Outstanding dining experience (again) in this classy old town establishment.

Fantastic place with great surrounds. Timely and delicious food that everybody loved. Great experience!

Have been before and food was amazing but we were very disappointed last night. Less food and more cost. Not much choice for GF. Food was lukewarm and sparse. Not the best birthday meal we have had here

Food was great but we were sat alone downstairs whilst tables were free upstairs. Wine wasn’t as cold as it should have been either. A little disappointed saved only by the food.

The main course (venison) was nicely prepared and presented with a solid flavor profile. However, the portions were absurdly small for the price point. The side (broccoli) was very tasty but comprised mostly the stems with very little crowns - not great. Overall I was quite disappointed. I actually walked away hungry, which at that price point is inexcusable. Better food at a better value at many other venues. Cannot recommend.

The recipes were tasty and well presented. The main (venison and chicken) portions were absurdly small. The side (broccoli) was poorly prepared - mostly woody stalks. Walking away hungry at that price point is not too cool. Plenty of other choices for better food at a better value. Very disappointed.

I would 100% go here again & would highly recommend. The starters & mains were delicious. Felt alittle let down by the desert. It was a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Food was outstandingly flavoursome. Haggis starter was best we’ve ever tasted in a restaurant. Salmon main was very good indeed too. Good portion sizes too; we could not manage dessert! We were impressed with the wine recommendation and knowledge in general if our waitress.

Excellent restaurant which was very convenient to St Giles Area. We ate there two out of three nights we were in Edinburgh. The Fish was superb, as was the venison but the short rib less so. Highly recommended.

Thank you guys for making our meal this week so delicious. We ate here on Hogmanay 2016 and wanted to return, we were not disappointed. Next time in Edinburgh, see you again🙌

Great restaurant, lovely food,nice and friendly staff,definitely return

This was our second visit to Angels with Bagpipes having rated it one of the best we had been to previously. The food was still good and service was good until we received our bill from the bar staff member. There was a service charge of over £52 and they had not deducted the £50 voucher we had disclosed at the time of booking and again on the night. We asked for both to be deducted from the bill so we could choose our own gratuity. The lady was not happy and her tone and manner became rude when she brought the updated bill back. We still left a large gratuity which was not acknowledged and we were not spoken to when we left and found our own coats on the way out. Such a shame as this will stop us returning.

Booked here for lunch, we arrived slightly early, this wasn't an issue and seated promptly. Restaurant is chic and not pretentious. The staff are passionate and helpful. The well priced lunch menu had something to suit all tastes, the food was delicious, and presented by a chef who cares, a great find in the old town area, 100% recommended!

Loved the location, food, experience. Disappointing that the toilets feel very ‘back of house’ … the kitchen door should be kept closed as wash up areas never look the cleanest!! Our waitress was attentive and all the staff were pleasant. Will come back and will recommend to others

I had the venison steak and pate mouse along with the sourdough and beet vinegar which was all amazing!

The ambiance is wonderful, and the design is simple yet stunning. Food presentation is simply engaging to the eye. Food is entirely simplistic but tasty, delicious, and delightful, with the flavour that we seek. We award five stars for this reason. The staff members are very friendly, pleasant and helpful.

Wonderful meal on the outdoor patio during Fringe with view of street performers. Friendly, prompt service. Not rushed even though the restaurant was booked to capacity. The meal was fantastic from starter through dessert. Beautiful presentation, excellent flavors, generous servings, nice variety on the menu. Beet salad and chocolate torte were highlights.

While the food itself was delicious, the experience in the restaurant itself felt really rushed, with a feeling like the staff perhaps wanted us if the table as quickly as possible so that this could be used for potential walk-ins. We were served our entrees and mains in record time. When then asked if we would like dessert, we received a raised eyebrow when we indicated we would like to sit for a while and have a drink and let the 2 previous courses settle while deciding. Needless to say, we didn't end up staying for dessert. Such a shame as the food and venue itself was great, but we simply felt like we couldn't take the time to actually sit and enjoy it

I was a little disappointed. There wasn’t the atmosphere I expected and the food took ages. Service was very polite though.

We had a nice time here but the food was very expensive especially the deserts £18.50 for a very small portion.

Food was nice but over priced for what you get, toilets and downstairs need a revamp. Tables very close together.

Although the pricing is a little high, each meal is incredibly excellent, which surprised me and made me feel wonderful value for money. I've been in love with smoked salmon ever since I tried it!

We had an amazing meal at Angels with Bagpipes. The food was really good and the service was brilliant. Such a great restaurant and would highly recommend.

The food was very good with interesting choices. I appreciated that mocktails options were available upon request from the staff. However, there was no wifi which was apparently a reoccurring issue and the noise level was VERY loud. The chairs were so uncomfortable I skipped dessert. Overall, ok if I were with a party but would avoid as a solo diner.

Staff were excellent. Food was sooo tasty. Maybe a little expensive but it’s in the very centre of Edinburgh.

Booked our first night in Edinburgh here. And it was absolutely fantastic. Everything the food the 16th century building the staff. It was all great. Would highly recommend. Thanks very much.

