We went just for a drink. I didn't like to gin cocktail, but it was not fault of the bar. Atmosphere there was nice :)

Honestly the restaurant is just perfect The service is very fast, the staff is helpful, the meal is just perfect. I had a Highland chicken nugget 😉 My family had fish and chips and haggis a nugget too😍 For a very first evening in Scotland I am not disappointed to come to your place 😉

Really nice atmosphere, however very slow service, and the food was not the best either. Burnt chicken, and the fish and chips was very oily.

The hype is real people. Great food and great selection of drinks. Will go again if we visit the area.

Absolutely love this hidden gem - the best authentic food in Scotland for a reasonable price, large portions too. Service is great as well - had to come twice in our trip we loved it so much!

I ate "The George Burger" and it was one of the best burgers I've eaten. It was very tasteful and the chef had thought about every little detail. I really recomend McGongalls.

Beautiful pub on one of the main streets of Old Edinburgh. Large room with several seats which is not usual in places in this area. The beers are good, finally someone with Tennents on tap. The soups and pies are good.

A really nice pub but staff let it down. Doorman was aloof and miserable dealing with 50 yr old adults. Bar person was uninterested and again aloof. As an Edinburgh resident you need to remember that a percentage of your trade comes from locals

My wife and I enjoyed a meal and bottle of wine here with our 2 dogs. The servers could not do enough for us and our dogs so why the star loss you'll ask. Well I'm gluten free and the options for me to chose from were very limited albeit the fried haloumi and nachos with bacon were very tasty!

Went here recently, the food was fab (recommended the veggie haggis spring rolls!). Lovely decor and the staff were nice. Only gripe is the website said the cocktails were £9.75, however when we got there the menu stated they were £11. Would come back nonetheless :)

What a wonderful spot! We were a bunch of Americans with crazy cocktail requests (that no other spot in Edinburgh would fulfill), but the folks here took the time to look up the cocktails and make it! So grateful. The men on our trip ordered a whiskey tasting and the employees were incredibly knowledgeable about which one to try as they were novices. The deep fried mars bar is worth the calories (at least once). Went back a second night during our trip and there was live music. Great atmosphere for drinks with friends!

Not welcoming for kitchen s timing.... We came two successive nights for dinner and a drink. Both times for a bit of time we ve been rejected. The menu for drinks is awesome and the place beautiful. The hospitality matters as well.

I was in Edinburgh meeting old friends, it just so happened that Scotland were playing France for the six nations meaning the atmosphere in the city was rather energetic. We looked for a quiet place and from the window we could see this bar had a lot of character and the menu was interesting so we went in and stayed for a good couple of hours. Staff were fantastic, food was amazing.

The staff are very caring and welcoming, and the food portions are very good! I had the veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. As well as a deep fried mars bar - both were amazing! I would definitely come back!

Very calm and comfy place, food is delicious (I recommend sausage in Yorkshire pudding) and Aino, the amazing waitress that served us, is the most sunny person i’ve ever come across. My boyfriend and I have spent 8 days in Edinburgh and we came here twice. Also the local is very clean, unlike so many in the city. Loved the vibe, the food and - most of all - Aino, really feels like sun in this rainy beautiful city.

Spent a wonderful afternoon in this pub. Cocktails were amazing. Nachos fab. Staff so friendly.

Excellent place we had to visit and have a well earned bevvy. Extra fun due to the name as our family are true Harry Potter fans. Can highly recommend their different gin flights. A good way to test different types of gin to get an understanding that there are more than just classic GTs. Food was also good. We had to leave quite early though as we had under aged kids.

The place is very nice, the staff is super friendly (and knowledgeable on whisky and gins) and the food is good. Definitely one of the best Mac'n Cheese I've had in my life. Really loved the place!

Nice place to enjoy a drink. Whisky, gin and cocktails. Staff are very nice. In the old town close to lots of amenities and restaurants. Would definitely recommend. Didn't try the food so can't comment but it did look good.

Stumbled upon this fantastic place while wandering Edinburgh on our first day. We were drawn in by the name and won over by the delicious drinks, phenomenal food, reasonable prices, and hospitable service. Highly recommend the fish and chips and the pie of the week!

Chanced upon McGonagalls Gin and Whisky bar on the way back from visiting Edinburgh Castle. Was feel quite peckish, so I went in. The bar is nice with live music the night I visited. The staff were attentive and polite. The food is of a high standard and fairly priced. It's worth a visit if you are in the area.

All the staff were really friendly. We popped in twice over a couple of days. We enjoyed not only the drinks but the food too. We had bangers and mash, chicken breast stuffed with haggis and the deep fried mars bar.

