Hi Ho 2 does not offer pizza so please don't get confused folks. What it does offer is an intimate, private-style speakeasy experience. We struggled to find it at first, all part of the fun, and cleverly disguised above other venues and office block style rooms. It is a very small venue, but so cosy and friendly. The staff were friendly and helpful, table service. The drinks were top notch, if you're not used to paying for cocktails, be assured these were good value and great quality. Live music was simple but fabulous, perfect for the venue style and atmosphere. If you do your research you will understand the passion and hard work going into The Hi Ho 2 which just made us appreciate it all the more. Will definitely return.

LOVE this place!! Booked a table for 2 hours for 22 of us for my friend's hen do. Charlie was really helpful and couldn't have done more for us. Yummy, very reasonably priced sharing boards, great cocktails and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

TikTok for the win again! Someone posted a video about their experience here so we thought we’d try it for a night! How fun! They even had their Halloween drink menus! Highly recommend Salems Curse! It was so yummy! The bartenders were loads of fun and so lovely. What a great place to find…..that is, if you can. ;)

Lovely place. Really well hidden. Feels really exclusive having to know passwords and go through unmarked doors. Cocktails were lovely and service was friendly and quick. Would definitely recommend.

A fantastic find in York. A secret club. Great live music. The decor is themed on an American speak easy. You will have to book your visit, then you will be given a secret password to enter. Just brilliant

I've been a regular at the Hiho for a few years now. Fantastic place, great drinks and lovely people. If you can make it down on a Thursday night the live music is outstanding.

We booked a cocktail making class for a hen do. It was amazing! The lady who owns and runs the classes was so charismatic and funny, we had a blast. You have the bar to yourselves for the whole time and it was such a lovely atmosphere and the decor was so unique. The drinks were top quality too. Highly recommend the Hi Ho Tini! Thankyou.

Just had a fantastic night at the hiho club york great blues band staff very friendly and happy.the atmosphere was great strongly recommed give it a go my wife and I will definitely be returning.

We booked a table for my partners birthday celebration with friends. This bar has it all, incredible friendly service, amazing cocktails and a laidback chilled vibe. The drinks menu is extensive, and unique with some really interesting combinations! I absolutely would recommend this secret hidden gem for anyone and all - just remember to sign up in advance on their website for the password. It’s a speakeasy after all 😉

Good atmosphere and great cocktails. The staff were very attentive. Good communication via email as we had to change numbers slightly and they were kindly able to accommodate with notice. Would recommend

Sadly we were a bit disappointed and I will explain why below. But first I should point out that the other reviews (all the ones mentioning pizza) on Google relate to hi ho 1 (previous bar) not hi ho 2 (the current bar). So why were my partner and I disappointed. Well we have been to lots of prohibition style bars and really enjoy them. This place was hard to find which is a positive as a prohibition style bar should be authentically hard to find. However disappointment was predominantly around the quality of our drinks. We ordered 2 identical cocktails containing rum. Both my partner and I genuinely would question how much alcohol they contained. Just could not taste it. We did politely point this out to the lovely staff member behind the bar who told us the fruit juice in the cocktail had masked the 2 shots of rum it contained. I'm afraid I remain sceptical as a seasoned cocktail drinker. For £12 per cocktail it didn't feel like good value for money. I would have been happy with this price had I been able to taste the alcohol. In terms of atmosphere we did like the bar however the white (hairdresser style) tile panel ceiling did take away from the feel a little. Cosmetically that could do with improving to increase the speak easy feel. I hope the feedback is accepted and the alcohol contents of the drinks are increased. (I'm not an alcoholic :-) I promise)

What an utterly fabulous little gem of a place. A "secret" bar in central York. Such a great atmosphere. The staff were exceptional & could not do enough to make us happy. The cocktails are extremely high quality & the decor is fabulous. Seek this place out! I highly recommend! Xxx

Heard blues music magically coming from a third story window whilst walking through York on a Thursday whilst visiting our daughter. Luckily she was aware that there was a bar hidden away up there. Walking through two sets of dark heavy curtains into the 'speak easy ' atmosphere was a sheer delight. The staff were helpful and attentive and the cocktails were divine Apparently blues on a Thursday night and Jazz on a Sunday night. Dont forget to sign up on the website to get the password of the week! A not to be missed experience.

75 million star rating for this place. Great vibe and amazing cocktails. The service from Charlie and the Widow Maker were first class.

