This place does the best fish and chips for miles. Great fish lovely batter . Good chips and good portions. Service was good too. Recommended

The only fish and chips I had while visiting England. I believe they have set the bar extremely high!! It's gonna be difficult for me to find a better meal than this

Ordered the food from the menu. Opted for a child’s meal because it was a main, drink and dessert. Also had an adult meal. Seated just after noon. Waited ages for the food. Asked if the child’s order come sooner as I was happy to wait. Instead, the adult food came first. When the child’s food arrived, the chips were hot and the chicken nuggets were hotter than a McDonald’s apple pie. Once the food had been eaten, we waited nearly 20 minutes for the dirty plates to be removed from our small table. There were plenty of empty tables and not may diners so the staff wasn’t exactly rushed off their feet. I even went in to say we had finished. They were then taken away. We then waited patiently for the long awaited dessert. Other diners were on theirs so again I went in, to ask where the child’s desert was. I was told there was no dessert as they had ran out. They didn’t tell me when ordering and clearly didn’t think we needed to know. The order would have been different if indeed we even stayed. When the bill arrived I had been charged full price even though they hadn’t given everything we ordered. I asked for a reduction on the bill so they took two pounds off. The deserts cost more than two pound. There was a lot of chuntering because I wasn’t prepared to pay for what I didn’t get, the attitude of the table waitress and what I assumed was the manager, was lacking somewhat in customer service and fairness. There’s no way I’ll be returning or recommending it to anyone.

What a lovely meal. Haddock cooked to perfection. Not a thing to grumble about. We are sorry we took 4 years to get here. We will be back.

Overall our experience here was great, tragically no milkshake (oh well!) but the food was exquisite and went over my expectations! The curry sauce was delicious and the coleslaw was divine, the chips were good but I feel a few more would’ve been good, but no complaints, they were just that tasty!! The fish was brilliant and so well cooked, the drinks were however highly priced considering they were just canned, which I feel is our only complaint. I’d rather pay that for something from the tap. It was quick, clean and comfortable and we throughly enjoyed our visit and will most definitely be back soon!

What a super place this is. Friendly staff great food with a varied menu and reasonable prices, the staff were well turned out and knowledgeable and polite. Highly recommend this cosy little place where you can even look out into the meadows, Shall 100% return

Lovely lunch after feeding the ducks with my nephews. Fast, hot and tasty! Sat out on the patio area and it was lovely and clean. Reasonably priced too & great portions!

Impossible to improve as it’s perfect, please, please don’t change a thing. I’ve been in customer service most of my life and seldom have I experienced the service level of this place. My pie chips and curry was totally awesome. I will return here as often as I’m in Stamford

Great fish and chips - best for a long while Battery was light and crisp 3 sizes of cod to choose from I had the small which was just about right Seemed very busy so took a while… they did acknowledge and apologised for the wait Table service but if you get a takeaway there are tables to sit at if you want or take your chips to the meadows Scored a 4 as the tea was a bit weak… get some better bags and the Tom sauce was on the cusp of not being very nice Given those things I would still recommend it… great fish and chips seem hard to find so go to riverside and you won’t be disappointed

In Stamford from Nottingham to meet a friend for a picnic near the river. British weather put a stop to that when it started raining, so decided to take cover and have chips here instead. The staff are all so lovely and friendly and couldnt be more welcoming. We were served by a young girl ( long dark hair) who was amazing. The chips are probably then nicest Ive ever had. Hot fluffy and huge portions. The view of the river and meadows is lovely so the setting is really lovely. Highly recommend a visit for great food, and fantastic staff who are all friendly and welcoming.

If I could give zero stars to service I would. My partner two kids and I went in on a Tuesday lunchtime. Ordered inside (which took forever by a seriously unhappy young man.) I ordered 4 meals in takeaway boxes A) so if there was leftovers from my 2 and 3 year old I could take it with me and b) to save on the washing up. Finally I got our meals and just as we were all settled (enjoying the tasty chips) we were told by the same unhappy young man that we could not dine outside with our takeaway boxes and we were in fact to sit on the benches 5m from the venue. What a joke. Apparently there were signs. Tiny signs I’m sure, and not ones that I looked for. There were about 3 spare tables outside and zero ques. Evreyone in the restaurant literally said to me, that’s ridiculous and they wouldn’t have moved. I should have asked for 4 plates quite honestly but at that point I just went ahead with the ridiculous rules. Won’t return, rude staff ridiculous rules, nice chips.

