Travelled from Stockport on a number of occasions to dine here. Can’t fault this place. Food always fresh, hot & excellent value for money. Special week day offers are great and not ‘skimpy’. Atmosphere always good & staff all seem happy to serve you & nothing too much trouble. This is a real ‘dog friendly place’. Fresh water for our dog was even brought to our table without asking for it. Certainly a ‘King ahead’ of other places for service, value & great dining. Would highly recommend.

This pub has always been a staple, located in the heart of Buxton on the market place. This night has only solidified this statement. My friends and I only popped in for a quick catch up and our server, Chloe, made us feel we were in a second home. Chloe highlighted the menu, discussed the local area and the wait for our drinks were almost nonexistent. Being a vegetarian, the burger far exceeded my expectations. No mess was left as Chloe cleared the table post haste. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Buxton. We will certainly be returning soon.

Had a great meal at the King's Head in Buxton with my husband and 3 kids. My Husband and son had fish & chips. I had a steak, chips, onion rings and pepper corn sauce. They were happy at my request to remove the mushrooms and tomatoe. My Daughter's had Southern fried chicken burger. Everyone was happy with their main meals and chocolate brownie. Good service. Friendly staff. The decor is a bit dated. Toilets are the only major let down, graffiti everywhere and tiles missing off the walls.

Called on a not very busy Thursday lunchtime. When attempting to place a food and drink order I was told by the person serving behind the bar that there was at least a 1 hour wait for food as they only had one person working the kitchen. I couldn't wait that long and left. I don't know whether it's normal to have just one member of staff in the kitchen on Thursday lunchtimes but it's obviously not sufficient even when relatively quiet. On the plus side the bar staff were kind enough to advise me of the wait time and didn't just take the order and leave me waiting.

This is a spacious pub right on the market square in Buxton. Inside, social distancing is sensibly enforced. As you enter, there's a large bar to the left, and straight ahead there's plenty of tables set up for dining. We just visited for drinks - the staff were friendly and the beers were good.

We were staying at the Premier Inn, Buxton, their restaurant and bar not yet C19 ready, so no evening meal facilities. We wandered 10 mins down the road into Buxton town, two other pubs still shut on Monday & Tuesday at the moment. We found the Kings Head at the bottom left hand corner of the central square open, some outside seating benches, but British summer weather had turned a tad cool, so inside, we were impressed that whilst there were clear reminders of social distancing, one way traffic etc., as if we need reminding, the only Perspex in sight was a small one in front of the till. Thankfully no Perspex cubicles, but the guys had done a great job on distancing the tables appropriately. There was no chilled Pinot Grigio available, but the Sauvignon chilled was fine, my partner in crime had a pint of Stella. Ordered sensibly at the bar, we carried drinks over to a table which had been cleaned. We ordered a small selection of comfort food - battered mushrooms, chicken, deep fried onion rings (Buxton tapas.?!) which did the job, served quickly, and with a couple of great BBQ and sour cream dips.In this C19 emergence phase, it felt like they got it spot on. More about a lovely customer service, food & drink experience, with plenty reassurance that safety measures were in place without being suffocating. The staff could not have been more helpful, without telling us of. They kindly directed us on what was measures needed to be followed. After such a long time of looking at 4 walls, it was lovely that the pub was well filled with what sounded like locals. A hum of conversation. I don’t think Buxton is by any stretch back to normal, but this little corner pub gave us a great look at a re-opening job well done.

Let's sort the buyers from the spyers, the needy from the greedy, and those who trust me from the ones who don't, because if you can't see value at The Kings Head, you're not there shopping. A pub under pressure on a Saturday lunchtime is always interesting to observe. The staff worked quite hard to keep pace, but the food was somewhat lacklustre. Steak and kidney pudding was fine, but the jug of almost solid gravy wasn't? For the price, we felt the value was there....and this would be a solid choice for a family with kids or young adults on a budget, in particular. First time in we just wanted a light bite, but could only find the full table menu and nearly left but then asked a member of the bar staff if they did sandwiches and they gave us another (different) 'lunch' menu, if your in for lunch, ask for that menu, its cheaper and boy the portion size is right up there with the best in town.Well done chef 9/10 for the club sandwich

We immediately realised it is a chain pub and from experience of this type of establishment the food and staff can be a little average but this was far from the truth, the staff were friendly cheerful and keen to provide a good service, the food was of very good quality, and good value. On the second night I had the Beef Madras and have to say it was on par with anything I have had in an Indian restaurant, the beef was tender and the sauce spicy and full of flavour, all washed down with a couple of very nice pints of Saddle Tank bitter. If you are looking for a non pretentious typical British pub with good food at a good price, you cannot go far wrong here.

