The owners were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious (both the dinner and the breakfast). Perfect for a pre-hike fuelling stop 💪🏼 The small twin room was also very comfortable and clean. I’d love to come back and I highly recommend the Old Hall Hotel!

What a great experience. I took my partner away for the night for her 30th birthday and by chance booked us a room at the Old Hall. I can see why the reviews rate the place so highly as the food & service was fantastic, a big thank you to Joe specifically who went the extra mile to make us feel so welcome. The room was also beautiful, and it looked like it was a newly renovated bathroom. Highly recommended and we will be back!

Just been for lunch in the restaurant. I'd messaged ahead to ask about gluten free children's meals for my coeliac daughter, but didn't hear back. There are no children's gluten free meals. Staff kindly adapted a jacket potato for her, but we were still charged full adults price, £12 for this. There was no understanding or wiggle room here. Everything else was lovely, but I probably won't be back.

I did write a big review explaining everything but then my phone died😩Long story short..we ordered 6 meals one after each other, only 4 came out and was waiting for 2 meals our friends had eaten there and ours still hadn't arrived.we complained and wanted a refund..... As from what I can see from other reviews he thinks he's thinks he's the bees knees and doesn't like to apologize to paying customers . But all I will say avoid at all costs!! VERY RUDE manager he clearly doesn't like criticism. If only we looked at the reviews .we would of chosen another place to eat.the balded headed chap(manger/owner) whatever he is..you need to go back to business school and brush up on your etiquette.. absolutely appalling behavior!!

Absolutely lovely pub for the end of a long walk! As the sign outside said, "dogs and muddy boots welcome" Friendly, helpful service in spite of how busy it was, excellent food with a fairly sizeable menu to choose from, and a great selection of beers on tap. Huge choice of whiskeys, which is always a bonus!

What an achievement to make such a hash of 4 completely different dishes. Each of them served luke warm, with lumpy gravy and mushy overcooked vegetables. Service was both slow and disinterested, apart from wanting us payment. I've read previous reviews and note the owners pathetic replies to negative comments. He thinks he is so amusing and intelligent, yet comes across as an absolute wally. Clearly his 'favourite negative reviewer' HAS really got to him.

Potential racist customer We started by drinking our wine outside, but as it got colder, we went inside to rest. Not long after, an older man at the next table began turning his head to glance at us repeatedly. Finally, he arrogantly and sarcastically asked, "Do you speak English? Why don’t you order any drinks?" We explained that we had already finished our drinks outside and asked if there was a problem. He replied, "No problem." It’s worth noting that another table nearby with a customer and their dog also didn’t have any drinks, yet he didn’t approach them with the same attitude. Instead, he chose to sneak glances at us and make snide remarks, as if to disgust us on purpose. People say the essence of this country lies in its countryside, but it seems the countryside is also home to old-fashioned bigots who have likely never encountered foreigners and reek of arrogance. What a “gentleman’s” country, indeed.

I had the misfortune to order fish and chips here last night and it was absolutely awful, the fish was slimy and a bit 'snotty' inside, the batter was as tough as old boots, the chips were obviously frozen and not well cooked they were very anaemic looking and soggy and tasteless inside, the peas had a weird 'old fat' taste and had been heated in the microwave as some had dried up, plus the awful (home made?) 'tartar' sauce seemed to be just coarsely chopped onion in a diluted mayonnaise, then to make it even worse they served it on top of a serviette/doyley on the plate which after a very few minutes got soggy and began to disintegrate and mix in with my food - why?. I did eat most of it because I was ravenous but regretted it when I got home! I complained to 2 people, one of whom was wearing glasses he said he would 'tell the chef' but no one even had the decency to come to discuss it with me , let alone offer any apology. The meal cost £20, I could have got similar in Wetherspoons for about half that and it would have been much nicer, so beware the fish and chips at the old hall Hope.

Visited this place after a walk from Edale. Found a table while my friend went to the bar and after a few minutes was asked if I had a booking. I said no and was told the table was reserved. I pointed out to the staff member that the table had no reservation notice, to which he went to the bar and came back with a a reserved sign and slammed it down on the table in front of me. Unbelievably rude and unprofessional. We left and went for a drink over the road. We spent over £20 on two single malts in this place the day before as a treat which I now regret. We won't be going back. Just read read Rick's response. This tells you everything you need to know, what great customer service. Very similar angry and unapologetic responses to other customers that were not happy. Try putting your hands up to your failings Rick. The time was 4 pm by the way so sounds like you and your staff have probably upset someine else? The pub across the road was great by the way and interesting you have chosen to belittle them in your response. Oh dear, quite shambolic.

After a hike across the Peak District, we were hoping to find a great roast dinner locally but somewhere new to our friends; unfortunately, the place we recommended and opted for this time was just average. We all felt the service was average; staff were lacking interest in general and when we were asking questions about the specials, they seemed unbothered. We all agreed it was overpriced for what we got too, which was a shame. One tiny carrot, 2 small roast potatoes, cold leeks and cabbage and a watery gravy. The beef was quite nice and the mash was well seasoned. I have been here before for drinks and snacks which we previously enjoyed but on this occasion, we left disappointed.

