It was just awesome. I went there yesterday night with my friend. They were about to close. Still they offered the service to us. That was so kind. 😊 Tried Deokbokki and jampong. I don't have any words to describe. Loved it!!!! 😊😊😊

Friendly service, even if there is no reservation, if there is a seat, they will inform you after a thorough explanation (when it will be available). I visited because I really wanted to eat Korean food after a month-long overseas trip, and I was 200% satisfied. When ordering, ask if the food can be made spicier. Of course, I ate it spicier. I had a good meal and left. This restaurant is popular among locals and Asian travelers, so we recommend making a reservation if you can. The food quality is good and the price is reasonable.

Had our first Korean meal here yesterday, had great service from the team, helped us with our order and bbq. Great fun cooking at the table and the steer and other cooked dishes were very tasty too. Highly recommend a visit.

After a week of traveling in England, I was craving Korean food, so I stopped by this place without any information. I remember it for its reasonable price and delicious food. The male owner was also kind. I don't know if I'll be able to travel to Edinburgh again next time, but I'd like to recommend it to others.

We ordered barbecue and the meat is nice. Beef is highly recommended! Fried chicken is also very good! Dishes are a bit small so you might want to order n+1 dishes for n people. Very good service and very nice staffs!

I ordered chicken bulgogi set, and famous kimchi from them, via deliveroo. Chicken bulgogi set was delicious and everything was so nice and fresh. Kimchi was nice too and like really authentic Korean kimchi, spicy, tangy. I want to tell everyone please visit this restaurant once.

I recently dined at this Korean BBQ spot and was genuinely impressed by the level of service. The staff was incredibly attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The Korean pancakes were a hit at our table, perfectly crispy and flavorful, especially when dipped in the accompanying sauce. The dumplings were another highlight, with the fried ones standing out for their juicy filling and satisfying crunch. The Bibimbap, while tasty, was a bit of a letdown in terms of portion size and meat quantity - it was hard to spot the meat in there. As for the main event, the KBBQ set, the portions were on the smaller side, the quality of the meat justified the price I guess. There's something really enjoyable about cooking the meat yourself, even if it means a little extra work at the table. Overall, it was a great dining experience with a few minor tweaks that could make it even better.

Delicious and authentic Korean BBQ. A complete dining experience with the hot grill plate inset to your table, along with friendly knowledgeable staff willing to recommend and further describe dishes. Highly recommended.

Excellent night out with a friend. Fast and polite service and exceptional food. Cooking BBQ at the table was great fun and our complementary soju was a lovely end to a fabulous experience. We will definitely be back next time we visit Edinburgh.

Food was good (had two different meats, the pork belly and non-marinated steak which included some banchan) and relatively inexpensive for Korean barbecue. Service was also friendly and good. Going on a Saturday night requires a reservation (we were lucky to get a 2 person table right by the door without reservation but it didn't have the BBQ cooktop). Many people turned away at the door with one. Would go back.

Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. Staff where friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. All in all a fantastic dining experience.

Best korean bbq we've found outside Seoul so far. It felt really authentic, was super tasty (that stew!), and the staff were lovely.

Highly recommended Korean Restaurant, I just loved everything about it: the food, the staff, and the service all were wonderful. I had a fantastic dinner experience with my friends there.

A very nice place and food was delicious. Staff were friendly too. Wouldn’t recommend it for vegans or vegetarians though, because I went with my mum who is vegan and she was only able to choose from two things on the menu and they charged her an extra £2 to add tofu (even though adding meat would have only costed £1.50). This was the only downside for us though! Would still recommend to non-vegetarians :)

Amazing place, superb food and a great service! This is our first time at a Korean restaurant and I was very looking forward to it, especially BBQ. We will definitely be back again with friends and family 🙂🙂🙂

went to this restaurant with friends after hearing some good stuffs about their Korean fried chicken. I ordered tteokbokki and found a man’s hair in it considering it was short in length and none of my friends were male nor they had such short hair. The restaurant denied it saying that none of their chefs or staff has black hair when clearly their waiting staff had black hair. They believed that the hair could have appeared from the customers around. I understand such things can happen but the restaurant should have owned up to it and take measures to create a hygiene environment in the kitchen. Anyway, I was offered to have my dish remake but the dish remade had the black spring roll thing missing from top and the quantity seemed to have decreased so it was quite disappointing. However, the dish was nice taste wise. My friends highly appreciated the Korean fried chicken but didn’t like really like the rest of their dishes much. Edit: Yes, the review is based on my first and last visit to Ong gie which was last December. The photos of tteokbokki attached are the ones which was served to be first. What would I gain from giving the restaurant an exaggerated review? The restaurant didn’t apologise nor agree to it back then and neither do they agree it now, nothing has changed 🤷🏽‍♀️

