Great food matched by excellent customer service. We had the steak pie and haggis. Very busy spot for a Thursday night, so many people turned away. We were lucky to get a table. Anyways, highly recommend this place.

During our recent visit to The Piper’s Rest in Edinburgh, we were thoroughly impressed by both the food and the service. We ordered The Piper’s Fish Supper and the Wee Mac & Cheese, both of which were outstanding. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, while the mac and cheese was creamy, rich, and wonderfully satisfying—a true comfort dish. For dessert, we chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and it was simply divine. The pudding was moist and decadent, with a perfectly balanced toffee sauce that made every bite unforgettable. The highlight of our experience was the exceptional service provided by Joe. He was warm, attentive, and ensured that everything was just right throughout our visit. His friendly demeanor added to the charm of the evening, making us feel truly welcomed. We highly recommend The Piper’s Rest to anyone visiting Edinburgh. With incredible food, a cozy atmosphere, and outstanding service, it’s both pub and dining experience you won’t want to miss!

I sampled 7 different fish n chips plates across the UK and this was undoubtedly my favorite! Crispy fish on the outside, flaky and smooth on the inside. Tartar sauce was a bit chunky and delightful. The chips were great too! Excellent prices for the quality of food. Good drinks selection too.

Obviously had plenty of seats but didn't accept us.

Dog friendly and the personnel is great- very kind and friendly. However, incredibly overpriced! In fact we paid less money for more food at Duck and Waffle, which is an upscale restaurant, not a pub. The food was typical pub food but lacked in taste and it was very greasy. If you are here for the vibes and you are not bothered about the food, it’s a nice cozy place but not for this price tag.

Friendly restaurant. One of the rare little places where you can eat in peace without loud music and without being overcrowded with people. The food is good and the service pleasant and fast.

£19.50 for a large wine and Guinness. Most expensive round I’ve ever had in the UK. I’m from York and this was more than we pay there. Avoid. Much nice, cheaper pubs.

Absolutely love this place. Booked for dinner for Christmas Eve and it did not disappoint. Fab food and atmosphere! Live music great and even bought one of the t shirts I’d wanted since last visit. Cheers for the Santa hats ! We will be back

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and Eleanor our server was outstanding.

Had the Sunday roast here last week and it was turkey, bonus!, it was a top tier Xmas dinner. Very quick. All nice and hot, which seems to get rarer and rarer these days. Felt all very festive. All the food looks amazing can't wait to return in January to try a pie. Ps makes sure you are hungry when you visit. Thanks 👍

We came only for the drinks, but I can tell you that I will definitely be wanting to come back soon to try out their food. The drink selection was large and provided an abundant selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I love the atmosphere and really bring you that Scottish vibe!

Stopped in for a drink and a snack after a walking tour to warm up for a bit. Excellent service and the Scottish coffees hit the spot! Joe was a great waiter AND he gave us an awesome recommendation for a ramen spot for dinner.

This was a hotspot place . Packed with live music and fun. We asked some questions to one of the female staff and unfortunately she did nt come back with an answer. If you are looking to dance, drink, and hopefully eat, it's a must. Watch out as it's very busy.

staff where extremely rude when we tired to order online and wouldn’t make out £40 order. the tone and attitude was terrible. the girl with highlights in dark, short hair and the ginger boy. wouldn’t go again. we spent £120 and where still so rude.

First time here but won’t be the last. Every aspect of visit from food, atmosphere and service was excellent. Special shout out to Joe who couldn’t be more friendly and helpful

Wow just wow. Visited this place on sat 7th December with friends that were visiting from Worcester… they wanted a bit of Scottish food and atmosphere they were not disappointed.. this was amazing… food 👌.. service 👌and Eleanor was outstanding an asset to your business

Under impressed with poor quality sausage with bacon and then what can only be classed as a Greggs steak bake but missing the steak! Atmosphere and service good but under impressed with the pub food.

The price is not cheap, it is an above average restaurant. The coast to coast🍺 recommended by the blond guy is very delicious, without the bitter taste of beer, with a fruity aroma (probably), and the alcohol content is not high. Praise again to the enthusiastic blond guy!

The food was ok and priced to match the quality. My biggest gripe was the price of drinks well over £6 for a lager and almost £12 for a wine...a tad expensive even for Edinburgh. I must add they do have music on a regular basis, so if you're OK paying for a beer or two to listen to music, then that's your choice.

Quite local,warm, good location restaurant, low rating maybe because my expectation is bit over. I have never had a tougher steak in my life😂, Too hard to chew, It's not the chef's fault, of course it's the cow's fault. Chips is looks ok but not crispy, Only “eatable” is the whiskey sauce. The pie… It should be the signature dish however the steak tastes like canned meat. And bit salty… Service is nice and asked customer donate $2 for Christmas which already added into the bill (of course it can be remove if you sound it) After paid $65 for this, we finish our dinner with another restaurant.

Chloe was a great server, very attentive and very charismatic. Answered all our questions and was very attentive. Food was great, Chloe answered our questions regarding food and recommended a few things. Overall great experience! Definitely recommend this place and Chloe is a the server to go with.

