Had a really nice lunch today, landlord was friendly and helpful as was the lady behind the bar. Will definitely go back again. Lovely steak pudding and the gravy is amazing, 😊

Welcoming, traditional pub. Very friendly & helpful staff who added to our enjoyment. The food was good - Sunday roast plus vegan & vegetarian options and the desserts were excellent.Additionally we really enjoyed the wine.

The landlord of this pub is quite a character. We love coming here and brought some friends and our dogs for a Saturday afternoon drink and food. We were all made to feel so welcome. Can't recommend this place enough

Entering this pub is such a time warp as it is the quintessential traditional pub - it's great. Hidden in the back streets of Tintwhistle, it is an unassuming building, slightly shabby, but certainly worth a visit. When walking into this pub it is clear you are visiting an something very different; the ambience was nice & relaxed, the staff were lovely & friendly, but it is the layout and interior furniture that takes you back in time. It is gorgeous to see such eccentricity in a time of bland corporate chains. This is clearly an independent pub that has apparently stood for 500 years or more (so we were told). The food was good - several vegan options were available, which is great. Can't wait to visit again.

Cracking pub meal after 4 mile walk

Mick was a total delight - he is an exceptional landlord who went above and beyond to make our visit outstanding (we had got caught in the rain, super wet, he made space by the fire and kept it roaring, allowing us to dry out). A patron (Billy long legs) gave us local hiking tips which ensured that our remaining stay in the area was a delight. Thank you Mick, Billy and Tintwistle - a highlight of our trip.

Super place for a quiet drink and superb lunch location. Landlord and his lovely landlady are excellent hosts. I'd recommend visiting here for a drink and some lunch too 😁👍

Great Pub fantastic food best food in glossop, for a family of 22 the service was first class and the staff can’t do enough to make you feel welcome, extremely enjoyable evening, excellent all round highly recommend tasting the menu.

This is a great pub with great owners. Mick has made us (as newbies to Tintwistle) very welcome and Jane's cooking is brilliant. This place has everything you'd want from your local pub - log fires, good chat, great food and drink and good music (unless the wrong person takes control 😉). It's also used by local groups like a yoga group, walkers and traditional musicians, not at the same time but I'd pay to see that. Long live places like this. I can only imagine that the one person to post a 1 star review was having a bad life at the time. If you like sterile, soulless corporate watering holes, go elsewhere. Keep up the great work.

Great little pub, we'd contacted a few weeks in advance and they were responsive and very helpful, on the day they accommodated our group of 15 impeccably, came in for lunch and a few drinks, were treated very well by all the staff, 100% recommend if you're in the area.

What a find we live in Liverpool and son and partner live in chapletown,we meet up for lunch on Easter Monday a fantastic pub great selection of beers, the landlord is very friendly and had great humour the food is excellent and all homemade along with the ice cream delish all round experience brilliant the open fires 🔥 just what is needed on a cold and wet day will definitely be back.Thanks to the landlord and his wife the chef can't praise you both high enough cheers 🥂

Never been to the bulls Head before me and 3 friends went to watch man city and real Madrid the whole experience was brilliant. The landlord put us some food on which consisted of around 10 tappas dishes the food was brilliant. I'd like to say a big thanks to all the staff , which made us feel welcome. I will definitely be going to watch the football again. A big thank you 😊

Great to revisit this fabulous pub and catch up with the landlord and landlady. The best cheese and onion pie ever tasted, the most wonderful ales and the warmest of welcomes. A real treat !

What an absolute gem of a place. A traditional pub, with the most amazing food. The people running the place could not be more welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. I would give 10 stars if I could. I even had an extra homemade pie to take home which they happily made for me. If you are anywhere near visit this fabulous pub. I can’t recommend it enough I will be back

I wish we lived next door. We live almost 1 hour and 30 mins away, but we will be back. You can't improve on homemade fresh food....I hope there is no other chef allowed in the kitchen .....the current chef cooks to perfection.....this is the best and most deserved review I have ever left

Brilliant traditional pub. We had the broccoli and stilton soup, delicious, served with warm bread and butter. They certainly don't scrimp on quality ingredients. The steak pudding, chips and peas was also fantastic and the gravy served with it was the best I've had. Came here a year ago and it's still as fantastic

This is the perfect country pub. The landlord has a great personality and the food was absolutely fantastic. The steak and ale pie is one of the best I've ever had and the desserts were superb. Highly recommended and we we will definitely visit again.

Another and well deserved 5 star review! The host with such a cracking attitude /personality. We apologise for not getting their names, but they were so busy. As a family, we are from Cheshire, near Liverpool, Nottingham, Doncaster and Leeds - we like to arrange get togethers and thus was perfect. The food was all home cooked, and absolutely delicious (the lamb madras was one of the best curries I have tasted!). We can't wait to return! Thanks again, Amy and family!

Proper ENGLISH old fashioned pub, as they were, as they should be, long may it never change. Proper landlord big Mick, runs a real proper pub, modernists stay away, traditionalists welcome. Walkers always welcome with your dogs as well.

