They have a tiny outdoor seating , good for nice sunny days but DO NOT ORDER THEIR MARGERITA! it s served in a short ball glass, filled with ICE to the brim and hardly any drink in it , such a cheapskate , charged £25 for 2 margaritas !!!! HIGHWAY ROBBERY!

The food was amazing. Every dish we had was fab. The service was great!

We were disappointed that for the price, the atmosphere was very poor. We were put in a small room that was extremely bright and loud. All the overhead lights were on and there was no music, only all the other patrons talking extremely loud - it sort of bounced around the walls. At one point our server misheard us and we were brought something by mistake, when we pointed it out, the server apologized and said it was on the house but it ended up on the bill. We did not want to stay there any longer so we just paid it and left. Great food though.

Great dinner for the first night in Edinburgh. Stem broccoli with spicy jam like sauce were our favorite.

Marcella's warm welcome at the entrance was a relaxed start as we still took an undecided look into the restaurant. She then gave us a spontaneous tour of the chicly styled restaurant, which, as expected, was still empty in the afternoon. Delicious meals can be enjoyed on 3 levels and the dishes are designed to be shared. We chose a small raised niche with a floor-to-ceiling window and a view of the Royal Mile and were also served very attentively by Marcella and gave competent advice on the wine selection. Being served by a native of Edinburgh brings with it the bonus of getting some very nice local information and being able to immerse yourself in the thoughts and lives of the local residents. The evening was like visiting friends. We ordered an original vegetable combination with beetroot, kale and seeds, delicious hot olives, cod in batter and later salmon and salmon trout. All dishes came beautifully presented and with delicious dressings, dips or sauces. The excellent wine selection leaves nothing to be desired. The farewell was warm and we would like to go there again. A lovely holiday experience of an aesthetic and friendly kind.

Don’t hesitate to discover what Scottish gastronomy is. This restaurant offers fine and tasty cuisine with fresh produce in the form of tapas, which allows you to discover a multitude of dishes and flavors. I highly recommend it.

Kind of Expensive and somewhat fancy.

An amazing restaurant. The Rib Eye steak was cooked to absolute perfection with the most delicious sauce. The broccolini had a beautiful sweet chilli type of sauce. I can’t recommend this place enough. Worth every cent.

Had a terrific dining experience here over Easter. Staff were very friendly and attentive, and the dining room was elegant and classy. The food was sensational. The rib eye steak was perfect, melt in your mouth and the perfect level of salty, and loved the peppercorn sauce with it. Haggis bon bons are a must try. Will be recommending to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Food was amazing, i especially enjiyed the oysters with a crunch. Servers were delightful. Prices are very reasonable. Make sure to reserve ahead.

We ate here on the taxi driver's recommendation, and it wasn't bad, but it's for couples, or at least there were only couples there that day. We ordered Haggis Bon Bones, and I didn't like it very much. When I found out what it was... The chicken breast was delicious, and the dish was beautiful.

We had a very pleasant lunch on Wednesday. The food was great, well executed, and very tasty. The staff were excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable. A very good experience.

Went with some friends for dinner and we all really enjoyed it, the food was just out of this world, and the service from the staff made you feel so welcome, this has to be one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh, can't wait to go again, thank you everyone for an amazing experience!

Our first ever visit to Angels with Bagpipes due to the purchase of a recent Itison deal. It’s certainly somewhere that we would definitely go back for more. The restaurant area is small with a nice outlook over a large sunny courtyard. We started with a starter of Beetroot and one of Chilli Chicken. This was followed by a main of Chicken with veg and a Sirloin steak with chips then two desserts. The food was all very well presented and very flavoursome. This all washed down with a nice bottle of red wine. Unfortunately we were seated beside a lady who for the whole two hours we were there spoke very loudly about her divorce ! It didn’t surprise me that she was going through this but the bitter conversation ruined the atmosphere. Anyway we look forward to a return visit hopefully with different customers!

