I happened upon this wonderful coffee shop by chance, I was cycling in the area and needed calories, I am so glad I found it. The service was excellent the varied choices superb I went for the overnight oats which were delicious. I will always use local independent cafes whenever I am visiting anywhere, I am not a chain regular. The cakes all looked home made as did the all the fare on offer, I spoke to a lovely gentleman who served my food and told him I loved his place. I managed to complete my ride before they closed so popped in for some cake before returning home, suffice to say it was outstanding the carrot cake did not disappoint, it will be my go to now should I return to Ashbourne, I just wish I had it on my doorstep, it is that good. I loved the decor and the ambiance it is a place you feel at home in, which is a difficult quality to acquire in establishments nowadays. The staff and all concerned facilitate this, I so hope this is still here when I next visit.

Absolutely lovely food. The waitresses were all excellent, very friendly and attentive. The decor, lighting, candles were lovely. It was very romantic, with everyone there talking quietly with no raised voices, making it a really nice night out. Highly recommended !

Mmmmnnn yummy breakfast food. The big full English is such great value with 4 sausages, 4 bacon, 2 egg, baked beans, hash brown bites, 2 slices of toast, 2 eggs and a grilled tomato plus black pudding! Pancakes were also amazing. Very god brunch!

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Best flapjack in Derbyshire ! Lovely service with a smile and time for a chat. A brilliant place to stop and enjoy the countryside and we only live 4 miles away?!!

Staying at Wild hive nearby we walked into Ashbourne for lunch and found it slim pickings if you didn’t want brunch. We were drawn to the machine inn as it looked modern but cosy and it was exactly what we hoped for. We shared a cheese board and the nice young chap behind the bar was really helpful with suggesting a wine. We’d heard mixed reviews about the service but we found everyone to be friendly and attentive. We’ll certainly return if we’re in the area again.

We arrived on a very wet Saturday lunchtime, soaked through with very soggy doggies. We were received with a really warm welcome. Our daughter is a coeliac and as they didn’t advertise gluten free food we asked if there was anything she could have even a bowl of soup would suffice. We didn’t expect the chef to come out and go through the whole menu with us giving her loads of options of gluten free choices. He was so helpful and I don’t think people realise the difference this makes to someone with an allergy. The food was lovely, delicious fresh baguettes for the non coeliac’s and a burger without a bun and cheesy chips for the gluten free choice. We will certainly be visiting again.

A lovely little cafe, with a nice selection of coffees and fresh soft drinks. Some beautiful dishes on the menu, you can tell the chefs put a lot of care and love into the food. We had the brunch stack and bacon pancakes and both were so yummy. Waitresses were very pleasant, and service was relatively speedy. Will definitely return.

Came here as it looked like a nice little cafe from the outside. Ordered a full English breakfast and most of it was cold. I’m sure it was already cooked and attempted to be reheated and failed. When I placed the order the lady serving didn’t really know what was going on either. Won’t be going back

4 of us staying in a nearby cottage called in for an evening meal.We hadn't booked, but we're given a nice table in the small bar, near the woodburner. We ordered from the simple menu, and all enjoyed their chosen meal. The draught beer went down well too. The prices were very resonable, main course probably average £10, that's good There days. There was a nice buzz in the bar, we'd go there again no problem.
