A great bar in an absolutely traditional style in the middle of the city. Great feeling with live music with very tasty drinks and nice, fast bartenders.

We heart Pete. Talks a lot but told good stories and was very kind

Stopped in for a quick bite and beer and was met with much more than that! Food was good, a great introduction to hagass. Pete was our server and his effort to make us feel comfortable and explain everything in detail was amazing. His service was as good as the food and he made us feel very welcomed. Definitely worth stopping in and grabbing a bite! Slainte Mhath!

Joe was super attentive and sweet. The Cullen skink was so comforting and great for the cold weather. The steak pie breading was extremely soft and delicious. Would def recommend this place and would 10/10 come back!

Great atmosphere and service. You do really need to improve your meal standards, the worst meal we have had in Edinburgh. Burger bun was cold, no dressing on salad in the burger and no sauce on the Angus pattie, burger had no flavor at all. You really need to use a better cheese in your bugger as well. My wife had the salmon, the plate was full of broccoli and the part of the dish that should be the hero was very bland, so salmon also didn't get a pass mark.

Food was unbelievable. Had the steak pie with some mac and cheese to share. Atmosphere was great and service was awesome. Eleanor was really attentive and helpful! Would highly recommend to anyone in Edinburgh!

Lovely atmosphere in the pipers rest. We were served by Joe who was very attentive and also laid back too. We walked-in and were seated straight away. We stayed for a drink and a late evening snack (just a couple small plates) chips and gravy and roasted vegetables - delicious. Thanks 🙂

When a Scottish pub divides its menus into Scran and Swally, you know it is the authentic thing! Great food, awesome service (uniforms with the Declaration of Arbroath on them), no wonder The Piper’s Rest was packed! Best to make reservations.

Great place on a chilly afternoon for a few pints and some snacks. We enjoyed the chicken pakoras so much we ordered seconds halfway through the first order. Our server Ewan was a delight!

Every time we come upto Edinburgh, we stop for breakfast in Pipers , great food . Doesn't matter what we've ordered all great , atmosphere in the evening is really good , live music good drinks and friendly staff. Joe looks after you well .

Stored in for a late night drink and it was prefect! Live Irish music, good people, not crowded, and great drinks.

The food was good. The stuff was nice, most of them, except one waiter who called my behaviour “extremely rude”. What happened? When he asked me if I was enjoying the meal I answered him in his native language, which is not English and he just walked away without answering (personally I think that was extremely rude). Later I spoke with him in English and asked if he was not allowed using other languages than English… and that was the moment when he said that to him it was extremely rude 🫠 Call me crazy, but I think that having extra skills and using it is not a bad thing. Btw. the only people there was him and I, so no one would have been offended by our conversation in another language.

Food somewhat weak due to some overheated dishes and very friendly staff in a nice place in the most touristy part of the city. Without further ado

An amazing pub with the best staff and atmosphere. We had our wedding party dine here and it was the best experience. From the live music to friendly staff. Couldn't have wanted a better time.

Restaurant next to the famous Royal Mile. Friendly staff. Very good IPA beer We tried the famous Steak Pie, the spicy chicken and the macaroni and cheese. Everything was very tasty, even the cake and the toffee pudding. After 8pm it tends to be full so I suggest you go earlier

They don't call them famous meat pies for nothing. Great beer and spirit list too

Izzi really set the tone for our welcome meal to Edinburgh. She was kind, attentive and provided lots of recommendations outside of just the normal tourist activities. Food was great and beer was cold!

The place was lovely and Pete and Emma treated us very well, Pete knew all about whiskey and give us the best recommendations

I really enjoy having Pete attending us and explaining all about Whisky ! We loved him !!

Great service. Food was a nice introduction into traditional Scottish food. But it did feel a little more contemporary.

Gem of a place. We were in Edinburgh for a couple of days and were looking for a decent place to try varieties of scotch whiskes. It was a great atmosphere and everything was amazing - the food, people and the staff. Would definitely visit next time we are in Edinburgh as well.

I was only there in the evening for a beer and a good round of atmospheric music - until closing time :) A great pub with great staff.

Food came out quick and was really good! We got the steak pie, sunday roast, haggis neeps and tatties, pipers platter and they were all delicious!!

Awesome spot, great music! We went both nights we were in town.