Was a happy surprise! The staff was super friendly, the venison carpaccio was really good with the tahini. The wine selection even small was top notch!

This is very close to a fine dining experience. The staff is great and will cater to your every need. The food takes AGES to come though. And the small plates are small. As much as I understand the concept of fine dining and the hours that goes into it and the level of expertise bought in by the chef's, personally I wouldn't go back because you can only go here to nibble, not to eat. They've done a decent job with the flavour profiles. The salmon was very very satly and just very difficult to consume. Good experience, but definitely not worth the price.

Food of the highest quality that is thoughtfully cooked and presented without being pretentious. Where chilli is used it adds warmth and pepperiness without being too hot. Where food needs to be browned it is caramelised without being burned. Charred food is just slightly smoky without being blackened. The fish flakes apart in your mouth and its skin is so crispy you can snap it between your teeth. The gnocchi are like mini fondants. The staff are helpful and friendly, the atmosphere is relaxing, the place is clean. The wine is delicious and the whisky selection is good.

This place would give you a feeling on fine dine experience (at least the food) at a cheaper rate. The small plates are a bit small and not fulfilling. All the food tastes good (a shout out to the Beef Tartar and the crab cake), but it's not very filling. The staff service was excellent and they took special care of us as one of us had a littany of allergies. The food did come out a bit late and we were all hungry, but the place was packed to an extent.

As we wandered up the royal mile we fancied a small bite and two ladies were leaving who said “you have to go in” so we did. Great call - although it was pretty much between services, so it was quiet, we had superb food and lovely attentive service. Room isn’t large and pretty unassuming but a sweet courtyard view helps. Fantastic oysters with a sauce that didn’t spoil the taste of the sea like some, delicious venison carpaccio, fab haggis bonbons - I just wish we’d been able to eat more! Will definitely be back again

Last minute booking, so were seated in the smaller area at the front of the restaurant, which was a bit cramped on one side. However, service was great and they accommodated my Gluten & Dairy intolerances as best they could, which was hugely appreciated! My trout was delicious and y hose who had steaks, said they were fantastic. Would definitely go back.

First time at Angels and will certainly be back. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive and the food was fantastic. Loved to see a small Menu with great quality of food. The wine was fabulous too.

We had a lunchtime menu.. the crab on crumpet was a real highlight and utterly unctuous, and the sea trout was beautifully cooked. Lovely setting in the heart of Edinburgh and well worth a trip. My third visit s d always on point.

This restaurant does not look very auspicious from the outside, but is definitely worth visiting for the food. It has been on our to do list for some time and we finally dined there at lunchtime today. The foods cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. We thoroughly enjoyed every morsel. The restaurant has an intimate dining area, but there is another area downstairs which can be booked for private parties. All members of staff we encountered were extremely pleasant, friendly and efficient.

Fantastic venue. Lovely helpful staff. Great service without being too fussy. Dark moody but perfect lighting and comfortable stylish seating and tables. Sirloin steak was beautiful and fries were perfect but was slightly lacking a little greenery, maybe just some rocket or watercress would have been ideal. Menu was slightly confusing for a first timer but we know for next time. The sea trout was amazing and lacked nothing. Haggis Bon Bon’s were gorgeous and so was the venison carpaccio. Overall a lovely meal but a little pricey. Would definitely go again though.

Food was excellent as was the service. The sharing plates worked well - 3 starters & 2 larger plates between 2 of us. It was a bit noisy as there was a very loud group seated nearby (nothing the staff could do about it) and the dining room is quite small - but we enjoyed it as we weren’t looking for a quite night out.

Food was very disappointing compared to our last visit. No taste or too salty. Very disappointing. Staff are nice and cheery. Venue is great unfortunately food is not good at all!

We happened upon this lovely restaurant and were a group of 8 (5 kids!). The staff seated us quickly and were fantastic and accommodating with our tweaks so that hot sauce was on the side (for the kids). Venison carpaccio, steak tartare (I may be a convert!), delicious broccoli, with fish goujons and fried chicken for the kids. Delicious. Would definitely recommend.

