I met my wife in this pub in 1988. We were back for the festival and too a nostalgic trip to the Judge. It is small and full of all sorts of characters and but with a wonderful homely atmosphere. The McEwans 70/. was served to perfection. Go there and expect a good welcome and a good pint.

Off the High st, - just down from the castle, - through a 'close' ( narrow enclosed lane between the buildings ) - opening up to a courtyard where there are a few tables and chairs outside and then down steps to this basement old pub. seemed a bit dark when first going in after the brightness of the summer day outside, but very characterful, with beams and painted low ceilings. - small but quaint and worth a visit , definitely worth a wee visit if in that area, although not suitable for wheelchairs inside ( toilets also upstairs ) - not sure if they do food, but pleasant to stop at for a wee drink. ( the click to rate is not working but I would give this a 4 out of 5 )

I cannot leave Edinburgh without writing a review of this pub. A real gem, very friendly staff who take time, good prices especially for where it is situated, a bit of history.more importantly I have revisited this pub several times to meet friends/family; read and/or meet visitors in a very friendly ambience. Highly recommend for a piece of weakness (outside the throngs).

We stumbled across this little pub on the way back from Edinburgh Castle as we were trying to escape the crowds and have a pit stop. They offer a good selection of beers and wine and have a menu although we didn't look at it. We sat outside in the courtyard which was just lovely. We went there on a pub tour and found it to be the most picturesque and with the best vibe. Went back for a whiskey tasting, trying out 6 single malts recommended by the bartenders. It is situated just off the Royal Mile in one of its "closes". The interior is cozy with a low ceiling with exposed beams. We felt it would not have been surprising if a couple of hobbits walked in, or a character like Hagrid. This is a must-visit in Edinburgh!

Two friends and I stopped in the Jolly Judge on our first night in Edinburgh and it was a great spot. The pub is very cozy with its fireplace and very Scottish interior. There is a great selection of Scottish beers as well. I would definitely recommend stopping in here for a pint and warming up by the fire one evening while you're in Edinburgh!

We went in for a pre dinner drink as was my birthday. It was a small pub with an open fire so was very cosy and atmospheric. I wasn't expecting to get Prosecco but to our surprise was only £3.90 a glass! Will return again.

This is one of my favorite places in Edinburgh. A hidden away pub right off the Royal Mile, the Jolly Judge always has a great selection of local brews.

We were very lucky to be staying in an apartment close by during our visit to Edinburgh. This pub was a great find. Busy but not too crowded on a Saturday night. Really nice wee pub with great drinks and a cosy atmosphere.

Only just saw this bar as it was tucked away down an alleyway. What a lovely find. Down some steps and into a small bar with a roaring fire going (needed after a cold walk around the city). Very busy, so a nice atmosphere. I had a coffee, the boyfriend, a cask ale (very nice apparently). Nice hour sat by the fire. Oh and don't forget to look up at the ceiling!

Walked in and felt like i had walked into someones living room in their house. Had one drink which was fine but we had arrived a bit late so we didnt get a chance to sit down and enjoy it properly as they were closing up. Would like to go back during the day to see what its like