Avoid as a vegetarian (that might be obvious). Ordered a spinach and chickpea salad a few weeks back. It turned up without spinach. The waiter claimed it 'was spinach', then it 'it was in there' and I just didn't realise it, then they 'had run out'. Pretty frustrating. The wife's haggis was great though, so there you go. Suspect it's a good stop for hearty food if you are a meat eater.

Bit unfriendly staff when you ask for a table ok, first attempt we were told no table at all ok no problem second attempt we had better “luck” we got a table. Sadly they mess up our order so my husband got it first and when he finished I got my burger, it was bad, the situation and the burger :(

This is the only place I’d recommend trying Haggis if you’re on the fence about it. I tried it a few times at other places and it was not as good as it was here. The salmon, steak pie and old fashioned were all 5 stars in my book. Would come back to Scotland just to eat here again!

We visited during the morning of a day trip to Edinburgh and liked the decor straight away. We were the only ones there which makes it understandable that the kitchen was shut but man…we really wanted to try a deep fried mars bar but were denied - sad face. We parched our thirsty throats with beer and cokes for the kids. I should think at the right time of day this place will be buzzing as all the tables had ‘reserved’ placards on them for the upcoming lunch time so seeing as we’d not reserved a table it was nice to be able to pitstop there.

I did a bit of a mess with the whole booking situation. I didnt booked for that night, but somehow for the month that have to come! They still managed to let me and my friend sit, and celebrate her birthday 🥹💕🎇🎉

The food was quite average but decent enough, it could have done with a little more delicacy and less overcooking, but then again, this is the pub food style of the UK and Scotland. And the atmosphere with the live music was really fun and the staff helpful and friendly. So, really nothing bad to say about it and I'd happily come again!

Authentic Scottish food that was delicious.Ewan was our server who treated us very well and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Highly recommend. We had the chicken pie and the steak pie with whisky ice cream for dessert.

Reservations are necessary if you want to eat here in the evening, while at lunch it is not so crowded. Ewan served us and was really very kind and friendly, stopping with all the customers to exchange a few words.

Had our first meal in Edinburgh last evening at the Pipers Rest. Food was amazing and only outdone by the service provided by Chloe. She was GREAT!!

A super good experience. Really nice service and the staff were good at explaining a bit about the menu as I didn't know much about Scottish food. We tried their salmon and haggis, both of which were excellent. However, the salmon dish could have used a little more flavor. The haggis was really nice. We had to wait in line for 10 minutes as the place was full so it's clearly a popular place. Nice selection of beers. The price is a bit on the high end, but you also get some solid portions.

Finn is excellent. He made great recommendations and is very friendly and accommodating. I also witnessed him chase down a patron to return their belongings. Outstanding sevice. Thank you for a great time

This was the best service I had during my time in the city. Laura checked in frequently and was overall really helpful. The food was amazing too. On future trips, this will be a must stop spot.

Food entertainment and drinks perfect good music and service

First night in Edinburgh and we wanted something lively and Scottish and we happened upon this place. What luck. The food was very good and the service was truly first rate. Our booth was comfortable and the live music completed our goal. Ask for Eleanor because she's the best server and food advisor they have.

We got lucky to catch it on a night when @denniskennedy_music was playing. Brilliant!

Walking near the Royal Mile of Edinburgh, right in the center, we came across this restaurant that looks like a typical Scottish pub. We ate excellent dishes: my parents boiled salmon salad, while I chose "Balmoral chicken", a very rich dish consisting of a pie filled with chicken, bacon and "haggis", plus side vegetables. Tennent's couldn't be missing. The staff is also very kind and helpful, you can also use a water dispenser at any time. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed the food. The mussels were great (BUT they needed to be debearded more thoroughly). Hagas dish was wonderful. And they had some bottles of zero alcohol beer. Ewan was very friendly.

Think we were the only Scottish people there amongst all the tourists but the food was well above what might have been expected for a tourist restaurant. Chicken pie was particularly tasty but we all really enjoyed all our food and drinks - not bad value either. Great service from Craig too. Will definitely be back.

We had Balmoral chicken pie, minced meat and tatties and we couldn’t miss the sticky toffee pudding, scrumptious😍 and Sarah was really kind and helpful; we’ll be back here soon!

Friendly service and typical pub atmosphere. The steak pie, roasted roots and mash were fabulous. Large portion - I took leftovers home. Service was friendly but a little inattentive. On a warm summer night, it was uncomfortable to eat inside, but on a cool night, it would be amazing.
