Nok's Kitchen On The Castle in Edinburgh, City of

The food looked delicious. It sounded great on the menu, too. But... my chicken noodles tasted mostly of ketchup! My wife's meal, on the other hand, was seasoned with Maggie's. If you like that... It was okay. But unfortunately, nothing more. Therefore, I can't recommend it. And the draft through the door was like a thunderstorm. Uncomfortable. A shame.

A fantastic little place near Victoria Street with a selection full of scrumptious Thai delights! Plenty of egg, vegetarian and vegan options too (Cho Chee Tofu and the Egg Fried Rice is a winner). Always love coming back here for a satisfying meal, especially after a long day :)

Good Thai food - like being back in Thailand

For our second evening in Edinburgh, we decided to try Thai. I did a lot of reading and Nok's Kitchen on the Castle was highly recommended! We walked over to make reservations for later in the evening and everybody was so nice in the restaurant. We worked up an appetite and came back for our dinner reservations. The restaurant is visually stunning. Lots to choose from on the menu, so we tried a little bit of everything. The appetizer was phenomenal. And the presentation was gorgeous. I did a green curry with chicken and it did not disappoint. My partner chose a beef dish and he ate every bite. We totally enjoyed our meal here.

Unfortunately we could be catered to due our dietary needs. It is always a shame when a restaurant can’t offer a vegan alternative.

Magnificent place, beautiful family meal, friendly staff

Went there 3 times in 3 days. So delicious. Even when they didn't have a table available, the friendly staff made sure that I get my Take Away in a few minutes. Loved the Pad Thai and Massaman Curry.

Horrible experience, entered into the restaurant dead 6 told us to sit in the said place. However, we asked to sit next to the corner window spot, and the next thing we heard was a mean tone, saying we could not sit there as 4 people. Additionally, as we ordered, we weren't as hungry, and we ordered 2 plates of food, and again, with the harsh tone telling us there is a minimum spending fee of £30! This place is an absolute scam with food. We ordered a curry dish, and it came with no rice, in which we order another bowl of white rice that added to the bill £5.

For some reason I had convinced myself I didn't like Thai Food, so despite many people recommending this place I was reluctant to go. Can't believe what I've been missing out on all these years! Genuinely one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh, clearly made to order. Service was impeccable and the general vibe and atmosphere was nice. Considering the location and quality of the food I think the price is reasonable. Maybe a bit on the expensive end. The portion sizes were perfect also. Overall, I would say this is a must try restaurant in Edinburgh. Perfect for any occasion really.

Don’t go to this place. The staff here were somehow very mean to us just because we didn’t have a reservation and asked if walk-in is okay. They kept us waited for sometime then said we only have 1hr to eat, also didn’t ask us for allergies when we ordered food. They even forgot the drinks we ordered. I wonder if this is how the owner of the place wants their customers to be treated. Such a rubbish attitude.

We always are on the hunt for Thai restaurants on our trips and Nok’s Kitchen exceeded our expectations. With a view of the old church now converted into an exhibition hall, food was very authentic both in taste and ingredients. The Pad Kra Pow Chicken was creatively well presented coming in a bell pepper. Portion was actually enough for 2 people. Embracing Scotland, the waitress was well experienced in offering recommendations on their nice selection of scotch whisky which was quite impressive. Only downside was the extra £2 charge for fish sauce which I don’t think was on the menu or mentioned when we ordered. Highly recommend informing customers of this charge beforehand cause £2 for a small serving of fish sauce seems excessive.

The food wasn’t the best we’ve had. While the service and ambiance were good, and the food arrived quickly, we felt the price didn’t quite match the quality. The portion of the Pad Kra Pao, which was approx. £16 without rice, was smaller than expected for the price, and the roasted duck (nearly £19 without rice) had a slightly burnt taste. It seems like the focus is more on the appearance of the dish rather than the portion size or balance of flavors.

Some of the BEST Thai food I've ever haf. Massaman tofu, duck salad, pineapple rice and dessert of coconut ice cream & black rice . Definitely make reservations, small restaurant. Prices were really reasonable. Portions were large, served steaming got.

Great dinner for our group, and they easily accommodated dietary restrictions - curry was outstanding.

Our second visit to Nok's Kitchen on the castle. We were so impressed with the food that it was the only place we wanted to go on our return visit to Edinburgh. Absolutely delicious, very welcoming staff and our 11 year old loved it too. Great selection on the menu, beautiful presentation and good pricing for a city centre restaurant. Will be going again!

Excellent food and service. Staff were very nice and provided quick, attentive service, I really enjoyed the meal we had and would happily come back here. The staff were friendly and asked if we would like the door shut as one of us had our coat on, which was nice. There were good suggestions about portion sizes from them and food arrived, hot and perfectly cooked in under 10 minutes! Very well cooked, seasoned perfectly and we were checked back in three times and asked if we’d liked drinks over the course of the mains, really nice staff and lovely interior. Worth a stop!

