We had room 7 for a night, it’s a little apartment, which is lovely and perfectly positioned. For those looking for en-suite facilities the loo is the other end of the apartment. More lighting is required at the back (before the gate) The bedroom is a lovely size and plenty blankets etc for extra warmth just felt a bigger bed would be nice as the room can take it. Guessing it’s small / standard double.

We stayed overnight in a beautiful old room looking over the pavillion gardens, the room was big, as was the bed & the en-suite was large too, all clean and well appointed. Right across the road from the opera house. The breakfast in the tea room was excellent (full English), we'll be back!

Had afternoon tea there one day, and light supper the next day. Light supper was 5 stars. I had a smoked salmon sandwich which came with vegetable crisps and salad at a very reasonable £9.95. Fresh and delicious. My partner had a quiche which came with salad, which he also said was great. I'd only give the afternoon tea 3.5 stars. It looked lovely on the plate. The sandwiches were lovely - fresh and well filled. Great choice of hot drinks which you could have an unlimited supply of. The scones were a disappointment. One was cooked through, but the other was undercooked, doughy and inedible. Some cakes were great (Victoria sandwich, meringue, carrot cake) and the fresh fruit dotted around was a nice touch, but the other cakes weren't that great. There was really too much (we had most of the cake the next day). It would have been better value and quality to order a sandwich and a slice of cake.

We had a lovely one night stay. We stayed in the Pavillion room, which is at the front of the building. We had glorious views of the park & the theatre. The room was large, with a huge bed with the softest duvet ever. The bathroom was also very nice with lovely toiletries provided. The location is superb, minutes away from the town centre shops & right opposite the theatre, with restaurants & pubs nearby too. We had breakfast in the tearoom, we had to wait over 20 mins as it was being freshly cooked. A full English was £15 with a pot of tea. If was very nice - it arrived with a black pudding & a flat bread, (?) neither of which I ate. And there were no mushrooms which we missed. All in all a lovely night away.

We enjoyed a superb stay in fantastic, spotlessly clean, quiet accommodation, with lovely views of nearby landmarks. Perfect for a visit to the opera house. The location is great, central to everything of note in Buxton and lots of stylish restaurants and bars nearby. Breakfast in the tearoom is extra to the room rate, but was great value and quality. Shout out to the polite, confident and helpful staff that checked us in, carried our case up the stairs, managed our breakfast and checked us out. This place is wonderfully managed and we can’t wait to return.

We called into No.6 The Square Tearooms as something of a last minute, spontaneous, afternoon tea, treat during holiday time and found it to be an elegant, charming tearooms with very welcoming, attentive staff. Our afternoon tea was of a high standard with a good selection of cakes and a small choice of sandwiches; there was copious amounts of tea with staff checking that all was well and offering to top up the teapot if needs be. All in all a lovely visit and we would have no hesitation is highly recommending

We decided to go to No 6 The Square for lunch, it is a lovely little cafe, the staff were very friendly and polite. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing, I had homity pie, which I presume had been in the microwave to long, it was over cooked, my husband had a bacon, brie and cranberry ciabatta which was very difficult to eat (again over cooked), we didn’t like to complain at the time, the cafe was very busy, unfortunately we wont t be going back again, it was very expensive for a very poor meal

We visited yesterday, 22nd March to meet up with friends, who had booked in advance. All the staff were surly, bordering on sharp, and disinterested, resulting in our having to make multiple requests. The tearooms themselves were cramped beyond belief, resulting in customers having to disturb your meal and flow of conversation to get in and out. The table itself was unfit for a party of 4 people, forcing us to remove saucers from cups to facilitate the plates. The food itself was only mediocre, and the coffee very weak and cool. Needless to say, we shall not be returning.

