Reliably good chippie with good range and gf options.

After reading good reviews of Y Pass fish and chips we decided to give them a try while on holiday and wasn't disappointed. We ordered large cod and chips and the cod was the biggest piece of cod we have ever had and it delicious, the fish was way larger than a dinner plate! All fish are cooked to order and the chips were lovely as well and actually it would of been better to had a small portion of chips as we couldn't them all The service was friendly and very customer focussed which is rare to find these days. Give them a try if you love good classic fish and chips like we used to know. DM Norfolk

Popped into Ledbury thought I'd try the YPass fish and chip shop just off the High Street. Absolutely brilliant Fish and Chips, curry sauce was great to. Good thick piece of Haddock with crispy batter, and chips cooked just right. Good size portions of fish and chips, will definitely be coming back here soon.

Visiting Ledbury for 2 nights, and wanted an affordable takeaway, close to accommodation… Worth the wait! Had to wait around 10 minutes for the food (this is stated by signs on the wall), but, absolutely no problem with how good the standard of fish and chips were! Not just your standard chippy… Exceptional!

Delicious fish and chips. We ate in as always. The family that run this establishment have a lovely, calm demeanour and make everyone feel very welcome. The food is cooked to order with love and pride. Our favourite fish and chips in Herefordshire.

It’s somewhat hidden away up an alleyway but if you look for the sign it’s easy enough. Great food, all freshly cooked. Give yourself time to wait, it’s worth it!

My wife and I sat in for tea, with our Labrador under the table. We had haddock and chips and sausage and chips. Both of us really enjoyed the food. Freshly cooked, staff very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

It is so refreshing to be greeted with smiles all round and greetings even before reaching the counter. The staff are a delight and are clearly concerned to make your meal the best they can and for a very reasonable price. They deserve to do well and we shall certainly be back for more tasty food. 😋😋

Clean and friendly chip shop, good food and plenty of seating.

I have just had takeaway Haddock and chips washed down with a can of their finest RIO and I can honestly say this is a fantastic chippy. Haddock cooked fresh to order had a beautiful light crispy batter and the haddock tastes terrifically fresh. Chips are tasty, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Rio is just Rio. But, what is most amazing is that everything was still as it should be even after a fifteen minute car journey ! Nothing soggy or sweaty. The five to ten minute cooking time is well worth the wait in the comfortable restaurant area. Staff are delightful and very friendly. Well done Y-Pass ! You have restored my faith in the ability of the great British chippy to deliver perfectly cooked, fresh tasting takeaway food that will also survive the journey home !

Good food, pots of tea, cups with sauces, inside and out side eating, we had small portions which was plenty. Toilets very clean too.

I've been motivated to write a review having made three visits to Y-Pass. The food served is absolutely outstanding - All cooked freshly to order (bear that in mind if you are in a rush!) and well worth the small extra wait. I'm a batter fan, and one of the bench marks for me of a good chippy is their batter - The fish and battered Jumbo sausages I have tried had excellent crispy knobbly batter with very little oiliness. Chips are fantastic too. There are other good chip shops in Ledbury, but with the fairly recent new owners it is the best for sure. Other points to note - The chip shop has several tables so you can eat in (or sit down while you wait!) - And it is cash only.

We stopped here for lunch while out cycling. The fish and chips were cooked to order( he suggested we go for a walk and return in 10 minutes), and were delicious. They were quite happy to cook one portion gluten free and also provided gluten free ketchup.

Finding it very handy for a quick meal before going to the theatre, we were pleasantly surprised to find how good this was. We had scampi with cheesy chips and were well pleased with the meal - fresh, crisp and not too greasy. We also had tea and it came in a big china pot with china cups and saucers! All too often tea in the chain cafes involves fishing a teabag out of a cardboard cup , so full marks for presentation here.

I’d heard that it was under new management & gave it a go having been disappointed the last time I was there. Absolutely the best fish & chips I’ve had in a long time. Cooked to order, light crispy batter, perfectly cooked chips & an incredible curry sauce. I enjoyed every bite, as did the rest of the family. The owners clearly care about the food they produce have set a new standard of excellence in Ledbury. I’ll be back!

Tried Y Pass for take away again after hearing it had changed hands for the second time in as many years and so glad I did. The best, cooked to order, fish & chips I’ve had in a very long time. Light, crisp, batter on a huge piece of cod, perfectly cooked chips & a curry sauce is to die for. The owners are very friendly & welcoming & take pride in the food they prepare. I’ll certainly be back as its head & shoulders above the other fish & chip places in Ledbury.