I tried the budae jjigae (army stew) it's lovely. The pumpkin fritters is perfectly cooked. The fish shape waffle is filled with red bean which have slightly sweet taste.

Absolutely amazing food and customer service. Accommodated a special ask for us and have been delightful to deal with. The food is incredible too - highly recommend.

I loved the bibimbap! Also highly recommend the kimchi pancake starter, it was so lovely! My friend hadn’t had bibimbap and one of the staff members showed her how to mix it together like they do in Korea, and also gave us options for different sauces. Portion sizes were great, after my starter and main I was so full!

I walked in at 2pm and was kindly reminded that the kitchen would be closing in half an hour and asked if that was okay. I was still allowed to order food :). Because of the reviews I ordered the jjamppong and was not disappointed! I asked for the less spicy version. As someone with quite a low pain tolerance, it was no walk in the park but delicious either way. I didn't expect to like the seafood as much as I did. I personally liked the chewiness of the seafood, but people with texture issues should be aware that every ingredient in this dish is a different kind of chewy. Service was fast and the waiter was very friendly! I was given some hot water to warm up when I came in as it was cold out.

Absolutely lovely place The food is authentic and extremely flavoursome And the staff is immensely friendly and polite. They give good advice and helped us choose and very soft spoken. Only gripes are that on occasion they would ask to leave by a certain time (90 minutes in our case) when you book but the staff were apologetic and did recommend that if we booked in advance they would have been able to accommodate longer but that's a minor thing. Very satisfied overall

My wife and I brought our two kids to the Korea restaurant tonight. The owner was very friendly, and the food was excellent and served quickly. Towards the end, our kids made a bit of a mess, and the staff kindly helped us clean it up. We will definitely visit again the next time we’re in Edinburgh.

Food was excellent, but quite expensive for what you get. Also if you get a bbq dish (which you should, share with someone else who isn’t also getting a BBQ dish, otherwise you’re just eating meat.

I think its the Best Korean restaurant in Edinburgh! I love their Kimchi Pancake, Japchae and Ccan Pong Ki - must try! Beef Bibimbap was alright, tasty but not amazing. Their service was excellent and food wait time was only about 10 minutes. Very much recommended!

We went for lunch on Saturday with my old mum. We knew the korean food could be spicy, so we asked for noodles not spicy for my mum and so it was. She was so happy the seafood in the udon were cooked with garlic and not onion. She said best seafood She got since she s living here in UK. I got Kimchi Pancake and chicken Bibimbap set. Simply stunning. A mention to the service: simply beyond my expectations. The waiters and the owner were all Koreans and it made me feel happier cause in that case I knew the food was really authentic. I could even try to speak Korean (my poor korean) and they were so happy I did it and they were replying me back in korean! Such a good satisfaction. I can hardly wait for coming back there. Definitely one of the best ethnic restaurant in the whole town. Top!!!

I ordered something really spicy by accident and the waiter kindly changed it. It's the second time I have come here and it's the best korean restaurant by far in Edinburgh. Highly recommended.

Very friendly and helpful staff in a clean and bright ambience. We had the kimchi pancakes and dumplings, both really tasty. This was followed by a spicy meat stew, kimchi stew, a seafood stew along with rice. Wr had all this with some Korean beer and original and grape soju , which is a must with Korean food.

As a regular customer, I can tell not only the food is delicious but the service is top notch. I found flavours of food I did find when going to Seoul, so you can be sure of the authenticity. If you don’t know what to order, trust the staff’s recommendations. The owner is such a lovely person and doesn’t hesitate to have you discover traditional food and drinks. A plan to go and to return to for sure!

