Food and service good but the dining room wasn't heated properly so we lunched shivering in our coats. Waitress tried to remedy by lighting log burner but failed utterly to get it going.

We went in today for the first time, originally for one drink after a spontaneous walk. We ended up spending all afternoon in there and having our tea ( which was absolutely banging!) Such a friendly pub, nice atmosphere, the friendliest of staff, a really nice pint and the best pie I've had in ages! Not forgetting the beautiful Mulan, we'll be back soon to load you up with doggie treats!

The pub has new tenants and they need to up their game where supplying shiny, clean glassware is concerned. It might have been clean, but the glass supplied with my wife's cider was watermarked and wet which just doesn't look nice - glasses should sparkle! I noticed that another wine drinking customer also had a freshly cleaned, but grubby-looking glass. The pub is attractively decorated with comfortable seating. Being quite spacious, it needs a fair few customers to feel properly 'lived in', but it was quiet when we visited - we enjoy more of a 'buzz'. There's fierce competition from Old Glossop's two other pubs, both within 50 metres and so I expect that it'll take time to build a regular clientele - there's lots of promise though and I wish them well.

On holiday, we were looking for a somewhere to have some late lunch (3.30?) Most places seemed to have lunch or dinner service but Wheatsheaf had a longer lunch service so decided to give it a go. Food was nice, resident dog adorable(!), nice setting decorated for Halloween 🎃, friendly staff, good music selection for us millenials! Halloumi burger, ham & caramelised onion ciabatta with the salt & pepper fries as well as normal fries. Reasonable cost.

We have not been to the Wheatsheaf for a while now but really fancied a home cooked Sunday dinner. Then up popped a picture on Facebook showing the dinners and we couldnt resist. Booked a table with the family and we loved it. From my 5 year old to my mum (in her 80s but best not let the world know her actual age or Ill get told off) and we all demolished the lot. We will be back soon

Just recently had new landlord/landlady. Used to be a great little pub, unfortunately not much of a welcome when ordering at the bar, considering they are new, the place has had a white wash makeover with ice white led lights, cold atmosphere, very clinical. And a massive price increase, almost £4 more for two of our usual drinks. Unfortunately not my local any more. *update.... It was a Saturday afternoon, not many people in, yes one decent original staff member, very hard working girl. Was charged nearly £14 for a beer, gin and tonic, maybe she has charged me for a double? Definitely wasn't. The same drinks ordered in the Bulls head was £11 and only £10 in the commercial down the road. As for your new gate to contain children and dogs, good luck with that!

Just a shame its not child friendly while serving food. The children was asked to be quite, then we got told a short time later that our table was needed so could we please hurry up. We was about to order desserts at this point but wasn't able to due to this. Unfortunate really as when previously going in for a drink the older lady that served in the evening was so nice and welcoming. We dropped in for lunch after a wet windy walk to the B 29 wreckage site. Meet by a very nice member of staff who took our drinks order and seated us. She came and took out order and was very enthusiastic about all the food on the menu. We went for the Greek Platter for 2 on her recommendation. It was the best Greek food I have eaten outside of Greece without doubt having visited many of them in particularly Kefalonia. On arrival the food was superbly presented and smelt delicious. The Chef should be commended for his culinary skills. Another member of our walking gang had the Chicken, Bacon and Leek pie which was wolfed down in double quick time. This pub is a hidden gem made all the better for the excellent service of the Young member of Staff who was enthusiastic about her job, travelling, Greece and textiles. Well done. We will be doing more walks in the local area having found such a great watering hole in very near future. Well done Team Wheatsheath.

VERY POOR SERVICE I booked for my family to visit Christmas Eve back in September , there is 5 of us so I always need to book ahead. So DISAPPOINTED the booking wasn’t registered even though several emails went back and forth and I was told I was booked in and to bring my deposit by the week before. Fuming when I called to pay and there wasn’t a booking, she asked me to leave it with her and she would call back - she called back but I’d obviously booked somewhere else and thankfully they managed to squeeze us in at queens spice round the corner ( delicious and fab service at queens spice) She did apologise but not until she found the email thread and admitted it simply hadn’t been booked in. Massive inconvenience we had to re arrange our whole evening. Perhaps to improve your service back up your bookings.