I feel obliged to comment given recent seemingly negative reviews. We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and ate there for breakfast and evening meals Our room was the Ladybower and it was absolutely lovely. Breakfast was excellent in the annex and the staff were friendly, helpful and chatty. For evening meal, we had the pie, belly pork and chicken supreme between us and all very good. There was a fire going all day too. Given some recent comments about cleanliness, I have to say I saw the exact opposite and no issues at all. The staff work really hard and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic Experience all round - I would like to say that the "Old Hall" which is a local pub to my dads house is a very welcoming place and the landlord Rick and his team are second to none. My family visit on many occasions to eat and drink and I personally like to go and have a drink and the occasional meal when I am visiting family. The landlord Rick is one of the most friendliest people I have met and always welcomes me and I feel at home the moment I walk into the place. I and a friend had booked a twin en-suite room for one night. We were given room 1. The room was small, the bed comfortable but the bathroom was dire. The thick plastic shower curtain was in need of a good steam/hot wash to clean it and remove the smell. Dinner was delicious - we had chosen chicken supreme from the specials list and it came on hot plates. Breakfast the next day was dire with there only being a choice of two boxed cereals, no yoghurt, fruit or muesli. The breakfast room was so cluttered with paraphernalia that the TV ‘Hotel Inspector’ would have had a field day. I would have a beer and dinner again but not an overnight stay. Housekeeping take note!

This review is of the restaurant, not the hotel. We stopped for a lunch...rather disappointed. The pork and stuffing 'sandwich of the day' was particularly poor. The pieces of pork didn't have any fat on them which resulted in dry and tasteless meat. When will cooks realise that it's the fat on pork, beef and lamb that adds the moisture and taste. And the toasted baguette that the pork and stuffing were in was also dry and dull. The chips and salad that accompanied the sandwich were quite pleasant, and the waitress was efficient and polite. There are several other places to have lunch in the area and we wished we had chosen another venue.

I can't tell you about the rooms as I only went in to eat. Me and my husband had a few hours without the children so we was walking to another local food place but saw this first and thought we would sit in and eat here instead. I ordered pan seared lamb, mustard mash and veg, my husband ordered the burger and chips. Non to write home about. My husbands meal was ok and burger was small and small fries, they charged £16.50 for this and my meal wasn't worth the £20 price tag. The mustard was only on top of the mash (on the surface) but when underneath this the mash was very bland had to season with pepper to give taste. I had 2 pieces of lamb which was the size of my fork vertically and horazontally each. The lamb sat on top of the mash and there was more mash than meat. The veg and gravy was really nice. Luckily we had a starter to share or garlic bread as our meals didn't fill us up. I have to say despite the food not worth the price tag, the staff were very friendly, even though they asked us about our meal as we were paying, so couldn't really stop the transaction half way if not nearly fully paid for. For my meal, she said she will pass feedback to the chef regarding the mash. I think this place could really make it if meals met the price tag, I would love to come again in the future to re try this place as I like the atmosphere here and the friendly staff 😊

I can not say anything about the rooms, as we only had lunch in the bar. The pub/hotel has a small cafe attached to it, as it is a part of the business, the food and hygiene in the café is very good. The Old Hall Hotel is very tired and dirty, the staff, fed up, and the food is not worth the £18 a head. The pie was salty, the crust thick and dry, the filling lacking in flavour. The peas had been boiled within an inch of existence, and the chips had been cooked and reheated making them look like the fingers from an Egyptian mummy. Our plates were stone cold, and the food soon had a chill to it. The staff, all but one young lady, were very unprofessional and obviously did not have any interest in the job or being their. We received no greeting at all or asked if we would like a table, we were just ignored. There was no one at front of house to greet you. Although there were more staff than guests, everything seemed to be disorganised and muddled. We only eat some of the food as we were starving, otherwise, we would simply have walked out.

Great stay at the Old Hall for the second time. Twin room small but has everything you need. Really comfy beds and pillows so had a wonderful night's sleep after a gig at the Devil's arse in Castleton which is about a 40 minute walk away. We got back to have a drink outside which has plenty of seating. There was a good choice of real ales which we enjoyed trying a couple of. The local clientele who were sitting outside made us feel really welcome and happily chatted away with us, then Rick the landlord came over to chat along with his gorgeous rescue dog Pickle, he was very interested in our experience of the Hotel and his personality along with his staff made our stay even more special. Shower in the morning was hot and good pressure with soaps provided. Lovely huge towels to wrap around any size Cafetiere with ground coffee is an absolute plus, with plenty of instant coffees, hot chocolate and Yorkshire tea if that's your thing. We decided to try Granny May's Tea Room, part of the Hotel for breakfast as they served a smaller option than what was available elsewhere. Local sausage was really tasty, good quality bacon. Everything cooked perfectly and delicious, we could not fault it. All in all, we would like to thank Rick and all his staff for their contribution to an amazing weekend, we will be back.

Nice looking bar. Was looking forward to a beer after a long walk, initially delighted to see Old Peculier on draft but sadly after buying a round all our pints were sour - bar staff refused to change them. I've been drinking real ale for 40+ years and Old Peculier is my favourite beer so I do know what I'm talking about. Very disappointed ☹️. Edit below. I emailed "Rick" (two weeks ago, no reply yet) who replied to this review to confirm all the details and gave him more information. And yes, it was that place. Great country pub where the locals make you feel very welcome. Spacious room My only dislike was the electric shower but it was usable.

Local to Laneside campsite, so can't star the rooms. Good food and ales.

Just popped in for a pint by the fire. Was quiet due to the kitchen being closed due to refurbishment.

Had a lovely catch-up with a friend we all had a lovely meal Lasagne and steak and ale pie all well presented and all was yummy... and rum and raisin ice cream, which was lovely too. The service was great, and the atmosphere was very good with back ground music 🙂🙂🙂 Three very happy customers

What a wonderful tea room. Sofia has been an absolute pleasure to deal with when arranging our baby shower in the private function room. If you are wanting to make a celebration extra special, I can't recommend this establishment enough.
