I felt bad for the staff because, unfortunately, the chips weren't very fresh. However, credit where it's due—they promptly refunded my money as I was in a hurry and even offered to give me a fresh portion of chips for my troubles. The staff and the owner were lovely, so while I can't rate the food on this occasion, I'll give the service a 5/5.

The gluten free cod and chips made me love life again.

Attracted to this take away by their vegetarian options. Really good menu with more than just standard options. We had three meals and everyone enjoyed it. Well impressed when they offered to adapt the fish dish and grill it for my health conscious brother. Can order and collect which is helpful as its a popular place.

Haddock excellent as usual. We will not order on a Saturday again as road closures meant delays to order so chips were not as warm as normal.

Worth trying, but not as exceptional as I thought it would be from all the good reviews. Was the oiliest fish I've ever had from takeout. So many options, the most vegan and gluten free options I've seen at a chip shop. I will perhaps try something new if I go again. Just not the fish

AVOID!!! First time ordering here, thought the menu looked pretty seafood oriented so gave it a shot! Food was late and cold but even if it was hot the scampi was empty pockets of mush. Seriously one of the cheapest, nastiest scampi I’ve had in years. AVOID!!!

I was looking for my first fish and chip experience in Scotland and very happy I went to #Fish. I have to eat gluten free and I don’t know what their batter is made of but it was amazing and held together beautifully. Honestly couldn’t tell it was gluten free by the taste and you usually can! I let them know I was in full tourist mode and asked for their recommendations for both the fish and the chips- now I’m stuffed and happy and ready to sleep off my first day here!

Tempura battered prawns: this should not be called tempura because the batter is too thick, heavy and oily AND the prawns should not be called prawns but small shrimps; compared with the batter covers, I cannot even taste the flavour of shrimps but starch. Considering the price, highly un-recommended. Battered jumbo Sausage: Too oily both for batter outside and sausage inside, sausage itself contains too much portion of starch, too thick batter, and again, no sauce provided for delivery. Flavour is on average, not recommended. Fish cakes: Too much starch, not provided with any sauces but a slice of lemon…average flavour, much worse than Thai or Vietnamese fish cakes in other Edinburgh restaurants, highly not recommended. Bravarian Jumbo smoked sausage: very delicious and deserves the price. Highly recommended. Crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. And they don’t give me correct sources for delivery, I ordered this on Uber Eats.

Disappointed as fish and chips were not hot. Fish was very small and thin and watery and lacking substance. I do not believe it was the fish I asked for. I have had better here. Really not worth the cost.

Amazing vegan menu. Loved the "Tofish" which is their version of vegan fish and chips. Perfect tartar sauce! Lot's of other vegan options on the menu. Make sure to go here when you are in Edinburgh 🤤 Only take-away food.

Haddock excellent as usual. The mussels ordered were replaced with scallops and black pudding without any notice. Such a large piece of fish these have not been eaten yet. This substitution has happened before without explanation not a good thing.

Very average fish and chips but around 30% more expensive than most other chip shops. Both times i've been it's been a very long wait too and not worth it IMO.

A very small box of average chips for £4 isn’t worth the money sadly. There wasn’t anything special about them being double the price from anywhere else in the city.

