Didn’t have the greatest experience here. As a Diamond status member, I expected much better service at this hotel, and they disappointed me. I booked a room with all points after staying at one of the Hilton properties for over 110 plus nights last year. When I made the reservation, I thought things were good, but AFTER I added someone else to the reservation the cost went up by about 1K pounds in addition to the points. I only discovered this after checking on the reservation to ensure that everything was ok for the trip. I call the Hilton diamond member reservation desk and ask why the change. They too were perplexed that the reservation was modified even with my confirmation locked in. Hilton gave me the 17K point needed to make the reservation whole again, with no cost. Upon arrival at the hotel, there was construction going on in the front lobby, so we had to enter thru a side entrance thru the bar, to a temp reservation check-in desk. Not the best way to start my vacation, but ok, if this is the worst that can be, it was ok. I checked in only to find out that I was notified that no upgrades to suites were available. I said, OK, especially since the hotel doesn’t even have an executive lounge, like most other Hilton properties for the diamond members. Maybe there is more to this location than what I am experiencing now. Another member of my party, who booked her reservation via AMEX, was offered an IMMEDIATE suite upgrade, so I am like, WTF!!! I guess when you book thru AMEX, they offer you more, instead of booking thru their website!!! I was extremely upset about this since, they told me that NOTHING was available. I expressed my frustration only to be told that AGAIN, nothing was available, for me anyway. I went to my room to drop off my bags only to discover that there was construction going on across the hall from the room (room 349). The noise was unbearable, so I went back down to the front desk to request a room change. They were hesitant to change my room until I advised them that they knew about this room and my reservation for weeks, and this was intentional. They moved me to room 534, which was not much better. Overall. I expect much better and I have NO intention of ever staying at this property on future visits to the city.

Fantastic hotel in a superb location in the centre of Edinburgh. The service is exceptional, the rooms are quiet, comfortable and beautiful. Just a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in a queen room with a wonderful view of the castle, which looked especially fabulous in the evening. The bars and restaurants are classy without being stuffy, with superb food and drinks, and the staff are so welcoming and attentive it makes for a wonderful experience all round.

This is a lovely building and it's obviously being maintained really well by the Hilton group. The experience is absolutely 5 star, always seemed like there was someone wanting to help with anything and everything. The room was very nice and cleaning was spot on every day. Food both at breakfast and in the restaurant was really top tier.

My recent stay at The Caledonian in Edinburgh was a major disappointment from beginning to end. The experience started poorly with a late-night check-in that was anything but smooth. The front desk staff seemed disinterested and offered no warmth or hospitality, which immediately put a damper on our arrival. The problems only continued from there. We were excited to use the spa, but it was filthy and clearly not maintained. It felt unhygienic, so we didn't even feel comfortable using it, which was frustrating since the spa was a big part of why we chose this hotel. Our room was also a let down. It was incredibly small, with a view of nothing but a some construction, making it feel cramped and claustrophobic. On top of that, several items in the room were broken, including fixtures that could pose safety hazards. We reported these issues immediately, but the staff did nothing to address them throughout our stay. To make matters worse, despite the hotel’s policy of providing upgrades when available, we were stuck in this subpar room, even though better rooms were vacant. When we expressed our dissatisfaction and decided to check out a day early, the front desk assured us we would receive a refund for the unused night. However, when the booking company reached out for confirmation, the hotel refused to process the refund, going back on their word. Overall, our stay at The Caledonian was a series of disappointments—poor check-in, a dirty spa, a tiny room with a terrible view, unaddressed safety issues, and unfulfilled promises about upgrades and refunds. I would not recommend staying here if you're looking for a pleasant experience in Edinburgh.

Just finished a 3 night stay 2/15/25 and while most staff were helpful and professional I like this stay overall however somethings need tweaking! As lifetime diamond member it is frustrating to book a high category in hopes of using your status and booking with fine hotels and resorts and then struggle to get an upgrade. You asked for loyalty, we gave it and now please provide a EARNED upgrade when possible. I know it isn’t a given but having to beg gets old. Nora, Erin and June were all shining stars and were extremely helpful and kind. We did lunch at the Court which personally did not go well as my questions were incorrectly answered and I based my order on them. The first room I was offered I never saw however I was able to get a jr suite 151 it has literally no view at all but I liked the extra space. Breakfast was amazing and staff there were always efficient and professional. I had a dining issue and they made it right which I do appreciate. This is a solid choice however again some things need fine tuning

