I only had 20 minutes between bus and train and the staff were happy to serve me a delicious soup and that with a smile! Lovely attentive service in an amazing vintage venue which alone would be worth a visit. The shop looked great, too. Very grateful to the railway employee who sold me my ticket and recommended the place! Such a pleasant and surprising find!

Found this hidden treasure by chance and what a find it was! Lovely friendly staff and food great too. We had a lovely relaxed lunch of beautiful homemade asparagus soup and shared the anti pasti platter. Free refills on filter coffee a bonus too. Can’t wait to come back - without the car next time so we can have a little tipple or two.

We decided to have lunch in Smithies on the spur of the moment. The only problem we had was on deciding what to have from the menu. I eventually decided on the ploughman’s with my wife having a panini. Both were really good with being able to pick a cheese of my choice from the deli a really nice touch. Everything was fresh , good quality and tasty. The waitress who served us was very efficient and polite. We finished off our meal with lovely lemon cannoli which melted in the mouth. Definitely a place we will revisit when in Arbroath.

This place is superb. It’s a gem that you might not expect to find in that part of Arbroath. There is a very large selection of cheeses and gins (including Smithie’s own Arbroath made gin) and there is always someone on hand to talk you through the detail. The staff are always incredibly polite and well led which means it’s always a really nice atmosphere. I’m a big fan of the ploughman’s and ask the staff to choose the cheese. The soup is always an absolute bargain too!

We met a friend who recommended Smithies Coffee Shop to us, and we are so glad he did. On entering the shop/cafe, we were taken aback by the vast selection of Cheeses and Gins. We sat down to order our coffee, and what a selection there was on the menu of Coffees, Sandwiches, Baguettes and Paninis, also home baking. We ordered 2 Lattes, one Fruit Scone with Jam & Butter and one piece of Fruit Loaf & Butter. Everything was very good. The small cafe got very busy, but at no time was there any pressure on you to hurry up. The deli, itself was exceptionally busy, as expected at this time year.

Conveniently situated across from the Railway Station, Smithies is an attractive Deli and traditional tea room in what was a former Lipton's shop and still has the beautiful original tiling on the walls, along with some quirky decor. The staff are delightful and the food delicious (the wine's not bad either!) and gluten-free and veggie options are available.

A refreshing small delicatessan/cafe. Were looking for somewhere for a coffee on a saturday afternoon. Decided to have a bite to eat, my oat cakes and selection of 3 cheeses was very good. However, my husband ordered a prawn sandwich on brown bread, a large white roll arrived with prawns on. He was hungry so didn't complain but I would have done. Having visited pretty much a minimum of once a week - a group of 6 - I can confirm that the amazing service from the lovely, hard working staff, the deliciously, mouth watering good food and the comfortable friendly atmosphere is a top standard constant! The soup is always delicious, the cakes are to die for, fantastic cheese and booze selection and the staff are so accommodating with any dietary needs (even if you're a dairy free, pescetarian who doesn't like spicy food and demands tomatoes on the side of their plate!)I will 100% be back to visit, repeatedly!

I chose a pancake ( staff pointed out that it wasn't made by them but the scones were) It was lovely and so was the jam. Before I left couldn't resist buying smoked cheese from Deli. Staff informed me that they also do Themed Evenings and as they have a licence, alcohol can be purchased and cocktails at these events. Smithies deserve every success as they work very hard to cater well for all their customers. Will definitely be back!

After spotting the greatest little board outside the coffeeshop I had to pop in for a cup of tea. Wide selection of tea's of which I had the peppermint which came in a generously sized teapot, especially for £1.40 The only thing that I noticed when I first walked in was the overwhelming smell of cheese, but of course it is a delicatessen so it will undoubtedly smell of cheese. I for one just am not a big cheese fan so it didn't sit to well with me. I did however get a small love heart chocolate with my cup of tea and with it being valentines day and all it was rather sweet. Oh and one last point would be that there was no radio or music on which left it rather eerily quiet.Apart from the quiet and smell of cheese it was a lovely experience!

Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.
