The Bridge in Derbyshire Dales

Went for lunch today and what a disappointment. When we arrived the whole place was empty, this had me worried as a busy restaurant is always a good sign of happy customers. We asked for the roast lunch menu and were promptly told the roast meats were just Gammon and Beef. We both ordered the beef, what a mistake, it was so tough we both had a job to eat it. The vegetables were pretty average as well. I paid the bill on my bank card on the way out, not really paying enough attention as I swiped my card. We had stopped at the local M & S on the way home when my wife asked me how much the meal was. When I told her it was £43.10 she thought it didn't sound right for two roast lunches and two small lagers. I went back to the restaurant and explained the problem was promptly given £5.60 refund. The young female staff are obviously not concentrating on their job. It used to be a really good restaurant for roast lunches, not any more, avoid it.

We had a platter to share with a side of cheesy chips. The platter looked amazing and the breading was great across the board but the chips were a bit disappointing (not included in the photo). The service was great and friendly. The beer on tap had amazing variety too!

Can’t recommend this place enough! The food is always lovely and with such a wide variety to choose from on the menu, there’s something for everyone.

Visited on Wednesday early evening. Food was great. Draught Beers are fantastic. Staff are lovely. Great to see a happy team.

Booked with our 2 greyhounds for a meal and were told no problems as we are a dog friendly pub and were offered various places within the pub to dine so that our dogs felt comfortable. Food was plentiful and served on a hot plate, which I consider a must. Had Lasagne and the ham with chips and was very tasty. Was a couple of locals (young people) who's language could have been challenged by the staff, but I suppose you should expect it nowadays but not if you were a young family sitting having a meal. Overall a great location and good food.

Had a walk through Ashbourne and came across The Bridge which is part of the Marstons company. We had dinner here and the service was very good. The tables were all clean and as it was a Monday it wasn't very busy. We had two mains of the burger with cheese and bacon, this came quickly and was very tasty and was a job to finish it all. Home made coleslaw, onion rings and chips. Everything about it was great and would definitely recommend it if you're feeling hungry. We also had the mince and onion pie again this was of the same size portion. The pie was served on a big bed of mashed potato and a generous portion of green peas. Also had a large gravy boat if you wanted to add this. The pastry was very tasty and buttery and not dry like some other places. Again a good size portion. We wanted dessert but after these we had to admit defeat and go without. Maybe next time we'll have room.

Bar was empty downstairs waited for about 10 minutes until a customer told you had to go upstairs to another bar!! Should have been a sign downstairs to tell potential customers that is what you had to do. Girl was very apologetic but the other three clowns sitting upstairs made you feel very unwelcome Saw at three other couples come in look around and walk out

We were a party of eight with two dogs and were here to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. The staff were so accommodating and friendly, the food was great and catered for my many allergies without any fuss. I would highly recommend a visit here and will be returning on our next holiday to Ashbourne.

Very good service, drinks okay, but no quality draft ales which is a big shame. Menu seemed okay but abit pricey so we didn't have food. Looking at other customers they seemed happy with quality of food.

Had an end of year staff get-together here recently with a fairly large group of colleagues. The food was very reasonably priced, and my falafel salad was really quite tasty. The dishes are quite basic but good value for money.

My self and my family went in for an early evening meal, 5pm. We were the only people in. The table was dirty and when we received the cutlery it was wet as if it had just come out of a dishwasher. The food was alright. We finished our meal but it felt like the staff were longing for us to leave, so they could have a meeting. And when we came to leave the front door was locked.

Excellent Sunday Roast lunch, always extra special, portions are very large. Service also over and above. This is regular for us when in Derbyshire. Good Value.

Excellent fish & chips and great service, we had the smaller portion and it was plentiful. So nice to be able to choose a smaller portion, not just because of the price, but the food waste too. Would definitely recommend, can sit in or outside

Lovely food great staff amazing place.