Attended for an afternoon scone and tea on 20.02.2024 with my wife and 94 year old mother. As we went to enter a very surly waitress approached us and said that there were no tables available giving absolutely no indication of how long we would need to wait. She then shut the interior door leaving us in the small area between the outside and interior door. After a few minutes we were invited into the downstairs seating area and taken to a free table. The area was busy with a large party who were already eating along with a couple sitting together by the window. After a few minutes waiting the couple gained the attention of the same waitress and asked it it would be possible to have some menus. We were seemingly ignored at this point. A few minutes later a lady along with her granddaughter came and sat at a table beside ours. She was immediately approached by the same waitress and a request for a menu was very quickly responded to. After a couple of minutes the lady and granddaughter were revisited by the very same waitress who took their food orders completely ignoring both ourselves and the couple who had entered before us. After a few more minutes the couple expressed their disatisfaction at the awful service and left the premises without making any order. At no point did the aforementioned waitress offer us a menu and we eventually asked one of her colleagues if we could actually order something. The lady with her granddaughter at this point realised that we had been waiting patiently with no success and offered us her apologies for what had happened. We eventually placed an order for a scone and tea which was then served quickly and was very tasty. My wife then went to the counter to pay and again for whatever reason was initially ignored by the same waitress and only attended to when she made a point that she was stood waiting to pay and wished to leave However the whole experience was soured by the attitude of the one member of staff who in my humble opinion needed a basic lesson in attitude. All other members of staff who engaged with us were polite and cheerful.

Booked the afternoon tea as a treat on my wife's birthday. Considering the price, £50 for two people sharing, it was pretty disappointing. Sandwhiches okay, weak tea, very dark crumbly scone and a few small cakes which were a bit Mr Kipling really. Very overpriced. I can't describe the premises or decor, because we never saw them! Having asked, when booking afternoon tea, if they were dog friendly, I was told, yes, as long as we sat upstairs. Fair enough, I thought, but as it turned out, on arrival, we were led upstairs to what was basically a narrow rear corridor at the rear, leading nowhere, with two tables. Felt like a pariah, totally unable to enjoy the ambience of the main rooms, which we didn't even see. Frankly, I wish we hadn't bothered.

The cafe was very popular, we recommend booking. We arrived at 11am and got what was probably the last available table (There appeared to be a wedding function upstairs, this may have reduced table availability for walk-ins) We had drinks and cakes, of which there was a wide choice. Easy menu, not easy to get a table if you have not booked. They reserve the tables and they are empty while customers get sent away because "we are full" don't know how this is sensible in this day and age. Not he friendliest of places if your not local if you ask for anything extra they act like they are to busy to accommodate. Having said this on our 3rd attempt to eat here we did and the food was ok. The ambience and cafe were cold...worth noting as winter is around the corner......

The environment is very pleasant, though perhaps over-crowded at times. We had tea and coffee which were up to scratch. Our main gripe was the high-end prices, which outpaced even the more expensive alternatives in the town. I would have opted for a hot chocolate, but declined when I discovered that they use UHT 'squirty' cream. Really, from such an establishment and at over £4 per cup, one would expect better, especially whene real cream dispensers are cheap and readily available.

Afternoon tea should be delicate, a treat. The sandwiches were the best part here, with good quality ham and lots of smoked salmon. But the scones were dry and the cakes were either bought in (meringue) or very basic (fridge cake/tiffin and caramel slice) or dry again (carrot cake). We left most of the cakes and the waitress didn't ask us why, which led us to believe that's normal for their customers. There are better way to spend £25 per head.

There was an extensive choice of proper leaf teas and everything on the counter and in the chiller looked fabulous. This seemed like a lovely place but was completely let down by the awful scone they served, not even jam and cream could save it as it was so dry it was inedible. I booked this place as a treat for my mum for a belated Mothers Day surprise. I booked 2 afternoon teas which were just average. Choice of three sandwiches, ham, smoked salmon and cream cheese. Approx three finger sandwiches each. One fruit scone and a selection of cakes with refillable tea or coffee. £25 each which I thought was over priced as other surrounding places offered the same for between £18-22. My mum recommended this cafe to me and my friend. The lady on the phone when I rang up was really miserable but we managed to book a table last minute so we were really happy with that. All staff in the cafe were also really unhappy and the atmosphere felt really miserable unfortunately because of this. We had to keep asking for things, like a drink, some cake etc, no one came over to see if we were ok or if we wanted anything else, and we didn’t want to keep getting up to go to the till for things due to COVID restrictions. The food was very tasty but it was quite pricey and not a particularly nice experience to make it worth that price. I wouldn’t rush back unfortunately

