didnt stay at the rooms, dined in the restaurant. Small but very well decorated place - loved the bathrooms too. Tasting menu is absolutely amazing - the cauliflower veloute was the surprise standout of the evening. Haggis bon bons were also delicious! As was the salmon course. Everything was delicious! Great service too - Maria was a great host. Loved the little touch of leaving the tasting menu near your table so you could follow it. Hope to be back next time we are up in Scotland.

This place gets great reviews for a reason. We had a spectacular and delicious nine-course tasting menu, every bit of which was memorably lovely. The greeting is warm, friendly and personal, and the courses were presented and talked about with knowledge and passion. The hors d’oeuvre were an excellent start - warm, freshly baked sesame biscuits topped with a gentle Parmesan cream and beautiful wee haggis croquettes that melted in the mouth. Twice-baked cheese soufflé with Tobermory cheddar was just awesome, the lightness of the soufflé balancing the strength of the cheddar and that exquisite ‘cooked cheese’ umami around the top of the soufflé. They were just the start. The rest of the menu followed suite, every course a winner. Really interesting and delicious combinations of flavour and texture that leave your appetite and anticipation as sharp just before the dessert and the petite-fours as they were before the starters. A nice selection of well-kept and chosen wines to match all budgets and tastes and both Chef and Maitre D’ (also the owner), were lovely people to chat with. If you’re in Angus or Dundee (and if you’re not, why not?) get yourself booked in here. You will eat well and relish the fact that you did.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and from the moment we were greeted by Maria, we knew that we had made the right decision. The Thistle room is beautiful and very comfortable. We also booked into the restaurant and had the best meal ever, it was a 7 course taster menu, served by Gary who is a Michelin star chef, who came to our table and all the other tables serving the food and explained everything.

A faultless performance. Dinner is exactly the food I want to eat yet refined as well. Twice baked cheese soufflé was a stand out dish as was the lemon tart. It takes real skill to deliver textbook classic dishes. Two people deliver everything and they do it meticulously. Very comfortable room for the night and a good breakfast. A real one off: can’t way to go back.

You won’t be disappointed to spend an evening at this restaurant. Arguably the best food we’ve ever had, with a special touch with each course being introduced and detailed by the chef. The accompanying wine list wasn’t extensive which is a plus. Restaurants like Gordon’s are sadly few and far between so do support them otherwise they’ll disappear and that’s a crime

We had a really great evening at Gordons. Gerry's dishes and Maria's service were simply wonderful! Our favorites from the tasting menu: Beef (braised beef cheeks) and Lemon (combination of strawberry/yoghurt/lemon). I can't remember ever having a better dessert!

We had dinner here two weeks ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The food was amazing. Every course was so tasty. There were items on some courses, I knew I did not like them but I trusted the chef and wow. They were some of my favourite parts of the dish. Service was lovely, each course explained beautifully to us. And our every need attended too. If you are thinking about booking here then you definitely should, you won't be disappointed. We stayed in the Thistle Room at the front of the property. It was comfortable and well appointed and the bathroom was huge. The power shower was up there with the best. Dinner was the tasting menu (see photo). My two favourite courses were the Salmon and the Deer. Both cooked and presented perfectly. There is an impressive wine list with good choices for every pocket and palette. Breakfast was served quickly and was piping hot, the black pudding was delicious. We are lucky Gordon's is an hour from home, but it is definitely worth making a longer trip to dine here. It can only be a matter of time before Chef Garry is awarded a star surely!

The only Michelin restaurant between Dundee & Aberdeen! This restaurant with rooms has been around for 40 years or so, I am just astonished that we have not come across it before. The Saturday night we were there, there were 12 dinners in what is essentially a converted house. The dinner (and breakfast) was excellent. There is no choice on the food, as there is just one tasting menu; but what a menu. The wine list was extensive, so we left it to the server/owner choose some excellent wines.