很好吃的韓式餐廳！ 海鮮煎餅五顆星，很酥還好吃！醬也超好吃。海鮮豆腐湯也很不錯，豆腐很嫩很好吃。我朋友點部隊鍋，店員說是一般人可以接受的辣度（可能是一般韓國人吧），但是太辣了。老闆竟然拿回去重煮一份還跟我們道歉三次，服務有點過好了😂 記得要定位，我們五點來已經訂位滿了，硬是排給我們一桌吃一個小時。

Wonderful food, beautiful people, welcoming, warm, friendly, like eating with family. By far my my favourite restaurant in edinburgh. Such a lovely experience all in. We had a small but varied party and everyone was catered for. The waiting staff are so engaging and enthusiastic, what a breath of fresh air. Then, we had a lovely man come and provide practical help with our BBQ who was super knowledgable about Korean cuisine and the history of Korean food and drink! It was brilliant. We will be back regularly. Cannot recommend enough. Don’t miss this whatever you do.

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is delicious, reasonable pricing and the staff are beyond lovely and efficient. It always busy so try and book at table to avoid disappointment, they can however usually squeeze you in without a booking after 8pm.

Sehr empfehlenswert 🤍🤍🤍 super nette Inhaber, man fühlt sich hier willkommen. Ein leckeres Essen essen mit zarten Fleisch. Alles ist auf dem Punkt gegahrt und gewührtz. Und was für mich sehr wichtig ist, das Fleisch ist nicht fertig und trotzdem zahrt gewesen. P.S: das Restaurant ist immer gut besucht. Daher am besten ein Tisch reservieren oder früh kommen. (Wir kammen immer früh, und haben 2x ohne Probleme Platz bekommen👍)

I’ve also taken my non-Korean friends to this place and they were all satisfied with the taste, quality, and portions. Book in advance to secure a table. I guarantee that you won’t regret dropping by this amazing restaurant. 해외에서 먹은 한식 중에 세 손가락 안에 꼽을 정도로 맛있습니다. 에딘버러에 있는 한식당들 다 가봤지만 여기만큼 제대로 한국스러운 곳은 없어요. 런던에서도 뉴몰든 아니면 이 정도 퀄리티의 한국 음식 찾기 쉽지 않으실 거에요. 특히 여행 오셔서 한식 먹어야겠다 하시는 분들은 다른 곳 찾지 마시고 여기 바로 가주세요 진짜 맛있으니까요😭

My first review ever, normally don’t do those, but we just had the perfect evening. The food was super delicious and spicy, paired with some nice korean beer. We had some awesome starters and as main dish the Korean deep fried garlic chicken and kimchi. But the best was the kindness and hospitality of the owner. Thank you very much for the experience! Would highly recommend (and that is rare coming from a German)!

Other comments are complaining about the size of the BBQ portions but the pork set was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I, who both have big appetites. The sauces and sides offered with the BBQ meat were delicious! A kind portion of sides for a Korean restaurant outside of Korea. We also had pajeon, which was fine, but the taste seemed to be tweaked for the western palate. It was tasty, but not in the same way as an authentic pajeon. The owner is a really lovely man and all the staff were kind and friendly! You should definitely visit here if you have time in Edinburgh. They also had a selection of Korean beers (Cass and Terra) which I would have loved to order but I had overindulged in chocolate earlier in the day so stuck to water.

Proudly located in Bruntsfield area, Ong Gie offers authentic and delicious Korean food. They offer bbq and a la carte menu. Pajeon is acceptably good. Jajangmyeon is also alright but personally the sauce is a bit light. The star for me as a Thai people is Korean fried chicken. I tried sweet soy sauce which is crispy and sweet and of course delicious. They also have sweet chilli which can be spicier version. My Korean friend said it’s one of the acclaimed Korean restaurant in Edinburgh and I happily agree. Highly recommended for dining in to taste when they served from the kitchen.

I needed a quick dinner. Would definitely recommend Ong gie. It’s a very casual restaurant. Jeans and T-shirt kind of vibe. They have grills at the table for a bbq but I was a party of 1, slightly hungry and didn’t have energy to grill. However their menu has a variety of meat and fish dishes. I went for the yangeoum chicken (sweet based sauced boneless chicken), egg brown rice and stir fried pork and vegetables (which has more mushrooms than veggies). On a side note, is mushroom considered a vegetable? The pork was a little too oily and salty for my taste but the rice was neutral and the sweet chicken balanced the savouriness. The staff was super friendly, took a little time to get my order but besides that the rest of the service was good. The banchan is basic. Never been a fan because it’s typically cold. Would I go back again. Yes, the portions are good and I spent approximately £32.

