Excellent coffee and sandwiches!

Attentive service, good choice of light bites on the menu (toasties etc). The hot chocolate and the berry smoothie were nice.

Really enjoyed a very tasty breakfast and very friendly and good advice. What we didn't find so comfortable was the very sparse back room and everything a bit backwards with a construction site atmosphere. When that's done it's a clear recommendation

Cute place, great food! The little pig to takeaway was superb! Tasty bacon and brie and the bread and butter pudding with cinnamon was yummy!

What a great little find this cafe was! We were strolling by and ducked in to be very warmly greeted by the 2 girls running the place - just what you’d expect in Yorkshire! A really cool and cosy cafe. We got a great big mug of coffee - which was excellent and smooth. We also ordered 2 toasted sourdough sandwiches - Falafel & hummus and Mozzarella, tomato & pesto and they were both fabulous. They were toasted to perfection - not too crunchy - just right. We’ll definitely pop in again, we didn’t have chance to have one of their delicious looking cakes - a good excuse to return!

Coffee's pretty good for northern England. I still don't understand how people think avo toast = cut slices of avo placed on very dry, thin toast. Bad salad. Nice window at the front for watching the street; further back in the café, where the backed chairs are, feels somewhat like a storage back-room. Nice servers, can't be faulted.

Went in today for a bacon and sausage sandwich. Told it was £9. I turned round and left. £9 is day light robbery. Cafe84 just up the road is significantly better, but unfortunately closed on Saturday

A lovely little cafe between Mickelgate and the city centre. The coffee was particularly delicious. The decor is very pleasant, the music relaxing, and the service friendly.

Fist time customer today - I will be back, great tasting coffee, a lovely blend, and refreshing to see staff who smile and are genuinely pleasant. It makes a real difference.

La caratteristica è certamente l accoglienza e il personale molto gentile. Inoltre è un posto informale dove puoi prendere un semplice caffè o pranzare con calma. Alcuni sono fermi con il loro cappuccino a leggere un libro altri stanno pranzando...insomma un posto tranquillo. Molto carino. Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo.

Great value for money. Came across this cafe on a week day morning and was glad I stopped in. A friendly warm greeting. I never went through the back as I sit at the window bench. A lot of locals come in for sitting in or take away. I had a link roll (sausages in a roll), blimey, I think half a pig was in there. I wasn't expecting that many sausages, definitely more than 4 in there, but they were lovely pork sausages, the best I had in a while. Hot chocolate as it was cold that morning. While people watching, I noticed they had a jar of dog treats and a bowl, a dog-friendly cafe. If back in York, I would pop in here again.

Absolutely lovely friendly and cool cafe to work in, relax in from first thing onwards. Great wifi, desk set up, porridge and superb locally roast and perfectly made coffee. And best of all the service and atmosphere they create. Been coming back here time ans again - it’s fantastic value - and long May that continue!

Stopped for the most delicious bacon sandwich a few weeks ago. The bacon was crispy, just how my partner likes and the coffee was really good. The toilets were clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!

Small cafe with limited food options but the panini's were very tasty and the smoothies were excellent. Vegan dining is possible.

Great place to stop for a tea or coffee on the way into central York. Staff are so freindly and take a genuine interest in you. 5* service from a 5* cafe in my opnion! Not one to be missed!

This small café seems small and tight, but it is very comfortable. The barista is friendly, the tea is good, and they have free WiFi. In fact there were a couple other people working in there when I arrived and even more when I left.

Visited Sep 22 & found coffee good, cakes very tasty, staff very friendly - highly recommended!

I work from home and wanted a different environment for a day. This is was perfect, dedicated room for those working vs normal cafe people, solid WiFi, there is even a meeting room if you want a bit more privacy. Great prices on food and drinks, great quality - not a single fault.

Hidden little gem in the Micklegate. Well worth the small walk from the centre to grab great food and coffee and a very friendly personal service.

Such a wonderful cafe with the most amazing staff. Coffee is incredible and atmosphere is just great.

We came in both mornings we were in York for the bacon bap and hot drink deal (just under £5 if I recall correctly) while walking from our Ibis to the centre. Not an exaggeration when I say they were the most delicious bacon baps I've ever had. My god that sourdough is to die for. Cured our hangovers beautifully on the second morning (context for the ibuprofen in shot). Incredibly friendly and genuine staff. Lovely coffee and mocha. Really wish we could be regulars!

It has an amazing staff and the food is and smells incredible! Even though it is small, it is a cozy and comfortable area!

The coffee blend used at cafe 42 is like non over to what I have ever tasted it has a very clean and nice atmosphere cafe with friendly and welcoming staff. This is nothing compared to coffee chains you have been at, the blends and care put into every cup is astounding! The interior, with the menu on the wall written in chalk and the lights and greenary work really well to create such a cosy atmosphere. Definitely will be returning!

The best cafe in York. The coffee along with a toasted panini is delicious. It’s a must if you are visiting the city. The staff are welcoming, friendly and went above and beyond on my visit. I will most definitely be returning to try even more of the treats available. Amazing experience😋

It's safe to return! I used to come here all the time as it was a great place to sip good coffee and watch the world go by, but then the manager(?) changed and the atmosphere (and with it levels of friendliness!) changed drastically so I stopped coming. I walked by today and noticed that the staff were different so I chanced it and popped in - turns out there's a new team and a new manager and they're lovely. Smiles! Friendliness! Good coffee! Ladies and gents, it is officially safe to return to Cafe 42! 🎉

Called in a couple of days ago for a light lunch snack. Had the hummus and cheddar panini's, fabulous. Good mug of Yorkshire tea each and set up for the shops. Give it a try.

The coworking space at the back of this cafe makes a great change of scenery when I want a break from working from home. Really love the Cafe42 coffee blend, and wifi is super fast! Friendly staff and good service :)

Pleasant enough cafe, but was let down when I paid for a membership for the coworking space in the back. Communication and support were almost non-existent (no information on accessing wifi, using perks such as drinks discounts, etc). Maybe it will improve in time but I can't recommend it based on the experience I had.

Really good oat latte and my wife love the hot chocolate. Really good value

Please note that this isn't Divine Coffee Roasters anymore, they are further up the street now. But this place is still nice, and serves some good coffee.

Cold hot chocolate poor Service

Disappointing Trying to try a few new places and spread the trade around a bit of late and make use of the eat out to help out scheme so decided to try here for brunch. Firstly it seemed everything we tried to order had a part out of stock but eventually got 2 paninis and 2 drinks ordered. Then had to explain how the 'eat out to help out scheme worked to avoid being over charged which was challenging. I wonder how many people they have overcharged by accident so far! One of the paninis was pre-made and had been in the fridge which is fine, however its not fine if its not properly warmed leaving the middle of it cold! The other panini was fine, nothing special but would eat again (if it wasn't for the other issues there) Overall, disappointing sums it up.
