This place is an ideal venue to watch the 6 Nations rugby and to get food. The table service is fantastic and would definitely recommend.

Modest but well rounded selection of beers and an ample whisky selection. Had the lemon pepper salmon for dinner which was delicious. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and Ewan was a star, recommending a great whisky for this novice.

After researching for a dinner venue in central Edinburgh, I am so glad I booked a table at the Piper's Rest. It gets very busy here so definitely prebooked your table. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. Service was brilliant with all the staff friendly and available. Live music was fab in the background and felt like a real Scottish experience. 100% would recommend!

Fantastic place, food is amazinggggg, decorated very well, the first Scottish feeling pub we visited on our whole trip, love their extra info on the menu with Scottish slang etc, do recommend booking early, we originally had tried to a different night but was fully booked by mid day

We popped in for a swifty on a Tuesday evening, on the way back to our apartment - in part because it was freezing cold, and in part because we could hear music playing. I’m so glad we did. The atmosphere was brilliant, the staff were smily and it encouraged us to pop back a couple of days later for lunch. During the day we got a chance to look at all the cool pictures on the walls and try the grub, all of which was superb. Again, lovely serving staff, great food and a lush vibe.

My wife and I along with four friends had a late lunch at The Piper’s rest on Saturday 17/02/24. One of my friends who’s been there before had a 50% off voucher for both food and drinks. Four of us had the steak for our main courses and two had the fish supper. Four also had a dessert. The food was very good, well cooked and tasty. We had no complaints whatsoever with regards to the taste and quality of the food. I don’t eat deep fried food, so the chef was good enough to substitute the chips and onion rings which would have accompanied my steak with three poached eggs. I was very grateful for this as I know the kitchen would have been busy. It’s always good for restaurants to show flexibility like this with regards to customers dietary requirements and I did email ahead to ask if they would be able to accommodate my the substitution of the deep fried food with the eggs. We had a fair bit to drink to make the most of the 50% off. This included a bottle of prosecco, lots of Guinness, some Neck Oil IPA, cocktails and one of my pals finished off with a double single malt whisky. The atmosphere was nice, the place was snug and warm (we were at a table though the back, away from the front door/bar area) and the service was swift and efficient. The total bill prior to the discount was close to £600 but with the discount it ended up being around £94 - £95 per couple. Had we not had the discount voucher, we wouldn’t have had so much to drink, but it was great we did have it as we felt we could extend our visit and make the most of the discount without being hammered so much in the pocket. To summarise, great food, drink and atmosphere in a central location. Flexible kitchen staff willing to accommodate dietary requests and good service. Recommended for both locals and tourists alike.

Went here for the recommended Cullen Skink- ended up having lots of small plates/sharers as well which were all delicious. Iron Bru Chicken Pakora- yum! Our waiter Ewan was very friendly and attentive- Thank you.

This has become our go to spot while in Edinburgh. The food is much better than most of the pubs we've been to in Edinburgh and some twists on classics. Reservations are needed during high seasons and holidays!

Amazing pub great staff and great food. We went for a drink one night and ended up staying till 1 am in the morning. The music and the entertainment was just a great night and then the next day we went for food and it was equally as good. We certainly were well looked after in the restaurant by the staff and two people came to mine. Namely Ewan and Craig, who looked after us really well definitely worth visit.

We visited for food and drinks and we are so glad we did! Our table was booked for 16:30 as we were heading to a show afterwards. Service was brilliant from the moment we walked in. We were welcomed and served by Craig and then later by Ewan who were both fab! We had the Haggis, neeps and tatties, steak pie then we both had a battered mars bar for dessert. Couldn’t say one negative thing about the food, portion size was perfect, food was hot, well presented and came quickly. We will definitely visit again and will hopefully have time it to see some of the live music. Definitely recommend!

Great service from Craig who made us feel our custom was totally appreciated- great food and drinks also - some very quirky choices eg buckfast and irn hru chaser. Worth noting when we tried to book online restaurant was showing as full but we popped in on the off chance and they were able to accommodate us so definitely best to contact them direct. Great location just off the royal mile next to the Ibis hunter square where we were staying. Definitely worthy of 5 stars
