Had steak and ale pie made by Peppers in ths village. Came with mash and a good portion of veg. Carrot, broccoli, peas and sugar snap peas. Gravy on the food plus another gravyboat full. Absolutely delicious. Typical pub grub menu

Disappointing. Half my chips were overcooked and cold, the other half hot but looked pale and undercooked. My partner’s pie was good, but the veg were overcooked and not properly drained. Whilst it wasn’t particularly expensive, we wouldn’t go back. No issues with the service which was good. And for the record we didn’t complain at the time as we were part of a group, and somebody else had chosen the pub.

We were staying up the road so booked a table. Pub served good beer and cider loved the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that it is very dog friendly. People were playing cards and games and it felt like a good old fashioned country pub. Staff were great even though it was busy and food arrived quickly. Good pub grub that is reasonably priced and the pies really are worth a try!

Quiet pub. Food was good solid pub fare.. not amazing but tasty and reasonably priced. Just what was needed after long day walking. The locals were chatty and the landlord friendly. A real fire plus dog friendly. We loved it.

Very good pub grub and service

Nice little pub, they serve food but we only got drinks when we were there. The barmaid was very nice, we tried the local ales and we sat by the fire, it was so cosy!

Went in at lunchtime good food good beer great value, definitely recommend it

Lovely meal in a friendly busy pub. Dog friendly so a bonus, friendly locals and the pies with veg (and extra gravy for me) was superb. Good pint of Pedigree too!

A quiet pub, good food at reasonable prices.we went on Sunday evening and were the only diners earlier, in the afternoon it was very busy. Excellent service.

Went New years eve and it was OK.

Soooo We ate a Sunday lunch here several times. Each time (sadly) got progressively worse. The first time was excellent. The second was OK. The 3rd was awful. First time we received a large gravy boat each. The 3rd time a tiny coffee cream jug. The first time the meat was OK. Subsequent visits the meat became tougher and more chewy. My partner asked for vegetarian (no meat but extra veg) and his plate arrived without meat and no extras. In fairness when we enquired they did send out a fresh dish of veg. The veg on the 3rd visit was limp and looked microwaved. Please see image. It's such a shame because we are small eaters and ordered the small size which was great value (at least on the first visit) We live super local and had hoped to make this our weekly Sunday dinner. Perhaps they've had a change of kitchen staff. I've still given 3 stars as everyone there is lovely and we all make mistakes. Perhaps it will improve but we're anxious about wasting our money xx

Great place, good selection of nice meals at very reasonable prices, pleasant service, good beers, also at fair prices. Decor is fine if unexceptional, typical country pub vibe. Will be back. Recommended.

Can't fault this cosy pub, we are a walking gang of 8 & we do appreciate a good lunchtime pit stop. We all enjoyed our meals, good value & proper chips! a rarity these days, the sausages, fish fingers, the prawns etc were all delicious. We'll be back thank you

Lovely pub, warm welcome and looked after a very big party of 18 of us twice in 2 days. They were very accommodating with us just turning up Sat tea time and the food was ace. Sunday lunch was great in a giant Yorkshire pud 😊

Shared a lovely meal here with my friend. Hadn't been here for years & we were not disappointed. Booked online & had quick reply, staff friendly & welcoming, very cosy pub atmosphere, everyone was having a good time, very nice that dogs are allowed in & they were very well behaved. I had chicken curry with rice & nan ( could of had chips, or half rice half chips, which was a nice choice) the curry was full of flavours & not dry at all as some can be, rice was very fluffy & light. my friend had sausage, veg & giant Yorkie, choice of mash or chips, she had chips, it was a very large portion, we both enjoyed our meals. The menu was quite a wide choice for saying it's a small pub, we both had lemon meringue for pudding, it was lovely & lemony in the middle, the meringue was soft & not hard which was different as mine always go rock hard. The young girl who served us was marvellous, she was taking food orders, bringing food out & serving the bar, that's multi tasking !! We have now booked a group Xmas meal in December which has realy good choice. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you.

Just the place for a family get together, it quiet and the area we were in didn't have sports screens all over the place. Staff are friendly and efficient, locals seated around the bar tend to hog the serving area. But I suppose they are the ,'bread and butter' of the pub. We have had several good value meals there over the years.

A last-minute booking they could not have been nicer. A friendly welcome with fabulous food including a treat for the dog. Thank you. we had a lovely evening.

Must remember to as if food is available before ordering drinks. For the second time today after getting drinks we were told that no food would be available as there was a well attended wake. Last time it was a petanq competition. So after drinking up we went down to The Boat for a lovely meal.

Lovely oldey worldly pub in quaint Middleton with beer garden and outdoor seating. Staff are friendly and food was delicious. The menu is limited but it’s all pub classics. Everything was spot on and super generous portion sizes, which is just what you need when you’ve been hiking all day. Prices very reasonable in the current climate. The pub is dog friendly. Recommended! Especially the Prawn Cocktail. Can’t fault it.

We’ve just been a lovely walk on Middleton top popped into this pub for a spot of lunch, Annabel and Ella were amazing even though I broke the dog treat jar. The girls were absolutely amazing and lovely. A credit to the pub. The food was definitely five star very tasty xx

Could not fault our visit yesterday, efficient staff, menu explained, loved the story of the pie maker being the local teacher, thk you Sir your pies were delicious 😋 great area out back for the kids and lots of tables, great place to catch up with family and friends 👍

The gang of locals stood at the bar and blocking 3/4s of it while fewer than half the tables inside were taken was certainly not particularly welcoming. The food was fairly average - laminated menus advertising fresh-from-frozen meals running the gamut of fish to burgers to pies to curries. Four cask pulls with only three on, but nothing particularly interesting

The young ladies behind the till were very pleasant unlike the landlord who was very rude and obnoxious when we complained about the steak, it tasted off and had a horrible smell. We ordered 3 burgers 2 of which had to be sent back twice as the order was wrong.

