Had the traditional haggis 14.5£, they also tack on an optional service charge to the bill It's the best I've had, it's quite well seasoned and was thus more flavourful than the rest of the nonsense I've had previously. The texture of the haggis was a bit on the sticky side. Neeps and tatties were good too, whisky cream sauce tasted like a generic jus Service was pleasant

Had a quick late night dinner here. Live music was fabulous. I was happy to try the vegetarian Haggis so I can at least say I tried it. It was on nachos and very tasty! Bangers and mash were good as well. Servers were friendly.

Our meal was excellent ! We took the vegetarian haggis and the Mac N Cheese, it was delicious.The waiters was very kind. The place is beautiful and very fast service.

Chanced upon McGonagalls Gin and Whisky bar on the way back from visiting Edinburgh Castle. Was feeling quite peckish, so I went in. The bar is nice with live music the night I visited. The staff were attentive and polite. The food is of a high standard and fairly priced. It's worth a visit if you are in the area.

Excelente servicio. Bonito W - peluche y buena cerveza. El pudín de toffe pegajoso debería haber sido con crema de helado. La hamburguesa de pollo estaba un poco seca (fritas de pollo - no hamburguesa) pero bollo sin gluten disponible y muy buenas patatas fritas.

Este es un bar encantador con vibraciones realmente encantadoras y una increíble selección de ginebra, whiskys y otras bebidas (un montón de cerveza genial en el grifo). Ambos optamos por sus vuelos catadores, yo por la variante Whisky y mi compañero por los catadores de Gin. Estas son excelentes opciones que nos permitieron probar algunas bebidas locales encantadoras, representando un gran valor también. Recomendaría encarecidamente y volveré (lo hicimos la noche siguiente)

Great place for a pitstop on a busy day of sightseeing. Can recommend the gin and whiskey flights. I had a Sweet Tooth gin flight which was just over £20, beautifully presented with 3 fruity gins, paired tonics and gorgeous garnishes. A really lovely treat, can totally recommend

Food was okay. Rarely had a server stop, which is fine...but then they add an almost 10 pound "Service Charge." Better Service and food other places without being ripped off!

Had zero plan to go to visit McGonagalls Gin & Whisky Emporium however, there was a great singer on and his voice tempted us in, a stroke of luck. Ending up having three whisky flights and a couple of cocktails enjoying the music. Staff also really friendly and attentive, venue well laid out and clean and just an overall great stop whilst in Edinburgh, brilliant.

Came in here for drinks whilst waiting for the ghost bus tour - a wide selection of drinks and great atmosphere, was almost a shame to have to go on the bus tour as they were about to hold their quiz night!

Very nice waiters but very poor quality food (chicken and minced meat not fresh and with an unpleasant smell). I only recommend it for a drink

Fab choice of whisky brought on a wooden tray with a separate ice & water glass. Drink menus even made of wood with iron hinges! 5 pages of different whiskeys! Expensive, but a real treat 😋 🥃

El mal servicio tardó una eternidad en conseguir comida fría con cócteles demasiado caros y no bien hechos. No volvería aquí de nuevo o recomendaría a otros.

I ate here yesterday and loved the food, atmosphere, and service! Unfortunately, I heard the news of Maggie Smith passing while I was here, but I think that made the visit more momentous :( Heads up that reception is a bit sketchy here, but they also have free wifi, so just join it and you'll be alright!

Lovely place to stop after visiting the Edinburgh Castle! The service was great and the food and drinks were no different! We had the Callum Skink, wings, truffle fries, mac n cheese and the best part....sticky toffee pudding!

We found good food, good drink and a good atmosphere here when we were looking for a place to eat some light food and good drink. The whiskey and gin selection at this place is good. We ate burgers with fries. Finished with whiskey and a Magnum each.

Great place. I had the haggis and was GREAT (I'm Italian!!! 🤌). Don't know what is all this stigma around it... Only downside music a bit too commercial. Would be nice to play Scottish music.

Nice place for Scottish food and drinks. Not exceptional quality but ok. Our sausages were a little dry. The service was good.

The most amazing find during our short stay in Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo. I read reviews on Google when looking for bars to go to and came across this place. Me and my husband love gin and whiskey, so what better place than McGonagalls. I had 2 of the Gin Flights, £20 each, but definitely worth it. Lots of choices and varieties to try. My husband had 1 of the whiskey flights and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were great, friendly and helpful explaining the whiskey selections. The whole bar was busy and had a great atmosphere, so good in fact, we stayed for 2 hours. For any gin and whiskey lovers, this is definitely the place to be. A must try when in Edinburgh.

