Been threatening to visit for the pizza night for a few weeks and finally made. Well worth the effort. Really friendly staff, good choice of pizzas and 2-for-1 offer on, what's not to like? We opted to share a starter and struggled to finish the pizza. nice beer/wine added to the great time. Well worth a visit, though I understand pizza night is limited to Thursdays only. Other offers available for different nights. Check their website.

Had a lovely lunch with family. 3 people had the turkey dinner, it was one of the best I’d had everything was cooked to perfection. The fish stew was also very good as well, as was the venison. Would highly recommend this lovely pub, service was great also.

Delicious Sunday roast. Friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. We went there for a Sunday roast. My husband had the pork with crackly crackling. My daughter hoped for a vegetarian roast but that wasn’t available. We had extra roast potatoes and vegetables. The potatoes were delicious. So was the apple sauce and Yorkshire pud. Delicious homemade apple crumble too!

We went here for 2 nights when we stayed in a cottage over the road.I recommend you book as they get busy most nights and in the week they have different offers on that make your evening meal very good value for money.the meals we had both nights were both very nice and they also had clarksons hawkstone lager on draft which was delicious. The pub is community owned by the villagers themselves.the young man behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming as was the manageres Gaby this place is a hidden gem in a charming village if ur around pay the a visit you won’t regret it. Had a really delicious lunch at the Red Lion today. Everything was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The menu has standards and more unusual dishes. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and portion sizes. Service was very efficient, cheerful and friendly. Help was offered, without fuss, with my wheelchair and we were seated at a table where I was very comfortable - sadly, this treatment cannot be taken for granted in chains with far higher staff and management resources. We also enjoyed the peaceful feel of the dining room without machines or ambient music. Really a lovely, characterful pub with very committed people running it.

Wonderful people, couldn’t do enough for us. Enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch - the crackling on the pork was ‘to die for’. I only have one problem, pork obviously does not come with Yorkshire puds. Requested them for three of us. Was told they would cost £1 each which we were willing to pay !! But we’re charged £1.50 each on the bill. Just thought that was a little OTT. However we WILL be back as we have been told we have to try your ham egg and chips.

Booked a table on a Friday evening and had a really great meal. The food is really rather good and the chef is clearly skilled and takes care over ingredients and presentation. It’s in the middle of nowhere, so the chance of passing are remote but I’d definitely recommend seeking it out if in the area. What’s more, it’s a community pub, repatriated from Greene King we were told, made the food taste even better. Keep up the good work.

This is the second time we’ve visited this pub and we’ve had the same experience both times. It’s in a remote location so you need to make a special journey here, rather than be passing by. We visited on a Saturday evening. I doubt if they had twenty customers. I asked if we could eat only to be told that they were fully booked for food. The same on both occasions. Being a nice summer’s evening there were very few people inside. On walking outside to the very nice garden there were a few people eating but not many at all. I will admit to being a little nonplussed. We’re being asked to support the hospitality industry but they need to meet us half way. This is a lovely pub but they are letting themselves down and I’ll be surprised if they survive if they don’t change their business model. I doubt we’ll be back for a third time. Shame really…..

Visited for lunch. This pub is amazing. For a small village pub the menu is really exceptional. Dishes enjoyed included, roast partridge, roast turkey, burgers (venison as well as beef) and ham egg and chips. Every main course was first class. Quality produce combined with excellent cooking and presentation makes this place stand out from the crowd. Our waitresses were efficient as well as friendly. The dessert menu is fantastic, full of tempting treats!! Pineapple carpaccio is heavenly, chocolate fondant divine, baked passionfruit creme delightful, and apple tarte tatin is truly exquisite. We had a family lunch together at this super pub in Northmoor. It was suitably Covid-safe, principally because we were outside under cover, and yet warmed by a gas heater in the centre of the eating area. The staff were welcoming and friendly and led us to our reserved table without delay. We ordered from both the regular menu and the specials board. the food came promptly and was beautifully served. All five of us enjoyed what we had: two fish and chips (one from the child's menu), and one burger from the regular menu; and a whole grilled sole, and mackerel fillets with rhubarb and almonds from the specials board. All well cooked and all very good indeed. No complaints. The dessert menu was more limited, but we strongly recommend the carpaccio of pineapple which to of us had from the specials board, and the home made ice creams, which also featured in a terrific coffee affogato.