The food wasn't as good as the reviews suggested, and many of the dishes lacked flavour and were too sweet. In our group we ordered tom yum which tasted sub par, the green curry, which was too sweet but average, I order the pad thai and that was way too sweet and not very flavourful, unfortunately the worst pad thai I've had. The staff seemed ok though, but sadly the food wasn't to our expectation.

I've given 5 stars for atmosphere but to be honest we brought our own. Our small group was accommodated at short notice on a Saturday evening and we were delighted with the food and the service. It's all beautifully presented and I particularly enjoyed the Pad Ka Prao.

Came in by myself without booking and was accommodated. Staff were friendly and food served quickly, big portion of pad kra pao. They also let me charge my mobile, which I appreciated. I left happy and recommend it :)

Vivimos a una hora de distancia en tren, pero volvimos para una segunda estancia de una noche y visitar solo una semana después de la primera. El personal era amable y el restaurante tiene un agradable ambiente relajado. Los precios eran justos y la comida excelente. Definitivamente volveremos!

So glad we found Nok’s and visited with our friends. Lovely small restaurant. Super friendly staff. Food was just amazing. Very tasty, good sized portions and very well priced. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and when back in Edinburgh, will visit again for sure. Thanks Nok’s.

Location and atmosphere were spectacular! The food was phenomenally delicious and was served quickly! The staff were so polite and friendly. Plenty of veggie options as well, something that is very important to me.

Authentic Thai food in the city centre. Pad Thai is definitely a must, and some starters are tasty but a little bit expensive. I would recommend trying it!

After strolling down the Edinburgh castle and Victoria street, we chose to had lunch in Nok. The chicken with peanut sauce was a good pair with coconut rice. Rice noodles was good also. We shared the crispy calamari too. All served nice and hot.

For many of this was our first visit to Nok’s and can highly recommend. The food was amazing and the staff were very attentive. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening there and will definitely be back.

Not worth the money. Although the taste is good, the portion is too small and the price is too expensive. A few waiters have bad attitudes. I won’t recommend it to my friends until I try it again.

I had never heard of this restaurant until recently when a colleague visited with their partner. They told me it was recommended to them by a male from Thailand who swore it was one of the best Thai Restaurants in Edinburgh. Once I heard this, I just had to add it to that never ending list of new places to try. We checked the menu before going of course and we could not decide what to have. Once we got there and looked again we still could not decide. We ended up going with the waitress’ recommendation for starter as she suggested one fried and one steamed is best. •Pork Dumplings •Vegetable Spring Rolls For main I had to pick the green curry for comparison purposes. We swayed towards a noodle dish but instead chose the stir fried crispy chicken. Both were full of flavour and just exceeded our expectations. Again we asked the waitress for recommendations for sides and she suggested one rice one noodle. •Jasmine Rice •Egg Noodles Safe to say we only just managed to finish the mains and left a couple spoonfuls of rice and noodles. We were both stuffed after this meal and incredibly impressed!

What a let down.. don’t know where the rest of everyone has eaten Thai from around the world, but unfortunately this venue is a piss take .. Avoid.. 5 pcs of Small dried up tofu for £13 and 4 mouthfuls of dried, recooked sea bass for £20

We recently had dinner at Nok's Kitchen in Edinburgh, and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was perfectly seasoned, and the quality of the food exceeded our expectations. Compliments to the kitchen as this was without a doubt one of the best Thai meals we have ever had. However, we would also like to point out a small point of attention. Although the food was fantastic, we felt the service could have been a little friendlier. Some staff members lacked a smile, and that detracts somewhat from the overall experience. A warm appearance makes a restaurant visit that little bit extra special, and that was unfortunately sometimes lacking here. All in all, we'd love to come back for the delicious food, and we hope the hospitality is as great as the cuisine next time!

The food here is always very good, and the service is quite effective. We had duck curry, pad thai chicken, green curry prawn, and massaman vegetables. Everything was very rich in flavour. The atmosphere and the location of this restaurant are definitely a plus.

The Thai food is very authentic taste with good service from Thai staff. We ordered fish and prawn cake, Thai spicy soup with shrimp and stir fried chicken with cashew nuts. They are all delicious and reasonable price. Also, the desserts are very nice as well. Very recommend if you need real Thai food.

Nok's Kitchen Thai restaurant near Edinburgh Castle, I recommend it!" I recommend calling to reserve a table. It's very good because it's close to tourist attractions. It's full every day. The staff are good, the atmosphere is good, the food is delicious, Singha draft beer is available, and if you don't have Khao Gaenia, For mango, try black sticky rice and longan with 1 scoop of ice cream. Delicious, not too sweet, good. Real Thai taste near Edinburgh Castle, highly recommended

We arrived from the castle a family of seven, cold, tired and hungry. We couldn’t have had a better welcome. We were seated quickly and the staff were very kind. The food was excellent, spicy when you asked for it, fresh som tum and the house special nutty curry was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Thai food, good service and the drinks menu was well priced as well. Five stars!