I've come here twice since recently moving to Ledbury and the staff were friendly and let me bring my dog in.Thanks I've tried the Chickened out burger and meat free nuggets and both were really well cooked, the chips are also lovely and among the best chips I've tried. The food is also cooked to order, so is fresh and always piping hot.

Popped in yesterday after a year away. Was not disappointed and was just as good as we remembered. Cod & chips cooked freshly to order and served piping hot. If you're avoiding carbs then a large portion of cod should mean that you won't need the chips. Batter was superb and the cod white & flaky. Well worth seeking out (it's up a narrow lane off the high street), you won't be disappointed.

I recently had a mini fish and chip supper as a treat after a long day at work. The fish was a really big size in an amazingly light batter. The chips were some of the best I have ever had from a chippy and plenty of them. I really enjoyed my supper with nothing left for my poor doggies who usually get my leftovers. Cannot recommend highly enough. You do have to wait as they cook everything fresh but it is well worth the wait.

So much improvement from last visit.Cod was excellent with crispy batter, chips were okish but need a little work other wise very good.It is expensive bit so is everywhere else.Will definitely call again.New owners have made a difference.

Popped into this chippy on spec as we didn't really fancy what was on offer at the other bars/hotels/restaurants in the area, and boy, what a find. The best fish & chips that I've had since I visited the Ilfracombe Fryer over ten years ago. The "small" cod was as big as most large cod portions that I've had over the years, and the large cod was enormous, so much so that I couldn't finish my chips - and they were only a half portion as the staff kindly split our chip portion for us. Crispy batter, no grease to be tasted and white flaky cod, absolutely superb. The chips were also great, again, not at all greasy and extremely tasty. We'll be back.

We have always loved this hidden gem and were surprised when we arrived today to find new owners, they'd only been there since last Thursday. Having said that I cannot fault them on the food, the service or the price. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and super polite, even to a rather odd acting, impolite customer who arrived whilst we were eating. We look for two things when eating out - dog friendly and gluten free. Y PASS has both of these. It is hidden away up a small alley off the main street and may not be the largest premises in world but the food is good and the staff both friendly and helpful. Definitely worth another visit and will recommend to others.

We have sampled many a fish and chip shop on our travels around the UK, including the excellent one in Lerwick, Shetland and think we may have found the best one yet. Ledbury is such a lovely little town, and it feels like discovering a wonderful secret place as you head through the alley, past the repair shop and up to Y-Pass (no jokes about toilet paper please) Was VERY pleasantly surprised they offered the vegan style fish made from banana blossom and was eager to try it. It was delicious, and both it and the wonderful chips were cooked in separate oil for us too (which is important for many vegans). The staff were very friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for them to go the extra mile for our supper. Highly recommended!

We were looking for an afternoon meal after a busy day, having wandered past a few establishments which were either expensive or lacked choice we came across a sign for the Y-Pass.The staff were really helpful and moved some tables for us so that 6 of us could site together in a snug next to the main cafe.We ordered at our table, and asked for a mixture of fish and chips, burgers, chicken nuggets, and some drinks,All the food arrived quickly (freshly made) and was really very good. Clean plates all round and not expensive either.Definitely recommend!

Down a secret passageway, along some fine tudor timbered buildings in Ledbury is Y Pass. It is well worth looking for as the food is excellent. It has a retro cafe and is full of character. The staff are very friendly too. I'd recommend the cod and chips and also their Irish curry.

Chips were average, or perhaps slightly above, but the woman serving was the most miserable person I've ever come across in a chippy.

It is only a small place and not the smartest but you can eat in or have take away, we chose to eat in the fish was beautiful and the chips were great exactly what you want, with good prices as well.

In my humble opinion, definitely the best place for fish and chips in Ledbury - and you can sit in and gawp in wonder at their extensive collection of salt & pepper containers.

The fish and chips are delicious and fresh. There are also added extras, mushy peas, onion rings,baked beans etc. If any of the sizes and varieties of fish are not to your taste, there are also pies, sausages etc.

We had family staying for a holiday and instead of cooking we bought in fish and chips which were absolutely delicious!If there is a down side it is that they only take cash, so if your are buying meals for 6 persons it can be quite pricey.

Always us this chip shop when in Ledbury and have done for the last 40 years you can't beat it, although it changed hands several years ago and and was excellent before the quality has stayed the same. Keep it up your a hard one to beat.