We stayed in the three shepherds huts recently and had a brilliant time. The huts were cosy, clean and had everything we needed for the weekend including blankets, a map with a couple of local walks and lots more storage space and a more powerful shower than expected! Everything was easy and relaxing, everyone we spoke to was lovely, thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive. We ended up eating every meal from the pub because the food was so good. We spent a happy Saturday lunch here in amiable conversation with village regulars. It delivers on the promise - open fire, burner, wood, stone: all the right rural pub stuff in the right order. The sausage and mash was genuinely special, and Dr D's sandwich to her refined taste. My refined taste in beer was entirely satisfied by a pint of Brakspear's bitter, but I could have chosen another local brew. This one has the authenticity to justify a detour; it feels off the beaten rack, but really isn't hard to find, and by the way feels covid-secure.

Trying to find a place to stay in this area was a little tricky so I was lucky that the Red Lion has just started a B&B; with three beautiful little shepard's huts. Wonderfully located near the chicken run and orchard the huts overlook the church and nearby greenery. Each one has everything you need skilfully put together: a big, soft bed to the left, with places to charge your phone and store your book as well as a television at the end; the living space has a comfy sofa and fluffy rug as well as mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities; the bathroom is remarkably spacious, with a big shower and plenty of towels and hot water. That evening we ate in the pub: fresh caesar salad with grilled chicken and decadent chocolate fondant with coffee and chocolate sauce, served by a charming girl called Charlotte who told us all about the sustainability of the shepard's huts and the community funding that had saved the pub from closure. After a snug night's sleep (with the rain beating down on the roof) we were brought breakfast by our landlady, Lisa: home made yogurt and fresh fruit compote, juice, coffee and warm pastries. No better way to start the day!

Just returned from a most delicious Sunday Lunch at The Red Lion Pub in Northmoor. Only a 20 min drive from both Abingdon and Witney and situated in a very pretty out of the way village. We had a table booked for midday for 6 adults, 2 children and a babe in a high chair. 2 of us were 1/2 an hour late and for a pub the size of the Red Lion it is always difficult when tables don’t arrive on time. The staff were so pleasant about our late arrival, efficiently took our late order and still made us feel very welcome. A great start. The lunch continued to get better and better, a delicious selection of starters to choose from, perfectly cooked fresh green asparagus dripping with butter and garnished with shaves of Parmesan, bubbling Welsh rabbit, tasty homemade Terrine were some of our choices. The Roast Beef was beyond excellent, pink and full of flavor, individual selection of fresh vegetables perfectly cooked along with roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pud. Delicious. We didn’t have desserts as we took a tray of birthday cupcakes which the staff graciously brought to the table with lit candles. The whole meal and ambiance couldn’t be faulted, keep it up Red Lion, what a great addition to our many pubs in this Oxford area!!!

Booked table for 7.30, seated at 7.10, asked for menu to peruse prior to ordering only to be told we couldn't have it until nearer 7.30??? I ordered liver and was informed it had to be well done, can't remember the waitresses justification for this. However, when it arrived well done was an under statement. Four pieces of meat so over cooked it was almost leather with a similar slab of bacon, served on a bed of greens (as stated on menu) not sure what the greens were as again so over cooked. Mashed potato inedible tasted like powdered instant potato, watery gravy with no onion. Partner ordered burger and chips, burger so overcooked it was dry, chips so overcooked potato had disappeared therefore really a bowl of batter. No condiments or sauces offered. When we complained on payment no apology or offer of recompense offered. Very disappointed as used to live in village and always enjoyed this pub.

