of making the arrangements. Danny , the manager, was lovely and catered to my family’s needs with sympathy and grace . He listened to what we wanted and did his best to accommodate us . Cody , the young lady who always seemed to be in the bar was a delight , always had a smile and she really helped with the management of the event . Tables were kept tidy and clean and the whole venue looked comfortable and orderly. Special shout to the chef, who I never met but provided us with a delicious Buffet, pastry was a delight and everyone commented on the lovely food … thank you , you did my mum proud

Huge thank you the all the White Horse staff for a great Boxing Day. Just the two of us and our two dogs went for afternoon Boxing Day platters. We were certainly not disappointed. Full five stars as always.

Service was good, very friendly and helpful waitress. Food was mediocre. Triple cooked chips, definitely not and as for the fish, difficult to describe. Very thin,couldn't get a piece on the fork, just disintegrated in little bits,chewy batter, felt like reheated food. Dessert, sticky toffee pudding delicious, poor presentation. It is a while since our last visit. In the past as I remember it, the food was exceptional and upmarket choices of dishes. Pity, great place but the food let it down badly. Shan't return now.

Amazing place out the hussle bussel

Been here a few times for a drink, but recently tried it out for Sunday lunch and I can say I was impressed! Ordered the roast beef, and the plate was full of great flavour with the potatoes being slightly crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside, the veg were done lovley and you get a nice big Yorkshire pudding. Yum! The only thing I would say is, I just wish we had an extra potatoe or 2 because they were so delicious and I wanted to feel just that bit more full but that's my only criticism (a very small criticism and not a big deal to be honest) After that I was tempted by the homemade ice cream for pudding and I am so glad I had it, the quality of the ice cream was amazing, I would some the nicest ice cream I've ever had out. You could tell it was homemade, the creaminess was divine. I chose vanilla, chocolate and blood orange sorbet. If you happen to go I would HIGHLY reccomend having ice cream. When we did order dessert, it seemed to take a while and then one of the waitresses came over and said it wasn't put through and apologised for the delay, but I don't feel as if it ruined my experience and it hasn't happened before when I have visited. All in all, I was one very happy customer and can't wait to return on another Sunday!

The White Horse is definitely back on form. We had a fabulous meal as good as when the restaurant first relaunched a few years ago. Amazing flavours, beautiful presentation and just delicious.

Atmosphere in dining room is typical rural pub (wonky tables), it is a nice separate area but is open to the pub so if the pub is noisy then your quiet meal won't be so quiet, bear this in mind. Went for dinner and food...

The White Horse hosted our engagement party for around 25 people. Danny was really helpful from the start and gave us many options to where we could have our party (private room or area). Everyone complimented how lovely the private area was and how efficient the staff were. The buffet food was absolutely delicious and to top it off the next day we opened the card from them gifting us a £20 gift card. Such a lovely gesture and can’t wait to come back for a dinner date!! Thank you to all the staff, especially Danny!

Lovely place spoke to a nice lady behind the bar. They place is holding off rushing back to doing food untill they have the right team behind them instead of rushing into it. Hats off to them after the money that's been lost in the sector, the old adage "do it well or not at all" is to be commended. Will try the food in the future. Went to the White Horse today of tapas and it did not disappoint! Having a baby, I asked for a table with plenty of shade and they were more than happy to accommodate. After she fell asleep, we were getting a little chilly and they were more than happy for us to move to a table in the sun. The tapas was brilliant, everything was cooked perfectly, we had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was outstanding.

Only been a couple of times. Food, ambience and service all very good. Will be back when it reopens.