Hemos probado fish and chips (el eglefino era masivo y la masa extra crujiente) , patatas fritas halloumi, selección de ginebras y un delicioso cóctel agrio de ginebra. Recomiendo mucho este lugar - el personal era muy educado y ni siquiera esperamos tanto tiempo para nuestra orden (alrededor de 30 minutos y nos informaron sobre el tiempo de servicio de antemano) . Los precios estaban bien teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que cenamos en el centro histórico de la ciudad, pero no nos arrepentimos de gastar alguna moneda extra para esta experiencia.

We've been there on Sunday and loved the place - we were sitting on a high table (funny filling of being in a gigantic world), waiters were very attentive and fast, food was good and not too heavy (though cranachan here is a disappointment - shortbreads with raspberry jam), the music was very nice. Could easily recommend it to the travellers who want to taste Scottish food and hospitality.

Amazing live music bar full of friendly staff who gave the most amazing customer service. Lots of Whisky to choose from and I bet there is something for everyone.

Very cute bar, has the old school feel but still modern at the same time. Drinks are not cheap, but extremely tasty and well made. We enjoyed a quick drink and some snacks before checking out some other places. Would recommend.

We didn't even drink anything, just stopped in for a quick lunch (Spring 2023). The food was quite good, and the staff were very friendly. Having just aimlessly wandered in, our expectations were well exceeded.

The last word cocktail was definitely the way to end an amazing trip. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is excellent!

Honestly the restaurant is just perfect The service is very fast, the staff is helpful, the meal is just perfect. I had a Highland chicken nugget 😉 My family had fish and chips and haggis a nugget too😍 For a very first evening in Scotland I am not disappointed to come to your place 😉

Dream Pab great beer and whisky

Absolutely love this hidden gem - the best authentic food in Scotland for a reasonable price, large portions too. Service is great as well - had to come twice in our trip we loved it so much!

Tried to visit with my partner, bouncer was extremely rude and turned us away for no reason, upon calling to see if there was a dress code (as no indication on website) the person on the phone could not hear us. We will not be returning and I believe the establishment need to look at who it employs as a bouncer as this should not happen.

I ate "The George Burger" and it was one of the best burgers I've eaten. It was very tasteful and the chef had thought about every little detail. I really recomend McGongalls.

Beautiful pub on one of the main streets of Old Edinburgh. Large room with several seats which is not usual in places in this area. The beers are good, finally someone with Tennents on tap. The soups and pies are good.

A really nice pub but staff let it down. Doorman was aloof and miserable dealing with 50 yr old adults. Bar person was uninterested and again aloof. As an Edinburgh resident you need to remember that a percentage of your trade comes from locals

My wife and I enjoyed a meal and bottle of wine here with our 2 dogs. The servers could not do enough for us and our dogs so why the star loss you'll ask. Well I'm gluten free and the options for me to chose from were very limited albeit the fried haloumi and nachos with bacon were very tasty!

Went here recently, the food was fab (recommended the veggie haggis spring rolls!). Lovely decor and the staff were nice. Only gripe is the website said the cocktails were £9.75, however when we got there the menu stated they were £11. Would come back nonetheless :)

What a wonderful spot! We were a bunch of Americans with crazy cocktail requests (that no other spot in Edinburgh would fulfill), but the folks here took the time to look up the cocktails and make it! So grateful. The men on our trip ordered a whiskey tasting and the employees were incredibly knowledgeable about which one to try as they were novices. The deep fried mars bar is worth the calories (at least once). Went back a second night during our trip and there was live music. Great atmosphere for drinks with friends!

Not welcoming for kitchen s timing.... We came two successive nights for dinner and a drink. Both times for a bit of time we ve been rejected. The menu for drinks is awesome and the place beautiful. The hospitality matters as well.

I was in Edinburgh meeting old friends, it just so happened that Scotland were playing France for the six nations meaning the atmosphere in the city was rather energetic. We looked for a quiet place and from the window we could see this bar had a lot of character and the menu was interesting so we went in and stayed for a good couple of hours. Staff were fantastic, food was amazing.

The staff are very caring and welcoming, and the food portions are very good! I had the veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. As well as a deep fried mars bar - both were amazing! I would definitely come back!

Very calm and comfy place, food is delicious (I recommend sausage in Yorkshire pudding) and Aino, the amazing waitress that served us, is the most sunny person i’ve ever come across. My boyfriend and I have spent 8 days in Edinburgh and we came here twice. Also the local is very clean, unlike so many in the city. Loved the vibe, the food and - most of all - Aino, really feels like sun in this rainy beautiful city.

Excellent place we had to visit and have a well earned bevvy. Extra fun due to the name as our family are true Harry Potter fans. Can highly recommend their different gin flights. A good way to test different types of gin to get an understanding that there are more than just classic GTs. Food was also good. We had to leave quite early though as we had under aged kids.