Was a great atmosphere the girls serving were friendly it was busy which was good the girls were apologetic for the wait for drinks which we said we didn't mind and didn't have to apologise at all it was a great night the cocktails were amazing would highly recommend this to place to others

Very cool, totally independent, themed bar, well worth a visit. Own menu with genuine stories behind the drinks with charismatic staff happy to chat. Regular events to look out for but remember to book ahead! (Secret entrance next to Neros) Can’t wait to visit again!

I brought my dad here for the first time and Charlie and the other staff couldn't of been more helpful and fun. The Halloween cocktails were delicious and there was so much attention too detail on the menu and the decor. I'd reccomend this too everyone. A hidden gem and will definitely be returning! Xxxx

Disappointing visit. I signed up as required to receive the password of the week. This is a great idea and built excitement for our visit. However on arrival 19/10/23 @ 5.40pm we rang the bell to access the main door… no answer. Rang again another 3 times still no response. Opening times attached to the door frame stated they opened at 5pm. No one had the decency to even answer the buzzer. A real shame as we were looking forward to spending time at this bar. All the hype and build up for nothing. Unsubscribed from the mailing list and would not recommend bothering with the faf of signing up as the staff don’t bother to answer the door.

I was loathe to leave a review if the Hi Ho Club for one simple reason; this is a superb hidden gem that I would selfishly like to keep a secret! The discrete and unassuming entrance leads to a stairway to the most charming, welcoming and cosy venue. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The bar is small (cosy) with lovely decor, and the drinks were reasonably priced for a cocktail bar. Unfortunately, we had other commitments so could only stay for the one drink (an espresso martini to die for!) but we nursed this one drink as we listened to a fantastic Blues duet - we recorded a soundbite of their set but unfortunately cannot upload it to this review. Had we had more time, I suspect we would have settled into a corner to enjoy a full night's entertainment. We will most certainly return on our next visit to York - this one bar warrants repeat visits to the city! .

The Hi Ho Club is a magical space where reality gets left at the door for a few hours.

Was great here when I went last but I tried to visit again today and after a wild goose chase found it wasn't at its last premises! It wasn't at the location it suggested on maps so we followed our memory to get us back to where we had visited before only to find it had been closed. Unsure if permanent or not! Edit: They've changed premises to a place just as cute and infact more secretive, adding to the fun atmosphere that was already apparent at the last premises. I've caught live music here since the initial review and had a great time. Entirely reccomend!

Charlie & the team are spot on. To effectively put into words how great the cocktails are would take more than my availabile word count. Do yourself & your taste buds a favour & go sample Charlie's juices!

A group of 15 of us were hosted by Charlie (and Sam) for a cocktail masterclass with pizza included too. Everything ran smoothly, Charlie was a fantastic host, the cocktails were tasty, it was fun, interactive and the pizza was delicious too! Everyone had a wonderful time as they are wanting to return for casual drinks, tarot reading and the blues night. I’d highly recommend coming for a casual drink or booking privately for a cocktail masterclass like we did. It’s such a lovely atmosphere and Charlie is such a wonderful and kind lady… I’m going to keep coming back.

Great little cocktail bar - very much a hidden gem in york! Got drawn in by the idea of a Speakeasy bar, so me and my partner visited and had a wonderful time!

Great little evening venue, hidden away upstairs. Fantastic cocktails, and blues music on Thursday evenings. Staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive.

An incredible night that I won't forget. Cracking cocktails with a kick served by fabulous smiley people in a quirky speak easy type space. The blues played here by a father and son on guitar and harmonica, joined by a Glaswegian singer is as good as it gets in this country. Add a sprinking of swing dancers and it was great fun. Occasionally there are nights that just have all the right ingredients to feel magical and Charlie the owner of this night knows the recipe. This is a night that deserves your time.

Gorgeous intimate speak-easy with world class cocktails ❤️Was lucky to see some live blues music on my visit which was brilliant! The cocktail menu is designed with so much care and beautiful anecdotal resonance. Charlie and the team provide an excellent service - they custom made a non-alcoholic cocktail for my fussy Mum! Would 100% recommend to anyone living or passing through York to subscribe to the emails for the password and pay a visit.

