Great comedy with Ray Bradshaw.

First time in the Waverley Bar to see Scottish comedian Stuart Mitchell perform his show Working Progress for Edinburgh's Festival Fringe Comedy. An old Edinburgh bar that has been in the same family since the 1920's, small but also has seating out on street. Never had food although it is served, couple of drinks before heading up stairs for show. Staff very friendly and I like the aged decor, it suits the Waverley Bar. Stuart Mitchell was hilarious and I would highly recommend catching one of his shows.

Excellent bar in a central location in the city and home to the Guid Crack storytelling club which runs the last Friday of the month. Both the club and the pub are well worth checking out.

The woman who wears it is wonderful

Visit this pub completely by accident, the landlord, Dave, was so welcoming. He spent time telling us about local history, Whiskeys and gins. The place is a lovely hidden away quirky gem, that we will definitely be going back to.

Superb drinkers pub just off The Royal Mile.

📍The Waverley, St. Mary’s Street, Edinburgh A nice and pleasant Victorian style bar off the beaten track of the Royal Mile. A decent beer selection, once again an abundance of whisky choices. I’d definitely recommend if you’d like a quieter pint in the middle of the tourist hotspots.

Fantastic place. Easily accommodated our group of six. Sat at the bar and a close by table. The bartender was great and gave us a nice history lesson of Edinburgh. Highly recommend

This pub made me fall in love with Edinburgh! We sat at the bar and struck up conversation with the most wonderful regulars… I must admit if I lived nearby I’d be there all the time too. We did tasting flight and had some beer and if I could teleport back there now I would!

This happened to be my favorite part of my two week trip to Scotland. I got to listen to some incredible folk music in this bar. magic happened that evening, and my soul was healed. Thank you.

I don't think they do food. The bar staff are fab. It's a small bar and the smell from the mens toilets are strongest definitely worth a visit.

A whisky bar, pure and simple old fashioned pub. Amazing choice of whiskies, lovely staff, really friendly and welcoming. The clientele are an eclectic mix but all cheerful and happy to talk. So impressed we had to visit twice

So glad to have stopped for a whiskey tasting. I wish I caught the bartender's name (barman working yesterday around 3pm - shoutout and thank you to you!), because he was fantastic. Friendly and shared a ton of info about the whiskey while making it approachable and enjoyable. Some places can be pretentious about it, and this was not. So welcoming and interesting. Would highly recommend and hope to be back!

Found this excellent little pub, just to the side of the Royal Mile and came back the following night for more. The bartender, Kier, was very friendly and happy to chat when not required to serve and his Whisky recommendation was spot on. A couple of hours well spent and an easy recommendation. No live music during our visits but they offer this too!

Not a food pub so I can’t rate that. However it’s a proper pub, quality, friendly staff with superb whisky knowledge. A great sit at the bar proper pub.

Really lovely pub near The Royal Mile. Came here to do a "Whiskey Flight", tasting three different Malts from specific regions. Instead of trying to sell us just anything, the friendly and very competent bartender asked us what we like about Whiskey and recommended a lovely selection of drinks. Had a nice conversation and tour through the Malts, highly recommended! Nice and cozy interior, my new favorite place in Edinburgh for a pint and a wide variety of Single Malts.

Grand auld Edinburgh pub slightly of High Street, reputed to be where Billy Connelly stared out presumably during the Fringe.

Awesome atmosphere, staff friendly and attentive the old style bar is very fitting to how you feel for a nice casual drink

Ask for David if you want to learn about the wonders of scotch. We spent an hour one Waverley and got a PHD in scotch.

Amazing atmosphere and service. Just don't sit next to the mens toilets, the door wafts pee-smell at you everytime someone enters or exits. Otherwise a wonderful pub, definitely recommend.

Went for a fringe show and had a great time, lovely staff, fair priced drinks, and an excellent whisky selection, the barman Cameron was very helpful and was quick to recommend a dram from their extensive library of bottles. Would come back happily for a few drams, very recommended

Great atmosphere, a classic fringe venue upstairs, friendly staff and most importantly, fair prices which is a pleasure surprise in Edinburgh.