Stayed in January 2025 for 2 nights,. I will start with the positive : the service was excellent and the willingness of staff to make one’s stay pleasant was the best I have experienced. The location is fab for walking to see the main sights, However a big problem is the lack of transparency on the website about the renovations which are taking place and will be for a further year. The spa/pool is only accessible by exiting the hotel, walking down a busy street to a side door which is around 100 metres. Clearly doing this in a dressing robe is out of the question, and this is not made apparent on the website, only upon check in. Also our room was cold, and two staff members told us conflicting advice how to turn the heating on. Surely prior to arrival the heating should be on in a bedroom, instead we required an additional duvet in order to sleep. This is not acceptable for a five star hotel. Furthermore, if you have garments requiring a drawer to store, there is quite insufficient drawer space, and the one and only drawer ( I do not like sharing with my husband our smalls !!), would not open fully due to another piece of bedroom furniture blocking it from fully opening. This is fundamental for a hotel of this standard and the price charged for the room. Overall due to the lack of transparency and I suggest honesty, I would not use this hotel again and is not worthy of its star rating.

Basically a nice hotel. Everything is a bit old and worn out. The spa is really not worth its name. A gym didn't open until 8 a.m. Rooms are small and room service is rather non-existent. Breakfast ok - with a strange system. Cheese, ham, fruit only to order - I've never seen anything like that before. Everyone in the house tries hard, but always seems overwhelmed, whether at breakfast or at the reception. Basically good - but the price-performance ratio is simply not right here. With the current standard and condition, the house is simply overpriced.

I have held off writing this review for two reasons, firstly to give the management we spoke to plenty of time to follow up with us and secondly as it is a busy time of year. It is disappointing that this is a 2 star review but this was very much the service received during our stay and not what you would expect from a marketed 5 star property. I could put some of the smaller issues that I felt were not as you would expect of a 5 star property to one side but my focus is all about service. 5 star is (should be) all about the detail. One great point was on passing one of the maintenance team on the way down to the bar he said hello and wished us a lovely evening - noted. All about the detail, he probably should help some of his colleagues. My main issue was a situation at the bar after dinner which could have been entirely avoided if handled in the way it should have been so I feel lack of training is probably the main issue. Having been given a drink from the pleasant bar staff member I noticed something in the ice. Taking it out the glass it did unfortunately look like something that you really wouldn't want in ice, however as I cannot confirm what it was it would be unfair to say. In any property, but especially a 5 star property, the least I would have expected was an apology and a new drink - end of. Before we had even had the chance to explain to the bar supervisor he took the ice from us and threw it away. When we challenged him throwing it away to explain why we had removed it he was totally uninterested and proceeded to be very rude with his parting comment being have a nice evening in an incredibly patronising tone. This was entirely unwarranted, so we asked to speak to the manager. Unfortunately the F&B manager continued to be very rude. I will say that initial discussions from us were in a very matter of fact tone but I certainly did not appreciate being spoken to in the manner we were when it was something that was an issue their side. From there we spoke to the night manager. Frankly not a route you want to go on an evening you want to enjoy. The night manager did at least take a much better tone but sadly didn't take the opportunity to follow up either the following day or intervening week....my whole point about this review is not necessarily about our experience vs the cost (Edinburgh is incredibly expensive now) but the sheer frustration that we have both domestic and international visitors coming to Edinburgh paying vast sums of money and the service sadly does not reflect the cost. I also say this having had a mediocre experience at another 5 star hotel this year. My advice would be don't spend on the 5 star, go to a strong 4 star property and use the money saved to go to many of the great independent bars and restaurants because sadly the experience we had was certainly not 5 star.

We just left after spending Christmas here and have to admit, beyond the location and our view, was quite underwhelmed by the rest of the hotel. We did get a castle view which was the best part of our stay. It really is quite beautiful. The room was rather spacious, however when we turned in at night, the WiFi did not work at all and many of the channels did not work on the TV. Also you have to request your room be made every day and they really only make the bed. They left empty containers from tea in our room, empty water bottles that wouldn’t fit in the trash receptacle etc. The worst part is probably the dining experience for Christmas. We spent £160pp at the Court and the service was horrendous, we didn’t get some parts of our meal and at one point they brought us champagne without us asking for it and then tried to charge us for it. We waited nearly an hour for the check and the whole dinner took around 3.5 hours. When we came for a spot of tea the day prior, we waited nearly 30 mins for the tea to come out and eventually just went to our room and had it brought there. We also asked for 4 pm late check out which was guaranteed with my credit card and discussed at booking but our room keys did not work as they had automatically checked us out at 12 pm. This is marketed as a 5 star hotel but was really closer to a 2.5/3 star experience for me. This used to be a Waldorf Astoria which when we originally booked was still our expectation, though can see why it’s now a Curio.