No-one came to my table to welcome or serve me so after 5 minutes I went to the till only to be told to sit down and someone would come. They did eventually. When the cream tea came, the scone had been warmed by microwave so it was quite hot inside, had gone floppy and hard to cut in half or pick up. The cream and jam were good. The tea was advertised as "English Breakfast" but one sip revealed a horrible taste - more like a "Supermarket economy brand" . The paper teabag inside the pot looked suspiciously like a low cost option, with no branding or label/tab. I'm sorry, but considering the "tea rooms" title, there is no excuse for this - decent tea bags cost just a few pence more than cheapo ones wholesale !

We nipped in for a quick lunch whilst in the area and just had a panini/sandwich. We waited quite some time (about 45mins from ordering - we had waited about 15mins to order so was about an hour after entering that we got food) but it was a relatively busy Saturday lunchtime, we were in no rush, so it wasn’t too much of an issue waiting. The food however after this wait was a bit disappointing - the panini was average and a bit bland, however the sandwich my husband ordered was literally 2 slices of bread cut into 4 triangles with a small side salad and barely any filling. The price clearly reflects the central location (opposite the pavilion) and not the food. Wouldn’t return. Perhaps the afternoon tea options are better but wouldn’t recommend ordering a sandwich here.

We arrived for lunch at 12, were seated promptly and ordered food by 12:15. Why/how it too 45 minutes to prepare 2 soups and sandwiches is beyond me. Waitresses could see we were getting impatient but just carried on, without so much as a comment on the delay. When food arrived at 1 with a mumbled apology our day was already ruined. Nice cafe in good spot. Food is fresh. Give yourselves a few hours though, as the service is very, very, very, very slow.

I used to visit the cafe quite regularly and it was one of my favourites, but the last few visits haven't been good. Overcooked food one visit, eggs were requested runny and what arrived was the hardest boiled eggs I have ever seen, for all 3 of us. The next visit we received absolutely appalling service from one of ladies, so much so that we left as soon as possible. (everyone else there is so lovely, so it's a shame this woman cannot follow)Finally, the last visit, I went for an afternoon tea and was so looking forward to their various scrumptious homemade cakes from the displays. But no. We were served what looked like, and tasted like, cheap shop bought cupcakes, mini pavlovas with a couple of berries on and mediocre shortbread

We dropped in here whilst returning from shopping and popping into the Opera House. A pleasant place with friendly staff. Feeling somewhat under the weather due to illness, we ordered tea and scones for two - cream and jam. We got the tea and scones, but butter and jam, plus the admittedly fresh scones were suffering from some odd affliction - the moment you cut into them, they fell apart! Hungry, thirsty and both running temperatures, we waded through and just couldn't be bothered to complain. At least the tea was delicious and strong. If the tea room reads this, try scones using flour with at least a bit of gluten in it and get the order right.

We just caught the end of breakfast. I had the bacon and scrambled eggs with granary toast. I was a little confused as I thought it was a sandwich but then appeared as separate elements! Nevertheless, the bacon was clearly locally sourced, the scrambled egg was delicious and the lovely lady who served us offered us hot water as extra to our tea for two, which I thought was a really special touch. Would absolutely recommend as the cakes looked delicious too, was just too full to try them!

We arrived about half 3 and waited by the “please wait to be seated” sign to be approached by a lady asking if we were being served! Clearly not since we were waiting to be seated . She gave us the last remaining table and came to take our order before we’d even sat down. there wasn’t a huge choice of cakes. I ordered a scone and it was the last one they had and I have to say I was very disappointed! About two cm thick and more like a rock cake, dry and couldn’t get the knife through it. when I did try to cut through it it crumbled like biscuit. The carrot cake was also dry. So all in all a disappointment really. Shame because the premises are nice it’s in a good location and has a lot of character . As a tourist we wouldn’t go back anyway but it’s a shame the food wasn’t nicer .