Another Phenomenal Visit to Gordon's In 2016, my husband and I traveled to Scotland for the 1st time and by happenstance ended up booking a couple nights at Gordon’s Restaurant with Rooms in Inverkeilor. We were completely WOWED by our stay. Host Maria’s and Chef Garry’s exceptional food, hospitality and unpretentious warmth created one of the most surprising and memorable experiences of that trip, and some of the best meals we have ever eaten. Fast forward some 7 years later to celebrate some life milestones, we organized a return trip with our adult children to the UK, with the expressed goal of sharing Gordon’s with them. Our 2nd visit was as incomparably superb as the first — from Maria’s personal welcome and perfect bartending to Garry’s delectable Scottish-themed tasting menu. Garry’s creativity elevates ordinary ingredients to unique and artfully presented culinary delights. It is even more impressive when one learns that Garry conceives and creates all of the food himself, from delicious appetizers, home-baked bread, mains all the way to the dessert. It is no wonder that Gordon's has earned multiple culinary accolades, and continues to draw repeat customers (including from far away US) year after year. The inn's rooms offer an oasis of comfort, beautifully appointed in tartan decor, and allow one to enjoy dining with the convenience of a walk to one’s room afterwards. It’s a good value too as perfect Scottish breakfast choices are included with one’s overnight stay. Maria and Garry treat their guests like family, and we are already thinking of our next visit. We wholeheartedly recommend booking an experience at Gordon's for anyone visiting this charming rural area between Scotland's East coast cities – or as a destination in and of itself. As others have commented, you will not regret it!

Found this hidden gem in Inverkeillor via a recommendation from friends. Having eaten in all but 2 of the Michelin starred restaurants in Scotland, chef Garry's tasting menu is at least on a par with Martin Wishart & Tom Kitchin and not far off Andrew Fairlie, for sure ahead of some of the newer guys in Scottish Michelin guide. Many of the dishes on his tasting menu just sublime, particularly the duck mousse and salmon, both were so well balanced, well done! Had some fantastic wine served by Maria to accompany the food in a really nice atmosphere, what a wonderful night. I'd heartily recommend this restaurant as one of the very best places to dine in Scotland. Will definitely be back.

Outstanding family run restaurant with rooms. We visited on the strength of all the other 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor. The whole establishment is beautifully interior designed with lots of classy touches. We stayed overnight Courtyard Suite that is separate from the main building and a short walk over the car park to the restaurant. Maria the host is impeccable straight from the start and makes you feel at home. The restaurant is cosy with only six tables and has lovely atmosphere with calm Jazz music playing. Then the food...WOW! Chef Garry who is Marias son cooked easily one of the finest dinners we have had in Scotland from the Beetroot & Horseradish Canape, Pea Veloute with Bacon and Parmesan Curd, Whipped Duck Liver Mousse with Vanilla Cherry, Salmon Tartare with Smoked Mussel, Lamb with the most amazing Black Pudding Puree then the two outstanding desserts of Cluizel Chocolate Cremeux with Pistachio Ice Cream and then the lightest freshest Mango Iced Parfait with Crisp Meringue and acidity of Passion Fruit. We ordered coffee to finish and the Chocolate Caramel truffles served with it were unbelievable! Wines are also excellent and very reasonably priced for an establishment of this sort. Breakfast in morning again first class. The restaurant holds 3AA Rosettes for culinary excellence and rumours that a MICHELIN Star is heading soon. We can not recommend Gordon's highly enough... Go go go!

Leaving my first ever Tripadvisor review because I wanted to share how great this place is, and I went there because of the great Tripadvisor reviews. Booked for dinner and stayed over (in the spacious and beautiful Thistle room). Maria is a fantastic host, from the initial contact, through a cordial dinner and delicious breakfast. Garry's tasting menu was superb. First-class, astonishing dishes, served in a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was similarly memorable. Quality ingredients expertly prepared. Forget tasteless crumbly black pudding or over-fatty sausages. Each component of the Scottish breakfast was perfection. All of this presented in a classy, comfortable dining room. As the website says, this place is 'tucked away' but I would heartily recommend looking for it. Thanks again to our terrific hosts.

This was our second visit to Gordon’s Restaurant with Rooms and we were a wee bit nervous that it wouldn’t be as good as the first time we visited (about 5 years ago), when we had the most delicious meal. We needn’t have worried! We were welcomed by the lovely Maria and shown our rooms - very stylish and comfortable. We went for dinner around 7.30pm. Every course we had was absolutely amazing - and Chef Garry easily catered for gluten free hubbie and cheese hater sister. The first meal we had here was one of the most memorable and tasty we’ve ever had (and we like eating out). This second meal was easily up there as another one we won’t ever forget. We’ve already decided to go back again in December. Service was friendly and relaxed. Chef Garry also helped with service. We had a laugh with Maria and really enjoyed our evening. We had a good sleep in a comfortable bed, followed by a very tasty breakfast the next day. If you’re even thinking of booking this restaurant, just do it. You won’t regret it.