In that circumstance, when there wasn’t a Que waiting, with 3/4 spare tables outside, tucked in a corner with a pram, halfway through my meal you want to ask us to leave, make 3 other diners get up out their seats so we could get out. You could have asked if we wanted plates instead, or told us hey guys next time “these are our rules.” In that moment you massively embarrassed me, disturbed the kids, shocked other diners, for literally what? Common sense has prevailed. Also upon reading the reviews the rude staff and being made to get up in not a busy restaurant to go sit on a scummy bench where my toddler fell through, this isn’t the first time! Just think politeness, thoughtfulness and kindness go a long way.

Nice fish and chips, worth the wait

Simply the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. So fresh and great portions. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is served up quickly. The batter on the fish is consistently perfect... not too overdone, not too soft. The Goldie Locks of Fish and Chip Restaurants. Please believe me when I say you won't be disappointed.

Stamford is a town blessed with a plethora of choices for a bite to eat. We fancied fish & chips and saw this place by the river. The food is good and they have a sit down restaurant area which is nice. If you're in the area and looking for fish & chips this is definitely worth a shout.

The best fish and chips I've tried in Stamford. Don't bother with other things because pies and chicken aren't perfect, but battered fish is absolutely amazing. Crispy chips too. Marginally better than the other fish and chips in Stamford. The service is humble and simple. But it looks like the establishment needs a coat of paint here and there.

We were looking for easy food and Google saved us on a rainy Monday night and food was great. Amazing fish (chunky) and great chips. Our favourite cocktail bar, the sliding door is just around the corner, as is the weatherspoons if you prefer. Staff very friendly and helpful. Recommend

Took my parents here for dinner. All the food was really well cooked, and especially enjoyed the crispy batter when in so many other places it's greasy.

Sat outside the chippy in a designated outside eating area ....there was absolutely nobody out there when some girl employee part time bouncer insisted we move as we had bought takeaway food ...they take your money and move you on....I wouldn't have minded if it was busy and people needed the seats but once again they moved us on when it was empty.....should of stood my ground and let them call the police Very very petty staff ....would not eat there again 0/10

it’s really hard to find a decent fish and chip shop nowadays especially not by a seaside town however this fish bar really did exceed my expectations lovely staff, ability to eat in and the best chippy chips I’ve had in a while we all had different meals and everyone left very satisfied, the price is good too thank you :)

The Riverside just has to be the best fish n chips in the area! The staff are so friendly and the fish cooked fresh … We had a large cod which was enourmous, and l do mean enourmous … We are now firm regulars lm pleased to say,.

Just had 2 chicken and mushroom pies and chips for takeaway. The pies were microwaved and when I got home 5 minutes away they were cold. The chips were the worst I've had for a long time. Have had the same from here before and been very good. Won't be going back anytime soon.

*Updated review* I called in yesterday evening while out walking my little jackapoo and was greeted so much better than my last visit, great customer service and my chips were nice and hot and I enjoyed them while sat on the meadows🍟😁 I called in the other day just for a regular chips to takeaway and as soon as I opened the door a women was really abrupt and rude to me saying you can't bring your dog in here! I've visited lots of different chip shops all over especially the lake district with my little jackapoo and have never been spoken too so rudely before. Luckily there was another lady that came out to take my payment and bring me my chips as I was just about to just walk away!

Was very busy when we arrived but they were very accommodating and found us a lovely table .can't fault their service and fish and chips were spot on!! A great visit 😊

Since I entered I felt a dense smell of bad-tasting fried food, not the normal one, but a very penetrating and bad-tasting one. We ordered 3 fish and chips dishes and the truth is that no one finished eating. The shrimp salad was good inside everything.

Avoid immediately! Took my daughter to have a nice lunch there today first the tables were not in the right positions I could not get through to sit down it took me while to go around and put my toddler on the chair because all the chairs and tables where closed to each other and there wan’t much space to walk through in between and two of the waiters stood there not helping or make space for us! When I finished my meal I turned around one waiters sat behind me on the phone I asked her can I have the bill please, she disrespectfully and impolitely said “ I am on break”!!! So I asked the other waiters to bring her manager and complain about an awful customer service I have received by one of her waiters all she said sorry we were trying to come and serve you but we thought you were still having your meal!!! Absolutely disgusting and appalling customer service, first there was no waiters there to ask except the one waiters behind me and she was so rude said that she is on her break! I hat kind of restaurant is that?!! I said to the manager that it is my first time coming here and experience this awful and rude customer service, this restaurant the waiters are chavs and its for chavs people, avoid immediately, and it was pricey too, the price of the fish and chips is exactly the price of London restaurants and this is the lever of customer service I have received from them. Disgusting place.