We were two of the guests mentioned by Gabriela in a previous review. We thought the restaurant did extremely well in what must have been difficult circumstances for them. There were only 3 members of staff because it was a Monday evening and not usually busy. So the chef was also taking orders and bringing meals out. We thought the food was really good and the attitude of the staff was exceptional. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Attended a wake here, very disorganised room not open when we got there & not enough seating. On the plus side the food was very good

I just want to say a big "thank you" to Michelle and Jane at The Bridge for saving the day. We had an emergency in our hotel and we couldn't provide dinner for our guests. I needed 30 dinners sorted in a very short space of time. Being a Monday, not many places were open and I started to feel hopeless. When Michelle picked up the phone she said "yes" immediately with the best "can do" attitude I ever encountered on a person. Both Michelle and Jane were brilliant throughout and they got me out of a very difficult situation. The food and service were great and my guests were happy. Ladies, you are the best. Any employer should be happy to have you in their team. Thanks a million. YOU ARE THE BEST !

23-04-2033 I’ve just had my lunch and order roasted chicken dish and wasn’t warm enough chicken wasn’t roasted, as they offered on the menu. Raised this complaint to the waitress and she apologised and offered us one dessert for free. However, we ended up paying for the dessert. I mentioned this after we paid the bill and clarifying what we were told, the waitress who offered the free dessert was sitting on a table checking her phone, listening. What we were telling to her colleague and avoiding eye contact. Definitely will not return poor customer service and food.

We popped in for an early Friday evening bite to eat and was not disappointed. A warm welcome with tasty food. The steak and ale pie was lovely. A pleasant experience.

Really good food. Although the menu is small, what's offered is really tasty. I had the steak, mushroom and stilton flatbread which was lush. Would have preferred my steak slightly less well done and the stilton melted but that's a personal preference. It was enjoyable and I'd eat here again. My son's Hunters chicken burger looked good too The staff were friendly and polite. Definitely worth a visit

Visited over the Easter break for a meal with my son and daughter. On entering, we were greeted by a lovely young lady called mollie. Nothing was too much trouble. She seated us at our table and took the drinks order. Our dog was looked after too, with a bowl of water and some treats. Food was ordered and was served soon after, again by mollie. Between us, we had rib eye steak, fish and chips, and a burger. All cooked to perfection. Particularly liked the potato wedges. Not powdery as they generally are elsewhere but tasted home made. Would highly re omme d this place. The atmosphere, service and food, all spot on. Thanks for a lovely evening

Booked a table for four.. on arriving. we were told we they had no booking.. but they could accomadate us.. ordered our food.. our potatoes were cold. at to ask for salt .. then there was no suger. the cup of tea was half full. the young staff were rushing around..did not speak.just felt that it was so unorganised. it wasnt plearsurable at all..sorry wont be going again.

Popped in here on my birthday and Honestly the food was up there with the best I’ve ever had. I had Chicken Breast in a Creamy sauce and the wife had Steak Mushroom and Stilton flatbread with fries. I had Seen a few reviews on here slating the food but I didnt see them till I’d ordered the food but we had no complaints whatsoever. It was amazing food. Also the young girls serving, ever so lovely

I came in today with my partner, I had a lovely experience the staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome. I loved the interior and the environment I used to come in here all the time, however the food has gone downhill and wasn’t up to standard.

Tea was cold and so was our dinner. However the staff were sorry and did change it. Just make sure it's hot before bringing it out. Overall clean tidy and friendly