However, no one has reached out to me yet. If I do not hear from them soon, I am concerned about the potential loss of money for this booking. It’s very disappointing that such a simple request has caused so much inconvenience, and I feel my concerns are being ignored. I expect immediate communication and a resolution. Loved this hotel and thought the location was pretty central to everywhere we wanted to go to. Was a bit annoyed about the room being available much later than expected and then the bathroom door being very squeaky. Also, they deactivated our room key before we checked out so I had to go back downstairs to get it reactivated so we could grab our stuff. The views were nice and overall was fairly quiet on the 3rd floor. The bathroom mirror was heated so you didn't have to wipe it after a shower and the towel warmer worked. Everyone was lovely and breakfast was pretty good, wish they allowed eating at the bar - I often eat alone so would not have liked to move from the bar to a seat by myself just to eat after enjoying a drink. Was also a bit annoyed when I called at night asking about store/delivery options and the person mentioned googling it, like, thank you, I know how to google but I'm also a tourist so just tell me what delivery apps you have or if you don't know. It's okay to say you don't know. Overall, would stay at this hotel again since it was in a very convenient location and walking distance from Waverly Train Station.

My recent stay at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian was extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, the typical Waldorf service was very apparent. The hotel was housed in a building with a storied past dating back to 1903. This was the old Caledonia Railway Company. I had the pleasure of staying in the Cuthbert Suite, which offered unmatched views of Edinburgh Castle. Waking up to such a sight each morning and watching the castle all lit up at night was an experience I will never forget. The suite itself was very large, featuring opulent furnishings and state-of-the-art amenities such as a Dyson hair dryer, yoga mat/block, and espresso maker. The hotel's facilities were equally impressive. The Waldorf Astoria Spa was fantastic for my end of the day relaxation. The sauna and steam room were a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the city. The Caledonian’s prime location made it the ideal base for exploring Edinburgh. Located close to Princes Street Gardens, and within a mile of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the hotel is perfectly situated for both relaxation and the explorer in me. What a wonderful visit! Thank you!

I'm sad that I can only give two stars to this lovely hotel. One for the concierge and one for the housekeeper. When ordering breakfast, pay attention to the order in which the service staff delivers the food. The first person to order does not necessarily come first. After waiting for half an hour for an omelet, the guests who arrived later had already gotten it first. After asking the service staff twice, three service staff came and took turns to apologize and promised to come right away. The next omelet came and was given to the guests who had just arrived. It was too late, so I had to give up. I waited until 8:16 at 7:35, but I didn’t get the omelette, I only got a bunch of Sorry! This is not the service quality of a five-star hotel! Thanks also to the restaurant manager, I finally packed up two croissants to take away. I just hope that staff training can be strengthened. After all, delivering food at Waldorf Astoria is their daily routine, but it is a rare memory for many guests!

Beautiful rooms with everything you could want / need. The restaurant was stunning. The spa, pool and gym was a bonus. We were super impressed with the service by the front desk , the concierge, and the timely phone call to tell us our room was ready. I'd rate the service 10/10. Over and above all of that, our experience will be memorable as the front desk provided us with a transfer to our next hotel in their Bentley. Really grateful to all the staff who made this a great stay. We will definitely choose the caley for our return visit to Edinburgh.

Super great stay here. Rooms were fab, we had an amazing view of the castle from every window, but the service was excellent from start to finish. Hotel is dog friendly but the bars and restaurants are not which makes breakfast a little tricky. Breakfast was very good though

We arrived early from a 18 hour flight at 10 am. We where told our room would be ready in a few hours (no big deal I get it) but then people where arriving way later than us and where getting their room. I knew some of the people and it was the same type of room we ultimately got. I requested a phone call or text when our room was available. Starting at 2 I started double checking the availability every hour. It was not until 5:23 pm that our room was available. I asked when it came available and they said 4:17. I asked why I did not get a call or text about it and they said they did not have my number. It was literally written down next to the keyboard with my name on it as the lady is telling me this. When I pointed it out she said she there where no notes from the previous front desk person. When we get our room we realize our air conditioning does not work which they knew but said they forgot to tell me. I asked for a fan and they said no problem. They brought me a heater. I kept calling asking for a fan and they said it would be at my room shortly. After 2 days I gave up. The house keeping was great, the food was OK but the location was truly amazing. I would look else where unless you only care about location. For the cost I expected a much better experience with the place. Gym was OK but very limited.

Visited for afternoon tea and was a beautiful day out. We were served by Melony and her service was absolutely outstanding. Melony went above and beyond to look after us and the service was quick and impeccable, with regular opportunity to try more tea! My brother is in a wheelchair and her understanding without us having to explain anything allowed us to simply relax and enjoy the experience together as a family. Melony is an excellent example of the luxury experience at the Waldorf and truly made our day all the more magical. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for afternoon tea in the capital!

