Can't fault it! It's been my local and now the restaurant I travel to - it's that good!

Another excellent meal at our favourite Indian restaurant in Edinburgh. Great service from one of the owners of this family run establishment, always happy to help and advise on what to eat when unsure. Dad’s Deshi Lamb and Mums Deshi Chicken was great as always, and very recommended. As well as the Garam Massallam, so tasty and spiced really well! Must visit for fans of a good curry, if visiting Edinburgh.

Mango lassi was too sweet Biryani was quite wet, not standard. Lamb was a little dry but passably tender. The bowl of sauce that came w it was plain too Naan looked interesting but was quite dry and dense. Crisp didn't last V long either They didn't have deshi lamb that day, which is their signature, we got the deshi ckn instead. That was decent

Excellent service. Had mum and dad's curry which was delicious. Generous portions, highly recommend a visit if your in the city .

Went there just by chance and got a spot. The food was very tasty and the portions were more than enough for us. Rice and naan are not included in the price but the naan is definitely a large portion. We were also recommended the coriander and coconut sweet potato naan - really tasty.

This is the famous place, who's chef made the most spiciest curry in the UK.

Food was excellent. If I had a larger stomach, I would’ve tried more options. Super friendly service and very fun experience. We came with a group from work and everyone was impressed with the quality and quantity and price of our meals! Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food!

What an amazing experience! Ali is the freaking man! Best in Edinburgh, and east US. There were 6 of us and we had such an amazing mix of curry’s , appetizers, and starters - plus mango lasi by the pitcher!

My husband and I had possibly the best Indian food we've ever had last night here. The chicken biryani was 10/10 (plus massive!), and the house speciality was, according to my husband, delicious The staff were great, too. They were friendly, attentive, and keen to make sure everything was to your satisfaction, even moving our table as we were beside a large hockey club group. All-in-all, this is a fantastic restaurant, and by adding in the fact that it's BYOB, too, it makes it great value as well.

This is a fabulous restaurant where every meal we have had has always been delicious and feels very much like home cooking. The restaurant is run by a family who are always so friendly and helpful. Recommend the pakora and homemade dip and the deshi lamb which falls of the bone. We can't wait to go back again soon.

We visited for the first time this evening for a take away and the curry was the best we have had in Edinburgh. Perfect combination of balance of flavour. We got a Chicken dopiaza and the chef made it exactly how we described to him how we like it. Really a beautiful taste and chicken very tender. We definitely be coming back. Enjoyed several excellent curries - a lamb rogan josh, a Lahore chicken curry and an eggplant brinjal. Everything was delicious and lovingly prepared. Unpretentious and reasonably priced.

I've been to Kismot a few times now and each time it's been out of this world. The chefs go above and beyond of what is needed. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and leyla is lovely.

Authentic family cooking. Delicious madras chicken and eggplant lamb For the more adventurous, the killer kismot - so spicy it's free if you finish the dish. We didn't dare... No alcoholic drinks served but BYOB encouraged. A very good address in the university district.

The best South Asian restaurant in the country. Portion sizes, prices, flavours, choices are all perfect. Excellent vegetarian and vegan options. All dietary requirements are treated equally (unlike many other restaurants I have visited) I come here every time I'm in Edinburgh. BYOB a good bonus too.

Came up to Edinburgh from London for Easter weekend and had the best curry at this lovely and friendly family run Indian restaurant.

Came on Saturday night with my friend and I have to say we both agreed that this is the best curry we’ve ever had great service, amazing food and being able to bring your own bottle is amazing. Definitely one of Edinburgh’s best spots for food also it’s got a great price range very affordable and how could I forget the chilli sauce I was amazed me and my friend had to ask for extra cause it was that good.

Ma femme et moi y sommes allés en compagnie d’une amie sur la base des recommandations sur trip advisor. Nous sommes arrêtés à l’ouverture pour réserver une table plus tard en soirée. Le proprio nous a accueilli chaleureusement lors de la réservation. Lors de notre arrivée, nous avons eu droit au même accueil chaleureux de la part de sa fille. Très bon service. Nous avons pris le poulet au beurre et l’agneau. Des recettes de familles. L’agneau était de loin le meilleur que j’ai mangé dans un resto indien. What a fantastic, friendly, welcoming restaurant! The food was wonderful, as was the service. Try the Deshi Chicken or lamp, you wont be disappointed.