The food was great the haggis bonbons are a must . I had sea trout and it was wonderful . My friends had sirloin and ribeye steak and both said it was the best they have had. Don’t be fooled with the small plates , we all have healthy appetites but after sharing the small plates to start and then the larger main plates it was an early night for us. The service was helpful and friendly and we even had a birthday candle when I let them know it was my friends birthday . Many thanks and well done to the whole team, I will definitely return next time I visit your beautiful city.

Great place with friendly staff. We went for the light bites. So nice to have a tapas style experience. Food was so fresh and flavours were amazing. Had a couple of oysters which were really good.

The staff are very friendly and attentive, food is delicious, and the restaurant has a very intimate feel with nice volume of music and dimmed lights which is lovely for Saturday date night. Sadly, the night of the visit there was a young couple who brought a baby with them and he screamed the whole hour they were there - so the lovely atmosphere was somewhat lost as it is a very small space so one loud table will ruin everyone else’s experience to the point couple next to me left after 20 mins. Obviously not restaurant’s fault but perhaps have a curfew for children for evening service, it is not a cheap restaurant and a screaming baby is not what you expect when spending £70+pp. I would like to come back another time though, food and service are definitely worth returning for!

Loved our visit to this gem of a place . Staff welcomed us with a friendly warm manner , simple and elegant inside , the food was delicious from start to finish . You have to try the haggis Bon Bon’s..

Food was very very underwhelming and very overpriced. It was very generic food re-plated in a way to try and make it seem fancy enough to justify the prices. Beef tartare- The yolk to tartare ratio was really off so the entire dish was too “wet” and lacked flavor Fried cod- no seasoning in the batter. The batter was undercooked and doughy in the middle. They were served with a generic mayonnaise, not even tartar sauce or any citrus Crab on crumpet- overly salted and had very boring pieces of raw onion in it that overwhelmed the entire dish Beet and kale salad- roughly 3 slices of beet and a few scatterings of fried kale! Not even the addition of a goat cheese or anything even remotely premium or innovative, utterly basic Only come here if you’re looking to be very disappointed.

From arriving to leaving our experience was fantastic. Food lovely, drink fantastic, waiting staff attentive. We had our food and the staff then came to say they had reserved us seats in the bar where we continued to have a few drinks relaxed and chatted. Lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon coming up to Christmas.

Visiting Edinburgh for weekend and chosen for special occasion. Excellent food, tapas type/small and large plates (but not Spanish) gave a good variety of dishes. Also excellent service in a friendly size location.

We have been coming to this Restaurant over the past 4 years, the food is lovely and service great, however on this occasion, the menu was really disappointing, lack of choice and no kids menu. Not sure if we will go back

If they want to differentiate themselves from the rest, they must greatly improve the service, the atmosphere and the details. Otherwise the food was quite good and the service (in general) acceptable. But read details are missing. We told them that we were celebrating a 25th anniversary, we complained about the noise from a nearby table (a group of locals who thought they were in a pub) and they did not have the slightest detail or attention to us. That would not have happened in Spain.

We come here every time we visit family, and we recommend to anyone coming to Edinburgh. Very classy yet approachable, and such a perfect name to reference the carvings of the angels with bagpipes on the Edinburgh castle. The food is absolutely delicious and service was stellar.

My favorite restaurant in Edinburgh. The food is exquisite, artfully prepared, beautifully presented, in appropriate serving sizes, and on artistic dishes. The service is exceptional. After my first visit, I was greeted personally by several of the waitstaff each subsequent visit, remembered for past orders and preferences, and treated as if I was a favored guest. In a major city, along a street frequented by tourists and locals alike, during a busy time of the year, this is quite touching. For comparison, I spent two weeks in Edinburgh, eating out each night. The other restaurants were quite good, along a spectrum from local pubs to Indian chains to high end Italian and French, and none was as perfect all around as Angels. I came back to Angels twice, and I have one more night in town ... I may find myself here again tonight, as a parting gift to myself. Other notes: I dine alone, and the staff welcomed me solo; not all restaurants are able to do that. The sound level is quiet, but the conversations of other diners joyful. The decor subtle and elegant. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly.

