We went for Sunday lunch. There was Pork loin or Beef to choose from. We chose pork and it was lovely. There were 7 side vegetables, all beautifully cooked also Apple sauce and gravy. For desert there was a large choice. I chose the home made meringues with summer fruits and whipped cream. The meringues were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They were beautiful as they were not too sweet and the fruit and cream complemented the meringues very well. My husband chose the home made apple flan with ice cream and that was also very much enjoyed. The staff are very welcoming and we will certainly be back. Thank you.

Food was ok but the only vegetarian option available was a fake chicken breast that was hanging around in the freezer. Previous reviews said that booking was essential but we were the only ones eating there at 7.30 on a Friday evening. It was early May so maybe they don’t get busy yet and the full menu wasn’t available. Not really what we were expecting from the previous rave reviews.

A favourite of ours now for a number of years, we holiday in the area every year usually Oct/Nov, and have tried many eating places including hotels and restaurants. But this Country Inn is top of the list for a friendly pub, the local willing to engage in conversation with whoever you are. In the past years we have driven past the place and as many do the same have wondered what's the place like. Well for my our personal taste if I lived in the area or close by, without a doubt this would be my local. We both love pubs that keep their quaintness and identity as an old pub. We live in an area that this is almost a things of the past knowing most pub seem to think Bistro is the way, modernisation and change the place from serving real ales into a Prosecco Swilling Hooray Henry place! The national locations such as Marstons, Toby Inns Etc do a great job to drop in with the family and provide mostly good value unlike the Bistro places, arranging food for the patrons to get their Mobiles out taking selfies with their glasses raise picture of their Pork Belly that has helped what was once a really cheap cut that families could afford from the Butchers shop, well that gone. Places treat Belly Pork as a delicacy, what sad times we have evolved into. So The Country Inn, or The Penilwyndu Pub long my you exist over many pretenders, keep on doing what your good at, serving some of the best tasty food at competitive prices. This spring when were visit again we'll have to learn how to pronounce Penilwyndu. I cannot recommended The Penilwyndu Pub highly enough!

Excellent food. Steak was amazing and hubby rates the beers very highly (Camra member). Staff really friendly. They went out of their way to serve us food on a Monday, which is usually a food free day for them. Our complements to the chef.

We loved this pub and food so much we went 2 nights in a row. Food is excellent, go for the specials as freshly home cooked. It is also very good value. This a real pub, with a great atmosphere, but children are welcome in the restaurant. There is also a garden to sit out in. Highly recommend

We were staying a few miles from the Penllwyndu pub and wanted somewhere decent to eat in the evening. We had tried a few places in Cardigan that were noisy, expensive, had unimaginative or over-creative menus or were either not open at night or were fully booked. The Penllwyndu (we found it on Google Maps) was able to squeeze us in one night and we were bowled over by the atmosphere, the people, the beer and rhe food. So much so that we ate there three nights during our stay. Thank you so much for looking after us so well - we hope to be back sometime! xxx Paul & Julia

We turned up unannounced about 2pm on a Tuesday and checked to see if they would be able to do some food for our family of 3. The owner couldn’t have been more welcoming and recommended me a local ale when I said I’d like a fairly local bitter and it was very nice indeed. We were given a couple of specials and I went for the homemade beef casserole, my husband had the faggots and our little boy had kids fish fingers. Generous portions and wonderfully flavoursome food! Nothing was too much trouble and we genuinely loved it! All of the locals were friendly too! We will return as it was a great experience for us all. Thanks so much

So glad we called in here on our way back up towards Newquay after a day out down around Cardigan. Real locals pub with nice atmosphere and the food really good. We had some excellent Welsh steaks cooked so well by the landlord. Followed by a lovely toffee apple bread and butter pudding. A very pleasant and welcoming landlord with an equally lovely barmaid/waitress. Pub with an interesting history too with a lovely stained glass window in the entrance door from the car park. Well done and thank you 🙂 Just wish I could have had more than a shandy as real ales were on offer.

We called in to Penllwyndu on 21.02.2022 and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was of a really good quality - chilli, chicken curry and beef/mushroom casserole - but the stand out feature of this pub is the warmth and hospitality of the two gentlemen running the place, one in the kitchen and one in the bar. The regulars in the bar were a very friendly bunch, offering a warm welcome, but the landlords were fantastic. They made us feel very welcome, checked that everything was in order with our food and spent a few minutes chatting, passing the time of day and generally being lovely hosts This is not an easy place to find, especially in the dark, but I would highly recommend that you make the effort to do so as these two fine fellas deserve support

What a find. On a family holiday to the area we had to have a Sunday lunch. We did some research and this pub had good reviews. The pub is a bit spit & sawndust decor wise , but with food like we had … who cares !

We visit on a regular basis but, because of the 'bug' have missed it greatly. The joy of the Sunday lunch has made it worth the wait and the food seemed better than ever; but we were still champing at the bit!!. The staff are always friendly and professional and the service couldn't have been be quicker. As for those who find they are horrified at having the dessert menu 'scribbled on a scrap of paper,' ...it's because the landlord produces those delights on that day: maybe she should confine herself to a Beefeater, it sounds more her style.

As a visitor from Gloucestershire I've known this pub for some years. It is no exaggeration to say it is a very fine example of a traditional community pub of the best kind. The landlord is very friendly and welcoming and is well known for his culinary skills. Although I drink more wine than beer these days, I have it on good authority that he keeps his ales very well. The cosy bar area is comfortable and welcoming, and the locals are a thoroughly sociable and likeable bunch. I'd go so far as to say this is one of the friendliest pubs I've ever been to - and, believe me, I've been to a good many! I make a special point of calling in whenever staying in Ceredigion or Pembrokeshire and I'm always made very welcome. I strongly recommend the Penllwyndu, which is a rare gem to be treasured.

This is a classic country pub with a classic atmosphere. Peace and quiet reign (unless it's a music night) and good beer and cider is served. The Sunday lunches are delicious: a generous portion of meat served with a tremendous selection of fresh veg. Everything is piping hot and no annoying wait: no complaints! The sandwiches are eminently sensible too! A sandwich is just what you get... not a plateful of chips, coleslaw, salad or other 'padding', et al...and it's priced accordingly. Thank you landlord!Recommend getting there early on Sundays because the car park fills up quickly.

We had Sunday lunch. Family of 4 (2 teenagers). The food was lovely. The atmosphere was brilliant and the views spectacular. The fire was burning when we arrived and the whole feel was friendly and cosy. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. They haven't spent lots of money making it trendy and niche, so it still has a lovely local pub feel about it and they deliver good food and plenty of it. The best thing for us is that one member of the family is Coeliac and they knew exactly how to cater for him, right down to the gluten free gravy. Thank you so much for making us so welcome, we waddled out the door and I still think about my apple pie.

It's an interesting place - basically felt like somebody's living room!! The options for Sunday lunch were Turkey or Beef - but it was well prepared and tasted really nice. Needed an informal place to eat after a long drive and this typical welsh pub was close by and had some good reviews. Although on a minor B road, was easy enough to find. The car park is quite small around behind the pub.Welcome was good and food was on offer although we were only people eating.Unusual choice of food - we both had whitebait to start - deep fried in batter with a chilli sauce. It was tasty and was served with salad. My wife then had the faggots from the specials board and I had chicken stuffed with stilton cheese. The faggots were very good while the chicken was ok.Beer was on draught and well kept. All in all just about what we were hoped for. Nice well run pub