Spectacular chippy, they live to the name of the award. A lot of rights and very few wrongs, this is an example of 'how to' be a good hospitality business. Allergens are clearly labelled on the menu and on the packaging, so there it is less likely to have an incident. Vegan and gluten-free options, and it appears they have special preparation areas, which is not how most chippies work. If you order online, almost every aspect of your order is customizable, also including asking whether you want it fried or baked, breaded or battered and with options you may not have thought of. The mobile website may have taken one or two more taps than expected, but overall not a painful experience. I went with haddock and their in-house Lothian-style chippy sauce (tamarind and vinegar). Portion size seems smaller than your average Scot greasy spoon, but I'm fine as I couldn't even finish this. MSC certification (sustainable fisheries), and careful supplier choice will invariably drive the price up, but I eat out too infrequently, so I wanted this to be special and they did not disappoint. The real value comes from the very well presented meal and the fresh fish as well as their sauces and specials. Today they had a special on monkfish, and i can see these changing. The chips were competently made, golden and the oil was fresh (note: the brown in the picture is sauce, and specifically requested it to be put on top, so no-fault). The fish batter was nearly paper thin and extra crispy. Gravity works, so the bottom of the fish was soggier, but I feel I may have unduly rushed them because i turned up at the door within a few minutes of ordering, and i did want it fried, so it's all on me. The place is takeaway only, though they might keep chairs outside and there are two benches near the library. In this instance I shared a conversation with an enterprising crow, but none of the food. Very organised kitchen and outwardly seems spotless. Staff was nice. The only real worry is having such a diversified menu from a business continuity point of view. Recommended experience, (well maybe raspy corvids are not for everyone)

Additionally, finding fish bones in the meal was unexpected, as I don't anticipate encountering that in fish and chips. I hope that if I give this place another try in the future, they will ensure the fish is fresh and free of bones.

Had a daily specials of Shetland hake and chips (£12). One of the best chippys I've had. Lovely thick bit of fish, cooked perfectly. Chips spot on. Partner had cod goujons and chips, done gluten free (£10) and was also impressed.

This place is excellent for vegan options. They’re not just your usual token vegan options but instead well thought out and original vegan dishes. Tonight we ordered the tofish which is battered seaweed tofu that comes with vegan tartar sauce - an amazing dish, especially if you like your tofu. We also ordered the shawarma wrap and a side of mushy peas. The chips are really nice and plentiful. The food isn’t very greasy which is appreciated. They also cook the vegan options separately. A must for all vegans. The only slight downside is the price. Many of the vegan options are around £9 and that’s before adding chips. However, the quality of the food makes this a price worth paying.

A bit disappointed got the completely wrong burger ordered beef with brisket and got chicken and bacon and because of the bacon I couldn’t eat this I tried to call the restaurant but never got an answer so just had chips for £15 shame because my partner loved her food. Would appreciate a reply.

The meal ordered was not what was supplied. The restaurant said the special we had ordered was not on the menu and we were given what showed up on their screen. Our screen showed the original order and approved it. I did not check the difference in price between the scallops ordered and catfish supplied but still not happy with the service.

We love coming back to this place - fish and chips shop that goes a step further. Always fresh fish with new daily specials to try, good sized portions that are well priced and lovely owners. The cod yesterday was spectacular - fresh, flaky and not too greasy. Perhaps chips need a bit of improvement.

Food was lovely, they were really busy so took a little longer than expected but worth the wait!

Delivery was late so good was not very warm. Sea bass was tasty and sole fillets were nice. Chips were cold. Chocolate brownie was a nice addition but better service would be good. Maybe a Friday night is too busy to place an order from a distance!

The food was fantastic . HOWEVER , there is no seating so you are directed that should u want a warm indoors place to enjoy ur food you can traverse down the road 100-150 meters to a pub. Which is fine but also annoying. The staff seemed annoyed to be bothered.

Fantastic chippy. Great vegan and gluten free options. The Vegan buffalo wings are addictive. Chips consistently great each time I've ordered. My eldest used to work there when he was still at school and they pay their staff properly and treat their staff well.

the langoustine was superb. we have waited for it to be a special and it did not dissapoint.

I ordered the recommended fish and chips. The fish skin was thickly coated in flour and the fries were thick cut. The fries tasted very dry. Although the fried fish was very tender, the skin was too oily and did not feel drained. There is so much oil in the dry take-out box that it penetrates the carton

Delay caused by road works blocking access to our road. Fish excellent as always and we are converted to squid which we previously have not chosen. Very well cooked and tender.

