Real nice pub with a good vibe and people

Great ploughman's lunch sat outside in the sun and enjoyed a pint

Very friendly & helpful staff. Most of the food is made on the premises. We had a cheese mushroom quiche & a lasagne, both meals were excellent value, well presented & delicious. We would certainly go back again, if we were in the area.

When i visited this Lovely Establishment the other week, i was rather Impressed by the Friendly Bar Tender who Greeted with Big Smile and a Warm Welcome. I ordered my Pint Beer to quench my thirst. A Pint of Old Original, then i sat down outsite and did some people watching. Very Comfortable seating and shaded with big Parasols to keep you nice and cool. What a very Pleasant Atmosphere i was thinking in the Hostrical Lincolnshire Town of Stamford. I had a really Good time at the Golden Fleece. Thank you. I Totally Recommend you visit soon. A good old school market town pub with good beers and a hearty a la carte menu or tasty Specials. I had Sausage and Mash for Lunch - excellent.

Disappointing selection of wines but not as disappointing as the staff attitude. World's first living personality donors serving behind the bar. Shame because location is outstanding but service just poor.

We called for a drink on Sunday evening around 7pm. We had passed this place earlier, looked busy and the food reviews were great. The bar was quiet, no problem, we ordered a drink from the rather unfriendly bar man and sat down. He then proceeded to stand at the bar and play videos/ watch something on his phone so loudly that we couldn’t chat. I suppose it made up for the fact there was no background music and no atmosphere. It’s not that the pub was quiet, the barman just didn’t want us there. We took our drinks and finished them outside so he could play with his phone in peace!! Such a shame for a pretty and central pub, sandwiched between two other lovely pubs. I will not return.

Came here for Sunday lunchtime meal. We were given a warm welcome. Hadn't booked. However, we were accommodated very well. Staff very friendly. Food was perfectly cooked and presented. Would recommend highly.

Nice pub but shame about miserable bar staff, denied that the beer was warm , returned it and had to paid again to get another cold one. No apology or anything. Bar staff need to improve her customer service skill.

Just stopped off on the coach to London . Went in here & had breakfast . It was devine £8-75 each . Staff were lovely . Spoke to the owners grandson who was clearing the tables & other members of staff who were all lovely. Had a nice walk into a garden centre stocked shop that i would love to one day have a great walk round as well as other places in Stamford , marks out of 100 definately 100 loved the place xx

Been here a few times. Lovely cosy atmosphere. Always friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced food. 6 of us all really enjoyed our food.

We popped in for food and a drink on Easter Sunday. No booking, but they accommodated us with a warm welcome! Our dog was offered water without asking, which is ideal as he doesn’t talk much. Beer wise, there was a nice selection of real ales. I had Sunchaser ( ironically it had rained nearly non stop). Ellie had Inches cider. Food was served quickly, considering it was cooked fresh. I had Gammon, Egg & chips. The wife had hunters chicken. Both were delicious! Lovely traditional English pub too!

Family meal today. Service was excellent and the food superb. Our Spanish family members loved the pub atmosphere, the traditional food and great coffee. Thank you to the team for looking after us so well.

My wife and myself spent a day in Stamford as we hadn't eaten since early morning when we left Norwich we dropped by the Golden Fleece because of the location and outside seating. Had a couple of pints and some food both were excellent and the staff were very friendly and polite We have eaten in many different places all over Europe and the golden fleece is up there with the best

We called in for a pint. Very quiet on Thursday night, but a great welcome and plenty of laughs.

Waited 45 minutes for food, with rubbery chicken and overdone veg. The outside area is quite nice though.

Fantastic Sunday dinner , The best I've had tbh and loads of beef. First class and be coming back.

Excellent place to eat, been 3 times b4, always had a great meal. Today I had Sunday roast lamb, excellent meal and skimpy with the meat. Food brought out in good time by friendly staff. Highly recommended and will always eat there when in town.

Outside space is lovely and food was spot on. Fish and chips were cooked exactly to my taste so I was very happy!!

Wonderful Sunday lunch here today, just like home cooked and the lamb was fantastic . All the family enjoyed their choices, the beef, chicken and the lamb. All served with a massive Yorkshire pudding and delicious vegetables. Big thanks to Mandy and her team.

I was advised that the roast dinner here was good.. as i review a lot i thought ill read the reviews.. 99%positive. Right off i went..its oldy worldy atmosphere and decour its a proper pub. No uniforms only people.i ordered roast pork and was not disappointed. Loads of meat lots of trimmings cauliflower cheese ,cabbage, carrots ,Wow it tasted amazing .home cooked tasty well seasoned and a feast. Absolutely will be back.. 2 small negatives. 1 the waitress thru my dinner on the table and not a word.. and there wasnt enough crackling.which was so tasty. But the lady at the counter said .you should have asked me and more would have been brought.. overall 9.out of ten for food. Highly recommended.ive eaten a lotof roasts in 58 years. This was good ..

Great outside space, in the sunshine right on a little square watching the world go by. Good selection of beers etc, only sat outside so didn't really see inside, that's for the locals. Friendly polite staff and the food I saw coming out looked lovely.

Distinctly average, nice seats outside but a warm flat pint and an excess amount of off putting ‘warning signs and notices’ throughout. Wouldn’t return, not a welcoming environment or business that deserves return custom

We had a gorgeous roast dinner here. Service was superb. So thoughtful getting us a table inside as it was due to rain Great food and great value

Had chilli con carne, with garlic bread, never had that before and tasted really wonderful.