Tables to close together ok if you like sharing your evening with strangers and having to listen to their conversations. Starter well presented but everything just chucked in the deep fat fryer. Main course was tasty but meat extremely tough rice cold. Wine very pricy for a cheap Aldi £5.00 bottle of wine. Staff attentive and pleasant. Excessive compulsory service charge the customer should be able to decide if they want to tip and by how much not the restaurant. Very expensive for what it was won’t be back.

Quedamos absolutamente impresionados por el estándar de la comida, mi esposa tomó el filete de solomillo chispeante en salsa de frijoles negros con arroz frito con huevo y fui por el pato crujiente salteado y nueces de anacardo con arroz de coco que creo que es posiblemente la cosa más agradable que he probado, de este mundo! El servicio era excepcional, el personal tailandés era encantador, muy acorde con su casa de la tierra de las sonrisas y la factura final era muy razonable. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente!

Absolutely lovely experience here at Nok’s Thai kitchen! This was my first stop after getting off a plane from America and coming to spend some time here in Scotland. I happen upon this cute little restaurant and I love Thai food so it was a definite win. The food was absolutely beyond good, the chicken sauté was the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had and I travel all over the world! Absolutely love everything I had here highly recommend this place!

Very bad service. If the shop owner stops by to read, please correct the service section as well. From my experience as a waiter and working in a restaurant in London, stores do not teach employees to act like this with customers. No matter what nationality the customer is. The more Thai people are together, the more they should be considerate. Don't hate people of the same nationality. On this trip, we also stopped to try many Thai restaurants. Other shops have very good service. The staff smiled and welcomed us with good service. When we came across Nok's restaurant, And then expand it.

The restaurant stuff are disrespectful and does not welcoming guests plus not everything mentioned in the menu is available. So, it is not recommended at all. Rather, there are better restaurants next to it.

Amazing food and great services

Absolutely fantastic experience at Noks Kitchen! From start to finish, everything was perfect. We tried a variety of dishes including the Tempura Chicken, Pad Thai, chicken satay, Massaman Curry with Prawns, and Nutty Chicken, and each dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Tempura Chicken was crispy and light, the Pad Thai had the perfect balance of sweetness and tang, and the Massaman Curry was rich and creamy, with the prawns cooked just right. The Nutty Chicken was a delicious surprise with its unique flavor. The service was attentive and friendly, and the cozy atmosphere made the whole evening enjoyable. Service is horrible! Not recommended at all! When we walked into the door, we want to sit at the window seat but was rejected cuz the lady told us it was three seaters in a rude way. Then, when we are ready to order, we make the eye contact and told her we want to order, she came to the table next to us, take their order, continue to ignore us. And she walked pass us without taking our order. What a horrible experience? Just curious, are you workers racist toward Asian even though they are Asian? I’m getting the vibe you guys are looking up and give special treatment to white people.

We wanted a lovely meal in a friendly local restaurant and this place didn’t disappoint. My husband is lactose intolerant and they were very accommodating and helpful. The menu was not huge but it was easy to find a delicious meal. I would DEFINITELY go back!

Wandered in here for a late lunch and was not disappointed. Great, friendly service. Best Pad Thai I've had since Thailand and I really enjoyed the house curry (Noks Nutty Curry). I intended to eat dinner or my lunch to save for later but I just ate the whole thing. Would recommend.

Really cute place. Last time I came it was delicious. This time I arrived for a booking at 8.30, staff were not friendly and immediately informed me I should order as the kitchen was closing. I said their website said 9.30, they said no-soon. I had a pad Thai which was gloopy and had a hair in it :( staff couldn’t care less so I paid and left. A shame as last time I came it was great

0827 2024 Pad Thai is really delicious, but if you can’t eat spicy food, don’t pour all the chili powder in at once. The pineapple fried rice is average and the amount of nuts is okay. I ate more than 300 yuan and was given two chocolates when I checked out.

Small Thai restaurant next to the castle. The foods are tasty, service is exceptional but mind of the small space. They open at 12 (based on the clock tower of the castle, not your watch !). Be sure that you arrived just before 12, because the queue is quick to formed

Awful waitress, super mean! When we walked in, she told us we could only stay for an hour. Since we were waiting for the Tattoo performance, we didn’t plan to stay long anyway. When we ordered, we chose “chicken soap and egg fried rice, starters and snacks”, totaling around £19. She then told us there was a minimum spend requirement and insisted we order more expensive dishes. However, we 2 ppl weren’t very hungry and the performance was about to start, so we didn’t want to order too much. She then refused to serve us, and when we left, she snatched up the menus and slammed them on the table. I wonder if the owner of this place would check the CCTV and see how much money they can make with such snobbish and rude waitress.