Our first visit tonight after many positive recommendations. Lovely local pub with a great atmosphere. Stopped in after a long walk and had a lovely pint of wainwright's. Wife and dog drove up to join me and we had a another couple of excellent pints and bowl of excellent chips. Very friendly staff that went the extra mile and the place itself was really nice inside, friendly warm atmosphere. Would absolutely go here again

A good traditional pub with a reasonable menu and friendly service. On sunny days you can sit outside and enjoy great views over the valley. The only downside was a small range of beers (a result of insufficient demand according to the publican).

This place is a little gem. I called a few weeks ago to book a Sunday lunch for a group of four, my wife is celiac and I spoke to the landlord on the phone and he was so friendly and helpful, he said his wife cooks everything from scratch as knows everything that goes into the food which was very reassuring. We arrived for our lunch and this quirky friendly local pub did not disappoint, we were welcomed with a warm friendly atmosphere, all the staff were great especially the landlord whom was full of friendly banter and was very funny. The food was amazing, there was a lot of it but not a crumb was left due to how tasty it was. I would go back in a heartbeat, thank you.

Lovely pub and great atmosphere. We dropped in as we were camping locally and they were booked up for food, but the landlord and chef agreed to look after us and fit us in for some food and even a dessert. Food was too notch pub grub, and decent beers.

Wow...had the last steak and ale pie. It was absolutely delicious. As described on the menu, the short crust pastry is really thin. Definitely homemade as was the cheese and onion pie. Everything was really well made, well presented, red hot. Very friendly staff. Thanks

Came here on both days we were in glossop! Landlord was very welcoming and accommodating. Food was high quality. Would definitely recommend if you wanted to stop in for a pint or sit in all day eating and drinking.

Lovely little spot off the beaten track - so well worth knowing about. This was our second visit to this place for food! The food is simply good pub grub with friendly service, in some old quaint surroundings. We will definitely visit again.

Great local beers and lovely food.

We visited this pub whilst out walking with our dogs, it was well worth the extra uphill distance to get to it. Such a warm friendly welcome from the lovely barmaid, followed equally by the barman and the locals, who even gave our dogs some treats in the great beer garden, the beer was spot on as was the fantastic pie and chips.

The owners were brilliant and made us feel very welcome. My husband said it was the best Peroni he had ever had, and he's had a lot! We ate the chilli and steak pie, both were really good. Definitely recommend.

Faultless. Brilliant music curated by an obvious fan of bands, great decor and that genuine home cooked food. I came north in search of a steak pudding and here I found it. Partnered with its peas, chips and gravy, it was chock full of quality steak. What a great pub!

Local, independent pub with a charasmatic landlord and friendly staff. OH had a tasty beef Sunday roast with fluffy Yorkshire puds and I had a steak and ale pie that looked nothing special but definitely hit the spot. Nice ale too, but only one cask ale on tap - a sad sign of the times these days unfortunately.

Brilliant pub. Proper, old country pub, with friendly atmosphere and service, and with food that is a cut above. I had one of the best steak and ale pies I've tasted, all home made down to the pastry, packed full of tasty, tender steak. Served with really good gravy too, not instant. The beef curry, halloumi burger, chips and peas were also ace. As was the beer. Log burner and pub dogs added to the atmosphere. Will be visiting again.

Great pub and excellent bull fest

My son booked us in to this place for a birthday meal on Sunday. The guy (possibly the owner) seated us at our table and gave us 2 menu's between the 6 of us (not ideal) He approached us about 10 mins later stating that he was going to wait before taking our food order as his wife was very busy in the kitchen, not ideal but we were'nt in any hurry. I then asked if we could order some drinks while we waited to which he replied ' yes, you just order from the bar, you're not a cripple are you??' he obviously thought this remark was hilarious as he was laughing about it but I was absolutely astounded by his comment as were the rest of my family. It made us all very uncomfortable. We promtly got up and left and went somewhere else to eat. I can't believe that some one in the service industry would speak to a customer in that manner. Should be zero stars and if this guy is an employee he should be dismissed for talking to people that way. Absolutely disgraceful.

Met friends for lunch last Saturday (13/8/22). Can’t fault the place. Staff were very accommodating and some good banter as well. Food was very nice. Mutton Madras full of flavour. Proper suet puddings and great burgers👍👍👍 Good job the bulls head crew

We parked in the car park, did a 2 hour walk with the dog, then returned to the pub where we had booked a table for food. It is a great old fashioned pub where we were greeted with friendly staff and service, honest homemade...

This is one of the nicest pubs I've ever been to. We stopped here for a bite to eat on the way over the Pennines. We were greeted very warmly, had some lovely home cooked food and enjoyed some lovely views from the outdoor beer garden. The pub itself is very charming, full of character and history. I can't recommend it enough and I want to say thankyou to the landlord and staff who made us feel very welcome. I hope we'll visit again soon

The food is shockingly good here. Staff is very nice and the music is good.