This place is just lovely. Food and cakes are beautiful and the tearoom its self is immaculately presented and within beautiful surroundings. This place is busy so would recommend booking just to be on the safe side but never the less so worth a visit if you are visiting Buxton or surrounding areas. Staff are lovely and really good prices! Keep up the good work!

I am a regular visitor and local and must say my wonderful first impression of this beautiful tea room have been damaged by further visits. The staff are a bit cold, a couple of times have been made to feel I was an inconvenience waiting for a table! The food can be superb but as homemade have had a few dud meals. I have seen many people return coffees as being too cold/weak so think team could do with further training.

we received vouchers for this lovely looking place and drove to buxton for almost an hour. the service was awful; the waitress took the order after 40 minutes of waiting and after further 20 we received our drinks and food. two sandwiches (avocado and chicken, grilled goats cheese + tom) were lovely but the daily special (steak and mushroom) was disguisting, meat was chewy and we left it. shame as this is beautiful place, just not managed right.

Called in for afternoon tea with my wife for afternoon tea. We'd chosen here because the reviews looked good. We were seated at a table for two, the wasn't overly busy and we place an order for Afternoon tea for two £28, after about 5 minutes or so our pot of tea arrived, another 30 minutes later and the food had still not arrived (tea was consumed by now). I decided we'd waited too long than was to be reasonably expected and approached the manageress to say i'd pay for the tea put we weren't prepared to wait any longer and were going to leave, she refused payment for the pot of tea, but said it wasn't her fault as they were busy ? (empty tables) and she wasn't in the kitchen ? Then one of the young waitress's started to argue back in front of other customers ! (amazing). I think some training is needed in communication and customer service skills to the serving staff. Not a great experience, also another customers sat outside also complained about the delayed service that they'd received.

We were looking for a place for a late lunch or afternoon tea in Buxton and found No.6 in the lovely setting near the Opera House. My friend has to have gluten-free food and is often met with a long explanation of what they can and can't do, why they can't do it, what substitutes are available (usually not very satisfactory!). None of that at the No.6!! The young lady said simply 'Yes!' to our enquiry about gluten-free food and took our order for the afternoon tea. It arrived very soon, and was an excellent selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones. My friend's gluten-free version was exactly the same as mine, no half-hearted substitutes or omissions.

I have frequented this tearooms for a few years. It’s very quaint and has some marvellous foods available. The tea is always nice. This past visit I ordered the carrot cake it was a little dry so the tea was a must. Not sure if it was the end of he week/day but I prefer a much more moist cake. The wasps were particularly pesky today inside and outside. This is not a reflection of the restaurant for the outside seats as this should be expected at this time of the year however perhaps a better pest filter for the inside users would be a benefit to their visitors. Would definitely be returning with family and friends. I’ll

The tearoom is in a beautiful building close to the Pavilion in Buxton, so right on the main drag for visitors. We visited mid-morning and were surprised that they operate table service, so you need to look at the cakes in the till area before you sit down.

We travelled out by train from Manchester to Buxton to enjoy the Town, meet friends for lunch and Opera in the evening. Arriving early and walking up into the centre we came across No 6 opposite the Opera house and stopped for morning coffee. The building and decor is everything that you would imagine a Georgian style cafe to be. Friendly, efficient staff, seating both inside and out plus good coffee. The cake array was very impressive, we were sitting not far from the counter and there were constant Ooh’s and Aah’s as new customers arrived. A very good start to our day.

The rooms are lovely, the location is brilliant and everything was exactly what we were after. The only disappointment was the breakfast experience. The fact that the breakfast was not a sit down but a take away, the only hot option was a reheated prepacked sausage or bacon cob. In effect the breakfast is a take out cafe that you get 1 item of food and a drink. Therefore we went elsewhere for breakfast.

We've been to Pico Lounge several times now after moving to Glossop and the service is always excellent. They staff are super friendly and attentive and are always so lovely with our Dog. She just loves going, especially as there is a whole section of treats just for Dogs! The food for humans is also excellent too! Great variety, in fact when we took my sister-in-law who is a celiac, she was blown away by the size of the gluten-free menu. Can't fault the place!