Went in today for breakfast, it seemed perfect as breakfast served all day and plenty of other options. The food was really lovely, however I would not return. The staff are really rude and acted as though their customers were putting them out by being there. Huffing and puffing about and not friendly at all, didn’t ask how the food was and didn’t say a nice word to anyone felt like we were totally in the way. They also sat doing their stock take/reordering right in the centre of the bar area where people were sitting to eat and shouting to each other about what was missing and what they would need to pop to Aldi/other supermarkets for if the supplier didn’t have it. There was plenty of empty space it seemed odd to do it right where all their customers would be sitting or ordering.

If there is a wait on the food it’s worth the wait the food is fantastic and the staff are very welcoming and friendly thank you again

Had a very nice lunch with my friend sat outside in the sunshine, chatted with some visitors to our beautiful town who were very impressed with thier meal as well.will definitely be returning soon

We originally visited The Golden Fleece for the Everards beer. Since then, we have been going about once a month for lunch and a drink. There is a lovely old wooden bar and a great atmosphere with a very varied clientele. The food is not exactly gourmet but always fresh, piping hot and enjoyable, the Caesar salad is the best I have had anywhere and the chips are brilliant.

Very good for the price. Would go again in the future

Visited Stanford on Sunday 16th April and dropped off at the Golden fleece for Sunday lunch. Good atmosphere if typical English pub, good menu and drink options. We both had lamb Sunday roast which was fresh and piping hot, vegetables in a separate dish to share and mint sauce brought without having to ask for it. Could also have desert for extra £4 which again was fresh and piping hot Staff were busy and clearly worked hard but were still very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend this pub

Good food at a very good price and Very friendly staff

Huge portions, but honestly the worst quality meat I've eaten in a very long time (Liver and Bacon). Sides and gravy are all convenience and not homemade. Wouldn't recommend the place, sorry.

Visited today and can't fault the Sunday lunch for 10 plus the hospitality and friendliness which were unrivalled. Thoroughly recommended. We received a warm welcome, excellent food and exemplary service. Really made my birthday special with friends and family who had flown in from Australia.

Local pub and restaurante. They have tasty soups and pies.

Very enjoyable atmosphere, nice & relaxing.

We popped in here today as table of 7 with no reservation. Despite the pub being very busy the team were quick to move tables around to accommodate us and made us feel incredibly welcome. The menu had loads of choice and was reasonably priced. Food came quickly, was piping hot and absolutely delicious! But what really made our visit was the great atmosphere, a great mix of family’s, lads enjoying a drink and locals singing along to the duke box. The icing on the cake was our 2 dogs were welcome too.

Normally pop in for a pint when in Stamford , a friendly pub , normally busy , good bar service , not eaten here but always a lot of diners so must be good . Worth a visit

Stopped off here for lunch while Christmas shopping, lovely welcoming staff and delicious food, we will come back when over that way again

We visited here for lunch. We hadn’t booked but was quickly seated & our order taken. We opted for the pork Sunday roast & cheekily requested extra crackling. Food was brought through quickly, generous size portions along with a small bowl of extra crackling!!! Food was hot & delicious especially the cauliflower cheese. A dessert of apple crumble completed our lovely lunch. Staff were attentive & friendly as were the locals/regulars that were in there. Think this place is a hidden gem

Lovely pub selling proper pub food. Great homemade pies and the usual Gammon and Currys etc. Really good choice of drinks. Excellent prices as well. Will defo return when in this part of the country again.

We had a simple lunch, paninis and cold lagers, sitting outside in the sun. There is a lovely sun trap at the front of the pub. It also looked good inside, although football was on, and toilets were clean. Service was friendly. Tables were cleared quickly. Only grumble was the paninis weren’t very hot and the cheese hadn’t melted. Otherwise, all good.

Great place to sit outside. Brunch was good. Coffee was served unprofessionally from a machine, luke warm and half a cup. Bar person was slow and vague at was she was supposed to be doing.

When our food arrived, it looked like quite small portions. But when we finished, it was filling! The price was average compared to others.

Lovely beer in a lovely setting on a beautiful summer's day. Glad to see these guys doing so well after such a disgraceful destruction of our pubs with mindless and futile lockdowns. Well done guys, we'll always call in when passing.

Stopped in Stamford for lunch and went to the Golden Fleece for a drink and something to eat. Wanted to sit outside as it was a great day and the staff soon found us a table. Drinks soon arrived followed by a lovely meal. Another large party arrived after us and again the staff did everything they could to make their stay enjoyable. We can thoroughly recommend this place both for value and hospitality Thank you Golden Fleece

After being charged £8.50 for 1 portion of chips and 3 dry veg sausage ( tasted like they were leftovers from the breakfast menu) I would not recommend. The chips were 2.50 on the menu meaning I paid £6 for 3 sausages. I wasn't given or even offered any veg or beans. Don't go unless you are prepared to stick rigidly to the menu. I left dissatisfied, cross & called numerous friends who now also won't go there again. I only wish I had taken a photo to post

What an excellent bar. Staff excellent too. Well worth a visit, especially to break up a London journey. The place looks worthy of a might out too, plenty of other bars.

Ordered Sunday roast which came in generous portions and was delicious. Friendly staff and overall very baby friendly - only thing missing was a baby changing area.