A small pub in a quiet area of a small town but does a great Greek meze menu. The lady owner lived in Greece for many years and her son is the chef. She's very charming and helpful and the other staff were very friendly and efficient. There is standard pub grub on the menu but we wanted something different. The pub is in a nice spot with views of the hills and the old church. It's next to the 17th century village of Old Glossop which is very pleasant.

Unpretentious pub in Old Glossop. Competitively priced good food and drinks. The Greek influenced menu isn't very extensive but that means what's there is great and a lot better than the identikit food of so many other pubs. Stayed open (Friday lunchtime) just to feed our walking group. Their internet presence badly needs sorting out, Google finds lots of out of date and confusing material. At present the wix link is best (but that wrongly said "Friday food service 12:30-20:00", lucky we checked.)

Me and my partner decided to come for another meal out after we had a great meal the day before with our friends at the same pub. We had booked in advance, and we brought along our two dogs. The food was lovely, however the welcome was not. After one of our dogs jumped on the seating (we have a 7 month old puppy who had never been to the pub before), I was rudely shouted at for her to get down before having a chance to do it myself, by who I believe the was the manager/ owner and another member of staff. When my partner came into the pub, he overheard rude comments about what had happened by an older member of staff. We were completely judged as soon as we entered the pub and was made to feel uneasy and unwelcome. If it wasn’t for the lovely young waitress who served us, we would of left. She was nothing but kind and welcoming and that is the only reason why we stayed and our dogs were impeccably behaved for the rest of the duration of our stay. The attitude of other staff members was unkind, judgemental and unnecessary, when I was seen to be struggling it would of been appreciated if help was offered instead of critical remarks. If a pub welcomes dogs, then they should expect things to happen like this from time to time. And as a manager/ owner of a pub they should be setting excellent standards of customer service and not by the waitresses.

Customer service needs to improve bigtime. I ordered the Tex Mex burger without "smokey cheddar cheese" as described on the menu. When the burger arrived with cheese, I told the older looking waitress/owner that I believe was ironically named Karen that I asked for no cheese. She then informed me that the chef had decided that because I didnt want smokey cheese he would just stick a different type of cheese on without asking. She turned on her heels in a huff and a puff and peeled the cheese off said burger in the kitchen. She came back out and decided to give me a lecture on how it was easier to say no cheese rather than no smokey cheddar. When my partner asked for condiments the two waitresses could be seen rolling their eyes and clearly talking about cheesegate. When it was time to pay the bill, the younger waitress came over and just stated the total value of the bill without presenting a breakdown. When questioned they had attempted to overcharge us on drinks. Great. Needless to say wont be coming back, its just fortunate that they have a convenient location following the b29 walk.

Service was disappointing. Manager wouldn't move a couple of tables to comfortably fit our group, even though we had booked in advance and there was plenty of room (this was at 4:00pm, so not exactly peak time). We ended up having to squeeze 6 adults, a baby, and 2 dogs onto a table for 4, and ended up overflowing onto the neighbouring table anyway! Food was also underwhelming and they wouldn't let us split our bill (all had to paid by one person and we had to split it between ourselves.) The Wheatsheaf is everything a pub should be. Quality beers, many locally sourced from the excellent Howard town Brewery. A fab location right at the heart of Old Glossop just a short walk from open countryside. Lovely seating area outside. The Greek food menu is superb. Everything is cooked fresh in the kitchen and to a very high standard. Friendly, informal staff. Kids welcome, dogs too. The only downside is the pubs small size. But that's not a criticism, just a statement of fact. They can't help the size of the pub. Everything else though.... arguably my favourite Glossop pub.

The rooms are lovely, the location is brilliant and everything was exactly what we were after. The only disappointment was the breakfast experience. The fact that the breakfast was not a sit down but a take away, the only hot option was a reheated prepacked sausage or bacon cob. In effect the breakfast is a take out cafe that you get 1 item of food and a drink. Therefore we went elsewhere for breakfast.

We had room 7 for a night, it’s a little apartment, which is lovely and perfectly positioned. For those looking for en-suite facilities the loo is the other end of the apartment. More lighting is required at the back (before the gate) The bedroom is a lovely size and plenty blankets etc for extra warmth just felt a bigger bed would be nice as the room can take it. Guessing it’s small / standard double.
