Fantastic food as always and such fast friendly service. Staff couldn't do enough for our kids. Our little boy said it was the best meal ever !!

If you love fish and chips this place is amazing. But it also offers other dishes if you have time to sit down. My salmon was amazing, beautiful homemade chips what's there not to like. A great stop off on my way to Filey or on my way back to Manchester ♥️

Found this little place zipping back to York from a day out on the coast. My "small" cod was almost covered the entire plate, cooked to perfection in an extraordinarily light crispy batter. Daughter enjoyed a child's meal with similarly generous portions and an icecream sundae included. Staff lovely. This establishment closes in the early evening, so get there before 6pm if you can. Only wish we didn't live 5 hours away...

The best fish and chips in Yorkshire.

Fantastic! Recently my teenage son & I took my dad for a meal there. The food was delicious! The service was brilliant and the portion size was extremely generous! My son even asked if I could leave a positive review! We will certainly be back for seconds!!

Had the steak pie ,chips, peas, and a drink. The pie was a big portion and might I add very tasty. 😋

Food was nice just last felt it could of drained for a second it so more.

Best place to pull over with a popped tyre. My wife borrowed my car to visit a friend & on the way back she decided to clag a road island & popped my tyre. I had to rescue her & we ended up getting fish & chips. Great day out.

First class fish 'n chips. Delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating, yummy homemade tartar sauce. Good service too. Disabled friendly. Easy to find on Google maps, sign-posted and with plenty of parking. 5* from me and the wife who are regular visitors..

I had chicken and a jacket potato. The chicken was extremely dry and the jacket potato was hard and it didn't taste as though they had added butter,the meal was most unpleasant to eat.

Called in as we were passing. Now planning to go back. The food quality is very high.

Updated, has improved since last time, been consistent for about 6 or 7 trips , although I got a slightly undercooked cod last time, but in general compared to all the others locally it’s way ahead, don’t feel ripped off neither. Was going here very regularly and further than I should maybe travel, up til 2 months ago I couldn’t recommend higher, but since then I’ve been about 4/5 times, it’s just got worse, portions smaller, smaller fish , and an aftertaste of dirty fat for rest of day, chips are certainly much poorer too, also the service has had orders wrong such as missing a suave/peas so I’ve got to go back, funny thing is you can already tell before you’ve been served somethings amiss with the staff. Hopefully it’ll get back to where it was. Tried Scrap Box since, which is better for ‘Some things’ ie, ‘Service’ ‘Staff’ and most definitely the chips and frying.

First time visiting today, and wasn’t disappointed. Another person serving would be a good idea, but the food was first class.

Overcharged at Takeaway point, when I queried it, I was greeted with a shrug of shoulders..... end of conversation, no attempt to rectify the situation! Food was great as always, spoiled by poor customer service! Shame

great food i was warking in Malton and stoppedon ythe way back to taste their fish & chips for my dinner. absolutely beautiful.

We went here about 7 months ago. Fish and chips were ok, a bit overpriced, we used to go regularly, last time we wen the manageress was so rude that we walked out and will not be going back

What can I say that others haven’t? The portion sizes are definitely generous and the 8-10oz haddock was actually too much food for myself - and I didn’t have any starters or desserts! The food itself definitely is cooked fresh because it comes out steaming hot - three out of four of us had the haddock’s and the batter was light and tasty. The fourth person had the dishes pie and again huge portion with really big chunks of fish. You may have a small wait to get a table as it gets exceptionally busy but worth the wait in my opinion.

Superb staff, environment and food, one of the finest fish and chip restaurants in Yorkshire, which is a hard to achieve accolade.

Stopped in on the way home from Scarborough, seated quickly, served quickly despite it being very busy. Absolutely delicious food. The kids enjoyed theirs too. Desserts were very generous too!

Excellent haddock and chips, however, they got one meal order completely wrong. Placed on the busy A64 exiting can be a problem. The room is dated but functioal

A little out of York. A range of seating options for takeaway and sit down. Crisp batter and excellent quality haddock. A smaller portion option would be good, as even the small haddock option was too much for me. Friendly service. Getting out onto the busy road can be a nightmare!

Very tasty fish and chips, the haddock was as large as the box it came in and couldn't eat all the chips because there was so many. The batter is some of the nicest I've had anywhere. We took two large fishcakes home for tea and they were just as good. The staff were very nice as well, nice clean premises and will have to go back and try the resteraunt. Thanks

Full 5 stars. Amazing food, quickly made. Amazing chips fish and sausage from the takeaway. If you order inside the restaurant it is faster than other shops and the staff are nice. Not sure what to say but really high quality. Definitely visiting again

Called this evening, service was excellent, quite a few in so good atmosphere, we both had mid priced cod and chips both cooked as requested.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages, would defo recommend, if you sit in though take an extra layer, was pretty cold but the food more than made up for that!!