We'd called into this pub without a booking on a Saturday lunch time and were lucky they could squeeze us in although they said it would be half an hour before we could see a menu. (There is another pub in this part of the world that does the same thing, which I don't get as surely if you see a menu you can at least decide what you want even if you can't be served for a while.) When we did get the menu it turned out it was just sandwiches and what was on the board anyway! I opted for the burger and my partner the Risotto of the day which was wild garlic and asparagus. I tried some of my partners Risotto and wish I'd had that because I'd never tasted one so good. My burger was great too though. We decided to have dessert - my partner the last piece of crumble and myself the rhubarb panacotta. Both were delicious. It's our third visit to this little gem of a pub and we will be back. Despite the wait for food in the chilly back room it was worth the wait.

This is a wonderful little pub that is off the beaten track, but providing food you might expect to find in a good city restaurant. Really friendly team, and also good beer - some brewed locally. It is a small and pretty popular place - so make sure you book if you want you eat. And don't go here if you want cheap pub grub. But just dropping in for a beer is a good too. It is not a 'volume' place - too small for that. So you can expect personal service. They are especially good at fish...

We were looking forward to our Sunday Roast at The Red Lion (August 2018) having read some good reviews and looked at the Sample Menues on the pubs website. The price of a roast was shown as £14.00. Whilst a little higher than others places we felt it was worth paying extra for a good meal. On arrival we discovered that the price was £16.50 each. The meal did not reach our expectations and was more than we wanted to pay. The Sample Menues are clearly out of date. Of course prices inevitable change. This is an unassuming little pub in Oxfordshire, which punches above its weight in terms of the quality of its food. Our lunch was really very good indeed, with lots of choice: a good menu ranging from good pub fayre to fancier menu ideas (with veggie dishes too).

We booked a table for two on Sunday and arrived at 1.35pm. We ordered 2 beef roasts which eventually arrived at 2.20pm. Beef was not tender, the gravy watery, the two large roast potatoes were unappertising, vegetables were not hot and poorly presented in a small bowl. The bill for two roasts came to £33.00 (excluding drinks). We did express our disapointment in the food and the delay. Apologies were offered and the delay put down to having a small kitchen. There were about 15 customers at the time of our visit.

Fantastic Pub, can not praise the service, drinks and food enough. We are lucky enough to live in a neighbouring village and had a lovely evening with superb food. Made to feel really welcome despite being very busy. This is very a popular pub so you MUST book. Thanks for a great evening 10/10 to all staff.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Red Lion the other evening. We received a friendly welcome and efficient service. The beer was well kept, the wine list well chosen (and our rose delicious!) while our food (sourced locally) was impressive. The attention paid to my lactose intolerance was excellent. Thanks for that, it was much appreciated.

Sadly this was probably our last trip to the Red Lion, but only because we are moving - the Red Lion remains the same, lovely service, lovely food and ales.

Who knew? We have driven past on several occasions because we live quite near. This week someone told us The Red Lion would be suitable for an anniversary dinner. Since it was a minor wedding anniversary (49th) we decided to risk the Red Lion and were utterly delighted. On arrival we thought we had made a mistake since there were a lot of men standing round the door with pints and so we assumed we must have the wrong place. Once inside there were several diners enjoying what looked like scrumptious food - and so it proved to be. We ate a crab starter followed by rump steak (served a choice of warm salad, sauce and chips - surely the best chunky chips!) and duck. And all at a very reasonable price.

Wish it was in our village. Lovely local pub, great for just a drink, or food, which is superb. I had a crab starter and a Duck main. Portion sizes are good and quality great. Finished with a strawberry parfait, which was perfect. We will be back soon.

A short walk from my B&B; (though not open on a Monday evening, or I would have two meals to write about.) A lovely pint of Loose Cannon and as tasty a portion of liver, bacon and mash as I can recall.

We were staying very near this lovely pub and it was highly recommended for supper. We booked and had a quiet table in the very attractive main area. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The menu was varied and looked very inviting, but that night the special was burger and a drink and it was too good an offer to miss! The burgers were very meaty and delicious and it was good to taste Brakespeare again! We had a very pleasant couple of hours and I indulged in a divine chocolate fondant pud - very yum.