I regret to say that my experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. The receptionist made a serious error by double charging my room, resulting in a substantial overcharge of £1.2k. When I contacted the hotel to resolve the issue, the receptionist was shockingly rude, denying any mistake and insisting it was impossible. After providing undeniable proof from my bank, I was met with further delays and excuses, having to escalate the matter to someone with authority. Despite assurances of a prompt refund before the New Year, three weeks have passed since my check-out, and I'm still waiting for the reimbursement. It's evident that the reception staff lack proper training and attention to detail. My advice to future guests: meticulously check your bills before departing, as the hotel's incompetence may lead to financial inconvenience and unnecessary stress.

After 3 days on a bus tour checked into the hotel then into Peacock for a light dinner. I really wanted a salad but they only had a side salad I mentioned this to our server Jen who said she would check with the chef and see what could be done. Whatever she said she did it and I received a very nice salad along with a couple of other things we ordered. Thank You Jen The next day I had scheduled their afternoon tea. All I will say is it was delicious and the dessert portions were presented in a very unique and pleasing manner. Highly recommend Peacock alley.

We have celebrated our anniversary at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, and we have mixed feelings about the stay. On the positive angle, the hotel has the best and most welcoming staff we are ever seen in a hotel. The hotel has a central location. The staff go above and beyond to assure a comfortable stay, the hotel is very well serviced and you feel very welcome. The spa was very decent (especially the jacuzzi is worth a try). We really enjoyed the breakfast, especially the a-la-care menu. One some days, we have housekeeping twice a day. On the negative angle, the room seems old and worn out. First, they give out of white plastic cards to access your room. I’ve never had that happen to me at any hotel. The room we stayed (419) was uncomfortable, it was one of the smallest rooms I’ve ever stayed in, perhaps as small as a prison cell. The aircon made loud and screeching sounds. And noise cancellation was probably non-existing, you can hear people walk outside the door. The bed was squeechy and made constant sounds. As for the bathroom, hot water wouldn’t come down quickly and at all times, sometimes you need to wait a few minutes which is unusual. Full blackout of the room was not possible. And you can see that many parts of the room were old and worn out. Is this what you expect from a 5-star ‘luxury’ branded hilton property? No. Perhaps, we expected more from a Waldorf. But also, perhaps, the hotel is desperately need of renovations, something which is bad and we decided to stay at the wrong time.

Highly recommend for a couples getaway. From the moment of booking to checkout, the hotel and staff made my experience one that was so easy and comfortable I absolutely plan to come back. I surprised my partner with an overnight stay in a Premium Queen room with Castle View and the view did not disappoint! Pillows were lush and soft. The bathroom was luxurious with Aesop amenities and the hotel was dotted with Scottish paintings and photos. Not to mention there are views of the castle on every floor and even from the pool & spa. Ewelina assisted me in advance with preparing a bottle of champagne and birthday card to surprise my partner at arrival. He was so surprised! Princess went above and BEYOND to ensure everything was not only perfect at check-in but also throughout the stay. She has so much knowledge about the hotel and area, and ensured our preparations to the expectation I have of a Waldorf. She made us feel personally welcomed and this is why I rated the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian FIVE STARS! Additionally, James and Nathan at the Concierge Desk both helped us out during the stay. Not only providing recommendations, but they both made calls either checking for space or amending our reservations and making sure we could relax and enjoy nearby restaurants with ease. We both left feeling like this was “the most relaxing weekend” we’ve had in such a long time and the entire staff really set a high bar. We absolutely look forward to our next stay. Only negative feedback: the room slippers were low quality disposable with “made in China” non/removable stickers. A monogrammed “WAC” or better quality would be the cherry on top and I think they deserve to have this!

Stayed here over weekend for two nights and can't fault the place one bit. Not only is the hotel stunning and within a fantastic location, but the staff are amazing and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door. Check in was a breeze and was given access to our room in no time. The room itself was well maintained, clean and had everything we needed with an amazing view of the castle. We had breakfast with in the hotel and the service we received was perfect, staff were always on hand and nothing was too much trouble. Overall would highly recommend this location to anyone who was looking at staying.

The Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh is a hotel located in a central location in the city, a short walk from Princes Street and many other attractions. Nice vibe but I'd like a real cup when I have a coffee, not environmental friendly. I'd also like to use a toilet but the staff tell me the place is not a restaurant/cafe. You could have fooled me. The staff told me they don't have one and dont need one as they are predominantly carry-out. Surely an eating establishment should have a toilet? Apparantly not! Where do your staff go? Won't be back.

Everything about the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Queen Street, Edinburgh is excellent. There is a public bar on the ground floor but as members we used the Members Room on the first floor. The staff were excellent and really knew their stuff when it came to whisky. The food was also excellent, and the atmosphere was warm, inviting and friendly. Not too formal, the whole experience was exceptional.