We were early for our booking but they shuffled things around in order for us to have a table. Our server was mainly Lorena, she was great. Very helpful and friendly as were the other two servers. Food was delicious, couldn’t fault it. Live music too. Great place. Don’t hesitate to book. We will definitely be back.

Starving after a long day, I stumbled into Piper’s Rest for dinner, and I’m so glad I did! The bartender greeted me warmly and quickly helped me find a table for one. The young man who served me was incredibly helpful with his recommendations, and I decided on the famous meat pie and the haggis appetizer. Both dishes were absolutely phenomenal—rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was pure comfort, and I left feeling completely satisfied. Piper’s Rest is a gem, and I’d return in a heartbeat!

Don't understand the fantastic reviews. My wife had a burger and I had steak and chips. Nothing really special about it

My husband and I stumbled across this place while walking around Edinburgh. It’s so convenient just off the royal mile. We loved the food here so much we came back the next night! I loved the cullen skink bread bowl (this was a starter but definitely big enough I made it my main course). My husband enjoyed both the fish and chips one evening and bangers and mash the other. We both loved the onion rings and irn bru mayo! My husband doesn’t even like onions so that’s saying something! They also have Old Mout Cider which I’d discovered on this trip and loved but sadly can’t get in the US. The atmosphere is fun and they do have live music, although the timing didn’t work out for us to be around while that was going on. We’ll be making this a regular stop every time we’re able to make it back to Edinburgh!

Incredible little pub snack in the middle of Old Town. Recommending to me by locals as “true home cooking” and they were right. My server Ben was awesome and recommended a dish b/c it was what Scots are raised on and tastes just like his granny. Highly recommend.

The frying scotsman burger was incredibly dry and flavourless. I can't understand the good food reviews for this place. Staff were great and beer was nice. Prices are a little too high for what the place is. Avoid if possible.

I had a fantastic experience at the pub, largely thanks to Pete. From the moment we walked in, he was incredibly warm and welcoming, immediately making us feel at home. Not only did he provide excellent service, but Pete also took the time to recommend some drinks and food items that turned out to be great choices. His suggestions really enhanced our visit, and his friendly attitude made the entire experience memorable. It’s clear he genuinely cares about providing a great customer experience, and I’ll definitely be returning because of people like him.

A great bar in an absolutely traditional style in the middle of the city. Great feeling with live music with very tasty drinks and nice, fast bartenders.

Stopped in for a quick bite and beer and was met with much more than that! Food was good, a great introduction to hagass. Pete was our server and his effort to make us feel comfortable and explain everything in detail was amazing. His service was as good as the food and he made us feel very welcomed. Lovely atmosphere in the pipers rest. We were served by Joe who was very attentive and also laid back too. We walked-in and were seated straight away. We stayed for a drink and a late evening snack (just a couple small plates) chips and gravy and roasted vegetables - delicious. Thanks 🙂

Great atmosphere and service. You do really need to improve your meal standards, the worst meal we have had in Edinburgh. Burger bun was cold, no dressing on salad in the burger and no sauce on the Angus pattie, burger had no flavor at all. You really need to use a better cheese in your bugger as well. My wife had the salmon, the plate was full of broccoli and the part of the dish that should be the hero was very bland, so salmon also didn't get a pass mark.

Joe was super attentive and sweet. The Cullen skink was so comforting and great for the cold weather. The steak pie breading was extremely soft and delicious. Would def recommend this place and would 10/10 come back!

Great place on a chilly afternoon for a few pints and some snacks. We enjoyed the chicken pakoras so much we ordered seconds halfway through the first order. Our server Ewan was a delight!

When a Scottish pub divides its menus into Scran and Swally, you know it is the authentic thing! Great food, awesome service (uniforms with the Declaration of Arbroath on them), no wonder The Piper’s Rest was packed! Best to make reservations.

Every time we come upto Edinburgh, we stop for breakfast in Pipers , great food . Doesn't matter what we've ordered all great , atmosphere in the evening is really good , live music good drinks and friendly staff. Joe looks after you well .

Stored in for a late night drink and it was prefect! Live Irish music, good people, not crowded, and great drinks.

The food was good. The stuff was nice, most of them, except one waiter who called my behaviour “extremely rude”. What happened? When he asked me if I was enjoying the meal I answered him in his native language, which is not English and he just walked away without answering (personally I think that was extremely rude). Later I spoke with him in English and asked if he was not allowed using other languages than English… and that was the moment when he said that to him it was extremely rude 🫠 Call me crazy, but I think that having extra skills and using it is not a bad thing. Btw. the only people there was him and I, so no one would have been offended by our conversation in another language.

Restaurant next to the famous Royal Mile. Friendly staff. Very good IPA beer We tried the famous Steak Pie, the spicy chicken and the macaroni and cheese. Everything was very tasty, even the cake and the toffee pudding. After 8pm it tends to be full so I suggest you go earlier

They don't call them famous meat pies for nothing. Great beer and spirit list too