The korean bbq was delicious. I would suggest to order rice and kimchi on the side, the bulgogi portions are not too big.. Pretty lovely atmosphere, waiters are considerate and quick.

A bit disappointed because there were not many banchan like Korean restaurants in other countries. Kimchi and green is not free. However, meat is very tender. All dishes are well seasoned. tteokbokki is perfect to me. Nice staff and good atmosphere.

We had a great evening!! Besides the very delicious food, the staff provided interesting explanations about the dishes and some korean history, a lovely service, and little chocolate pieces for our way home. The service was extraordinary and we felt highly welcomed; all that for a very affordable price.

The only reason we tried out the restaurant was the Bibimbab and boy it was good. As we have never eaten it, the owner even took his time how to properly eat the Bibimbab. In the end he additionally explained the origins of the meal. Overall just a really nice experience! 10/10, would recommend

짬뽕맛집......ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 주인 분께서 친절하게 이것저것 설명해주셔서 에딘버러 관광이 한결 수월했습니다. 도착한 날 트램에서 잘못 내려서 한참 걸어가야 했지만 충분히 가치있는 여정이었어요ㅎㅎㅎㅠ 장기 여행 중이신 분들 특히 추천드립니다

Galbi tang was a bit of a joke: There were very small quantities of short ribs and those that were found in the soup had only slivers of meat on them - all bone or undercooked tendons. We were given tonnes of tendons, but they were so tough and flavourless we couldn't eat them at all. Clearly undercooked. The only saving grace was the broth itself was very flavourful and tasty, loved that.

Authentic and extremely tasty. I really enjoyed every dish on the table. The oxtail soup was so milky and creamy. The bbq meats were well marinated though the beef was rather tough. And the Korean fried chicken was crispy and flavourful. Best Korean restaurant in Edin!

여행 중에 어머니께서 한식을 너무 먹고 싶어하셔서 방문했습니다. 주말에 예약없이 갔더니 역시나 손님이 많아서 예약이 꽉 차 있다고 하시더라구요. 한국인 사장님께서 테이크아웃 해서 가져갈 수 있는 방법을 알려주셔서 주문도 하고, 자리도 잠시 앉게 해주시고 추운 날이라 레몬차도 해주시고 갈 때는 초콜렛까지 주셔서 너무 감동했습니다ㅠ 죄송하기도 하고 감사하기도 하고 진짜 감사했습니다. 어머니랑 같이 호텔에서 순두부찌개랑 떡볶이 먹었는데 너무 맛있었어요! 방문하시려는 분들은 미리 테이블이 있는지 확인하고 가셔야 할 것 같아요!

김치전, 짬뽕, 소불고기(+밥 추가) 시켰는데 빨리 나오고 맛있었어요. 리뷰를 보고 자장면 대신 짬뽕을 시켰는데 좋은 선택이였네요. 국물이 얼큰하고 해산물도 괜찮아요. 소불고기도 양념 깔끔하고 담백해서 맛있게 먹었네요. 서빙하는 직원들과 사장님이 친절하셔서 엄마랑 좋은 저녁식사를 했어요. 기본 반찬은 감자조림+숙주나물 나오고 공기밥은 찌개가 아니면 추가 해야 되는 점 참고하세요. We ordered kimchi pancakes, jjamppong and beef bulgogi (added a bowl of rice). The food came out quickly and it was delicious. I ordered the jjamppong instead of jajangmyeon after reading the reviews, which was a good choice. The soup was spicy and the seafood in the jjamppong was good too. The beef bulgogi’s seasoning was just right and it was very enjoyable. The staff and owner were very kind so my mum and I had a lovely dinner! FYI: the basic side dishes provided were stewed potatoes and stir fried beansprouts & the bowl of rice only comes with stews and you have to order it as an extra for other dishes.

All the one star reviews are people that are extremely rude to staff and expect to be treated like royalty. Do not listen to them they are stupid. This restaurant is top tier.

Went there on work Christmas night out. Was never over full, although lots of footfall. Service was brilliant and the food was amazing. First time having Korean food (and drink) and fully intend going back.
