had the vegan fish and chips and it was amazing! crispy GF batter was seasoned well too. staff were incredibly friendly

Managed to get the last portion of fish last night. It was absolutely excellent, really crispy, very good mushy peas too. Absolutely lovely guys working there too!

Heard good things about this and did not disappoint! But of a queue to get served and then collect food, but that means it's freshly prepared and you can tell - delicious! Well worth the wait, don't let queue put you off, will be back😊 Update: online delivery for pickup works perfectly, still very recommended!

Amazing for gluten free people, best battered haddock!

Very delicious!!! It was very crispy and fragrant when it was just fried, but even when it was cold, the skin was still crispy. I ordered the special of the day, salmon and cod. It smelled so good😍

Always freshly cooked food, excellent choices, especially vegan options and with a fully separate kitchen too, friendly staff. And all within a 10 minute walk from work. Friday lunch has had an upgrade 😋

Ni repartir pocos ni la tienda eran de ninguna ayuda simplemente seguía pasando la cuenta , después de no llegar a ninguna parte con el primero le di a este último un teléfono y la chica estaba flipante por decir lo menos sobre todo el asunto ni siquiera una disculpa . El estado era engañoso dijo que la orden estaba siendo preparada para más de una hora. Ellos no terminarían la miseria de la orden y forzado a través de la transacción. Así que ninguna consideración para el cliente. Creo que solo dicen que reembolsarán en ciertos formularios phat aquí si no estás contento. Sin embargo ahora se retroalimentan no se puede dejar? También dijeron que me iban a cocinar una cena fresca ya que la original había estado sentada en el mostrador durante mucho tiempo a pesar del estado que decía que todavía estaban trabajando en ella. Wow! I'm so impressed! I had a gut feeling this would be good from the pictures and reviews but the food is SO delicious! The chicken poppers tasted fresh and chips and onion rings were lovely and crispy. My husband loved his steak pie. Food was delivered very quickly, even on a Friday night. We will be back!

I ordered this at the wrong time but then called them and asked them if I could have my food for 5pm and they said that’s fine so yeah I’m not sure how food is (even the I’ve ordered from here before and it good) so my rating so far is based on their customer service 👍

Ordered cod. It was half the size of haddock. When we ate it, there was hardly any fish in there, it was just batter. £20 each for nothing

Stopped here after visiting Craigmillar Castle. Great freshly made haddock and chips. Owner is a lovely gentleman and we had a wonderful conversation while waiting on the order. Definitely a go-to place for those in the area and visiting!

Have been regularly for two years, and I can safely say it is the best Fish I've ever had. Two drawbacks: chips can be inconsistent, still very good, but not guaranteed world class like the fish. Also portions can be a little small, which makes the price a bit high. If you fancy a treat though, it is 100% worth it.

Probably the best chippy in Edinburgh. A bit pricey but the quality of the fish and batter, and the wife range of fish options including vegan make it well worth it

Been ordering few times from this place. The food seems to be nice, however our last order had to be delivered in 40 minutes though arrived in 90 minutes no longer hot, the chips were no longer crispy, therefore tasted oddly. Hesitating ordering again as the price would not be worth for its cold food.

The best fish and chips I’ve had in a while in Edinburgh 👌 but I just wanted to point something out to use I’m unable to order from your website just so use can avoid having to pay the JustEat commission prices but I’m unable to because it says use don’t deliver to my neighbourhood (eh16) despite use being on my JustEat takeaway options. I don’t know if use want to change it or I can continue to order from JustEat.

I had haddock and chips last night and although the fish was lovely the portion of chips were awful , lukewarm , stale and tough my first time here and I'm sorry it will be my last visit .

great selection for gluten free/ coeliac, had a battered haddock and battered sausage. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, battered sausage tasted exactly as a normal one. The owner was lovely and had a great knowledge and understanding of dietary requirements and has great understanding of cross contamination, they use a separate kitchen for gluten free. can't wait to go back! very happy and full customers 😁

Had a king rib supper and black pudding supper last night. The king rib and black pudding were fine but the chips were very disappointing. Quite tough and didn't seem very fresh. I've been here before and had very good chips so last night was a real let down.

Great fish but £5 for delivery is mental!

I’ve just had the gluten free fish and chips with mushy peas, got to say the staff are awesome, and the batter is delicious, best GF one I’ve had for sure. The peas are insanely tasty too! I hope you understood what I was saying when I collected! They put GF stickers on the boxes which is such a reassuring thing to do for coeliacs like myself

The gluten free cod and chips made me love life again.

I felt bad for the staff because, unfortunately, the chips weren't very fresh. However, credit where it's due—they promptly refunded my money as I was in a hurry and even offered to give me a fresh portion of chips for my troubles. The staff and the owner were lovely, so while I can't rate the food on this occasion, I'll give the service a 5/5.

Attracted to this take away by their vegetarian options. Really good menu with more than just standard options. We had three meals and everyone enjoyed it. Well impressed when they offered to adapt the fish dish and grill it for my health conscious brother. Can order and collect which is helpful as its a popular place.

Haddock excellent as usual. We will not order on a Saturday again as road closures meant delays to order so chips were not as warm as normal.

