Excellent food and service. Tried the haggis panini

They were patient with me being indecisive choosing from the 2millions combinations It’s perfect for me to have a warm wrap in the rainy windy summer day here. Amazing price and let’s hope they can keep it as a lot of people don’t really have a big budget for food anymore.

Perfectly situated a few feet from the back door of the Travelodge and open at 7am👍. Sausage and egg roll was excellent and good value. The coffee and cappuccino needs work, get yourself a good coffee machine and charge a bit more and you will make a fortune.

My favourite option for lunch on a workday! Good, decent food at fair prices. Always know what you’re getting. Simple and honest.

Wir haben mal eben im Vorbeigehen ein Sandwich geholt, und es war superlecker! Guter Tipp um schnell den kleinen Hunger zu stillen.

Well patronised by locals, I found the staff friendly and enjoyed the well-filled bacon rolls and coffee. The also sell cold drinks and cartons of milk if you ask, saving a trip to the nearest mini-mart.

The service and food is great and the people are very nice and home-y

We visited twice for breakfast recently with our 4 year old. Great prices, seriously we had almost given up finding somewhere local to the hotel that wasn't going to charge a small fortune for breakfasts, really nice food, and friendly staff. The black pudding was brilliant, why can't everywhere sell black pud that tastes of something?!

Delightful little shop, mostly for takeaway. They serve breakfast and lunch fare and close mid-afternoon. There are so many possible items that your head may explode trying to decide what to order. The staff is patient and will guide you along through the options once you begin to decide. For example, when we selected a bread for a sandwich, the counter person showed us all the other options. And when we decided on fillings, she listed other items which might complement our selections. After all of that the food was yummy. The soup was particularly delicious. Worth a detour.

Really lovely little sandwich shop. Great, friendly service and very fast service also. Coffee was great and the Sausage sandwich was delightful! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat and a coffee.

Fantastic little sandwich bar - great bacon rolls and coffee. Would have loved to try the "Top knot" roll but was heading for lunch later so thought better of it. I'm not sure how they stuff everything into a roll but it sounds brilliant. A great find just off the beaten track of the main streets. And just along the road from the Oxford Bar of Rebus fame.

Many people dislike thistle sandwiches, citing them as "too expensive for what they are" and "bristly, left my mouth bleeding", but as a Scotsman I recommend that you try this delicacy with an open mind and something to soothe the jaggy aftertaste of fresh thistle. To those who complain about the price I would warn against try to pick and prepare your own thistles unless you have someone with you who knows what they're looking for. An unripe thistle may be only slightly unpalatable going down, but your stomach will struggle to dissolve the plant fibre sufficiently before it starts coming out the other end. Trust me, that's not what you want. So, all in all these folk do a very reasonable price for a jaggy weed in a bun. I think they does bacon rolls too.

Get the breakfast here for an easy and affordable choice. I got a 4 item breakfast...you pick off a list of about 10 choices. Filling and decent food. Get the tea and get coffee somewhere else if you're a coffee snob like me!

Got a tip about this place from the hotel guy. Inexpensive filling breakfast. Pretty good selection for a small shop. Mostly take away. One 4 seat table. Breakfast deal with coffee for under £4. Great for the price! Long list of sandwiches if you're not looking for breakfast. Very casual.

The food from this place is exactly what you'd expect from a sandwich shop - hearty and cheap. The two girls on the till are fantastic, always chatty and friendly and I have never had a bad soup or sandwich. Great value for a filling lunch.

I go there often on my lunch breaks since I work nearby. Most of my colleagues do the same. Thistle makes delicious sandwiches rolls and panini. The soup of the day is nice and fresh as well. Nice place to fill your stomach with yummy food.

Recientemente pasamos un par de semanas en Edimburgo. Nuestro apartamento estaba en Thistle Street y el Thistle Street Bar Sandwich se convirtió rápidamente en un comienzo feliz de nuestros días. Este es el tipo de lugar frecuentado por gente de trabajo local, de camino a su trabajo o en un descanso. Tienen una gran variedad de sándwiches recién hechos, huevos ensalada, tocino, jamón, queso, y así sucesivamente. Normalmente comimos una proteína pic hechos a la orden salchichas, jamón y huevo frito sandwich, que cuesta dos libras y media. Nos gustó mucho más de sus sándwiches aquellos que habíamos comprado en la tienda de bocadillos de la cadena a la vuelta de la esquina. Mucha gente tomó sus sándwiches, pero comimos en la mesa de esquina. El alegre mujeres jóvenes detrás del mostrador nos conversamos cada mañana para saber donde estábamos explorando ese día, y ofreció asesoría en sus deliciosas Scots chapurrear.

Good prices and the food is also good. Breakfast rolls are amazing, but the baked potatos at lunch time can be hit or miss. Sometimes a bit too hard

Norry is aggressive and abusive. He uses his disabled badge to make sandwich deliveries and when challenged claims he has 6 months to live before picking up two huge heavy trays of packed lunches and staggering off and up 2 flights of stairs to Edinburgh language school. That ll kill ya

We visited for breakfast and had the Scottish Breakfast. The black pudding and haggis were great but the rest was pretty average. Coffee was terrible but the service was really good and the outdoor courtyard was lovely.

Un lugar precioso, lo recomiendo encarecidamente si estás planeando comer con un presupuesto ajustado. Visité Edimburgo mes pasado por una semana. Me alegré cuando descubrí que este pequeño lugar. La comida es muy barato + muy buen gusto. El personal amable y educado. varias comidas de Conseguimos ofertas ( £3,60 -3,80 libras ) esa manera de que no necesitas gastar una fortuna para comer en la cafetería del castillo de Edimburgo o otra atracción turística.

These guys do the most amazing breakfast rolls - made to order. Same with their lunchtime offerings - daily specials and all freshly made on the premises. Never had a bad experience here (and the staff are really friendly as well)

I heard about this place from a lot of people during my studies at the University of Edinburgh, so i was intrigued to visit it. The service was amazing, the people in this family-run business were really friendly, and surprisingly the prices were really low!! I got a sandwich, which had that homemade taste, not like those you get from supermarkets. I would really recommend it to anyone that wants to taste what the locals seem to prefer - and adore!

We stopped here when we were worn out from walking all over the town. They were very busy and we were lucky to get a table. Food was nice and fresh and the coffee was good.

My partner and I popped in here for lunch one day. The staff were very nice and the food was fast. We got two pannini's, 2 portions of chips, two drinks and two cookies. It costs around £10, which is really good. Food was lovely but you get big portions so we would probably share in future. Also, it gets very, very busy at lunch time, so you may want to go either slightly earlier or later than the lunch hour slot.Would definitely go again!

I was over with my wife and new boy from Adelaide last christmas and my mate and me went in here for a tuna roll and I think he got a salami baguette. It was a generous serving and really hit the spot. Seems a really friendly little place with dozens of office workers from the local businesses rushing in and out. Definitely a good atmosphere. I'll be popping in here again to see Norrie next time I'm back in Edinburgh. What a great place for it too - right in the heart of the new town.

I LOVE getting lunch here! Situated in the heart of Edinburgh city center's New Town, this tiny shop has a great selection of rolls, fillings, sides, drinks, and fresh, homemade desserts. Take-away is most common and convenient, as there is only one table in the shop. Prices are GREAT! I usually get a sandwich, crisps, fruit, and either a drink or cup of soup for £3.30. Everyone is so friendly and personable; the cashier remembered me after just a couple of visits!