Had a great time here taking in Ralph Brown’s fringe comedy routine (Ralpha Male) and a pint here at the Waverley. (I would agree that anyone who says they have rescued a dog from Santorini by taking them to Aberdeen, maybe didn’t consider the dog’s perspective.) Cool spot!

The drinks choices are limited, although that's not necessarily a very bad thing. I used to come here when the old gent owned and run the place, and it always sort of refused to conform to "modern pub standards" -- again, no bad thing. It's lost maybe a little of that "original charm" but it's also actually nicer inside (cleaner, better maintained, no secret unclean toilets behind the old gas fireplace). So it's somewhere inbetween the old "I'll do what I want" stepping back in time vibe, and the modern "what's nice" vibe.

I stopped in here for a quick drink and a rest on a day where I was hanging out around the Royal Mile. The barman was pretty friendly. I just got a rum and coke and enjoyed it at a table outside since it was a sunny summer day. It's a nice spot off the RM to people watch or there's spots inside to enjoy your drink. My parents used to hang out there when they were younger so would like to go back with my Mum next time we're in Edinburgh.

Great little bar and I was lucky to visit when they had live music. Great selection of whisky and the beer is good. Ask for the whisky list if you want to learn a bit about the different regions and flavor profiles offered.

This place is just amazing. We went for whisky tasting (5/5, such a cool guy he was) and overstayed as it was raining and the place is so nice. On the next day we had to come for a pint and came across what seemed to be local folk group rehersal or just casual Sunday gig.

Came here as a tourist and hab a quick drink in the evening. A typical pub. Good drinks. Food was not available anymore, we were to late.

Best pub iv been in for years. Visiting my home town and this was just great. Actually I was at the Heretics gathering upstairs and had a brilliant night of Scottish poetry and music.

Small pub with a great selection of drinks, especially liquors!

Bartender had excellent recommendations on Scotch selections and for where the locals eat off the Royal Mile. It’s definitely worth taking the few steps off the beaten path to enjoy a pint or a dram with the locals.

A locals bar with great traditional music, it brought tears to my eyes! Kevin Gore was my host that day and brought me to the Waverly. Highly recommend him for a musical pub tour. He is also a local well known musician. You can find him on airbnb experiences for Edinburgh. Everyone here was so kind and welcoming. Thank you Waverly for having me!

Absolutely belter of a wee local...very inviting and good crowd...sitting with a pint watching the young lassies play scrabble...I'll make an effort to go back up from Glasgow just to sit and have a pint...wonderful...sending my brother in law to watch the footie Saturday stag do...Best pub to go to in Edinburgh...brilliant

Lovely setting and extremely efficient and friendly service . I am not really into crepes but have to say that the food was excellent. Premises were very bright and comfortable

Nice pub good beer and good music playing

Well this was a great find! We wanted to go to the World's End, but they rather abruptly told us they were closed when we walked in. So we went next door to this gem. Behind the bar was Sophie, who instantly made us feel welcome. She was very pleasant, engaging, and knowledgeable about many whiskies on offer (more than enough, but not pretentious) and was happy to guide us to ones we'd like. She even opened the bottle that had been there untouched for years just because we were curious! (It wasn't very nice!). The rest, however, were, and were also reasonably priced. This is a proper pub and I'd heartily recommend it; especially if Sophie is serving!

We were staying nearby for a month and ended up making The Waverly our regular spot. David is knowledgable and always made us feel welcome. Didn't matter what time of day or day of week it was, we always had a great experience. Looking forward to stopping by when we return to Edinburgh!

Great bar in Old Edinburgh. If you are a whiskey fan then you are in luck. They have a great selection, and our bartender was so knowledgeable. Just a good vibe to recharge before continuing your journey, or you could sit there for a while enjoying a seat at the bar.

Great place for Whisky Fans! Wide range for every taste. Very friendly and helpful staff. We did not a regular tasting but explained to the bartender which Whiskys we like or not and let the bartender choose. We will definitely visit again 🥃
