Royal Oak in High Peak

Friendly pub, but the pint of unicorn was far from the best I've had.

I’ve owned a bar myself and to come here and the barman to ask me to change my glass as he feels I’ve a flat pint. And yes it was a glass problem. Hats off to him. In 30 years I’ve NEVER had a barman offer that. Well done. 5 ⭐️ a really nice pub too

A 2 pint afternoon visit to watch man united get thumped by the bin dippers. Beer was good, terrific atmosphere with 3 ( or 4) big screens, united's performance was woeful.

Very nice pub in a little town, worth a visit

One of a couple remaining main street pubs in New Mills, this retains traditional features inside with fresh decoration and well kept Robinsons real ales. They serve from a large horsehoe bar so even when it is busy you should get served quickly. Several TVs around the bar provide for sports viewing as well.

Clean, comfortable, attentive staff made for a nice and relaxing couple of pints after walking alongside the river. Reasonably proced for the type of pub it is.

Very sad to hear of Paul's passing but still a good pub

I go in for a few pints with my wife to see my daughter (Jasmine) tha works there and the service is always very good and there is quite a busy but pleasant atmosphere making it a good pub for service with a smile and a sociable night out

Bar attendant is racist and rude don't allow brown man to use tiolet.

On this visit it was quite nice. They had all the screens off and I found that I could talk to the group of people I was with and also have some banter with other people. Unfortunately, they do have the screens on and quite loud. Which is great if you want to watch the sports. You just have to select the times you go in. Manchester City VS United is not one of them for me 😂

Went to see a band in there.mint had a great night.

Just popped in for a pint of Unicorn for first time in many years. Very friendly landlord who offered me paper towels as my glasses were soaked in rain. Excellent pint.

Great local with great locals! Made to feel very welcome amongst quite a lively crowd when visiting watch a mate play in his band.

Pleasant Robinson's pub with a selection of their real ales. Paulicarus went for Unicorn...their traditional bitter. The room wraps around the central bar in a large U shape. Nice atmosphere. Paulicarus wanted to play darts but I have drunk too much already.

Love the Oak, great pub to go to for a couple or more if you want

Stopped here during a walk. It is a good pub with friendly staff. Bright inside with TVs showing sport. Pint of Robinsons Unicorn was excellent. Doesn't serve food. Has toliets. Dog friendly. Lots of interesting old pictures of the Mills and workers on the pub walls. Great place to visit for a drink.

I have no idea what it’s like inside , I’m sure it’s very nice but the landlord could do much to boost its kerb appeal by emptying the filthy cig dimp bins screwed to the walls and maybe hosing down the pavement frontage to clean the previous nights “spillages”. I even can see the cig dimps over flowing on google streetmaps .

It's okay, but sadly shuts down early due to lack of patronage

Nice pub in a nice picturesque village

Had my full drink taken away and kicked out for kissing my date. Apparently the landlord has no problem with the ‘gays’, as long as there’s no show of public affection.

Call in New Mills quite a bit and there's not a lot of choice to be honest . This is one of the 2 pubs in or near the Town center. Unfortunately It's Robinsons so beer selection is limited but the staff and the place are great. The other pub appears to be a free house but when I went in it was like the bar scene in the original Star Wars film so not been back.

A lovely pub within walking distance of Torrs Riverside Park. Very welcoming bar staff and locals. Having asked if they served food we were informed that they don't but that we were welcome to go and purchase sandwiches or pies from the local shops and eat them in the pub 🤣. Good selection of drinks. We enjoyed our visit.

A really friendly place. Whilst on holiday this became the place to go. Particularly for the friendly staff (especially Maxine, the reason we went back).

Pestered to buy drinks by the landlord, as a table we had bought a total of 15 pints whilst watching the football. The owner was upset as one of the regulars couldn't come in as the pub was at capacity so began to pester us? Landlord always drunk.