I Went to the Bridge for a what I thought would be an amazing dinning experience as I'd been told how good this place was for food and entertainment. I loved the layout and the set up of the bar/restaurant and the live entertainment was on point. The service was pretty decent, friendly staff and quick drink service, so far so good. We then made a food order, my partner had the mushroom risotto which looked and tasted phenomenal. My daughter had the BBQ chicken wings for starter and the chicken loaded fries as a main, the wings looked delicious and my daughter absolutely annihilated them! The dirty fries looked and smelt so good! I tried this and was blown away with how good the dirty chicken fries were!! This I would definitely recommend 😋 So so far so good right! This is were the evening turned a little sour in my opinion, I ordered myself the chicken and chorizo risotto, I've never tried a risotto before so I was really looking forward to diving into my meal! The first half of this risotto went down like a treat! I couldn't get enough, however I then took a mouthful in and had to spit it back out as something wasn't right... I looked into what I had just tried to eat and found an approximate 1cm in length piece of plastic in my food. As I'm sure you can imagine I wasn't exactly into eating plastic as it's not really part off your 5 a day so I spoke with a waitress who kindly bought the chef out who apologised for the mistake and offered to make me another one from scratch. I was happy with this as it tasted beautiful! About 5 or so minutes later a fresh chicken and chorizo risotto was bought out to me with the chef apologising again for the mistake on the previous one. So I sat back and looked at it and it seemed fine to me... that is until I took my first bite of the risotto making sure I had some chicken, chorizo and rice on the fork I took in a mouthful of this tasty looking risotto! I again unfortunately ended up finding yet ANOTHER piece of plastic in my food and this time it was approximately 3cm in length!! One time mistake is acceptable but twice, come on now. So I again raised it with the bar staff who got the chef out, she looked at it and straight away you could sense she was not happy with this and took it away again apologising for the mistake, however this is where i believe the restaurant failed as that was it, no one else came to speak to me about it, another one being cooked wasn't offered out to me and when i went to get another round of drinks the bar staff asked how the meal was, i explained that i had found plastic in it and she said she was aware but how was the second one, to which I explained that that one also had been ruined with a piece of plastic. She mentioned that she would speak with management about it, no one came to speak to me and I was in there for a further 40mins to which I stated I wasn't paying for the main. We then paid the rest of the bill and left. So I never got to eat my main. I did enjoy the time spent in The Bridge that evening its was just ruined by mistakes made by the chef. I would recommend this place as it is friendly and busy and had good vibes. I'd just check your risotto before plowing it down your throat in future.

Average food but very slow. Took 1 hour to recieve a couple of paninis at lunchtime. Would have gone elsewhere if we'd been warned that it'd take that long.

Had the most wonderful afternoon here with my family - beautiful food fresh and delicious local produce. Manager was outstanding- did everything to accommodate us - ended up staying all afternoon and many drink later …..

The good things: The place is clean and tidy and staff are excellent. Decent prices too, and the Chilli 🌶 was very good with a nice bit of heat. Not so good: Chef wouldn't change rice for chips on the chilli. Chicken was obviously microwaved as it was rubbery, and corn on the cob was cold. Fair play we got a bit off the bill but it's not what going out for a meal is about. If they can cook one meal good why can't they do all of them?

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch! Delicious and a great price too. Generous portion sizes and loads of fresh veg included, Staff really helpful. Highly recommended. We stayed at Meadow View in Mayfield so the Bridge is only down the road. We had a nice walk along the river Dove to help it go down when we got home. Lovely way to spend a Sunday.

We had lunch - the flat breads were the most popular choice - we thought it would be a light lunch - we were wrong as really good portion size. More a meal than a light lunch. Really tasty. Some had the homemade pie which was very good quality. We felt it was great value for money. The location is brilliant - very central - easy parking at the Shawcroft carpark opposite. We felt very well looked after and everyone said they would return when in Ashbourne

Sunday dinner was amazing best one we have had definitely recommend. and the kids meals we will be back again 😋.

Best Sunday roast I've ever had!!

Stopped for lunch on the way to holiday cottage. Food and service were excellent.

Called in for a meal with my wife and friends and was persuaded to have a go at the quiz. Fully Internet based. Play on your phone or tablet. First time for these old timers, but really enjoyed the experience. No chance of googling the answers. Multi choice questions. You just have to be quick on the answer and confirm button.

What a fantastic place, the staff are brilliant and very welcoming. Doing the place up fantastic.
