Popped in to the Royal Oak after shopping at the York outlet. Julie the landlady and her husband Paul where very welcoming and friendly. Kian the young barman was helpful and polite. Unfortunately we had to leave before the outdoor pizzeria had warmed up. All in all a very nice village pub.

Local and come here lots. Food is amazing, lots of vegetarian and vegan options, and gluten free options, and there’s always new specials. So many deserts and drink options, from alcohols to matcha, soft drinks, teas and hot chocolates. I am inclined to their unique selection of high quality teas, their jasmine tea one of the best I’ve tried. Service is always quick and very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is so peaceful and calm. And of course the place and outside area are beautifully decorated. Reasonably priced as well. The most underrated cafe in York by far.

Eaten here before but a few years ago, burgers are the best I've ever tasted, I was with 3 others and they all said it was also the best they've ever had. Simple food done perfectly, I would recommend to anyone. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the meat you get. The S'mores over a fire are a nice touch.

Visit to york - such a beautiful place, everyone so friendly but the most upsetting experience here. 5 of us waited patiently for outside seating...we finally got 2 tables but only 4 chairs. We asked a customer if they could take their 2 ruck sacks off a third chair they had on their table as there was only 2 if them and allow us to have the chair as we had 4 chairs for 5 people. They said the floor was wet and wouldn't oblige - as if that wasn't bad enough we asked the manager if he could ask the lady to give up the chair as it was holding only 2 ruck sacks or would he take the bags inside and hold onto them..he told us no he can't make customers do that...but was quite rude and direct as he relayed this We decided to leave - as 3 of my family are quite elderly and it wasn't right to one of us to stand up to have a coffee... I asked if he was the owner as I would like to pass my concerns onto them..he threw his arms up in the air ...marched around the counter aggressively and stood very close to me intimidating me. He was shouting what do you expect me to do...at this point I said...all I expect is for you to act professionally and not in this aggressive and very frightening manner... He shouted I can't ask customers to take bags off chairs...I could feel myself shaking. Due to his aggression we left quietly as it was not only embarrassing but as a female quite scary. If he is the owner he displayed the most appauling customer care and service. His actions and aggression to a female demonstrated his misogynist personality and was quite appauling for someone in the service industry York is beautiful.....we eventually found a lovely coffee place opp york minister called CRUMBS .. you can sit outside - the staff were so lovely friendly welcoming and the coffee was superb. They offer a range of cupcakes that are devine....and the view overlooking a courtyard was picturesque