Where do i start? We chose to eat here after the rave reviews and how much they are a family run business so we thought we (young family) would enjoy it but i was far from right!. We made a booking through the phone gentleman was very polite. Once we attended thats when the nightmare started so as my wife pushed the pram in she couldnt open the door as it was abit heavy yet the staff didnt help at all just stared… so anyway we walk in its empty restaurant yet as we had 2 young children with us we were seated in the far corner out the way as if we was a burden but okay… we were shown our table but wernt even given menus to look at , so as we sat down our child had decided to throw a tantrum as we were trying to calm him down the waiter kept coming up asking if we were ready to order even though he still hasnt given us any menus etc and he could see we was abit occupied with our child and we had asked him to give us some time so we could calm him down first then the waiter started talking about he had other tables to come etc even tho it was empty and to be honest at that time i would of walked out because of the rude service but my wife didnt want to give them the satisfaction!! Anyway so we ordered and the starters pakoras and somosas just wow!! Probs been in the freezer for a week you could see everything was just deep fried and tossed on the plate meat inside was mush tasted more like mashed potato than meat so we move on to mains and il be honest curry we ordered was dad desi khani was decent and fried rice wasnt bad but then we ordered a keema nan now the nan…. Same again overdone burnt and keema is mush… was probs better off ordering a plain nan to be honest… and for drinks we wanted to order a jug of coke but apparantly the only sell cans of coke at £3.50 each wouldnt exactly say value for money…through out the night no one even bothered to come to our table to ask how the food was.. or even if we needed anything So anyway we was done and thought okay lets just pay and go as surely it cant get any worse so bill comes and i asked to pay by card again the same waiter comes with the machine as he passed it to pay it said on the machine the transaction timed out which i tried to explain to the gentleman but he bluntly took the card out of my hard and nearly smashed his own machine trying to put it in out of frustration.. so after all paid not even a thank you but walks away honestly one of the worst experience iv had in a Indian restaurant. Kismot your website looks great you guys looked like a friendly restraunt.. but you honestly need to sort it as i doubt anyone would go back after that experience..

Went out for a meal to this restaurant, i gotta say food was fantastic just the right type home cooked food you want. Food was lovely the gentleman that served us was very polite and nice. Good atmosphere, would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Bangladeshi food.

Came to Edinburgh for business trip from Birmingham Been staying in Edinburgh for 3days we had difficult food for last few days after reading good reviews about kismot I thought I will drive 20mins and go try they food HAS TO BE THE BEST CURRY HOUSE IN EDINBURGH i will definitely recommend you to try it out We will be going back tomorrow again before we go back to Birmingham Thank you to the owner looking after us Lovely food great service 5 star 🌟

We chose this place on a quiet night because we were staying around the corner. It was a good choice. Family run and the food was enjoyable - in fact, good value too given we struggled to get through it all. If you like really hot dishes (which is not us), that seems to be an area of speciality for these guys.

We had a very good meal, the food was very good, the family cooking, authentic and the waitress super cute and the dishes cooked by her parents. A very good address with reasonable prices. See you soon !

This place accepted a last minute booking for 50 of us and we are SO glad they did. All of the food was amazing and the service was absolutely second to none. The food is really delicious of this restaurant. Especially the Tarka dal is lip locking yummy. Moreover the restaurant is 100% halal. If you want pure Bangladeshi or Indian food you should definitely go there. If I will get a chance to visit Edinburgh again, I will obviously come here.

I'd heard a lot about the Kismot Indian restaurant in Edinburgh thru its legendary - 'Kismot Killer' curry, which I later learned from the chef that only 5 people have actually survived eating the entire curry! Should you be tempted to try the Kismot and clear the entire curry, the meal is on the house. I wasn't going to risk the Kismot Killer, but I am a big fan of Naga curries, so ordered a Chicken Naga and Pilau Rice. There was a bit of a wait for my curry, but in my book that's always a good sign, as you know your meal is being freshly prepared. When the Naga curry arrived, chef told me that he had barbecued the chicken breast pieces to give it extra flavour in the spicy Naga sauce. The Naga was one of the most severe I'd consumed heat wise, yet the taste was amazing, despite the heat and the flavours really did come through. A large jug of water was brought to my table, and this really helped cool me down. I must add that The Kismot is a BYOB establishment due to the staffs religious beliefs, and the owners told me straight away on my arrival, so I nipped out to get my own beer. Kismot is a lovely family run restaurant, the portions were huge and as for the food, some of the best Indian I've had. Will definitely be returning.

We have travelled to India many times and have high standards for Indian cuisine! Kismot delivers delicious food and a broad selection! We were talking about the food for the rest of the evening once we headed home! The personal service was wonderful, we really felt comfortable and welcome! Kismot is BYOB. They really make sure you know it in advance so you can take advantage of bringing exactly what you want to accompany your meal! What a great way to provide customer service while respecting the beliefs of the owners - very well done! Amazing traditional food brought in a trendy way by a super sweet and fun family. We went to visit Edinburgh for 5 days, we ate here twice. Absolutely recommend it and happy to be in line for adoption into the family!

Always a good spot, have visited several times when at the Fringe. BYOB increases the value. Lots of choice and some unusual options which have been mentioned before. Good service. Have been a few times in the evening during the week and never seems busy.

If you enjoy true indian food that has good flavour and spices do NOT go here. The lamb biryani had lamb that was clearly just boiled with no flavouring added and the rice was some very bland pulao with no flavour. The two were then clearly just put together separately (not how a biryani is made). The biryani was meant to come with sauce with options of mild, medium and hot, we chose hot expecting it to add some flavour and we were presented with some tomato paste, i don’t even wanna know what would have given to us if we chose mild lmao. The tandoori chicken was ok, although still lacked any considerable flavour and spice. The service was good though, the staff were friendly and had high energy. It was the food that let us down considerably. But if you enjoy bland spice-less ‘indian’ food then you will like this place.

What a gorgeous time we had at Kismot. We dined as a party of 6 not long after 5pm on a Sunday and it was already very busy - I’d absolutely recommend booking! We started with sharing poppadoms and chutneys which were crisp and delicious...

Visiting Edinburgh, popped in for a meal. As we like to support family run businesses, thought we're give it a go. Superb food, lamb jalfrezzi keep you going for a week.