Huge burgers for the hungry teens. Prawn sandwich came with king size prawns, crisps and a decent salad. The only complaint was that the chips weren't hot

Stopped by for a Sunday drink which was ok. The 2 staff we met appeared to be totally fed up which was a pity. It was sunny out but it was hard to find a vacant bench that wasn't on a steep slope. The kids play area was unusable with the remains of tape discouraging entry. I expected better as it's in a nice position and the reviews are very positive.

Stopped here for a beer and had a very good meal.. lovely wood beams and very oldy woldy atmosphere. Loads of outside seating with great views..

Pub needs a sparkle Staff friendly, food was ok, 8 meals in total, my burger was good but all the food was a little lukewarm. We ate outside in the beer garden which again needs some TLC. Hopefully this pub gets some investment as it's on a great spot

Small pub in a nice location. Has a beer garden for nice weather although it's not the most level of Gardens. They also serve food during limited hours. I had the double burger which was a good size and price.

This was not planned. But amazing staff warm welcome and the food was excellent 👌 I had the pie and friend had the burger 🍔 and nothing was wrong. The size of the burger was shocking, and you need a good-sized tummy to finish it. Will definitely be going back again 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 from me. SUPER PUB 👌 👍

Really nice home-cooked meal at a good price. Not posh, but we thought it was our nicest ever pub meal.

If your looking for a friendly local pub with basic pub grub. You've come to the right place. Things we liked about this place; open fire friendly staff, chips. Whilst we were there, the mens toilet was flooded and staff didn't attend to during the 3 hours we were there. Their meals weren't quite hot enough, looked good and were nicely presented, but much of the food tasted like it wasn't fresh and the veg was overcooked. The waffle was very dry. I'd say the food was slightly disappointing and would recommend avoiding the deserts, although the bread and butter pudding was a hit. I've given he pub 3/5 because of the lack of response to the toilet and under par food.

Nice place to eat with a good pint. There biggest asset is the young barmaid who holds the place together and is worth every penny she gets and a bit more

Visited twice now 28th for drinks & 31st for food Jan ‘23. Definitely a lovely place. Staff very friendly and checking all is ok, which was lovely. Food - excellent piping hot and huge portions. We were even given updates when our food would be ready from the barman. Who was lovely happy to chat - thank you. As a visitor to the area will defo visit again and recommend to others 👍👏

I came here for the 4x4 meet up that was posted round open invite. Cracking pub frendly staff, good beers on tap, food & bbq was delicious 👍🏻 hope to see more of this happening.

Really nice meals only gave 4 stars as does not sell hot chocolate or decaff tea and coffee every thing else else was great

We had a great meal after our walk on the High Peak Trail. The steak and ale pie was excellent and the hosts were really welcoming.

Stay away! They pick and choose who eats there, we was sat watching the bar staff taking food orders from some people while telling others which looked like people on a vacation that they’d stopped serving food but then served others. Been coming here for years but won’t be anymore!!!

Loads of garden space so good with having 3 dogs. Had a thunder storm so large brollies worked well. Excellent range of ales.

Had a bit of a wait for drinks and our food order to be taken, but when our meals arrived they were lovely. New Owners and so a bit of 'getting used to'! We'll definitely go back here for a meal and another Guinness!

Visited for lunch, it was okay nothing special. Chips where very greasy and burger was just okay, fish fingers for the child where a tad greasy also. Seemed like it was a clean pub so credit where its due and out side was pleasant to sit.

Absolutely fantastic food and really helpful and friendly staff. Good selection of Ale. Beautiful setting.

As with other reviews, food seemed slow. However, food was also pretty bad. Everything was just way overdone. Burger was dry, eggs yolks were not runny and chips pretty crispy.

Great food, great atmosphere, great welcome... AND tonight (19/07/2022), a totally unflappable Barman despite the surge of customers all at once!! Love it!!

Traditional pub inside and out. Very nice welcome on arrival. Nothing to much for staff, starters were lovely, mains were hot and tasty. Desserts were really good. Family friendly and also welcoming for dogs

Stopped for something to bite. Beef lasagne with chips and salad was absolutely brilliant. Good prices. Plenty of outside seating. Spacious car park. Highly recommended.

Food was very good..but card machine wasn't working..so had to drive to get cash..no discount for our convenience, so a little disappointed..would eat there again though.

Went there yesterday on Sunday after visiting National Stone Centre. Staff and locals very friendly. Really good pub food. To be honest: calling it pub food doesn’t do it justice. I’m sure a lot of restaurants couldn’t serve food that tasty. We had the nut roast, the fish pie with salad and the double cheese burger. Kids had chicken nuggets. Definitely would go again Many thanks

Lovely staff and welcome. A lovely lunch of sandwiches with salad and a few crisps, and nice homemade chips, sat in the garden at the back, before heading off for.a walk at Middleton Top. Reasonable prices. Definitely visiting again.

The only down side is the locals sitting at the Small bar chatting and don't move for people to order drinks. Otherwise lovely pub. Less seats at the bar would be great.
