Incredible Crispy Confit Duck this afternoon. Service was great, and we found a table big enough for 4 adults and a small child. Drinks reasonably priced (Guinness, Red Wine, Lemonade and Cola). Bright and airy pub showing the football and some interesting vintage fruit machines. Back to the duck. Best food I've eaten in a pub serving food below £20 a dish. I thanked the chef at the time but I'd like to extend that thanks to this review too. The accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked and the forest of the fruits sauce was perfect. I barely spoke a word before finishing. Everyone else seemed happy enough but I was too infatuated with the duck to care. Nobody seemed to complain on the way home. Next time we're in Buxton, we'll be back. Please put on the duck!

We arrived at the pub late as we’re not local, in fact we’re southerners, and the staff were so lovely from the minute we arrived. They’d stopped serving food but suggested the place next door who would deliver to the pub. When our food arrived, they went out of their way to still serve us sauces etc. and let us taste their own food that they’d ordered.. northern hospitality at its finest!!!! Would highly recommend. Great atmosphere, great selection of drinks!! Thank you Milton’s tap ☺️

I am not the type of person to leave reviews but i felt a strong need to do so with this establishment. First of all and importantly, friendly staff who love their jobs whether in the bar or in the kitchen. You can see and hear the sense of pride they have in what they do whether that's serving customers or being great cooks. A Lovely country pub. The food was beautifully presented and I enjoyed it very much. I was impressed how clean the place was as that means a lot to me when dining out. I live near Hebden Bridge Calderdale and was visiting my family who have just moved to Buxton. Came across this pub and glad we did. Dogs welcome also. Thank you to the all the staff for a lovely welcoming day X

We were looking for somewhere to eat and sat outside. My Dad went inside, ordered two plates of fish and chips and two pints. The total was £37.40. This seems expensive, and like other reviews, we were made aware that there was around a 30 minute wait. On a poster outside, it appears that customers are always told there is at least a 30 minute wait. 30 minutes passed, sitting outside, drinks almost finished and still no food. My dad went inside to ask and we were told the food is being done now. We waited until 13:30 which was 1 hour and 10 minutes until we asked for a refund... We were offered free drinks whilst we wait but refused and received a food refund £27.00. We would understand if there was a busy food service at the time but there wasn't. I am disappointed and will not return to this venue again.

Worst pint of old peculiar I have had in my life, wish I had not bothered, won't be in again. On top of being stood waiting, then offered about Half a pint, it clearly needed topping up, which was done when I waited.

I came in with my family whilst on a day trip to Buxton. I ordered the pea and ham soup which was advertised as homemade that day. We waited a long time for our food. When it came it was very thin and tasted very odd. I persevered but I couldn't honestly eat it, it tasted that bad and after about 5 mouthfuls I couldn't continue. I'm not sure what it tasted of but it certainly did not taste of pea and ham soup. I took it to bar and whilst I was there the chef came to the bar. I explained that I couldn't eat it and invited him to taste it. He did, and agreed it wasn't nice. I asked how it had been made and he said he didn't know because the head chef had made it and the head chef wasn't in that day. He apologised and said he'd get me something else. By that time my family had nearly finished their meals so I asked for ham sandwich which came a few minutes later. If I'm honest, it was pretty basic, literally ham on 2 slices of white bread. Nothing else at all. I ate it and we left. I was quite unwell when I got home and can only assume it's from the soup as none of the others have been poorly. I don't know if it had been left out but it certainly tasted like it had gone off and they obviously hadn't tasted it based on what the chef said so goodness knows how old it was. I contacted the pub over a week ago to advise them I'd been unwell and to ask how it had been made. They replied saying they'd look into it. I heard nothing so I messaged again but they've still not replied even though I can see it's been read. We paid over £40 in total so it's very disappointing.

Great atmosphere and friendly hosts/bar staff who are always warm welcoming and knowledgeable about local area and would also give good tips on what to drink with certain meals etc, I go quite often as am made to feel welcome and always leave feeling happy and glad to know it’s there. Also interior is full of interesting antique infused artefacts if days gone by with unique signs on the walls with advertising on products that are no longer with us but we’re around back in the 80s etc. with a unique Victorian coal / log fire in front seating area and karaoke is well worth the time on Thursdays . I feel it’s a great place to go to when passing or on short stays in the area. Simply the best landlord and landlady I have ever got to know - ‘spike and ness. I can highly recommend their pie or their cask ales on tap.

Went for a visit to the town centre and stumbled across this pub situated in the middle of some shops. Quite small but we found a table and ordered some pub food. It took over 30 mins to arrive which we were warned about but I was still a little surprised as it was quite basic really. Staff behind the bar were very nice. How they coped with a surly young couple on the next table who ordered food who were rude, obnoxious and surly especially when asked how they found their meal showed ... true lesson in smiling when you really want to say something you really want to say. Overall OK but food needs more imagination I feel.