Community owned, the Red Lion is a traditional old village pub with wooden beams, open fires, a piano (not sure if they ever use it!) and friendly, welcoming staff. There's a choice of four mainly local ales on offer. The menu is not huge, but does vary so if you visit regularly you won't find the same dishes each time, and the food is excellent if not cheap - expect to pay around the £mid-teens or slightly above for the main dishes. It's not exactly a gastro pub; for me that's a plus, but the freshly prepared food is certainly a grade above the standard for a village pub of this nature. I enjoyed a delicious roast duck breast dish served with an interesting mix of vegetables for £16.50. There is also a specials board which tends to focus more on pub classics (Fish & chips, Sausage & mash, etc.) and as such is slightly cheaper than the main menu. The pub also boasts a pleasant garden with an Aunt Sally pitch.

Going into this pub was like taking a step back in time. Open log fires and a curtain inside the front door to keep the cold out! It is very old and fairly small, only ten tables of varying sizes. I believe it is now community run, having previously been owned by the Greene King chain. Ian and Lisa were very welcoming.

Second visit and every bit as good as the first time which was excellent. This time for Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Great food and great service. It is well worth driving quite a way as we did and will doubtless do again. Thanks to all at the Red Lion for such a lovely time.

We had a very enjoyable lunch there today. The quality and quantity of food was very good and the staff friendly and attentive. There were three log fires keeping all customers nice and warm. My only two small negatives were: little choice for non red meat eaters, for example no chicken/turkey dish and we had to wait half an hour for our 1st course and the same again for the main course, which is why we didn't stay for deserts or tea/coffee. OK, the delay was due to customers eating at just about every table, confirming that the food is good, but there should have been more staff on duty to speed orders along more quickly.

Came for dinner on the recommendation of our AirBnb hosts. Glad we did! Food was definitely more than a cut above traditional pub food. Atmosphere was traditional but food was elevated. Recommend highly

We called in here while visiting the village to see if they did lunch. We were not disappointed and really hope we can go back soon. We'd only wanted something relatively light because we were out for a meal again in the evening. The lady that served us said the sandwiches were made with home made bread and came with chunky chips. So we opted for these. They really were a cut above your average pub sandwich and the bread was fresh tasting and delicious. A roaring fire (plus a wood burner) and welcoming front of house staff made this a lovely experience.

We are fortunate to live locally and come to the Red Lion often. The pub is charming and cosy, Lisa and Simon make a brilliant front of house team, and the food is outstanding. We have had some truly excellent meals recently - the venison loin and the halibut with chorizo and polenta chips have been particularly noteworthy. The menu is seasonal and much of the ingredients locally sourced or even homegrown. Pub classics are also always available (thankfully as the children would riot if they couldn't have Ian's home roasted ham, egg and chips!). Highly recommend. Would suggest booking at weekends as can get booked up

We called ahead to the pub as we needed a camper stopover close Brize Norton. The landlord Dave was incredibly helpful and we were able to make use of the ample flat car park at the back of the pub for the night we needed. The facilities in the pub are first class and service was excellent - Dave went above and beyond to make our stay an absolute pleasure. Staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming to us. We were lucky it was ‘vinyls night’ so were treated to some great music while we were having drinks in the bar. Highly recommended, I’m sure we will be back soon

First timer and the experience was five stars all the way. I had the meaty breakfast which was brilliant and fresh and loads to eat. My daughter had the avocado on toast with a beautiful poached egg. Again it was excellent. We loved the decor and vibe of the cafe too. Service was superb and it really is dog friendly too. You must visit.

Visited with a friend for a bit of a business meeting/dinner followed by an overnight stay. It was everything we could have asked for and Hattie, who looked after us on arrival and through the afternoon and evening, was a superb host. Dinner (and breakfast) was great - good choice on the menu and very tasty. Rooms were smallish but perfectly fine, beds comfortable and my room had a spacious bathroom. Overall, a great place for a night out or an overnight stay.