The best restaurant I have eaten during my stay in Edinburgh. It was recommended to me by a local guide and I was not disappointed. At first it may look like nothing special just another restaurant that serves crowd pleaser on the Royal Mile. But you cannot be any further from the truth. The Chef creates magic on a plate. Full of flavours and textures. The BEST venison I have had in my life. Served with barley, celeriac pure, walnuts granola, pickled blackberry and jus. The first course Parsnip Soup with Nduja already put me in a very happy place to begin with. It was all I needed on a cold and windy day. A dish that will warm you up from within, that is full of flavours. The portions are just right. Worth spending maybe a bit more money and eat very well. I would definitely recommend visiting the restaurant to anyone who loves good food. I will be back and bring friends with me to spread the love.

The staff were all lovely, the food was exceptional quality, and being quite small the place was intimate and relaxing. If I were to have any comment it would be the beef rib could have been a little bigger. It was however one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had. Thank you to the lovely staff 😊

We had a set Christmas menu. The venue is nice but I thought they could have made it more Christmassy. It was also cold and we had to ask that the heating was turned up. The food was average considering the price. Processco was served at room temperature which is a big no no for me! I would return if they up their game!

Have loved going to Angels with Bagpipes for several years now, and although it’s still good ish, it’s no longer great. Food quality and service is still very good. The downstairs restaurant is pretty non-descript and a bit underwhelming. Food portion size is less thank what I would expect for the price. It’s no longer value for money.

Excellent position on the beautiful Royal Mile. Delicious food, lovingly prepared, downstairs dining area was intimate and friendly. Christmas decorations were classy and our servers were polite, chatty and attentive. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend and will definitely be a returning customer.

Best meal our trip and far exceeded our expectations. Definitely ahead of time and enjoy. The chocolate dessert was the perfect ending to the meal.

The staff were really helpful and friendly and the ambience was nice and relaxing. The food was tasty, however, the portion size was barely enough to feed a small child, considering the prices too. The desserts looked lovely, but after spending so much on a starter and a main, and receiving 2 tiny courses we had to give dessert a miss. Also not much option on the menu, and soft drinks not included on the menu anywhere at all so you are not able to see how much they are charging you per soft drink until you get the bill! Overall, quite disappointed ☹️

Food was very good, but the portions for the price was embarrassing, then to add a tip and says its optional in front of family is beyond believe. Won't be returning extortionately over priced

Came for my partner’s birthday. The food was exceptional, with generous portions, fantastic value for money. I can’t compliment the service enough, they ensured we had everything we needed to make our meal enjoyable and memorable, including giving a great recommendation on where to go after for a drink! Can’t recommend this restaurant enough, I will definitely be back next time I’m in Edinburgh!

The chicken parfait was without doubt the tastiest food that's ever entered my mouth. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare),and the staff were amazing.

We had an outstanding Xmas lunch yesterday. From booking to the actual lunch, everything was smooth and efficient. Ana was our server and she was first class and so attentive and friendly. Some of her colleagues joined at various points to help serve etc and they were also excellent. But ana was a delight. I booked for work Xmas lunch so there's always lots of pressure in case its a flop! But I needn't have worried, everyone's food was delicious, the wine was excellent and service, as I mentioned, was first class. So impressed. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend 👌 Well done team AwB! X

There’s a reason we keep coming back to AwB - it’s heaven. Superb food, friendly service. The flavours are deep and wonderful - the jus for the venison so delicious. Another fantastic dinner and no doubt we’ll be back again in the new year!

Die Speisekarte hat uns dazu geführt, daß wir einen Tisch zum Abendessen gebucht hatten. Die verwendeten Zutaten waren sehr gut und frisch. Die Portionen waren mehr als "übersichtlich". Wir hatten den Lachs als Vorspeise, welcher aus einer winzigen Scheibe bestand. Als Hauptgericht das Wild, welches aus zwei Stückchen bestand. Wenn man gehobene Küche anbieten möchte ist das OK ABER: das Ambiente ist ein NOGO - wie eine angebaute ausgebaute Garage (wir hatten den Platz ganz hinten rechts an der Wand). Unbequeme Drahtstühle und Papierservietten. Kein Flair und eher bessere Pub Atmosphäre. Zum ruhigen romantischen Abendessen absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Nach dem Besuch haben wir trotz zwei Gängen das Restaurant hungrig und 146 Pfund ärmer wieder verlassen. Im übrigen habe ich selten so schmutzige Herrentoiletten gesehen.

Honestly lovely experience, from amending the booking on the day to coming up with bespoke tweaks for allergies, everything was delightful.

The food here was absolutely stunning, however the service left something to be desired. Especially as it was my friends birthday, which we had made the restaurant aware of in the booking notes, despite this they hadn't even wished her a happy birthday. I have been here for my own birthdays in the past, and remember how special I was made to feel, hence booking here for this occasion, so I am not sure what happened. The menu itself was brilliant, and the restaurant is lovely.

Great food, great atmosphere and great customer service

Beautiful Christmas lunch meal on a dreik Saturday afternoon. The staff welcomed us warmly in from the cold, wet day and could not have been more friendly. The food was beautiful, we both had the haggis bon bons to start with, which were absolutely delicious. Crispy coating with a smooth, delicate flavoured haggis paired with a beautiful whisky sauce. We had the turkey for main- would love to know how the chef cooked the turkey as so juicy. The sprout veg accompaniment was amazing- I defy even the most ardent sprout hater not to demolish this! Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.

Outstanding experience here with coworkers last night. Food was on point with very friendly and attentive service in a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I was all just ok, nothing special. The short ribs were tough, not melt in the mouth as I expected. A woman at the next table was playing a tick tock video which was very noisy and intrustive.

The fillet steak was cooked to perfection, very juicy and tender. The wine selection is small, but the wines are high quality.
