We found this restaurant on Google when we were visiting Edinburgh for an overnight stay before flying to Barcelona the next day. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious, we can highly recommend a visit for some great tasty food and very good service!

Charming staff, great ambiance and really wonderful food. We had a great evening here on the first night of holiday to Edinburgh, so much so, we returned for another excellent meal on the Sunday. Cadiz is definitely on our list for our next trip to Edinburgh and highly recommended.

I was worried after reading some reviews and we did book larger rooms. We could not have been happier with the hotel. Excellent position on a quite street. Room was large, secure, modern and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. We booked 2 rooms and one was a little bit smaller so I can understand why some comments about room size but we had 510 and it was a great size. We did not have breakfast first day as some reviews were not good. However after seeing the food on offer for £6 unlimited we had for following 2 mornings and were very happy with it. No kettle in room but complimentary tea and coffee available in bar so not a problem. Would recommend as a place to stay.

We just arrived in Edinburgh by train, tired and hungry. After climbing a very long set of stone stairs, with a lot of luggage, we arrived at The Southern Cross Cafe. Excellent food at reasonable prices and extraordinarily friendly service made it well worth the climb. Don’t miss the Toffee Sticky Pudding!

We were strolling the Royal Mike and looking for a light lunch. The historic Deacon’s House Cafe hit the spot! We initially were seated outside in the close adjacent to the cafe, but a table opened up inside and we chose to sit there. It was charming inside, with pictures relating the interesting story of Deacon Brodie on the walls. Apparently this was his workshop. The scones with clotted cream and jam were very good, as were the sandwiches. Prices were reasonable and service was good. Would definitely return.

We were having dinner with family and friends. The resturant was not crowed. SERVICE was spotty. The quality of food was poor The grouse was like "shoe leather" and way over cooked. The sea bass was cold and tough. We told them they needed to hire a new chef. When we complained we received a free desert as if this justified the 300 pound bill. Avoid this resturant. You are better off with pub food

My daughter and I saw the sign outside which said it was open to the public so we went in. We are both interested in tasting new whiskies and were looking forward to it. The man in reception/barman was not particularly welcoming and gave the impression he’d rather not have non-members in. He wasn’t very helpful either in advising our choices, so we guessed our way through the lists. The whiskies we chose were excellent, but no thanks to the staff. We’d give it top marks for the wide selection and low marks for the welcome.