First of all, if you want fish and chips freshly cooked for you, then you've found the right place. My large haddock was the size of a whale. Outside in the open air is nice. Service today was lacking. Shown table then ignored. Disappointed. Be prepared to wait for your fish, but that bits worth it. Would I come back, well this is my third visit, so yes.

The fish and chips is equal to any. The chips were good and fish excellent. Served by well presented pleasant staff.

Lovely fish & chips would be happy going again

Visited for my partners birthday for lunch. Food was absolutely delicious and prices good. Only thing was price of a can of soft drink was a bit expensive. Would definitely go back here again.

Good service, ambiance, and menu but sub-par quality of food. All the fried food seemed dry and bland. The kicker was a banana shake that tasted like the artificial flavors in a Laffy Taffy and which had the consistency of milk (the anti-thick shake). It's a cute place in a charming town. I hope management can improve things.

What a great restaurant! It was fantastic, I ordered a large haddock and chips that was made to perfection. The staff were lovely and the reason for writing this review is because I thought the staff did absolutely fantastic when facing an awful customer who was completely out of order when demanding half price because the food wasn't good enough when he had eaten all of it! The staff were great with dealing with him even when he was advising customers walking in to not go there, which if I was them would have really made my blood boil, but they stayed calm and dealt with the situation fantastically. Thankyou riverside for a great lunch and hospitality

Disappointed I didn't get to try the large cod (my fault I got to the shop just before close) That ls where the Disappointment ends. The food. We had. Was fantastic. Battered sausage chips. And. Curry sauce. My partner in crime. Had Pie and Chip! the potion size where really really Good and the staff. Are very friendly will definitely be going back 10 out of 10

The quality of the fish is excellent, cooked in beef dripping. Service was second to none and definitely will be returning.

Very good fish and chips but found it very dirty when sitting at the table food all down the front of the table. I had to use a sterilising wipe to clean and wipers to clean absolutely disgusting.

Me and my partner were looking forward to trying this chip shop out as its situated well and looks nice from outside ...we sat in and i had regular chips ,large batterd sausage and curry sauce, my partner had regular haddock regular chips and mushy peas , we had a can of dandelion and burdock each and it came to £28 !!!! No such thing as a cheap chippy meal anymore 😏 , the curry sauce was nice though 👌 shame about the prices .

Best chips I’ve ever had and huge fish! Reasonably priced and really friendly. Fish batter was a little bit on the soggy side as it had been sat in the warmer for a bit but I could have asked for a fresh one like I normally do. All round very good!

Great fish & chips but sitting outside this week was a view of the industrial bins, looking out over the car park towards the river. Also, the girl who served us could not manage a smile; not for us but for all the customers we could see. Service makes a big impact on a meal - Riverside could make some small improvements to make our visit a much better experience. We are locals.

Dropped in here as a meeting had overrun and the service and quality of the fish and chips was brilliant.

We have been so disappointed twice; take away and eating in tonight. Every time the fish has had bones in and the fish was watery. I would not recommend it.

Very good quality food (my fish was probably the best I have ever had) and the value was excellent. Highly recommend visiting if you are visiting Stamford and walking by the river.

We had a delicious lunch today. 5 of us had different dishes and each one was delicious and very good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. We’d definitely go back.

Today, I had lunch at the fish bar for the first time. The fish bar is close to main attractions (shops, Main church, antique shops) and is located near the river, thus offering an ideal setting for a walk after a meal. It is possible to seat inside and outside - an extra point considering the cold winter weather. I had small cod, fish cake and chips. Food was very tasty and well cooked. Staff was welcoming and friendly. I will visit again!

Service with a snarl! Will one of the staff here ever actually break the mould and smile? Think of your profit margins on your paltry portions. That might cheer you all up!

Friday night takeaway fish and chips. Generous portion size, tasty, well-drained fish with crispy batter (even when we got it home), chips were good cut and perfectly cooked (none of this soggy chip that goes limp and turns to mush)! Partner's mushy peas were spot on with consistency. We'll be back!

Myself and my friend went in this weekend just gone. We like it in these as the staff are always very friendly and polite. The earing areas are always clean and covd19 procedures are in place. Only downside we both felt was the prices of the food especially the fish and chips. We didn't go for that this time because of it. What we did have was lovely and well cooked sausage and chips. We appreciate everyone has to make a living and things are hard for us all. With prices rising etc, but the food prices are a little high. Otherwise its well worth a visit especially the milkshake which was LUSH.

Staff seam to decide who can pay by card and who cant. Both us and someone In from tried to pay by card they could for less than a fiver yet we couldn't for less than a fiver. Bad attitude wont be back period...