If you’re looking for a better bar in York you won’t find it. The perfect night was had there with my friend’s. Charlie is the most friendliest welcoming host. She went above and beyond to serve us the most delicious generously made cocktails. Everyone I was with commented on how special the place was with a fun, comfortable and intimate vibe, we had the best time and be coming back for more. Having a password adds to the exclusiveness and atmosphere. 5 🌟 all the way

Absolutely FANTASTIC venue. Friends and I never miss a Thursday jazz night, but it’s a fab place to be whatever night you visit! Charlie is an incredible host, friendly, personal, super efficient and makes the BEST cocktails! The decor and secret password make it extra fun, and add to the speakeasy vibe, and it feels exciting to be “in the know”. My favourite place in all of York by far! Thank you so much for so many lovely memories - we’re definitely going to be regulars here for a long time!!

Totally brilliant. I only had to wait outside for a few seconds at there new easy to find location. I had booked a large table and was asked to send £5 per head as a deposit which I did gladly (as small businesses need to protect themselves from the damage of no shows). I then received a password to gain entry to the bar by pressing there clearly labelled buzzer. They were great with replying to all my messages online. My advice - get yourself booked in and have a brilliant night. Very pleased :)

Nice place, mixed orders. Even a waiter didn't know what pizza they needed to give to us customers. We had 4 pizzas all burnt especially the crust. The best thing was just the cheese

❤ I arrived as a customer & left as a friend ❤ I was tasked with arranging a cocktail making class for a small group of 4. Every venue I contacted, turned me down mainly due to our small group size ☹ then I came across this venue. My group attended our cocktail making class late but Charlie was so accommodating / understanding & kind. Within short order we where taken to a table in the HiHo Club where we drank scrumptious cocktails & ate amazing fresh pizza! The actual cocktail making class was in a secret intimate room and it was so fun & informative (I will remember the class for a lifetime) and we all agreed it was amazing value. I now class Charlie as a friend (she really is a wonderful person & a wonder woman in the hospitality / cocktail making worlds) Would I recommend this venue 100%, would I return 100%

Hidden gem alert! After eating a very tasty and filling pizza, we headed below through the old style fridge to the Hi Ho Club. From all the old fashions I've drunk in York the one I had here was by far the best. Highly recommend if your looking for an alternative cocktail bar in York.

Make sure to make space for this speakeasy bar in the centre of town. Some really good cocktails, a very vibrant atmosphere led by super cool staff and Charlie who will make you feel at home with her enthusiasm and fun personality. Strongly recommended

Proper pizza, great atmosphere, don’t miss out!

Horrible experience. Showed up for the bar with reservations. The place was so jammed I bumped a chair and spilt a drink some the front of me. No table was reserved for us. They set the four of us at a HALF a table with four chairs and a sticky table top . Then while cleaning our table another member gave our table to a group of TWO!! When our drinks showed up we barely had room for them. I couldn’t even pick up my drink. My daughter had to stand up so I could drink. Twenty minutes later we finished our drinks and they told us they had a bigger table. We didn’t take it. We paid and left. So upset. Drinks were nice. Looked forward to this for weeks, wow what a complete disappointment.

Ambience was pitch perfect (literally). Table water was a tasteful touch especially with a slice of lemon. Menu was very broad and as far as I could tell there were veggie options not sure about vegan. Waiting staff were great. Would recommend to a friend.

Surprised my partner for his 30th birthday meal out. The staff were awesome, friendly and personable. Made fantastic drinks and the food was delicious. Just the perfect amount of toppings on the pizzas beautifully cooked. We'll be back soon! (And we will be bringing friends)

I'm kind of reluctant to give a good review here, because this was a place we discovered that is usually really quiet at lunch times, so we can usually get a table, but the pizzas are amazing. The selection on the menu is perhaps a little small for some, but I would like to try the arancinas, and the antipasto at a later visit

Shabby venue, needs a good clean and repaint. Overpriced cocktails, cheap and nasty ingredients, Jif lemon! Really? Overloud music, too loud to speak to each other. Very disappointing.

Maybe it's my own fault, I had really VERY high expectations for this place, but was disappointed.

Some may say we’re biased, I don’t give a flying f. When Charlie left derby it was a disaster for the city. The venue she’s created is phenomenal. The walk through the door does not one bit prepare you for the experience your about to receive. The pizzeria wow I’ve had some good pizzas from New York to vegas and I’d have to say this one of my top two. The next level is down on the lower deck, walk through a classic proabition speak easy entrance the music is in tune with the venue The staff are brilliant and if stag do hen do or just a early lunch I can’t give it enough stars love it.

A really unusual 1940s/jazz influenced pizzeria with the best and most authentic pizza I've ever tasted. Great coffee, Coke in glass bottles, and extremely friendly service.