AVOID!!! First time ordering here, thought the menu looked pretty seafood oriented so gave it a shot! Food was late and cold but even if it was hot the scampi was empty pockets of mush. Seriously one of the cheapest, nastiest scampi I’ve had in years. AVOID!!!

I was looking for my first fish and chip experience in Scotland and very happy I went to #Fish. I have to eat gluten free and I don’t know what their batter is made of but it was amazing and held together beautifully. Honestly couldn’t tell it was gluten free by the taste and you usually can! I let them know I was in full tourist mode and asked for their recommendations for both the fish and the chips- now I’m stuffed and happy and ready to sleep off my first day here!

Tempura battered prawns: this should not be called tempura because the batter is too thick, heavy and oily AND the prawns should not be called prawns but small shrimps; compared with the batter covers, I cannot even taste the flavour of shrimps but starch. Considering the price, highly un-recommended. Battered jumbo Sausage: Too oily both for batter outside and sausage inside, sausage itself contains too much portion of starch, too thick batter, and again, no sauce provided for delivery. Flavour is on average, not recommended. Fish cakes: Too much starch, not provided with any sauces but a slice of lemon…average flavour, much worse than Thai or Vietnamese fish cakes in other Edinburgh restaurants, highly not recommended. Bravarian Jumbo smoked sausage: very delicious and deserves the price. Highly recommended. Crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. And they don’t give me correct sources for delivery, I ordered this on Uber Eats.

Haddock excellent as usual. The mussels ordered were replaced with scallops and black pudding without any notice. Such a large piece of fish these have not been eaten yet. This substitution has happened before without explanation not a good thing.

Very average fish and chips but around 30% more expensive than most other chip shops. Both times i've been it's been a very long wait too and not worth it IMO.

A very small box of average chips for £4 isn’t worth the money sadly. There wasn’t anything special about them being double the price from anywhere else in the city.

Spectacular chippy, they live to the name of the award. A lot of rights and very few wrongs, this is an example of 'how to' be a good hospitality business. Allergens are clearly labelled on the menu and on the packaging, so there it is less likely to have an incident. Vegan and gluten-free options, and it appears they have special preparation areas, which is not how most chippies work. If you order online, almost every aspect of your order is customizable, also including asking whether you want it fried or baked, breaded or battered and with options you may not have thought of. The mobile website may have taken one or two more taps than expected, but overall not a painful experience. I went with haddock and their in-house Lothian-style chippy sauce (tamarind and vinegar). Portion size seems smaller than your average Scot greasy spoon, but I'm fine as I couldn't even finish this. MSC certification (sustainable fisheries), and careful supplier choice will invariably drive the price up, but I eat out too infrequently, so I wanted this to be special and they did not disappoint. The real value comes from the very well presented meal and the fresh fish as well as their sauces and specials. Today they had a special on monkfish, and i can see these changing. The chips were competently made, golden and the oil was fresh (note: the brown in the picture is sauce, and specifically requested it to be put on top, so no-fault). The fish batter was nearly paper thin and extra crispy. Gravity works, so the bottom of the fish was soggier, but I feel I may have unduly rushed them because i turned up at the door within a few minutes of ordering, and i did want it fried, so it's all on me. The place is takeaway only, though they might keep chairs outside and there are two benches near the library. In this instance I shared a conversation with an enterprising crow, but none of the food. Very organised kitchen and outwardly seems spotless. Staff was nice. The only real worry is having such a diversified menu from a business continuity point of view. Recommended experience, (well maybe raspy corvids are not for everyone)

Additionally, finding fish bones in the meal was unexpected, as I don't anticipate encountering that in fish and chips. I hope that if I give this place another try in the future, they will ensure the fish is fresh and free of bones.

Had a daily specials of Shetland hake and chips (£12). One of the best chippys I've had. Lovely thick bit of fish, cooked perfectly. Chips spot on. Partner had cod goujons and chips, done gluten free (£10) and was also impressed.

This place is excellent for vegan options. They’re not just your usual token vegan options but instead well thought out and original vegan dishes. Tonight we ordered the tofish which is battered seaweed tofu that comes with vegan tartar sauce - an amazing dish, especially if you like your tofu. We also ordered the shawarma wrap and a side of mushy peas. The chips are really nice and plentiful. The food isn’t very greasy which is appreciated. They also cook the vegan options separately. A must for all vegans. The only slight downside is the price. Many of the vegan options are around £9 and that’s before adding chips. However, the quality of the food makes this a price worth paying.

A bit disappointed got the completely wrong burger ordered beef with brisket and got chicken and bacon and because of the bacon I couldn’t eat this I tried to call the restaurant but never got an answer so just had chips for £15 shame because my partner loved her food. Would appreciate a reply.

The meal ordered was not what was supplied. The restaurant said the special we had ordered was not on the menu and we were given what showed up on their screen. Our screen showed the original order and approved it. I did not check the difference in price between the scallops ordered and catfish supplied but still not happy with the service.

We love coming back to this place - fish and chips shop that goes a step further. Always fresh fish with new daily specials to try, good sized portions that are well priced and lovely owners. The cod yesterday was spectacular - fresh, flaky and not too greasy. Perhaps chips need a bit of improvement.

Delivery was late so good was not very warm. Sea bass was tasty and sole fillets were nice. Chips were cold. Chocolate brownie was a nice addition but better service would be good. Maybe a Friday night is too busy to place an order from a distance!
