As a loyal patron of the Puffin Rooms and a frequent visitor to the adjoining cigar shop, I have always appreciated the ambiance and quality these establishments offered. Unfortunately, my recent experience fell strikingly short of expectations due to significant changes in the staff. The experience began with an unexpectedly cold and unwelcoming reception from the door staff. Once inside, the service only worsened. The waitstaff exhibited a surprisingly poor attitude, marked by rudeness and a distinct lack of accountability when our drink orders were incorrect. There was a palpable sense from some staff members that they would rather be elsewhere, which was particularly evident in how one member addressed my wife. The small female staff member who served our table was unprofessional and displayed an alarming lack of respect when engaging with our party of four. It was abundantly clear that training and experience were lacking across the board, which greatly impacted our enjoyment of the evening. Having spent a considerable amount of money over the years at both the Puffin Rooms and the cigar shop, I expected a level of service that matched the reputation they had built. Unfortunately, this experience was enough to ensure that I will not return. I am deeply disappointed to see such a decline and will no longer trust this venue with my time or patronage.

I don’t get back home from up country often and it's a treat to go out for a proper pub dinner with family. We had a lovely Friday evening with excellent food, be aware it’s not waitress service and you order at the bar. Also it’s popular and it’s worth making a booking. We’d had two of the boneless BBQ beef, the fish cakes and the 1/2 chicken and ribs. All perfectly cooked and handsome serving sizes. This is proper Cornish cooking, simple and tasty food with Kittow’s the butcher quality meats. The chips were swapped for mash no problem. Stokes quality condiments if needed. All meals arrived at the same time, I couldn’t fault anything at all about our meal and we all had a lovely evening in a traditional real Cornish pub. The St Austell HSD was faultless too. The ladies liked their wine. Highly recommended for taste and value, the only thing missing was a real fire blazing in the hearth as it was a wet and windy evening! A fantastic chef who really knows what they’re doing, and efficient friendly service. All the staff should be recognised for doing a great job. The WH is highly recommended to one and all! Thank you and well done!

We were very disappointed with the food and waitress. 1. Wanted to order a vodka martini and was told I could only order their “special” which was a concoction of spices. When asked if I could just have vodka with a splash, I was told “no”. 2. The pizza oven wasn’t working which also included the garlic bread. 3. The food was served at volcanic heat. Literally bubbling, with steam rising a foot in the air. After waiting about 15 minutes to be eatable, we poured the lasagna on another plate and stirred for a few minutes. Unbelievably, the waitress told us it was correctly served. Way too many restaurants in Keswick to eat here.

Had the Harry Potter afternoon tea and it was so lovely! The decorations were for on theme and well thought out. The food was also very tasty but I especially loved the themed cakes. The cocktail (that was made alcohol free for me) was also amazing. Lastly, the service was immaculate so thank you!
