We are a local family and often visit the Peels. The food is generally good quality and professionally cooked; although the desserts are a total gamble - either a fresh steaming seemingly homemade pudding or something plucked from the Iceland freezers and plonked on a plate. Tonight, as a group of 5 we did have some lovely fresh food but we were disappointed in the 2 £17 steaks - they were the last of the day and gristly throughout, really not what you expect from the top end of the menu. We mentioned it to the serving staff who were apologetic and asked the manager to come and see us, he didn't bother, just kept propping up his overpriced bar. As we paid the bill, we mentioned it again to the manager and he couldn't have been ruder or less interested - £120 bill and he couldn't spare us 15 seconds or any kind of sympathetic gesture. It's so unfair because overall the youngsters and the kitchen staff gave us friendly, attentive service and, for the most part, lovely food. It's a real shame that their efforts were overshadowed by a miserable old man.

It’s hard to find somewhere you feel comfortable eating during this pandemic, we stumbled upon this place as the pub we had chosen was closed. The one way system and shields between tables worked really well. A chatty cheerful young lady behind the bar was helpful and brought our drinks to the table. My fish was really nice and my husbands pie equally so and request changes were met without a quibble. Thanks for a lovely lunch

After hearing excellent reviews about the peels, me and my partner thought we would take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme and give here a try, what a mistake. The food was cold and I found a hair in one of the meals. For a meal that should have been £12.95, you would expect decent presentation and portion size and at least for it to be warm. When asking for the bill, we politely raised the issue with the waitress, only to get dirty look. The manager came to the table and was very rude and came very close, which made us feel very uncomfortable due to the current situation. No social distancing there. He then explained that they had served over 250 people on that day, but I fail to see what this has to do with our food being cold. I understand that these things happen from time to time, however it could have been dealt with in a nicer way that it was.

Landlord was rude, asked for the bill and he blankly ignored and seemed to only sit at the bar watching paint dry for the majority of the evening. Heard him shouting at other staff, who had been the only pleasant factor of our otherwise terrible evening out. Very disappointed, was looking forward to our last discounted meal of the month. Clear to see no social distancing being practiced, with our table being right next to another and was the same throughout the pub. We booked in last minute at the pub on our way home from matlock looking for Sunday dinner. The staff were friendly and got us booked in without any issues. The weather was awful and so it was nice to get in somewhere that was very warm. We were sat at a 4 seater table at the back of the pub on our own which was perfect as we were out of the way of any noise from other dinners. However above where we were sat was a glass roof which appeared to be leaking (not surprising given the weather). We didn't kick up a fuss as we had 4 chairs to choose from so simply moved up towards the wall out of the way. We ordered lamb and turkey Sunday roasts however recieved beef and turkey Sunday roasts. Again this wasn't an issue as I wasn't overly picky with which meat I was having. The food was okay, the meat, boiled potato's and veg were cooked nicely however the roast potato's and yorkshire pudding were a bit of a let down. The price was reasonable for what you got however we know we could have made better ourselves which was disappointing and made our decision on the rating. I don't think it helps the chefs the amount of different items on the menu however. There was a small laminated leaflet on the table followed by 2 chalk boards... The pricing on the menu was also different to what we was charged, maybe something else to look at. All in all we had a nice meal, the staff were friendly and welcoming however the few issues did let the place down for us.

We are a couple in our 60s/70s on holiday visiting the area and went to the pub for a quiet meal. We went to the bar and were kindly shown to a table in the dining room by a window. The room was warm as it was a lovely day so I asked a passing ‘staff member’ if the window opened. He asked me to move so that he could open the window but had to fetch the window lock as one of the catches was locked. He opened the window ‘wide’ open and left. It was too cool as it was breezy. I got up and put the window on the first catch. We had chicken and leek pie which I found to be pieces of chicken in a sauce. In my piece of pie I had about 3-4 pieces of chicken! I didn’t complain but when asked by staff I mentioned it. On leaving we went to pay the bill at the bar and whilst I was paying, the staff member who had opened the window, came and took over and asked me if the meal had been ok? I mentioned again that my piece of pie hadn’t had much chicken in it. He retorted saying I was being predantic and had been all evening! I asked him why he said that and he said because I’d wanted the window open!! He told me he was the manager. All the other staff were courteous and polite. I would not recommend this pub or the food and would not return, especially as the manager is so rude to his customers.

We celebrated our grandsons birthday with a family lunch. The food and service was terrific. Some of our party chose from the specials board and others from the general menu all of the food was excellent and the portions very generous. The minced beef and onion pie got a special mention as did the curry of the day. The sweets again were very generous with a special mention for the treacle sponge and custard,.

I've visited on many occasions and they've never disappointed. I particularly recommended the Cheese & OnionPie. People who assume that British Food is rubbish will have never dined at a place like this which is British Food at its best.

Nice pub, good food and beer choice. Maybe the menu is too long? With maybe too many choices. Friendly staff

It is a gorgeous venue but alterations have lost some of the pubs character . The menu is very dissapointing and leaves you struggling for choice. The battered mushrooms are OK the lambs liver elven though I asked for rare was overcooked . Resting on the laurels of past glories is not good enough

Phil and the team at the Peels Arms made us feel so welcome. The room we had was beautiful and very comfortable. The food in the bar was lovely as was the full English breakfast. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone needing accommodation in that area. Desperately trying to think of excuses for another visit.

one of the worst b&b’s I’ve stayed in. we were in the bed & breakfast for a weekend. the breakfast was nice enough, but the rooms were absolutely filthy. towels and sheets were stained and covered in hair, crockery was dirty & the bathroom floor was covered in hair. there’s no WiFi, even though they listed it on their booking. and the staff were a little too nonchalant and very unwilling to help. on top of this, the pub neglects to mention they put on live music on a Saturday night until 12am which you can hear directly through the walls. and there’s a rooster that lives next door that woke us up at 5am on both mornings.

After a hike across the Peak District, we were hoping to find a great roast dinner locally but somewhere new to our friends; unfortunately, the place we recommended and opted for this time was just average. We all felt the service was average; staff were lacking interest in general and when we were asking questions about the specials, they seemed unbothered. We all agreed it was overpriced for what we got too, which was a shame. One tiny carrot, 2 small roast potatoes, cold leeks and cabbage and a watery gravy. The beef was quite nice and the mash was well seasoned. I have been here before for drinks and snacks which we previously enjoyed but on this occasion, we left disappointed.

Excellent pub with great character, got some of the ale the had on tap, which was off. Brought this to the attention of the landlord and it was no problem he was off to change the barrel and pull through two good pints, exactly what you want to happen in that situation. The chips we got were also excellent. An ideal pub to go to on the way from Manchester to the Peak District.

We had room 7 for a night, it’s a little apartment, which is lovely and perfectly positioned. For those looking for en-suite facilities the loo is the other end of the apartment. More lighting is required at the back (before the gate) The bedroom is a lovely size and plenty blankets etc for extra warmth just felt a bigger bed would be nice as the room can take it. Guessing it’s small / standard double.