We all had a Cod fish butty and can honestly say all of us agreed it's the best fish we have had in a very long time. It was a chunky meaty fish. If we come past that way again we will definitely call in again.

Lovely service from the lady serving chips nice not greasy fish, sausage cold i thought maybe fish was cold because it had been sat there a while but sausage was also luke warm so was the mushy peas very disappointing as we have heard goodr reviews and had the passed on many occasion each time we must try them we ate them straight away so no reason to be cold also batter wasn't crispy The Scap Box on hull road hundred percent nicer

Fish and chips was nice tasting but had better price was to high cut of tea was weak shud use yourshire tea bags cappuccino was like dish water and over priced shame really spoiled the taste of the food I'd invest in a proper coffee machine and charge the same price 3.95 peas was nice but over priced at 2 for a small pot

Brilliant, the fish and chips are first class, the batter is golden and crunchy and the staff are fantastic and friendly!

My granddad found a lot of mold all in the inside of the cup. The chips were good the gravy was not so good by still good at the same time, overall I don’t recommend this restaurant because my family were stuck there for 30 minutes.

Nice food however the staff need a lesson in customer service, not friendly and when talking can’t even look at you. Seems like they all hate there jobs

How Fish n Chips should be Genuinely some of the best fish n chips I have ever tasted in all my years. Lovely flaky, meaty haddock. Delicious pale light crispy better not heavy at all. Chips crunch and good portion Even a place to sit down indoors or outdoors with condiments to help yourself. 5 stars all round. Next I’m in York I will revisit for sure!

If you haven't tried Thompson ,go and try it. The Food is fantastic and staff are very helpful and friendly, you get a good amount. Fish and chips ,homemade pie etc . Try it for yourself. 5 star.

I had an oaps special, it was massive. Hubby n brother in law have std, which neither could finish. Only problem my sister is a vegetarian and the garlic mushrooms and hallumi fries are cooked in beef dripping. So she had a jacket spud with salad, which again was beautiful xx

What to say? This is one of only two places I will eat fish and chips! The fish is freshly cooked while you wait, and is perfect, lovely crisp batter, and a large flaky fish, served with enough chips. A great value traditional meal, takeaway, or sit in. excellent.

Shared Haddock an chips + Peas 1 Tea and a breadcake £ 13.50 more than enough for two unless very Hungary, quality very good enjoyed all cleared the tray between us.

What a fantastic fish and chip restaurant with gorgeous fish and chips. Today we were looked after by Helen who was amazing cheery and a breath of fresh air chatting away to our New Zealand visitors. A great recommended experience.

We had a fantastic meal here there were eleven of us a mixture of adults and children. Lots of different choices all the meals came out together and the quality was excellent

Seniors Haddock and Chips. More chips hiding under the fish. Eventually became Haddock or Chips, unfortunately for some chips the Haddock won. Absolutely beautiful piece of Haddock, cooked beautifully well...as a MasterChef judge might say.

Can't say we were too impressed. 4 people. 3 of us left the chips. Whatever it was all cooked in left a nasty taste on the tongue and a film on the lips. Oh, and bread and butter should be BUTTERED. Spread is not butter. Wouldn't go back.

We arrived Saturday 8th September. There was a que but we were seated very quickly. Our order was taken in no time att all and the food arrived very quickly. What great quality and as my wife said when we were paying the staff operate like a well oiled machine. This was our second time visiting whilst staying in York. Well doe to the team

Excellent all round, had the scampi and chips. Lovely texture on the scampi and great flavour. Ketchup offered with condiments. Even mushy peas were delish.

THE PRAWN AND COD FISHCAKE IS THE BEST ITEM IV EVER BOUGHT FROM A FISH AND CHIP SHOP . .They tase incredible the consistency is same with the filling throughout .. 10/10 .. chips great curry sauce well worth a dip 😄 ... fantastic food 10/10 can't fault it today ...

We were in the York area for a week. So we hate here twice. Fish and chips one night crab salad another. Both lovely. We will be back again. Give them ago you'll not be disappointed

The food portions here are proper Yorkshire portions! They are Massive! The food quality is good and the wait time is low. I highly recommend going here but go with an empty stomach otherwise you won’t be able to eat it!

Travelled 20 miles after a positive YouTube review. Got 4 x Fish and Chips which were anemic - if you had slapped the fish it coud have flapped back. Never again - average at best but a reasobaly sized fish though.
