The best restaurants serving British food in England

What a beautiful village Bainbridge is and with a Tea Room/Bakery in a prime location. A huge disappointment was not at all what I was expecting.. No welcome when entering the establishment. I sat at a table observing that there were five other patrons, two tables of two and a single gentlemen. I read the menu and was looking forward to ordering a cooked breakfast. I sat for a total of 23 minutes whilst a young man served tea, bacon rolls and scones to the other patron he never ONCE acknowledged my presence. I eventually decided to leave. Not sure how to draw a positive from this experience, but I shall not be recommending it in my reviews here or elsewhere. Visit 27/03/2025

Been here twice recently first time was midweek evening, came here because of good reviews, but was disappointed with the condition snd cleanliness of the place , the service was good , the food very average. Returned again on a friday evening, we had pre booked a table, it was busy upon arrival, waited at the bar for ages to get acknowledged, the table was not ready and dirty, we ordered 3 courses , the 2nd came first very quick but were left without cutlery, we the waited much longer for main to arrive and had no drink left , the staff were to busy to serve me. The food was not very nice, we left most of it . Will not be returning.

Really good food & drinks. Varied menu. Friendly service, really inviting atmosphere and good playlist! Highly recommended

Thought we'd support the local pub. Went for Sunday Lunch and the food was plentiful, even the small portion but unfortunately cold. Ordered puddings and there was a long wait for those to arrive and needed to reorder drinks. Shame. I think this pub could be great with a bit more organisation. It's very hard to keep pubs going these days, so I commend the effort. Need to iron out the consistency.

What a delightful evening learning how to make a door wreath. A lovely welcome with snow suddenly falling over the entrance ! The wreath making demonstration was informal with everything supplied to make and design your own wreath after tucking into a scrummy snack menu and mulled wine finishing off the evening with a mince pie ! Just perfect !!!

Very friendly and efficient staff, excellent choice of freshly cooked food at a very reasonable price, my go to place when in the area.

Very quick service and delicious food. 12 of us turned up together and it was no problem.... Prices ok too 👍

Wow what an amazing evening! We booked for five of us to have a wonderful Christmas eve dinner. Started by having a few drinks in the bar then a young waiter called James came to get us to tell us that our table was ready and then proceeded to service flawlessly all evening. The food was amazing the staff could not do enough to help. The entertainment was good fun, just what you want after a few drinks on Christmas Eve! And a big thank you to the manager Kelly who squeezed us in last minute, she does an amazing job there! Roll on next year!!

Excellent food, cake, coffee and service. Lovely to be able to support a local coffee shop, with all profits going to community projects.

Fantastic birthday lunch. Richard and Solanche greeted us when we arrived and made us feel very welcome. They were also great with our 21 month old and Solanche especially who helped keep her entertained while we ate. We both did the tasting menu and the food was perfect. Richard and Sam came out and gave us very helpful explanations of each course. Overall it was the perfect birthday lunch and we will certainly be visiting again when we are in the area

We love the Buck at paythorne, Excellent meals,good choice of menu,Rachel and Steve and there staff are so friendly and welcoming.Dog friendly, disabled toilets,roaring fire in winter.Friendly atmosphere.

This little restaurant has such a good atmosphere, the staff are so kind and chilled back as well as they also interact with you. Great food and don't forget the cake. ;) definitely going to go again!

Good value, large portions (there was nothing small about the small cod and small chips), freshly cooked, hot, friendly service, lots of seating inside and out.

4th visit since coming under the new management, unlikely to return, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. This time just required chips. One other person in the shop, from ordering it took 18 minutes to get the chips. The chips were different (either different potatoes or different oil) and not great. It's such a shame as previously, and for many years it was the best chip shop for miles and we were regular visitors for the fish and chips, kebabs and nuggets, I also used to have their veggie burgers or fishcakes, and all of it was good. We used to have to queue up - the queue is noticeably absent compared to how it used to be too, but you still didn't have to wait that long for your food even at their busiest times. Sad to say that we are unlikely to visit for a 5th time. Sorry.