Really enjoyed our meal here. The steak in particular is very good value for £8. Good size and quality. Very reasonably priced drinks too. Place seemed busy every time we passed it. Always a good sign.

I liked the Kings head, food was of decent quality and not expensive, they have a range of nice beers on offer. It was busy which I take to be a good sign, a typical british pub no frills but good service and nice staff. Not my wifes choice but then we are all different.

This is a "Chain" Pub, but the staff are great, though somewhat overwhelmed @ times, has a "Specials" board, which is well worth a look, has a very reasonable lunch offer, & a fantastic cocktail menu (which I worked my way through in entirety over the 3 days I was there)

The King's Head is by no means pretentious. It's a pub, it serves food. And it does both very well indeed.I don't think the decor has changed much (if at all) since I first visited in 1992. The same goes for the menu. It's a pretty standard fish-and-chips, pie-and-chips type pub menu, but there are also specials on a blackboard. Nothing too trendy, but what they do they do very well and the food is hot, the service is good and the prices are reasonable. Basically, if you're looking for a no-nonsense pub in which to have a decent meal this ticks all the boxes.

Thats what would have happened if the king had ever frequented this place.Ordered gin and tonic no gin .OK so i"ll have a glass of white wine ...no white wine.At that point i didnt bother looking at the menu but glancing round the pub would guess its ok if you are prepared to put up with whatever theyve got rather than what you went in for

Very good value for money. Good, basic, pub food, no airs and graces but very reasonably priced. A typical English pub!

Ordered desserts, thinking would be in sundae glass, anyway the picture below shows you what type of glass I got!, It was very filling, vanilla & chocolate ice cream, with cream, toffee sauce and pieces of munchies chocolate on top, I would recommend this, I shall be coming here again.

A straightforward pub with a good value classic menu. I had an excellent mixed grill for under £10 and there were some good cask ales. A good value "Wetherspoons" feel about the place and it beats the tourist rip offs nearby.

An unexpected visit to Buxton for the first time meant wasn't sure what the place was like for food - parked in the market place at the top of the town and spotted the pub - its well presented so we decided to give it a good - its a good size inside and tho busy you weren't cramped at all - the food is typical pub grub but the choice is more than in most places and it was quickly prepared once ordered, portions are on the generous size and very good value - would recommend

Took pot luck and was pleasantly surprised by this gem of a pub. Friendly staff and the owner made us feel uniquely important. He was enthusiastic in tempting our taste buds with his poetic descriptions of his menu and then proudly produced the best kebabs that I have ever tasted. Definitely worth a visit

I attended Fosters after driving past and seeing plants outside. The young gentleman who served me was lovely and really went out of his way to help me. However 2 older women that work here were rude, obnoxious and I was made to feel very uncomfortable. I even tried to make conversation when paying but I was just ignored. Not how you expect to be treated this day in age

Food was lovely but despite booking five days previously we were put in an empty room at the back of the pub next to the kitchen and toilets. Constant stream of people going past our table to and from the bathrooms and staff going in and put of the kitchen I do not agree that my review was "mean spirited" I have eaten here several times and really enjoyed my visits and food. You have said the room we were sat in was full before and during our visit. Obviously I can't comment about before but when we arrived ours was the only table with a reserved sign on it and although the room did fill up it was people who were only drinking or presumably had not made a reservation. My impression was that this room was for late/non bookings and drinks which the reason I was disappointed. My complaint was not about your pub, which is lovely, but the room at the back of the pub which lacked atmosphere, and didn't even feel like we were in The Sun Inn.

Waited over an hour for food, when it eventually arrived it was over cooked and tasteless. Not a friendly atmosphere for a Country Pub.

Stopped here for one night before doing a 30 mile walk. Decided to head to Mam Tor for sunset... amazing fish and chips pre walk and made it back for the most amazing sticky toffee pudding to warm me up!

Banging classic village banter, and thumping 90s dance music, good ale and serves later than all other pubs in Whaley Bridge, exactly what a man needs after a busy shift. The bar maid is hot to trot too 🤪😎