We drove over an hour to get here for dinner after hearing about this place. Maria and her husband, Gordon, opened this fine restaurant in 1986. Their son Gary has taken over as head chef in recent years. This was an absolutely magnificent meal from start to finish. My favorite courses were the soup, the salmon and the strawberries, but all were incredible. Maria gave wine pairing suggestions and all were wonderful. The whole experience was just the finest meal experience we had in years and certainly so far this Scotland trip.

This is a gem of a place, a fantastic restaurant with very comfortable rooms. It's great news that this place had survived the pandemic downturn, which seems to have been possible thanks to the excellent stewardship of the family owner/proprietors. The food prepared by head chef Garry on the tasting menu took us on a journey of taste bud tingling flavours and aromas. Maria on front of house managed a fine balance of friendly engagement and knowledgeable advice on food and drink. The rooms are provided to a high specification and are extremely clean. The comfortable beds are a welcome retreat to follow an excellent meal. Breakfast continued the excellent service and food quality of dinner. This place is really worth a detour!

We have reviewed our overnight stay under the “hotel” section of TripAdvisor. We booked for the six course (plus coffee and petit fours) Hogmanay dinner and were welcomed in the restaurant with a glass of champagne and some canapés. The restaurant was fully booked with around 24 diners so the atmosphere was excellent. The delicious food was truly outstanding, amongst the best we have experienced anywhere in the world!! Although not particularly extensive, there was a good selection of wines at various prices, including a number of options by the glass.Maria, joint owner with her son Gary, looked after front of house single-handedly but was incredibly efficient in serving the tables, even having time to chat with the guests. They are an amazing team, as we discovered the following morning at breakfast that Gary runs the kitchen alone too!!Like dinner the previous evening, the breakfast was superb. We will definitely return!!

Four of us went to Gordon’s last Saturday. We have been there before a few times, but the price seems to go up every time we go there. The food is of a very high standard but there is very little choice: two starters to choose from, two mains to choose from and the choice of one pudding or cheese. I did find the main a problem as there was only one duck and one fish dish on the menu and I am not a fan of either. It does seem strange to not have a wider choice of mains, especially when the is no meat on the menu, just game and fish. There are few extras that are lovely touches: the bread is home baked, there is a velouté and you get a pre-dessert, dessert. You will be told, “the chef’s complimentary...” whatever, but at £69 a head and coffee extra I felt that nothing was really free.I would also prefer not to be asked if I want to leave a tip when handed the card machine. I am perfectly capable of deciding that myself, thank you.

We all enjoyed our meal but were shocked on later looking at our bill to see that coffee was £28 for the 4 of us. The cafetière only just managed 4 cups, so no seconds either. We did receive one homemade truffle and one fruit jelly each, nice, but nothing extra special, expensive or skilful.

Have been wanting to visit for a long time and Gordon's didn't disappoint. The quality of food is quite outstanding and well - you must visot if you are in the area and even if you are not!

We were hugely impressed by the fine dining experience at Gordon's Restaurant with Rooms. Maria (front of house) and Garry (chef) really know what they are doing. We were given a warm welcome when we arrived - we opted to stay over in one of their rooms. Decor throughout is exceedingly tasteful, modern and well cared for. The meal itself was superb from start to finish. We simply loved the food and how it was presented. Our only regret is that we have not gone sooner. Outstanding on every level.

We visited Gordon's Restaurant and Hotel in 2014 and gave it a five-star review then and we are very pleased to be able to do the same five years' later.

We had an overnight stay at Gordon's in July as a birthday treat following a random online search. We had a lovely evening and the food was out of this world from start to finish - even breakfast was worth getting up early on a Sunday for! It's definitely worth the trip.

