We visited for an early dinner while staying in the area. Two adults and two kids. There was something on the menu for all. Steak, burgers, pizza and traditional pub grub. Food was very good and the bill was reasonable. Staff were friendly and the place had a welcoming atmosphere. We would return.

Are here on a Saturday night. Lovely atmosphere. Cozy and friendly. Wonderful food. Attentive staff. We were staying at the stable next door so had breakfast delivered to our room - just as delicious and just as attentive! Thank you for a lovely evening x

Huge Sunday roast excellently cooked and presented. Good value too. Not keen on screens in bars which is always a thumbs down from me. There is a restaurant/lounge bar area so we could have chosen that. All things aside highly recommended.

Never fails to impress! The starter’s are fab large portions! Steak always cooked to perfection, all accompaniments especially the scoop chips are spot on! Only suggestion would be bring nav the 3 course menu midweek lunchtime at today’s price I’m sure you’d be full 🙂

Fantastic warm welcoming pub with great food and service. We booked a family of four and as we had a dog with us we sat in the bar area. Although frequently visited by locals we were made super welcome. The food was delicious and felt like it was really well cooked and seasoned. We both had steaks which were excellent and the kids had pizza which tasted excellent. I would also recommend the ribs for a starter. The apple crumble was also delicious! Great beer and service made this a great evening. Truly warm service and really nice people seem to run this pub. Definitely recommended!

Stumbled across The Bowling Green yesterday with my two friends and my dog, on our way back from a hike in Castleton. We'd been struggling to find anywhere dog friendly and came across the pub on our drive home. Took a seat in the bar area, which was lovely and warm. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, couldn't do enough for us. Fantastic breakfast menu. We all decided to go for the Scottish menu, which did not disappoint. It was huge, wonderfully cooked and presented. Better breakfast than I have had in Scotland! Everything tasted amazing, hats off to the chef. Will definitely be visiting again : )

Amazing food, great value and lovely friendly staff! Would definitely recommend. We went as a family trip if 7 including 2 young children. Really good varied menu, made it tricky to decide as it all looked good! The lamb shank was beautiful and fell apart on the plate. The children’s small meals also were amazing and were eaten all up!

We rang on the off chance they could squeeze us in as it was already half past 8. The lady on the phone was incrediy helpful and explained they stopped serving at 9 but would gladly seat us at 10 to 9 and put our order in. The food was fantastic, the service was fabulous and the people were lovely. Its a risk going so late because you feel like an inconvenience but they made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. 100% recommend, i will be back!

Went here for our anniversary meal out and it did not disappoint. From the minute we walked in the staff were absolutely outstanding and couldn't do enough for us. They were all extremely friendly, efficient and professional. We had a right laugh with them about something that would take too long to explain, they were brilliant. The food was also exceptional. We had the sticky beef to share to start with, then I had the steak and blue cheese pizza, the wife had the surf and turf pizza and I portion of scoop fries to share, it was all fantastic. Credit to the staff, chefs and management for running a fantastic pub / restaurant.

Went for lunch today as we were in Ashbourne. Convenient that there’s a small free car park opposite or off road parking. Quaint pub feel even though it’s on the side of a busy road. Amazing portion sizes and quality food for the price. I had a 7oz steak with dauphinoise potato for £13.50. It seemed much bigger than 7oz (not sure if it was) and perfectly cooked. A nice atmosphere in there too. Family friendly but would equally be nice for a couple stopping for afew drinks.

Delicious Sunday roast. After two attempts at finding a decent Sunday roast at two other local pubs, finally we have found one with delicious food. Lovely large fluffy Yorkshire Puds with tasty meats, particularly the roast pork. Coupled with a nice cosy atmosphere and reasonable prices you can't go wrong.

Worth the drive if your within 10/15 miles of this place. Food was outstanding, good beers, friendly locals. Popped in on a quiet Thursday but all the staff were lovely & attentive.

Came here after looking through reviews on TA and so glad we did. We were staying over at Alton Towers as a family of 3 and fancied something nice to eat rather than the overpriced bland stuff you get in the hotels. We didn’t book but luckily it was early so they could accommodate us. I think you would definitely need to book especially if going on a weekend. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to a table. We asked if there was any chance for a table with the comfy booth style seats because my son is autistic and will not sit for long on a typical chair and they were more than happy to accommodate us with no problem at all. This meant we could enjoy our meal nice and relaxed without the fear of him being uncomfortable and wanting to run round haha. It has a lovely warm feeling to the place and the menu was great. It was hard for us to choose what we wanted because everything sounded nice so we ended up ordering a few starters to share and they were all amazing. Sticky beef strips in a Teriyaki sauce - these were to die for! Garlic bread with cheese pizza, cheese and bacon topped chips and the house wings. They are not tight on the portions and we even ended up taking some garlic bread home haha! Also, a kids chicken nuggets and chips meal but they looked like homemade chicken chunks rather than your normal cheap nuggets and they were lovely too. Service was friendly and efficient which is always good when going out to eat with a 4 year old. Quicker the better! We would highly recommend this place and will definitely come back. I would like to try the Steak next time which looked amazing. Thanks so much to the ladies that served us and accommodated us, we really enjoyed our visit.

Excellent food, clearly cooked by a chef who knows what s/he is doing, instead of just heating up something from the freezer. Three of us had the black pudding and haggis stack and one had the rarebit. All dishes were fabulous, absolutely delicious . Everyone agreed that their mains were fantastic and were impressed with the veg served (cabbage, broccoli, leeks, mange tout) which were fresh and cooked to perfection . Special mention for the chips. Yummy! Unfortunately, none of us had room for dessert. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We have only recently moved to the area but will definitely be back.

We were staying at Mayfield Snuggery lodges close by and decided to have a late lunch. We were not disappointed at all. The food was very impressive and service was great.