Second time in a year! Great food and service. My family’s first visit to Edinburgh and Angels with Bagpipes helped raise their visit to a whole new level! The Christmas spirit is alive and well in this restaurant! Anna was the greatest host making sure we enjoyed ourselves!

Accommodated our party of six very easily with an early showing to the table for us as well due to our slightly earlier arrival than booked. Food arrived at the same time for all courses and was top quality. Service excellent with attention to detail from staff at all times. Portions are a good size and their recommendation for three tapas per couple was spot on. We added one to make it ten ! The haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce are a 'must have' for starters if it's your first time. Venison Carpaccio, green tahini, hazelnut was a particular favourite as well. But all excellent as we went for the sharing all the dishes. Best way to taste it all !!

I’m sure this would be a great venue for a meal if you can book a standard table in the main restaurant, but the high top tables are awful. Not only are they basically in the foyer of the restaurant, which is right at the door and very chilly on a cold Scottish winter’s night, but they have stools that are genuinely the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat on! No backs, no cushion, no comfort. Food was good, staff were lovely, all of which is really important, but overall not a comfortable experience.

We went for my 30th birthday and they had given us a beautiful table in a wee nook that was very private and warm. The service we received all night was first class, the whole team were very friendly, welcoming, and looked after us very well. The food was absolutely incredible, everything we ate was so tasty and fresh. The highlights were the bbq broccoli, sirloin steak and the chocolate pudding, although everything was superb. Can’t thank the staff enough for making the celebration amazing, would recommend anyone go for the food and we’ll definitely be back.

Gorgeous location, steeped in history and located on the royal mile. Everything about the restaurant is excellent from the greeting, service, food, drinks and interior ambience makes this worth a visit. We will return.

I brought my wife here as part of her 50th birthday celebration and we were not disappointed. This is actually the 4th time we’ve traveled to Edinburgh just to dine here. The staff were amazingly attentive and friendly. The food was I can only describe as perfect. The Haggis bonbons are now my most favourite thing in the world and the stakes were cooked to perfection.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our one complaint was that our main course was served on cold plates. What quality restaurant does that? Such an easy thing to get right. The result was that our mains were barely warm by the time we had finished, not that we are particularly slow eaters, and that certainly detracted from our enjoyment of that course.

We have been to Edinburgh on several occasions but tried to avoid eating at restaurants on the Royal Mile as they are perceived as too touristic. So we were very pleasantly surprised when we tried Angels with Bagpipes as the food was excellent and staff very friendly.

Loved our dinner! We were at the castle lights and got a text to say our table was ready! Earlier than planned but suited us as we were cold and almost done at the castle. We headed down and were greeted with a warm welcome. Drinks and food were superb. Service was friendly and relaxed. Atmosphere was calm and not too noisey. Allergies were catered for with no fuss. We all really enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be back. Thank you! ⭐️

Up market restaurant in Edinburgh. Small portion tapas style plates, beautifully executed. We particularly enjoyed the smoked salmon, the BBQ broccoli, and the crab on crumpet. The venue and staff made for a lovely evening in Edinburgh.

Please note the restaurant operates on a small plate basis! Food was delicious the fish was really yummy! The haggis was some of the best I've ever had and I would 100% recommend. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Make sure to book a table otherwise will be booked!

Thouroughly enjoyed our early dinner at AWB. Service was excellent and we loved the selection of small plates and had six to share. Company Bakery Bread is always a winner and complemented the food. Special shout out for the fried chicken and cod goujons. All in all a great experience.

Searching fora place a bit different from what you might find in a historical centre, I randomly entered here - and was more than pleasantly surprised. By the staff, the choices offered, the quality of the food, everything. Highly recommended if you want to spend a very enjoyable evening with excellent food.