What a brilliant chippy! Not only do they serve gluten free options, but they have an actual separate kitchen for this. I ordered the gluten-free fish supper, and it was absolutely delicious, with a light crispy batter and proper chippy chips. They even had gluten-free chippy sauce. Will be coming here again and again from now on. Wonderful.

Popped in on a windy afternoon long after having heard the news that this place won the Best Chips in Edinburgh 2023. Then I was amazed by the variety of fish species: cod, haddock, sea bass, North Berwick smoked haddock, monkfish, ect. They even provide vegetarian options, the Tofish😂 The shop didn't smell any annoying fumes. No oily looks. The chips were chunky and mild in temperature, with no greasy taste. The MSC line caught cod was crispy outside and soft inside with a light note of butter. Freshly sliced lemon, freshly cut curly parsley, both added to the flavour at the first smell. Was surely fascinated that such a small place, a takeaway restaurant, could confidently show such good quality. Will definitely come back often to try other options.

Monkfish was very nice. We ordered tart au citron and had raspberry frangipane delivered instead which I cannot eat because of the almonds! Very disappointed.

We come here regularly with our daughter and she loves the kids meal. It's great for kids, really good quality and the staff are lovely. My husband and I love the calamari too.

Excellent range of choice. Good portions. Batter vs fish a bit heavy on batter. Bun on fish sandwich didn't fall apart, yay, but was a bit 'gooey' from the greasiness of batter (felt a little as if it had been underbaked) Whitebait was good. Good sturdy no plastic packaging. In this weather that it arrived hot was achieved! but I failed to get it served to others fast enough to be able to eat my share carefully to keep from burning my mouth (As I was hungry I just ate it faster).

I can't recommend paying their £5 delivery fee for food that took almost an hour to arrive when we live at most 15 minutes away. We've tried these guys a few times cause the food is really good, but it's been cold every time. Heard good things about this and did not disappoint! But of a queue to get served and then collect food, but that means it's freshly prepared and you can tell - delicious! Well worth the wait, don't let queue put you off, will be back😊

Due to an out of date phone number (my fault) the restaurant was unable to let us know our first choice was sold out but they provided an alternative and it was excellent. We also got an added treat of fudge cake!! Excellent service and food.

We have ordered a few times and the quality of the food is always great. Unfortunately for this delivery, although the food quality was just as good, the food was pretty cold. Especially the fish and battered sausages. The centre of the chips had retained some heat but overall disappointed. Such a shame as it really is a cracking chip shop. For £5 delivery I expect hot food, not barely warm.

I placed this order on behalf of the elderly lady next door and not only did her order arrive at least 20 minutes after the delivery window but when it arrived it was lukewarm at best. She didn’t want to make a fuss and asked if I could microwave it for her to heat it up, but I feel it’s only right that I leave a review on her behalf.

8.00pm on a Saturday night. Stornaway black pudding was delicious but the chips were hard and dry, scrapings from the bottom I think, not good, the chicken wings were disgustingly wet, pretty revolting as was the buffalo sauce, such a processed taste. A shame all in all I had been looking forward to eating from there. I won’t again I’m afraid.

UPDATE: not as good as I had hoped I left a review of #Fish a while ago (you can see it at the bottom of this update). Just like most people in this list of reviews, I was raving about it! I have been going to #Fish for over a year now, they have been my favourite in town and I refused to go anywhere else. But I have had terrible quality fish and chips the past few times I have gone. Especially for the hefty price, the past times the fish was low quality, the chips were unedible - they tasted like they were frozen for a while and cooked in old oil and the mushy peas were subpar. I am not recommending this place to anyone anymore and I will not be going back anytime soon. Super disappointed, I will have to find a new fish and chips shop. ____ Very dependable fish and chips - really good! I absolutely love the in-and-out vibe, the fish always tastes super fresh, and the chips are great! Maybe not the best in the world, but you seriously can never go wrong with #Fish.
