4 of us staying in a nearby cottage called in for an evening meal.We hadn't booked, but we're given a nice table in the small bar, near the woodburner. We ordered from the simple menu, and all enjoyed their chosen meal. The draught beer went down well too. The prices were very resonable, main course probably average £10, that's good There days. There was a nice buzz in the bar, we'd go there again no problem.

The food here is fantastic, top quality and very generous home cooked food. Place very clean and staff couldn’t do enough for us. Hope to go back very soon.

Popped into the the jug and glass or a bite to eat. We had beef in a peppercorn sauce and my partner had ham egg and mushrooms, washed down with a pint and a coffee. The food was very nice and served quickly, any requests were dealt with without any problems. A ideal place to eat, so if your passing through on the way to not from Buxton or tour in Hartington and you can’t get a seat to eat anywhere, give the jug and glass a try.

Lovely pub and restaurant with great food and lovely spacious rooms. We stayed as a family of three with two dogs and they provide biscuits and water bowls in the rooms for dogs. Food is excellent. Would highly recommend.

A very good place to spend time in. Good food, quiet (no musac), parking and good coffee. Worth a visit. Strangely, not on Google Maps, they are missing out on business by not being on it.

Jug and Glass Inn, Ashbourne Rd., Buxton. This is a difficult review to write. Thus, in fairness to the owner Stuart & traveller, I explain in detail. The Inn is on the side of the A515 & stands alone. My husband & I arrived about mid afternoon, mid December. We were made very welcome by June, the lady left in charge whilst the owners had gone out. Stuart had sent me a voicemail telling me he & his wife had gone shopping & would return about 5pm. - June would look after us in the meantime We thought this message very thoughtful of him. June could not have been more helpful...so very kind. She made my husband a cup of coffee & we had a chat in the bar area. She showed us the prettily decorated dining section, then she led us towards our room. We had requested a quiet one. As we were about to be shown upstairs to room 9, I realised that all the rooms would be quiet - I'd asked if we were the only guests booked in & was told we were. As I am a blue badge holder, I asked if we could have one on the ground floor. June said of course & showed us to room 3 which had a lovely view. Perfectly adequate in size but the room was near freezing with no radiator running. It had apparently not been used for a while and it seemed no other rooms were heated in readiness for the occasional traveller. She turned the rad on to full, saying that room 9 had originally been allocated to us - presumably warm. We understood this & assumed that room 3 would warm up.. It did not. My husband is a builder with expertise in all the trades. He realised that the radiator needed 'bleeding' & could not sufficiently heat up as was. All rooms apparently had tv's.. A tv is essential wherever we stay as I am awake many hours during the night. The one in room 3 would not work. June tried other rooms to see if a tv worked. None did. (When this was mentioned to Stuart later, he said lack of signal in the area was the problem). I feel the cold very much and could not envisage staying for our 2 nights as the low temperature affects my health. My husband who tolerates the cold well, did not feel warm. The basin in the bathroom had a severe, fairly deep crack from side to side - it was not good. With all the faults we did not feel keen on staying. We returned to the bar area, to find Stuart back from shopping. He told us the Inn was not yet open, then realised who we were when told we were guests. He asked if all ok.......we told him of the problems. He could not have been more helpful nor understanding, immediately saying we could leave without penalty. We accepted this offer. He even very kindly rang around and made a booking for us in a nearby establishment. We left on good terms. Please do not disregard the Jug and Glass Inn. Give it a go in warmer weather. Stuart deserves it.

Phoned to ask what time food was being served. Was spoken to very courtly. Unnecessary. Went elsewhere.

We didn't know the area and looking for somewhere to have Easter Sunday lunch. They managed to fit us in (4) and we all ordered roast beef. It was probably the best roast dinner I've ever had in a pub, it was fantastic! Helping was generous but I couldn't resist a Treacle Sponge pudding...... OMG it was gorgeous!! Would have no hesitation to recommend, or return.

This was our 3rd stop of the afternoon trying to get a meal. We were not disappointed, the landlord was very friendly and advised us it may be a twenty minute wait for food. We were quite happy with that. The menue is fairly standard, but the food was superb. My husband had cottage pie, and it did look good, he said it was very tasty. I had scampi and chips. The chips were the best I have ever had and the scampi were perfectly cooked. We often drive the road it's on when we go for a drive around the Peaks and we will definitely stop there again for a meal.