What an amazing experience?! We came in because it was listed as a place that offered both whiskey and gin flights and not all of our group likes whiskey, but what we did not expect was the level of quality, quantity and service value we received! We came in right around 11am and stay until nearly 2:30 and were never rushed or shooed out the door. The staff were so fantastic and friendly. Offered us recommendations and pairings. It felt like you were welcomed and wanted throughout the whole visit. The 5 of us enjoyed flights, cocktails and nibbles. Highlights were the Dessert Flight (some very surprising whiskies on there), the Rivers and Oceans Flight (loved all 3 offerings and the tonic pairs were great) and the SCOT EGGS! Honestly, it was the best jammy egg- just perfect!! We will be back!

Amazing drinks. Bramble is new favorite drink. And the BEST vegan fish & chips! The batter is insane. I would come back to Edinburgh just for these. I’ve told everyone I know about it!

Lovely place, been there twice now about a year apart through travelling for work, excellent food, service, drinks and atmosphere. Place is great inside and great value for money. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a casual place to eat or drink in Edinburgh centre.

Great ambience and an amazing whisky list with 40+ single malts (and blended of course) to choose from! Their "whiskey flights" (essentially your own whisky tasting with three different sorts) comes highly recommended!

Very nicely decorated, staff are friendly and helpful. The gin trays are 😘😘. We went on a Sunday night, they had a singer on.

Only group in the restaurant today at around noon. Took about 10 minutes for someone to speak to us. The two servers were chatting the whole time and neglecting us. They asked us how everything was when billing us out… we said the service could have been better. The server then laughed at our honesty. Extremely rude and will not be back.

Wonderful food and drinks. I took a soup of the day(garlic and tomatoes) and it was truly one of the best soup I have ever eaten. However the waitresses could have been more smiley! :)

Must visit for any tourists! Visited for partners birthday weekend away and they really made everything special for us and her !

All was going ok until we didn’t get service after 2 rounds because apparently we were drunk when we were only having a laugh the waiter didn’t know the difference between drunk and having a laugh we clearly wasn’t drunk shocking

We stopped in here for a few drinks, and a small bite and left with such a wonderful experience. They had great drinks and the macaroni and cheese was absolutely delicious. The service was great. The location was great. Just overall a great spot to stop if you’re in the area.

A very cosy Pub with good food and drinks. Especially the flair of the Pub and the whiskey tasting is worth it.

The staff was lovely and helpful, the pub looks great and very homely. Loads of space for all incoming visitors. The food, unfortunately, left something to be desired. The Highland chicken was very dry and chewy and the watery whisky sauce just barely made up for it. Food left aside, it's a great place for cocktails and other drinks!!!!

Absolute Empfehlung. Leckeres Essen, freundliches Personal und ein tolles Ambiente. Hier wird er Dram so serviert wie man es sich wünscht (siehe Foto). Einfach richtig gut.

Neil was such an excellent server. Really looked after us when it was obviously pretty busy during the festival. Our food was good. Our drinks were good. Service was swift snd attentive. And it wasn't too expensive. Great choice. Especially if you get Neil.

Had a reunion with friends here yesterday. We had a great time and would recommend food and drinks. I can recommend the deep-fried Mars bar and the cocktails.

Rustic and interesting. Really good gin cocktails and it is very comfortable inside. We got lucky and got to listen to live music. Really worth a stop.

Excellent food and great selection of drinks. Price was good given the food and location. Service was pretty inconsistent, the food came out quickly and was quite good but I had to get up from the table and go to the bar to get a drink because after the food arrived the staff seemed to be absorbed in other tasks and pretty much ignored me.

We spotted this gem on our way to Diagon Alley with the kids and went back to try out the food. We have dietary restrictions and they were awesome with gluten free and vegan options. Great atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

On a day visit to Edinburgh we visited to have a meal on the last night of our holiday, I had haggis, neeps and tatties, the others had highland chicken, burgers and fish and chips, followed by a deep fried mars bar, service was quick and friendly and food was fab!

We had a few hours free and stopped in here to sample some whisky. We did that, plus we stayed for some delicious Mac and Cheese and the Deli Board. The servers were extremely nice. We really enjoyed the whisky flights as well as the food we had. I am sorry we did not get to come back on this visit, and try some more of their menu items. I genuinely enjoyed our time there.

This was a great lunch spot! I got the haggis, neeps (turnips), & tatties (potatoes). We also tried the haggis spring rolls and the shortbread cranachen. Everything was delicious! Servers were very nice too.

Absolutely gorgeous place, quirky and original with friendly staff. Food was amazing as were the cocktails. I'm coming back with Family in August and we will definitely have this on our list

Great range of food and drink available, presented beautifully on wooden menus. Staff were efficient but not overly friendly. Plenty of spacious, comfortable seating. Toilets were clean but were quite a walk down some stairs.

We ate at restaurant as part of a group tour. Food was ample and tasted great. I would come here again on my own. Service was the best we had while in this city.

Was a really good find. Had one of their whisky flights and an Old Fashioned to drink. Good whisky selection there and knowledgeable bartender. For food, had the Scottish Egg and smoked salmon starters and both were good. Would say 4.5 rating rounded up. Would recommend trying this place.
