Nicely kept ale - from Storm Brewing - and managing just one at a time in line with midweek custom. Cash only bar but nice locals atmosphere, on the back road between New Mills and Hayfield.

Lovely dog friendly pub, stayed in the owners 1 bed converted barn at the rear which was faultless, great for walks from the barn itself or a great base camp if you want to venture further afield. Cant recommend both these establishments enough, and would definitely return.

Food excellent - unfortunately service very very slow. Waited ages for main course (though lovely when it arrived) but after finishing waited another quarter of an hour to order a desert. In the end (after 1 3/4 hours) decided to pay and forego the desert - still hadn't cleared the main course dishes so still not able to order a desert! And the pub wasn't busy. Shame - excellent food spoilt by poor service.

Called in here for a quick bite to eat..... Waited an hour and ten minutes for scampi and a burger. When I enquired where our food was I was told a large party had ordered so there was a delay.... The large party maybe did order but they arrived and ordered after we did! When our food finally did arrive I think I had a whole tin of peas on my plate which had totally bypassed the microwave. OK the meal was cheap.... But it certainly wasn't cheerful. You get what you pay for and we definitely wouldn't return.

On our way back to our 'camp' we took a wrong turning, but fortunately passed the Printers Arms; so stopped. The staff were friendly, as were the local customers when I was enquiring about the ales on offer. The atmosphere was definitely a working mans club, than gastro / dress-up. Had two very nice beers and continues on our travels.

I passed by on a walk, the place was firmly shut and there was no indication anywhere of what the opening times are. As many places don't open at all during the day in the off season, I wasn't going to wait until lunchtime to find out if it would open. A shame they can't run to a notice in the window, it sounds good from other reviews. Seems to be quite common with rural English pubs - tell us when you are open!

Service was great, attentive, professional, slick and nothing was to much trouble. Prices were reasonableand portion wise, better than a lot of its competitors. Oldham isfamous for lots of things....Anne Kirk bride .. Deirdre in CorriePaul Scholes, Alex Carter/ holly oaks- emerdale, the "mumps",Oldham football team .... well now added to the list is,printers arms, good on you, if one has to wait ask yourself "WHY",lookaround .... its busy because people just love it there.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This excellent village pub is in a small High Peak village and on a bus route between New Mills and Birch Vale/Hayfield. Although the bus is infrequent and the last one is about 5pm it is a pleasant walk from either of the locations mentioned. There are a selection of real ales on offer which change frequently and food is served at a very reasonable price. They have a permanent offer of a meal for £5 including a drink of your choice and although the portions are not large it is excellent value for money with a good selection of pub grub home cooked, cottage pie, meat pies, fish and chips, chilli and even curry. Children`s portions are cheaper and also include beverage. The atmosphere is convivial and the added bonus of a large log fire with armchairs and settees surrounding it add greatly to the ambiance. There is a large children`s enclosed play area adjacent built in an adventure playground style although you do have to cross the road to reach it. It does however have seating and tables for parents inside the fence so children may be supervised at play. There are also outside rustic table and benches with a great view across the valley towards the peaks.

Dear oh dear oh dear ..... took friends having recommended it. What a mistake. A once great 'pub with food' has lost it's way chasing a Michelin star .... for whose benefit? Certainly not the punter's. Having visited regularly since it first opened and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere it's now inflexible, a poncy menu choice, deadly dull and too expensive. Requested they drop the mash on the pie dish, not a fan, and replace with chips .... 'I don't think we can do that'. Why not, does it upset the Chef's sensibilities? They didn't. Had to order chips as well. Friend asked for a soft-boiled egg, for some protein, to add to his Salad .... 'I don't think we have any eggs, if it's not on the menu we won't have any in stock'. They didn't have an egg they could soft-boil. A Michelin star chasing restaurant that didn't have an egg on the premises. Made it seem like the dishes were poly-bagged and flown in .... couldn't be adapted. 'Open-kitchen' doesn't work .... we had 90 minutes watching 4 staff looking miserable. Totally inappropriate music for a restaurant .... we weren't in River Isalnd. Dessert .... 'Honey cake, poached plums, crème fraiche sorbet' .... looked like it was out of a box from Waitrose's dessert section. 'Cake' was hard, assumed it would ooze honey .... couldn't finish it, indigestible. Cheapest wine .... £30 Most expensive .... £190 Very, very disappointing. Walk in the area regularly and it's always been a post-walk treat .... taken friends and family many times, Christmas and New Years Day visits too. Never again.