The food was simply superb. Outstanding. The ambiance less so. It is a small restaurant with six tables, so unless the tables fill up, you feel exposed whispering to each other. The bill for the two of us came to a little over £200, and that was without a bottle of wine. For me, as good as the food was, the overall dining experience was not worth the £200. But then... the food was excellent.

I had decided to not only stay at Gordons but also eat in their restaurant and it was truly amazing and so well worth the the night in this small sleepy town. To date it was the best meal we had had in Scotland and well worth the accolades

What can I say. Taken for my 50th and was not let down. Each course was better than the previous one. Excellent staff and cooking.

My wife and I had dinner and stayed in the Thistle room as a treat for a rather larger than normal birthday than usual ! We couldn't have had a better experience anywhere. Maria was an amazing host from start to finish and Gary's food is just sublime in every way. What an amazing way to celebrate a birthday !

Worth a little journey. I come from Alyth which is one hour away, and find it still all right. By far the best in the whole region. Every detail is correct. Very relaxed and normal atmosphere.

Was a repeat visit and again fantastic. The whole event is special from drinks in the lounge through to the petit fours - special mention for the cheese souffle which I adore. Maria and Harry are the perfect hosts.

What a delight, pure quality and welcome without a trace of pretension. A balanced menu but not without choice, just a lovely meal. I had the Arbroath crab, a fantastic cauliflower veloute with smoked haddock, turbot to die for and was particularly delighted by a pre desert as well as desert(it was my birthday!) My husband was delighted with his beef dish. The cheese board is a must and the wine list had a really good range. We would recommend the rooms, but if they are full, Lunan Bay now has a campsite! Thank you both for a marvellous evening and excellent breakfast.

The front of house lady was a delight and could not be more helpful. The menu was imaginative and the resulting cooker to order food was truly wonderful. Yes you have to wait a while between courses but you must expect that as each course is freshly produced for each person. Wine very reasonabley costed and great quality. We were delighted with the overall experience and will be going back.

Have been to this restaurant many times now after being recommended it a few years ago. It is always an absolute pleasure and never fails to please, the food is a real joy to eat with a wine list to match, and service which is spot on. The rooms are always immaculate, inviting and very comfortable, in all a perfect place for an evening meal or a romantic weekend.

Wow. What a place. Intimate tasteful fine dining. Went for the Valentines meal with my lady, my mind was blown. Every dish was expertly presented and very very tasty in every bite. What a find, I will definitely return in the future. Salmon Tartare with smoked mussels, giving me a mouthful of dancing delight. Highly recommended.

Seven of us were recently treated to a special birthday dinner at Gordon’s, on a Monday, when the restaurant is usually closed, but they opened specially for us. Maria and Garry put together an excellent menu with a couple of minor tweaks to ensure that everyone was happy.

This was our 4th visit and we were rather disappointed to be honest. The service is excellent, lovely surroundings, but our table was right next to a log burner and we were far too hot all through the meal. The menu hadn’t really changed much other than it seems to have shrunk. Only 2 choices per course, which, given the hefty price tag , we felt was poor. Extensive wine list but again, very pricey. The food was lovely but it didn’t warrant the price... sorry.

My husband and I have wanted to visit for a while but just haven’t managed to fit it in. We finally went last night and wished we’d been before! To find an AA 3*** restaurant in rural Angus is very exciting. We don’t live far away but would certainly travel further to eat here.

Have to say this was probably the best meal we've ever had. Food is presented beautifully and the flavours were incredible. Menu choice is pretty restricted to choice of two dishes per course so we opted to choose one of each course to try everything. Starters were cheese souffle or salmon tartare both of which were superb. Mains were duck or rock turbot again both were brilliant.

On a holiday to Montrose and we sat in and ordered a fish supper, tasted lovely all freshly made. The best we have had in a long time. Would highly recommend the meal. Kai told us he is changing the name to Montrose fish and chips so look out for it on the High Street.

Reading all the review I was really looking forward to our visit here. The staff were friendly and the place clean and tidy. I wanted a hot quiche but was told there would be a 20 minute wait so we both had cock-a-leekie soup . There was chicken and bit of leek but this was a very thin plate of soup with no real substance the ratio of stock to the other ingredients was poor. I was also upset by the fact that they allow dogs in the cafe. There was one sitting with it's owner in the corner and it whined all the time we were there . The owner did not seem to be bothered by this .