A good choice of beers, friendly staff,sports on TV available, only downside is no food, but bar snacks, come and visit.

Had a walk here after a walk through the village . To be honest really surprised how welcome they made us with a 14 week old puppy. Everyone was really welcoming and more than happy to see the dog and us. Drinks a little expensive but the environment paid for that. Will be happy to return great atmosphere .

A great place for a beer or two

Called in before Harry Potter tea at the Cakery across the road. Very friendly pub . Very spacious nice modern decor friendly locals and bar staff. Had delicious dry bottle of Prosecco in ice bucket just over £15 . Football on big screen . Great pub

Called in here a few weeks ago for a drink,nice little pub bar staff very freindly and helpful. Honestly this is the only decent pub now left in New Mills and will be visiting again. It's nice to have a quiet drink without screaming kids running around and drunken druggy locals clogging up the bar.

We came into town to replenish the larder - managed to park right outside the Royal Oak. Would have been rude not to sample the local ales! However I had to wait until the shopping finished. A fairly large pub, plenty of seating, reasonably clean. beer was good. Unfortunately the lady at the bar had no interest in customers at all - maybe we weren't locals. Somewhat tarnished the atmosphere.

A good pub, good choice of beers and drinks, and really lovely staff. Although it is one of the more expensive pubs in the area.

A new Robinson local All wood and good spirits

After travelling over from Blackpool to pick up a family member who was visting friends in nearby Hayfield, I desperately needed a local pub with Sky Sports willing to let me watch a vitally important League Two play off match which I couldn't attend in person. Luckily for me I stumbled across The Royal Oak. The landlord was very friendly and duly obliged. I had a couple of drinks in this lovely pub, got chatting with a few of the locals, and my team won 3-2 so it was a memorable visit. All in all a lovely pub, friendly staff and locals, would recommend.

Prefect pub, great landlord, great people and to finish off, a lovely little selection of single malts.

Since it's renovation it looks a more modern pub that still attracts both locals and walkers.

Excellent little pub with good atmosphere

The royal oak has been renovated in recent years and it's proved very effective. A really smart modern pub, clean and has a great landlord. Certainly alot more busy these days with a good variety of people of different ages. Not a creepy leary or unwelcoming pub and not one you are likely to find trouble. Brilliant local haunt with good selection of guest ales.

This place is really smart now it has had a make over. I mean I loved it anyway but it now has a new lease of life and seems to be more popular which is great. Really smart tidy pub. Great pint

Following a refurbishment the Royal Oak is a completely different pub now. Clean,bright and airy with an open plan bar instead of the old bar and saloon. A good selection of cask beers and bright beers are available but unfortunately no food other than crisps, nuts etc. It seems far busier now and is more user friendly.

Revisited a few weeks ago WOW what a change. Really nice, a good choice of beers and friendly service ;-)

Visited here with friends to see what all the fuss was about, after investment from the brewery the place is unrecognisable from the pub we visired last year, its now bright and modern with a warm friendly atmosphere

Been here a million times before but I am speechless with the impressive refurb. It has been done to a really high standard and very fitting to suit the customers and location. It's clean and spacious with lots of character. Such a difference. Brilliant see you next weekend.

Came here following the lantern parade. As always it's the best place to get a proper drink!!!!!! It's always full when the street party's are on. It's slightly dated but this adds to the character of the place, it's clean and the staff are friendly. See you at Christmas keep up the good work.

Good ordinary local pub. No food and no nonsense. Very good beer and friendly customers that talk to you. What more can you ask for? Always go here when I visit New Mills where my daughter lives. We had a couple in here and then over the road for a curry. Perfect

Right in the heart of a bustling Peak District town the royal oak is a good place to put up your feet and enjoy a pint.Although the pub has stopped serving meals now it is always busy and serves a great pint of local real ale ( Robinsons)The landlord is friendly and chatty and always on hand during opening hours.It would be an above average pub if meals where once more available but it' still well worth a visit