Nice rooms and good breakfast but the pub closes at 9 when all the customers have gone. Of course its convenient by the roaf and there's not much traffic at night and it's not far from Hartington.

popped in here with my husband for some food and a drink... The staff seemed ok not overly helpful,it wasn't busy but it took the food a long time to come my starter was garlic mushrooms which were awful served on a sizzling plate,The mushrooms were too old and didn't sizzle just flopped on the sizzler no flavor no taste, my main meal was Curry but it tasted of nothing if felt like it had been microwave heated to many times !! the drinks were fine the surroundings beautiful and the Decor lovely and clean.. Maybe if the staff started to like their jobs and smile a little it might make up for the poor food

Stopped here on a evening ride out on bike. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Menu pub prices on average. But when food came it was luke warm and starter size portions. I ordered the pasta and Stilton etc I got 10 pieces of pasta spirals that's all about what a toddler would eat for £8.50. Hubby ordered the cottage pie which was in a condiments dish and was all potatoes. Although tasted nice we left hungry and £24 Lighter in the wallet so won.t be going again.

The food is very good here, proper pub food at a reasonable price. We both had the prawn cocktail and I had a t-bone which came with salad garnish, mushrooms and onion rings. It was very well cooked and delicious. The staff are lovely, very welcoming and friendly. Sadly a very rude woman spoiled the atmosphere in the bar by shouting about something or other and demanding a reduction in her bill. When we went outside a couple who were with the woman were laughing like drains because they'd got a cheap meal. Personally I loved this place and the welcome we had.

We were staying locally for a long weekend and booked a table for a Friday evening. They were very busy, always a good sign, and we were welcomed. We were in the restaurant and had a corner table. The menu had a good variety and the food was freshly cooked and home made. Very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. There was a good selection of beers and wines. I had a pint of red diesel, not not the fuel but a pleasant ale. We will return again

Visited the Jug and Glass with other members of my family, some of whom live close by. It's certainly one of the better pub Sunday roasts I've ever had. The beef was near on perfect. The pub itself looks a bit tired, but hey - it's a good old traditional, old fashioned, country pub. I would eat there again.

Five of us ate here on a Saturday evening. We all had different meals and we all equally enjoyed them. The 28 day old steak was wonderful with the bernaise sauce. The suet steak pudding I am told was melt in the mouth. My neice had the duck two ways and our daughter had the butternut squash curry. Even if we wanted to we couldn't find anything to fault. We had our meal in the back room where the chef's can be seen cooking the food, it was very quiet that evening. But we didn't go for the atmosphere we went for the food and it was fab.

We regularly walk around the Dales and have driven past the Jug and Glass many times saying that we would try it. Our visit this year really disappointed us. The food was poor and probably was hot out of the microwave! It certainly was not up to scratch. Nothing more to say really.

Visited fully intending to have some food, but found the man behind the bar so rude, abrupt and unwelcoming we decided to go elsewhere. Politeness costs him nothing, rudeness cost him the loss of four adults wanting food and more drinks!

I always try to make allowances, and perhaps it was the cold wet day, midweek but this was a gloomy, frustrating lunch experience. We were early for a meeting in Hartington and decided to try the Jug & Glass for lunch, instead of eating in Hartington, as planned. The decoration is dark, and the interior may have been attractive on a bright day, but the dying flowers in a dry vase couldn't be blamed on the weather. Neither could the service. Although there were only 4 other people in the pub, also ordering food, we waited 45 minutes for an average fish & chips, the fish looking suspiciously like a Birds Eye "Chip Shop Fish" offering!I can't even say the service made it worthwhile as the chap behind the bar seemed thoroughly miserable. I rarely give a pub less than Average, but can't improve on Poor this time.

We chanced upon the Jug and Glass on our way home from Ashbourne as we travelled the A515. I had stopped to move some things in the boot of the car which were rolling around. We decided to have a drink and a bite to eat. There were three of us and we all decided to have a baguette each and share a portion of chips between us. The food was excellent - and certainly not the "light bite" that it was advertised at. There was an excellent side salad and a mountain of crisps with the baguette. They even catered to my fussy daughter who didn't want the full salad experience! The staff were friendly and were keen to point out that they would be changing to their winter opening hours later in the week so that we wouldn't be disappointed if we went again and found them closed. Will definitely be back when we're next in the area.

We were looking for somewhere to eat at 2.30 in an area where most establishments seem to stop serving lunches at 2pm. The Jug and Glass appeared like an oasis especially as the blackboard advertised meals all day. Very friendly staff and extremely flavorsome gammon and hunters chicken. First rate food at reasonable prices,

Beautifully decorated with blazing log fires and a welcome to match, this pub is probably the best in the area. Great menu at realistic prices and unsurpassed quality and presentation - what’s not to like. We could not fault anything - thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
