Lovely little place with inside and outside tables, next to shop in quiet old arcade opposite the Opera House. Superior food with a local flourish, and Buxton Pudding Emporium shop next door run by same people. Not fast food, quality comes with care and attention which takes time, so don't rush, enjoy the flavours and the quiet location.

This small remote Inn is quite a rarity in this area, by being still open. The interior is quite compact, with limited space. Further seating available outside for finer weather. If eating advance booking is advisable. Menu quite varied and generally good value. The Sunday roast dinner is really good value. Pies microwaved with soggy pastry on one's sampled. Good choice of beers on offer, with three on hand pumps when visited. Well worth a visit, handy for walkers on main valley path between Hartington and 'The Dragon's Back' of Parkhouse and Chrome Hill.

Visited here on a Saturday lunchtime. I wasn’t expecting it to be so busy, as it’s never been a great pub, so I didn’t bother booking a table in advance. They had a 30% off food. This is why we went. The food was nice granted, but not worth the hour we waited for it. I didn’t bother complaining before hand, as I just assumed they were incompetent or short staffed and couldn’t hack the busy pub. I won’t be bothering again. I rated it 3 stars, as the food was nice.

Called for coffee and a snack as it looked to be a warm and welcoming cafe. It was both warm and welcoming and The Buxton Pudding and homemade vanilla custard (cold, as it should be we were told) were delicious. The coffee was a real disappointment, thin and tasteless and, sorry, unlikely to return on the basis of that alone.
